Warning, warning: when Hardware Secrets editor tried overloading this particular PSU, it BURNED DOWN on them.
Full review here: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Enermax-Liberty-DXX-500W-Power-Supply-Review/303/8

Good link. But to be fair, they were pulling 48 amps on the 12v rails,  thats 50% over spec and more than the OPs configuration would ever pull.

Edit: in their conclusion they mentioned the PSU is essentially the same as the  Antec Earthwatt I had, although the antec's overload protection does work, unlike the enermax's. On one hand, that makes me more confident it will be able to power a 5850 + 6770. Ive had my antec power two overclocked 5870s and litecoin mining 100W CPU. OTOH, I dont like PSUs burning instead of shutting down.. so Id still look for a replacement.
1642  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Overclocking 5850 on: January 13, 2012, 08:44:18 AM
I have several 5850s, from MSI, XFX and sapphire. None of them have trouble clocking over 775, but if you use windows (which you shouldnt IMO), then you have to disable catalyst control center, and just set the clocks in cgminer. I dont use anything else, no tricks, afterburner or whatever. cgminer lets you control clocks, fans and voltages, no need for anything else.
Beware of flashing bioses..
1643  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Best way to manage multiple rigs. Mgt program, miner, fallback, etc. on: January 13, 2012, 08:40:44 AM
BAMT looks good, but does it support things like dynamic fan and clocks the way cgminer does?
If it doesnt, I would also consider cgminer on linuxcoin. Its essentially maintenance free (pool failover, auto recovery of stalled gpus etc).
Consolidating the information in one screen the way BAMT does is still a bit work in progress, but its getting there. Anubis already lets you monitor (but not configure/manage) all your rigs from a single webpage.

Either of those PSUs should do it. Your existing one might, but like I said, its real close to the spec. Now high quality PSUs tend to be specced at high temperatures, meaning if your ambient temperature is low, you might exceed the rated spec (I have had an antec 500W earthwatt PSU that delivered 600+W without sweating), but you will find more PSUs that struggle to actually achieve what they are specced for. Enermax have a decent reputation, you might get lucky, particularly if you can keep the cpu load low.

If you are not too concerned about power efficiency, and more about cost, you can also use a second cheap/old PSU to power one of the videocards.
1645  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Enough Power? on: January 13, 2012, 08:00:34 AM
A quick google reveals your psu only delivers 32A (384W) on the 12V, which is basically all that matters. Thats cutting it REALLY close for a 5850 + 6770 + AMD X2. I wouldnt do it.
1646  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Free speech is free data; free data is free speech. on: January 12, 2012, 07:33:37 PM
That's a good point. It might be more efficient to just *gasp* fund the arts directly by governments. Yes, there is a subjective element and there would be some rent-seeking corruption, but at least it would allow us free speech while still providing enough intellectual goodies.

Ive said it all along; the only feasible way to abolish property rights is by massively expanding the government to take over  these kind of things that are in society interest, but not profitable without IP protection. that goes for all kinds of R&D, music, arts etc.

You die hard libertarians really want the government to do that?

Nothing is cut off, but when a block is found, your reward is based on your hashrate in the last 10 shifts. A shift lasts 1/10th of an average block. If you want all the mathematical details, go here:

1649  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New 4% Fee for ABCpool on: January 12, 2012, 04:38:11 PM
Its just human psychology; the bad moments (long blocks) last a long time, the good ones happen quickly and are easily forgotten. Math shows it averages out just the same.

BTW, that pool seems to have some good ideas (the mini pools) and some drop dead stupid one's, like the jackpot. Im considering creating a dozen throtteled cpu miners on separate accounts to chase the jackpot.
1650  Economy / Goods / Re: Asus 5850 for $120 on: January 12, 2012, 03:13:22 PM
I think may misunderstand the concept. The idea is that the buyer sends his coins to a trusted intermediary.
Upon reception of the goods, the buyer authorizes the intermediary to release the funds to you. Its really no hassle and its pretty good insurance against scammers.

I cant think of a single good reason to refuse escrow, other than when planning a scam.
If I missed one, please enlighten me?

1653  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: ANUBIS - a CGMINER Web Frontend on: January 12, 2012, 09:49:26 AM
I just installed it, and it works. Great job. Sent a small initial symbolic donation.

Some things Id like to see changed:
- the layout doesnt really make good use of large screen estate. No reason to use multiple lines within a row when the table is spanning only like 30% of my screen width
- show fan speed in overview
- configure different tresholds (temps, fan etc) for individual cards
- be able to sort and/or rearrange the table rows

And a question about the email notification; when does it notify? How do you configure it?

So you prefer the current system because it includes the threat of jail time rather than the libertarian threat of Huh (honestly I don't know what comes after lawsuit for a professional con artist).

The libertarian threat of nothing. People here are arguing all IP should be abolished, so counterfeiting would no longer exist or be a crime.  It would become a perfectly legal profession. Yes, I prefer the system where counterfeiting is a crime.

If your experience was only a few days, that might explain. Unless those days happened to be the first days of january on bitminter, when you got your shares paid 6x. Have a look here:
https://bitminter.com/stats/rewards

Heck, even my current shares today are being paid 4x.

Yes, you will have shares that will not be paid. But you have an equal chance of your shares being paid multiple times. In the end, you make the same as any other fair system, and more than simple proportional systems because those are not hop proof, so pool hoppers take a disproportionate share of the profits, at your expense. There is a reason they came up with PPLNS

The same way it works now... Think about it. Why do you trust the strange pharmacist in a strange city?

Because the penalties for producing and selling fake drugs are huge. He has little to no incentive to sell fakes, when he has a choice between makes a good living selling the real stuff, or living his life in jail selling fakes. He also has no competitive pressure from other pharmacies selling cheap fakes. Thats why I generally trust them. Here. I would never buy my drugs in Somalia though.
1657  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Free speech is free data; free data is free speech. on: January 12, 2012, 08:15:15 AM
The same way it happens now, experience and trust all the way down the supply chain, plus personally knowing people with tools/knowledge to verify. If upstream someone is protected by law (e.g. corporate personhood or they have powerful friends) it breaks down.

So do you personally know someone with tools/knowledge to verify medical drugs? Because I dont. And I do like being able to buy them in any pharmacy in any city I happen to travel to. Not only do I like that, my life actually depends on it.

Its bad enough its already a remote possibility today, even if completely illegal and with huge sanctions; it being completely legal as well as incredibly lucrative for some pharmacist to sell me lethal fake drugs, or some dealer to sell the pharmacists fakes, is not something I would look forward to. It doesnt take a lot of thinking to see this will happen often. After all, why wouldnt a pharmacist, particularly one thats about to retire or sell his pharmacy make a little fortune for a few months by selling fakes? So what if he gets caught; its legal.

Mind you, this is just drugs. It applies to anything, from aircraft spare parts to financial products.

EDIT:: P4, are you a couple of miners down or did you point them away from bitminter? Some new pool being tested?

No, I just rented a rig and that agreement expired. But I have some more cards on their way, Ill be back to 2 GH permanently next week.

1660  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should a Jewish resturant owner be forced to serve a skinhead? on: January 11, 2012, 10:21:21 PM
Every single example of segregation that you have just presented were universally present in southern states in the 60's because of state segregation & 'Jim Crow' laws that compelled private business owners to do so.  The "Freedom Rides" events are the prime example of this.  The cross country bus companies couldn't have cared less if there were blacks on the same bus as whites, but couldn't allow this to occur in certain states because of the law.  The same was true with the segregated bus stations, maintaining multiple facilities was more expensive than intergration, the free market most certianly would have fixed this one in the South if left to it's own devices, because that is exactly what happened everywhere else.

These segregation laws did not exist in the northern states, yet busses, schools ets where de factor segregated there too. Free market didnt help.

More over, we are talking about blacks, a large minority, that in fact, locally had a large majority. There is an economic incentive there; an incentive that doesnt exist for tiny minorities that do not live as concentrated as blacks did (and to some extend still do).
