2421  Economy / Speculation / Re: Again Indian markets are leading. India buying bitcoins for ~$1500 on: March 07, 2017, 09:59:33 AM
the most interesting part of this higher price to me is the accompanied high volume. i could have expected a lower volume with much higher price but it seems like the demand coming from India is so much more than we could have expected.

it seems like Indians are going to be the new Chinese.
2422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investing 100K€ in Bitcoin does it really worth? on: March 07, 2017, 09:42:35 AM
If you have that faith, go for it. But building up a trading portfolio with that amount of money may be more realistic

have faith? that doesn't compute with me Smiley
also i have to say, trading is not for everyone. i have tried it and i know for a fact that it is best to stay away if you are not good at it or you can't handle the stress and the time consumption.
besides if you are trading with $500 it is so different with trading with $100,000 or €
2423  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Backing up Electrum wallet on: March 05, 2017, 12:25:51 PM
I have installed and use Electrum. I have installed it on an external ssd and I have created a wallet (with a custom name) saved on the same ssd. Meaning that the program itself + my wallet are usually off line.

what do you mean "with some name"? did you give it a custom seed? because that can't be safe.
also on the SSD did you just install the wallet there and keeping the files there or is it like a live linux thing that most people suggest?

Quote
I put some BC in the wallet and now I wonder about backing up my wallet/money.

did you mean BTC?
as long as:
1) you do not connect that SSD to any computer
2) and have never connected that to another PC before this
3) and created the wallet on a safe offline environment
it is safe, otherwise consider it compromised.

Quote
a) I plan to copy the wallet file to some dvd rom. Do I understand it correctly that in case of calamity I could reinstall Electrum, just open the wallet file and have money and transactions history back? (At least up to the date of the backup?)

i can't see any reason why you should copy the wallet file to a DVD disk but you can. don't forget to encrypt the wallet file with a password.
you already have it on your SSD you don't need more.

if you need to spend then look up offline storage in Electrum FAQ. it has enough explanation.

Quote
b) I hear about "paper backup". I have already kept my seed words on a sheet of paper. Is that it? Is that the "paper backup"? Does that mean that in case of calamity I could reinstall Electrum, insert the words and have everything back?

you only need to secure your Seed. write it on a piece of paper and hide it in a safe place. that is enough for back up, restore and spending in the future.

Quote
c) Any other suggestions?

as i said create the wallet in a safe environment. meaning a linux OS preferably always offline and never connect that SSD to internet or any other computer again.

p.s. move your topic to appropriate board.
2424  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Open oder not executed on: March 05, 2017, 12:11:12 PM
as ~Bitcoin~ explained when you open up an order it goes into a queue which is like a line of customers one after another. in your case you got unlucky because there were more people (orders if front of you).

it looked like this:
in the orderbook:
Vol=900BTC     price=$1230.0

in reality:
1. 1BTC price=$1230.0
2. 25BTC price=$1230.0
3. 0.1BTC price=$1230.0
4. 0.9BTC price=$1230.0
5. 100BTC price=$1230.0
6. 693BTC price=$1230.0
7. 10BTC price=$1230.0
8. your order price=$1230.0
9. 20BTC price=$1230.0

multiple trades sold bitcoin to this orderbook in total of 820BTC in the queue orders from 1 to end of 6 were filled and orders from 7 to the end remained.
2425  Economy / Economics / Re: Investing Bitcoins? on: March 05, 2017, 11:59:18 AM
Doing any investments with bitcoins is doubly risky - additional factor is dynamic BTC/USD price, that can create extra profit or extra loss. In fact, any BTC deal or even holding coins is related to that.
However, increasing Bitcoin amount by doing investment can neutralize that effect (or boost wallet value when price goes up). My conclusions are following:
- Holding coins is not risk-free (can be considered as a kind of investment)
- Volatility of bitcoin leverages potential risks/chances for profit: successfull investment can minimize loss of value when markets go down but it can also make you lost more than expected

I would try to invest bitcoin ways to distinguish as a result of their bitcoin in your wallet. But to be honest, I was afraid of possible failures. While I understand that other methods will not work. But how not to run into a cheater, I do not know.

it is simpler than you may think: just use your brain!
i know it is a bit of weird answer but trust me. next time just start thinking about the investment you want to make. think about why would the other party give you profit and that much profit. that solves half of your cases. and for the other half just use google to find out what others are saying. and if it is good there will be feedback and if it is bad there will be feedback also.
2426  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000+ is perfectly possible in a post-ETF era on: March 05, 2017, 11:52:59 AM
i disagree with when you are putting it like this.
the $10,000+ price is still possible without ETF and with it. the only change that it can have for bitcoin is a very small more publicity and then that may lead to more people investing in bitcoin directly by going to one of the exchanges like coinbase and buying bitcoin to hold.
if they go to bank as you said and buy coin shares it won't change anything for bitcoin, its adoption and the price of it.

and i disagree with saying "bitcoin shares for not tech non geeks" because these days opening a wallet and using bitcoin is as easy as opening a paypal account. check out coinbase if you don't believe me. and although i don't like it but it is a good option for any newbie.
2427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: let's push the btc etf on: March 05, 2017, 11:44:05 AM
Come one! let's push the btc ETF.
let's write a letter to the SEC where we say why it is a good thing

why? i say lets forget about ETF! write a letter comment here and ask people to stop talking about it. we have already gotten so many topic about it and ETF isn't really going to do anything for us.
first because it is in the freaking US and the rest of the world don't even care about it.
second it is not investing in bitcoin it is investing in Winkewoss Smiley and it won't bring any investor in bitcoin it brings investors in Winklewoss Smiley
2428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin ETF approval and alts. on: March 04, 2017, 11:32:45 AM
I want to know some speculations about the effect of bitcoin ETF approval in 11 march on the altcoin if positive or negative , as i am not good at market analysis but i am mining many alts and sure i need to know , if bitcoin rises means alts goes down or up ?

it depends on how bitcoin price will react. i personally thing we won't see a big rise and most probably we will see a bump and then some cash out and price comes down.
so in case of rise altcoins might drop
and in case of drop altcoins might rise.
and pay attention that i say "might" because it is usually this way and sometimes the opposite happens.

if you are mining you should always mine the best thing that gives you the most profit. this is mostly depending on the difficulty + price + block reward not just the price of them.
2429  Economy / Economics / Re: panic selling on: March 04, 2017, 11:23:30 AM
This happens all days, people trade all day, all crypto currencies, bitcoin always has the biggest ammount, even with some altcoins showing up like dash. Im pretty sure on the next days a dump will come at bitcoin like what happened ad January, because at the moment there arent any news to impact the bitcoin price, besides the wish of people to see bitcoin breaking walls.

Yes, I also think that soon the price of Bitcoin decline slightly. That's when we all see a lot of hysterical people who will sell all of its assets
It's possible to decline because that is how the market behave, but the question is, does it cause a panic selling?
My opinion is not, people already given their trust with bitcoin and they know how strong it is, if the fact that it will fall we already expected it to rise again. Hence, if you sell and panic, you will not take the opportunity to grow your money.

every time there is a dip in price there is a panic selling at the same time without any exception. even if it is a small dip, it doesn't have to be massive or anything. just the price going down. it is because the market is still filled with weak hands and the orderbook is still not that thick to prevent these kinds of things.

but the number of panic sellers shrink as the time goes by. they become more experienced each time it happens and more people start to realize this and take advantage of the situation by buying when things like this happen!
2430  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price of BTC - up about 150% in the past 12 months. Reasons? on: March 04, 2017, 11:16:16 AM
If the block size is larger, the price could be higher.

the current situation with the block size and the additional spam attack that is going on, we have lots of problems and it actually is hurting bitcoin and slowing its adoption.
but if it was solved, the adoption that is needed for the price rise is not going to magically appear out of nowhere. it still takes time.
and as far as other speculators are concerned they don't care about the blocksize much. they just want to invest and make profit. so again block size won't change things for them either.
2431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm Hoarding Bitcoins, and No You Can't Have Any on: March 04, 2017, 11:11:18 AM
If you are always Hoarding , you will never make a profit.
And one day the price may drop below what you paid for it and stay there.
If so what was the point to hoarding it again?  Wink

you are comparing bitcoin to a random pump and dump altcoin. but with bitcoin it is not possible to see the price drop like what you think.
it is the matter of demand and demand for bitcoin is always there and it is increasing.
and this means when you buy any day and hold for long term price will be higher from what you have bought at no matter all the dips in the middle.
2432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think the big names are invested already? on: March 04, 2017, 11:05:37 AM
I believe price is continually increasing due to the fact that the same BIG BOYS and government's dependent private sector are secretly and slowly accumulating, if I was an investor the first thing I wanted to make sure was to completely be assured when I invest for example $200m and some day next week when I wake up my investment has grown and not destroyed by some third party involvement.
Good thing about bitcoin those third parties (miners and full nodes) want nothing other than the success and prosperity of my investment(bitcoins).

haha, you sound like some of those guys who wears a tinfoil hat everywhere!
there is no plausible reason for your "BIG BOYS" to be accumulating bitcoin just to crash its price. what you don't understand is that those big boys don't care about price of bitcoin but care about existence of bitcoin. and its price has no effect on what concerns them.
2433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: SHIFT Speculation Thread on: March 03, 2017, 11:11:38 AM
ETH, LISK, SHIFT

Best Portfolio

nah, Lisk is on a bad path, and unless a pumper comes around or unless they release something game changing, i can not see it as agood investment.

and i can't really see SHIFT as a viable investment it has some volume and it had pumps but nothing that interesting.

the best portfolio would have been Dash, ETH and ZEC in the past few days for maximized profitability and dumping Dash on top and i have a feeling ETH pump is going to stop too.
2434  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is better? To gamble or to invest? on: March 03, 2017, 11:05:07 AM
it is very strange to read some of the replies in this topic, when they keep repeating some keywords such as luck and risk. as if some of them have never made an investment versus made a bet in their life before.

risk is present everywhere, and luck is a part of our lives too. but that doesn't mean all we do, investment included, is a gamble without knowing the results.
2435  Economy / Speculation / Re: Front page of the BBC! on: March 03, 2017, 10:58:31 AM
as i said before, price rise and the fact that bitcoin has been doing very well in the past years will bring a lot of good publicity to bitcoin and will eventually lead to news coverage like this.
and all these good news will lead to more adoption and more rises.

i am only glad because i could catch the train about 2 years ago and i have a very solid investment.
2436  Economy / Speculation / Re: What to do? on: March 03, 2017, 10:51:55 AM
So what should one do when the price is at a peak or so high as it is at the moment, $1250+ right now. Is it time to cash in?

as you can see price already reached $1270+ today and there is no indication of this trend stopping for the time being.
you can't be sure, but right now i would wait to sell and wait for a while to see where the top is and then sell there to buy back in case of a price drop or buy back in case of i miscalculated and price continued going up, since i wouldn't want to miss out on anything just because i sold!

It is quite obvious that this is not the right time to buy bitcoin so what should be the plan of action at these times?

how is that obvious?!!
2437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 200,000,000 USD is being transfered daily using bitcoin! on: March 03, 2017, 10:46:05 AM
You should probably add a disclaimer somewhere in OP. In no way does this represent actual people moving money for actual services, goods and whatever. It includes everything, including:
1) People moving money to their own (other) addresses/wallets.
2) Exchanges and other services moving their money.
3) Moving Bitcoin into cold-storage (can fall under both point 1 or 2).
and you forgot trading with zero fees, so selling in one second 100 bitcoin to buy it again couple seconds later.
Bots moving so fast coins that it building momentum in such graphs.

and you forgot to read the topic first and take a look at the chart!
this chart is representing the "transaction volume" not the "trading volume" what you are saying about the zero fees is about "trading" and has nothing to do with this since that is done off-chain inside an exchange website.
2438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin without Altcoin ? on: March 02, 2017, 10:18:35 AM
then there would be no competition and bitcoin's demand will be not as much as now we have because, people trade with altcoin and they use bitcoin a s a medium of currency for buying and selling so altcoin plays a good role in bitcoin's lifecycle.
Yes, that's what I thought too, altcoins play an important role in bitcoin's existence and the other way around, they support each other and especially for bitcoin, altcoins help stimulate the growth of bitcoin as they make bitcoin more valuable and bring it up high. Altcoins are like keystone species, whose absence has devastating effects on the ecology. Without them, bitcoin would stand alone and have no specific growth as it has no competitors.
That is exactly what the point is Altcoins or Alternative Coins are not even what I call as "Alternative" because as of now Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that is being use or being accepted in businesses. Altcoins right now are just being use just to be traded from one to another. Other altcoins such as Doge Coin and Ethereum comes only to 2nd too Bitcoin in terms of being accepted, and as far as I know gambling sites are the only ones accepting them. Hoping for the next Bitcoin might be hard because Bitcoin's growth has not yet reach its peak.

Lol do you know what you really are talking about?  Competition takes away user from each competing coins.  It is like talking about a community with one shop and another scenario of having two shop that offers  same service.  Just think of these scenario and you will fully grasp the idea.  More coins means  more choice thus creating less demand to  each one of these coins.

that is correct but not an answer to what he said!
two shops that are offering the same goods will divide the users among them.
two coins that are offering the same features can take some users from bitcoin.
but the question is "is there any altcoin that is offering same features or can offer the same features" and the answer is not completely yes!
there are some coins that come close but they are not worthy competition enough to make people switch to an altcoin.
2439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin seems to be still the best pick on: March 02, 2017, 10:04:31 AM
you are saying Dash and ETH as if they are the only two altcoins that had gone up in the past week!
everyday in altcoin market there is a new coin that is being pumped. the only difference is that those altcoins are being pumped and one or two person only talk about them and volume is less than 100BTC but with those two the volume is bigger and shills are also more and bagholders are also more so they are seen more!!!

if you want profit you can invest in anything and make profit and then go back to bitcoin with a larger wallet.

What about Litecoin ?

Litecoin is still under the radar for the time being. and it will get pumped to the moon at some point.

my expectation is mostly when SegWit is activated on it or when Chinese exchanges open again.
2440  Economy / Economics / Re: Tell me your predictions about Bitcoin on: March 02, 2017, 09:55:32 AM
What is the obstacles, challenges and problems that Bitcoin can face it in 5 years? How we can help Bitcoin to take more authoritative place in the world of currency system?
In my opinion bitcoin will face a big problems in near the future .

you are answering to a question asked in 2015 so your answer about near future means 2015 and no problem has happened in 2015 and not going to happen in 2017-2018,... either.

I mean many peoples like carders going to make carding by purchase the detail of high prices CC through bitcoin payment .

those credit cards scammers are using 1001 method to steal money and that 1 method they use is through bitcoin and the other 1000 are not. what is your point here?
and i don't know where you are looking but i have never seen anybody do this with bitcoin! which means that is an extremely rare situation or you are making assumptions.
