2441  Economy / Speculation / Re: btc bullrun after chinese new year? on: February 13, 2018, 08:44:26 PM
I see nothing other than real positive news lately. I mean real news from reliable verifiable sources not just FUD by shit news services that should be fined for publishing crap that is later proven to be false and only FUD.

We should start to ID the news publishers who have published fake / twisted variations on real events.

Their journalism should be the same standard for crypto as for their other stories.

I think that these places publishing FUD should be fined actually for the ruin they have caused many investors.
2442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What or who is still holding btc down? and why? on: February 13, 2018, 08:41:47 PM
Still for sure I would not sell at these levels and I suspect most of the large holders (not that i am a large holder at all) would not consider it either.

I see nothing but mostly very positive news lately.  I mean news not made up FUD.
2443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What or who is still holding btc down? and why? on: February 13, 2018, 07:12:01 PM
with all the fud and bullshit cleared and the main govs regulating ready for mainstream taxation and adoption what is still holding btc down at these levels?

2445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: February 13, 2018, 02:34:39 PM

I am done with bitbay
The market value has now seriously start to decline, but who really believes bitbay will be a major Company like ebay, alibaba etc?
Good luck!

the entire market has corrected hard.

i think it can be better than both of those actually i don't dare use alibaba as it is but if it had dde then i would consider it for sure

Bitbay is not good as capturing the latest fads and using them to gain popularity... we miss every fad as it comes and goes. I mean many that put these fads on their road maps remove them when they later lose popularity anyway.

Latest fad is dag, hashgraphs, exotic sharding methods anything that is a bit different from btc. If we announced something like this the market would go crazy for bitbay.

When btc is given a few work arounds to stop it getting jammed up and reduce fees ie LN then all the fuss about moving past blockchain to " other" methods will die down again or perhaps it will not.

We simply need more comparison threads that are kept on the front page of the main board highlighting bitbay and how much functionality you get for your buck.. most other projects have no answer to this question that is our strong point. It is a bargain project nobody can really compare. The main board is a total and utter dream marketing zone. This is super targeted noob central looking for new projects bay should be on there full time in their face.

I started a real projects thread and put bay on the top. But nobody except a couple of people bothered keeping discussion going on it. It brought attention to 8 real players out of thousands but still the bay community hides up on slack hoping for people to find it by total miracle. We have apparently an entire marketing team yet not one keeps this thread on the first few pages or helps with bumping threads on the main board. I have no idea where they are marketing and who too.  There are whales with millions upon millions of bitbay - use some of those to employ people to put effort into marketing bitbay else your millions will never be worth 10% of what they should be if the project was given some real attention here.

We need to build a team of people with a real skillset and good at what they do. If they need to be incentivised then that is what needs to be done.

with such financial powerhouses as these 5 how can bitcoin stand a chance?

meanwhile other minor league players like the US EU and Japan are pushing ahead full steam and regulating ready for main stream.

So really you are turning yourself into a fully skilled crypto developer.
It's not my intention. I'm a cognitive psychologist by discipline and a cognitive scientist by profession, the latter mainly defined by its use of computational models as investigative tools (hence my broad but patchy knowledge of programming / software engineering --- it was acquired pragmatically and in a piecemeal fashion). Although local constraints circumscribe my involvement to that of a hobbyist, if I had a professional interest as such, it would be in what you might be forgiven for thinking is a bit far-fetched but is very real and also very pertinent to altcoin communities: aspects of Theory of Mind as they pertain to collective intelligence.

https://gfbertini.wordpress.com/2016/04/25/theory-of-mind-predicts-collective-intelligence-equally-well-online-and-face-to-face/

For convenience:

Have you ever wondered what factors may shape the interactions we have in online chatrooms? With the advent of the Internet 20+ years ago, the ways in which we communicate have drastically changed, allowing us to easily interact nonverbally or anonymously. Whether it's in a chatroom, email thread, or an online forum, most of us have taken part in some form of group communication on the Internet. Maybe, unbeknownst to us, we became a part of the group's collective intelligence, a form of group intelligence that can surface after collaboration and competition among individuals in the group. But some scientists are wondering, how can we measure the ability of others to communicate in a group, and how can we quantify the effectiveness of a group?

Two traits that make us "distinctly human" are our abilities to empathize and to interact well in social settings with others. These traits are usually measured in face-to-face situations, and may be more difficult to measure online, away from in-person social cues.

One factor that correlates to overall collective intelligence is "Theory of Mind" (ToM), or the ability of one individual to understand the mental state of another and recognize it as distinct from their own; what some may consider "mind reading." In a recent PLOS ONE study, MIT researchers tested the hypothesis that ToM, which can be used to predict collective intelligence in collaborative face-to-face tasks, can almost equally predict collective intelligence in online collaboration. One individual's ability to "read" the behavior of another individual can help contribute to successful communication and overall group intelligence. More than that, this ToM ability may exist even where verbal communication is prohibited, and may contribute to successful communication within an online group.
I'm applying an altcoin context to the questions: “how can we measure the ability of others to communicate in a group, and how can we quantify the effectiveness of a group”.

Except that I'm changing the question away from measurement and quantification to: “how can we best support ...”

Basically, my interest is in understanding the user task information requirements - what information is required to perform a specific task and how it should be presented to best support the process (of creating and maintaining accurate mental models of others).

Quote
Are there any specific questions ...
Unfortunately not. The Navcoin clone of Bitcoin Core 0.13 was an exercise in expediency, with parts of the code short-circuited in order to simplify the initial PoW phase - which I hadn't expected, so wasn't looking for.

It's because by the time Bitcoin Core 0.13 was released, the block generation part of the in-wallet miner had been completely obsoleted on mainnet by the shift to ASIC mining and the functionality/API had been adjusted to assume a testnet context with setgenerate (create blocks via continuous hashing) giving way to generate/generatetoaddress (create blocks on demand).

I tried the x11 miner without success and stopped at that point. So I'd had to use generatetoaddress to hand-crank the blockchain. What I hadn't spotted was that the API block generation code generated candidate blocks according to PoW diff rules, in an entirely different location in the codebase, the code had been adjusted so that (all) candidate blocks were checked against PoS diff rules, hence the failure to match. I guess the Navcoin devs chose a different route.

I was able to route the candidate PoW blocks to the appropriate checks and get generatetoaddress working, hand-cranking (via a scheduled task) the PoW block generation phase. I have left Navcoin's staking schedule in place (because it has a 2hr minimum staking time whereas Bee has 7 days and I'm not hanging around for a week).

Anyway, staking does seem to be working ...

(The 50 BEE amounts aren't actually stakes, they are mislabelled PoW blocks.)

Also do you mean because we are trying to conduct this upgrade in the fairest way with this kind of auto balance shift to the new chain that it is proving to be much more complex than if we just forked nav coin and did a coin swap over to the new code base like that?
No, I was merely explaining the presence of a test premine in the committed code as “Plan B”. But having already performed some limited tests of the ledger transfer mechanism, I do have some justification for expecting “Plan A” to execute flawlessly.

But you might want to try it out for yourself. ATM, a candidate pre-release version of the Bee Core 0.13 network using a throwaway UTXO set is (thus far) happily ticking away on minkiz.co (our rented Hetzner box) and on two Linux laptops running locally (my new XPS with Mint 18.2 and my old Acer running Ubuntu 17.10).

I imagine most subscribers to this thread use Windows and am happy to report that (bar a couple of small tweaks) MXE cross-compilation of Windows binaries works out of the box  (https://minkiz.co/noodlings/bee/bee-qt.exe.zip), although I've not had chance to check its functioning on a Windows VM as yet. Edit: Windows users will need to set port=19999 in the config file, at least until I refresh the binary

Linux source code is available pro tem from: https://github.com/gjhiggins/been

It should just sync straight up. If not, addnode=144.76.64.49:19999

You should be able to check whether your imported BEE2 privkeys show any balance at all and if they do, whether they stake (2hrs minimum wait, atm). It's an elderly UTXO, when we're ready actually do the hard fork, I'll update it to reflect the distribution at that point and re-do entire the genesis block creation / PoW mining phase.

Cheers

Graham

That's quite interesting and I do also find that the case in real life too. The more a person can chameleon himself to fit smoothly with another or for the best within a group of persons the more valuable they are. Even more so if the group is very varied in personality/ability types and they (the chameleons are like the oil that ensure least friction between the cogs. They are kind of like the interface that allows a connection between all parties. Extremely smart people often do not relate well to normal persons so their value (in a collective online effort) is not always as dominant as their iq would have you assume.

Great news on the new wallet I am going to download and test this out asap.

I have been sadly contemplating not having a lambo lately (since my crypto stash of value tumbled to more second hand older bmw levels) so not been so active on this board. But now i have spotted bee is springing to life again it will be great to help get it back on its feet.

I will ask if john can send out the mass message for beelievers to test the new bee wallet out.

thanks for your hard work graham. Although i don;t follow  what exactly is happening it seems obvious it is a time consuming and quite a nasty task to get all of this stuff working correctly.
2450  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 12, 2018, 06:21:21 AM
Any news on the march airdrop, I could really do with some good news!

AFAIK news about march airdrop will be released next week.

That's good news. Many are waiting anxiously for the next airdrop since it has been a long time from the last airdrop, November as I recall? The strategy for some of the big investors is to wait out the completion of the free distribution before making any serious investment.

Of course it is a risky play to invest in something when such a massive % is retained by one person whom also does not take note of anything the community suggests and acts with 100% impunity, and where the implied distribution pattern is altered on the fly.

Lucky for tonych he appears honest, reliable and skillful otherwise  byteball would be ranked lower in mc terms than it already is.

2451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CRYPTO BULLION (CBX) | Inventor of PoSP! | 2017 Road-Map PUBLISHED! on: February 12, 2018, 06:14:39 AM
My two cents:

Surely the base insentive here is to reward the most stable/reliable BPN nodes, always online always processing transactions - without fail. If you have a flaky connection or are about to move house I would suggest you set up some proper infrastructure to host your BPN (Amazon, Azure etc...) The amount of money you can make from running a BPN will/could well go above and beyond a hobbyist crypto-staker and as such it would be inappropriate or unrealistic to think you could casually just run it on your old laptop whilst making a small fortune. - Aside from up-time and high reliability what about security? (physical and digital), what about backup and disaster recovery? - when the money gets serious the old laptop in the cupboard approach will not do, some bitcoin mines have diesel generators on standby and even employ guards to protect their assets!

If running a BPN is not for you then feel free to stake, it's not as profitable however its still free money Smiley

I like the idea of a limited queue, it fosters competition to "be the best", you deploy the most stable/reliable infrastructure you can muster and wait your turn, it might take a few months to grab a place in the queue but if it takes 4-8 months to be in a position to make thousands a day for basically doing nothing then I think I can wait...

FR

Mostly true but if it did take months?? (in crypto that is akin to decades) would you actually park you coins there and get nothing in return whilst you wait?

If you would that is cool. Not sure many would though.

We can try it and see. However like you say if it ever becomes worth 1000's per day to have a MN then most will make sure they do have the reliability to retain a MN and you  could be waiting a very long time indeed.

I would think the queue should earn at the very least 50% stakers rate.
2452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are the "not minable" coins like Ripple, Cardano, NEO, IOTA not the good coins? on: February 12, 2018, 06:06:35 AM
Ripple is a typical BankCoin and XRP is "pre-mined".  Ripple has no mining or miners whatsoever. Instead, transactions are powered through a “centralized” blockchain, the key word being, “centralized

A "Good" crypto currency are not pre-mined and has a decentralized Blockchain and no central authority. Bitcoin  and Litecoin is good, but Ethereum was pre-mined to line the pockets of a bunch of founders, making them filthy rich.

Can you spot the difference?

Agree but even ethereum has a large POW mining phase.

these others he mentions are far worse with no mining and all premined
2453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are the "not minable" coins like Ripple, Cardano, NEO, IOTA not the good coins? on: February 12, 2018, 06:03:17 AM
the not minable ones are mostly narrowly distributed schemes which are very easy to make appear to have huge caps

its not really minable vs non minable its narrow distributed vs widely distributed. Not all mined coins are widely distributed.

Of course non minable coins are never able to be trustless decentralised projects.

over heated, started to correct... tons of groundless FUD at the correct time =  over correction. Should have bottomed at 12k really.

btc will still pull back strong but weak hands are now out and will remain so until pulled back in just as the next peak approaches so they can get their pants pulled down all over again.

the manipulators are accumulating hard during the sales.

long term btc up
long term alts diluted to shit

everyone wants more btc at the end of the day

there are a handful of alts with true crypto centered dev teams the rest is dreams and talk marketeers

It is possible how :

I was wondering if there was more news on the crypto devs that have joined the project.... what are they working on?

bitbay
blocknet
byteball
pivx
xrb
sys
komodo

each of those have proven tested dev teams that already have functioning software and are pretty much all undervalued

btc should surely hit this figure but it needs to bring a lot more development forth to stop the leakage to alts that don't really have any reason to exist if btc can solve a few issues.
