2461  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do Atheists hate Religion ? on: February 18, 2016, 05:47:05 PM
The oldest near factual distance we can go back is barely 5,000 years. Carbon dating has proven itself unreliable. Sumer dating through the "pottery" method suggests an age possibly as far back as 5,000 years. And even that is not a certainty. We can tell that the earth is older than that, but we can't tell haw old beyond that. We absolutely have a lot of guesses, however. Since they are guesses, people who believe them as fact have a religion going for themselves.

Cool
Carbon dating is absolutely not unreliable whatever you say. And not only that but carbon dating is not the only method we use to date old things. It's plain stupidity to think that the world is 5k years old.

The fact that carbon dating is unreliable isn't my idea by any means. Google it.

Even tree ring and ice core samplings are judgmental in the ways they are used to date things.

We might be able to go back a little past 4,500 years or so, but beyond that, it becomes very unclear - dating pottery and written-on-clay fragments.

Lingual and genetic changes seem to trace back only to about 5,000 years. Beyond that even these kinds of datings become foggy.

What else is there other than guesswork?

Cool

FOGGY? WTF???

Carbon dating is EXTREMELY RELIABLE! Yeah go and Google it! Seems you need to:
"The reliability of the results can be improved by lengthening the testing time. For example, if counting beta decays for 250 minutes is enough to give an error of ± 80 years, with 68% confidence."

It means you have 70% to have the right date with 80 years error. So if you do it 10 times in a row, you have A FUCKING GOOD RELIABILITY!!!

And again carbon 14 datation is not at all the only one used by scientists! Do you even know how it works?

and bronze age dating is crystal clear. 13.8 billion is just 6 days and 4.5 billion is 6000 years.  Give it take few years  Roll Eyes

Nothing wrong with the math here. Seems clear to me. Cheesy

Back when I considered myself a Christian (I was 12), I asked my pastor about the dating... he actually had a decent argument (as far as Christian apologetics goes)

Quote from: 2 Peter 3:8
But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day
(this was how he justified dinosaurs... thousands of years between day 2 and day 3 of creation story gives time for dinosaurs before man was created)

Realistically, that still doesn't add up... even if the 6 days were 6000 years... that is still a far cry from 13.8 billion...

Why most of atheists here on this forum feel so threatened that they have to attack against religious world view all the time?
Are they so insecure about their own world view? Why they are so scared?  Smiley

We come out because it is age of reason, Information Age, not Middle Ages or Bronze Age.

The time for your bullshit ideas has passed.  Accept it and we can all move on.

Religion had its time in the Sun.

I for one know there is no God, devil, heaven or hell.  Never was never will.

If you have proof to change my mind, we already have a thread for that.

Honestly... I'm glad that Christians do not read the bible...

Could you imagine if they all read Leviticus, and believed those verses were commands from God?...

Every one of them would be a serial killer, and there would be no humans left on the planet... that is how many people God orders you to kill in that single book!... basically, kill everyone you don't like (and kill most of the people you do like)...

Atheists are neither threatened nor scared...

Atheists have been under attack from Christians since... well... forever...

Atheists want to remove all the crazy laws that Christians have established in this country... like laws that allow you to murder your child in the name of religion (prayer in lieu of medical treatment)... homophobic laws... (previously slavery... look it up... Christians used the bible to support slavery!)... shall I bring up the witch-hunts (I live in the city where that happened)?

Scared?  No... Tired of being pushed around?  Yes!

Why you keep making lies like that and act scared?

Only one of us is making up lies, and its definitely not the Atheist

Atheists tend to believe in facts, truth, logic, evidence and reality... if you cannot prove it... it didn't happen. Period. End of story

Atheists are only now beginning to defend themselves against all the lies and slander that Christians have thrown at us throughout the centuries... It's self-defense

What is interesting is all the stuff you think the bible says...

You are so wrong, it is obvious to all of us who have actually read the Bible...

You still haven't come up with any quotes from the Bible saying not to eat meat and milk together.

You think the Bible says that in multiple places, but you're wrong.

But being wrong didn't stop you before, and it doesn't stop you from repeating the same things after you're proven wrong.

I find it interesting that you focus on the single thing that you think I am wrong about... I handed you the 3 biblical quotes... Don't cry because you misinterpret what God commanded...

I assure you, I am not wrong, ask any Jew... Any Jew on the planet will tell you what God said in the bible. Ya know, those Jews, who actually wrote the bible, in Hebrew... Do not assume your English translation is perfect... Some of us can read Hebrew...
2467  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How can I create my own religion? on: February 18, 2016, 04:56:45 PM
Religion is a great business these days.
How can I create my own religion and get followers?

You could try convincing people that you found a magic golden book, and that you put a magic rock in a magic hat, which translates the magic golden book for you...

No wait, the Mormons already did that...

Let's see... You could write some fantastic story about an ancient space alien who tied all his enemies to volcanoes then blew them up with nuclear bombs...

Shit, that's Scientology...

Hmm... Seems like all the good ideas have already been taken Shocked
2468  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Vs Cruz on: February 18, 2016, 04:53:14 PM
I'd like to know what everyone thinks about the two, at least in regard to Pros and Cons for the two.

I'll start off with saying that I feel that Trump is outspoken, which can be a GOOD thing and a VERY BAD THING.

Cruz, I fully dislike the whole thing about "New York Values" that he said.

both of them are such bastards.. i dont have any feelings about them..

Personally I still think Cruz is still the worse of two evils. But that's just my own opinion.

Maybe if you mash them together?

Can you picture Trump's hair and orange skin mixed with the troll-face of Cruz?
2469  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can you feel the Bern? on: February 18, 2016, 04:45:17 PM
No, not at all Smiley
In fact I don't trust him.
He pretend to be different from other politicians and that he really cares for average people but look his life.
How long he is professional politician, and member of US congress.
Very long, almost all his professional life.
What he did for average people all this time?
Nothing.
Why he decided to join democratic party just recently?
Because he is greedy for position in the White house and understand that alone he don't have any chance?
He is definitely not my choice for the US President.

I don't see how that matters...

Bernie is the good guy... He does not take bribes from banks, pharmacies, billionaires, etc

He has been in politics for 40 years fighting for your civil rights! Don't judge the man if you don't know a fucking thing about him (you call Bernie greedy? LoL)

The only reason Bernie is a politician is to fix the system... You cannot fix it from the outside, it is not possible

Look at the image I posted a few posts ago with Bernie in the middle seat of a plane flying coach, while Hillary Clinton is flying in a private jet with 5000 ft of leg room...

Hillary is corrupt, Bernie is not... This is really the only fact you need, but please do your own research
2470  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Crazy shit Bible says, crazy shit Christians say on: February 18, 2016, 04:37:48 PM
What's interesting is the zealots here who are rabidly insisting on telling me what I believe.

They don't believe in the Bible, but they claim to be able to interpret it better than thousands of scholars.

And they hate anyone who disagrees with their biased agenda-driven interpretations.

It's sad when people are indoctrinated with such dogma that causes them to hate and attack people, even while they're speaking in ignorance and telling other people what to believe.

I think a lot of people are driven away from atheism because of all the atheists who try to control people by forcing their beliefs on others and attacking and silencing all different opinions through intimidation and mockery.

I guess it's based in xenophobia and the hatred of diversity and anyone being different from themselves.  Basically like racism.

What is interesting is all the stuff you think the bible says...

You are so wrong, it is obvious to all of us who have actually read the Bible...

Do you think I could convince anyone that the bible says Obama created the universe? No! Because anyone who has read the Bible knows it is a lie...

They would also assume I had never read the Bible if I made such a wild claim!

It is silly to accuse someone of making claims that the bible says what it does not... When they link and quote the exact verse for you...
2471  Other / Off-topic / Re: Scientific proof that God exists? on: February 18, 2016, 07:07:48 AM
Yeah, right - nuggets. Still, you people with the flat earth and God exists and other propaganda should let people decide for themselves.

Nobody can force another to believe in God. Even for-real brainwashing doesn't stick.

Are you sure about that?  It seems to have worked on you...

But in the foxholes... In times of great pain, fear, joy, or pleasure, all but a very few people acknowledge God. It is our nature to recognize God without proof.

The aphorismus, "there are no Atheists in foxholes", is really a backwards argument...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There_are_no_atheists_in_foxholes#Notable_counterexamples

It assumes that everyone in a foxhole is hiding, praying to God to save their life...

The problem is... if Christians actually believed God would protect them from bullets, they would have no need for hiding in a foxhole... therefore, one can conclude, "there are no Christians in foxholes"... quite the opposite of your hypothesis (as always)
2472  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Pruning questions on: February 18, 2016, 06:56:40 AM
So using this pruning you can reduce size of synchronized folder?
Youtube video about this will be very helpful.

Yes, it reduces the data stored... I set it to 550MB (the minimum), which ends up taking ~2GB of disk space instead of 60GB

Keep in mind, you lose a bit of functionality... If you ever need to rescan the blockchain, it will need to download the entire 60GB again
2473  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Homosexuality is caused by being molested on: February 18, 2016, 06:44:54 AM
Or hating two (or more lesbians) fisting themselves.  You might not find it attractive to look at, but hating them? What for?

Nobody hates lesbians, that's a myth...

Even God only hates when gay men have sex, he never says anything bad about lesbians in the bible...
Quote from: Leviticus 20:13
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them

Everyone loves woman on woman action... Atheist, Christian, man, woman, straight, gay, bisexual, white, black, even gods... everyone loves the lesbians!
2474  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Proof that God exists on: February 18, 2016, 06:38:10 AM
If one sits down and thinks logically for a few minutes then he will have no reason to doubt that God does exist. In peace everybody can feel the existence of God for sure. God lives within us.
After all, look around you, that red rose spewing out perfume, isn't it perfect? how crops grow perfectly, when rain falls, the sun shines, rivers flowing endlessly, surely a human can not have created it. Only God can.

For everything that you call perfect, there is an example of something horrible...

Look at all the variety of diseases... HIV, leprosy, Down's syndrome, etc...

What about cancer?  Is that another one of God's lovely gifts to mankind?

For every flower, there is a thorn or poison ivy... for every cute puppy, there is a crocodile... you can't cherry pick your perfect world... it's far from perfect

My favorite are the mosquitoes... God must have been in a sour mood when he created the mosquito, right?
2475  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's your opinion of gun control? on: February 18, 2016, 05:20:26 AM
I feel that gun control is needed in order to stop people that have a mental condition / issue that may make them kill innocent people / harm them. Gun control has to be done to an extent is all.

That law is already there... If you have ever been committed to a mental institution, you are not allowed to own a gun

The only issue is person to person sales... a gun dealer runs a background check, but your buddy could still buy a gun for you (known as a straw-man purchase, also illegal)... or gun shows, which is considered person to person, not dealer (at least it used to be, I think Obama wrote an Executive Order about this recently)
2476  Other / Politics & Society / Re: New Islam versus Old Islam. Two radically differing views. on: February 18, 2016, 05:09:19 AM
She is an Atheist, and "culturally Muslim", she follows a Muslim dress code, but she does not believe in angel Gabriel, Muhammad and God.

Arab world need more people like her to re-program the rest.

Actually, they mention that she doesn't normally follow the dress code, and that she only wore the hijab to disguise her identity, and protect her family from religious reprisal (then of course shouts her name at the end)

Definitely not a "new Muslim" though... I agree on the cultural Muslim... like the Atheistic "cultural Jews"... It's difficult to go full Atheist in a country where they will murder you for Apostasy...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostasy#Islam

I personally don't see much difference between the fundamentalist Muslims and fundamentalist Christians...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostasy#Christianity

They both sound batshit crazy to me

I came here in peace guys because of the topic "Proof that God exists" and I want to prove it to you but it seems all of you were contradicting to my belief and testimony but I respect all of you my beloved friends and thank you for sharing all your thoughts, opinions and knowledge.

I will still follow this thread but if you want to know more about how God is good to us and to my beloved brethren you can just leave me a message to share it to you guys.

Peace be with you I love you all in the name of the Lord.

Best regards.
2479  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Proof that God exists on: February 18, 2016, 03:57:42 AM
If you managed to convince yourself that Jesus Christ is real, that is fine.  But it does not make it true, outside your brain.  He does not exist in real world.  Period.

He did exist 2,000 years ago. The bible is also about the history and many historians compared it and there are accurate scriptures / happenings that did happen in the past. Like the babylonia, Egypt and even Israel. And I think you know it.

First off, the "bible" wasn't even compiled until 331 AD when a bunch of dudes voted on it
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea

It is most definitely not historically accurate...
Many dates are off by a factor of 30-100 years (the reign of certain kings for example)...
If you compare the gospels, you will find Jesus appears in cities hundreds of miles apart on the same day without any mention of teleporting himself and his 12 disciples
The list of historical inaccuracies is quite long...

There is literally zero non-biblical evidence that Jesus ever existed
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_myth_theory
Feel free to check out Dr. Richard Carrier's book, On the Historicity of Jesus: Why We Might Have Reason for Doubt

There are also many unknowns about the bible... like who wrote which books, and when...

The earliest gospel (Luke) was supposedly written 40 years after Jesus died.  Given that would put the author at more than double the life expectancy, it's likely not an eye-witness account... Even if it was, how well do you remember events from 40 years ago?

The gospels written after Luke almost certainly copied vast sections

Even the books attributed to Moses are up for debate... some contend there are four or more authors of the Pentateuch
