2481  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-12-26] Binance Blockade of Wasabi Wallet Could Point to a Crypto Crack-Up on: December 30, 2019, 01:13:06 AM
Is bitcoin losing in its fight versus the fiat system? I reckon there is nothing users could do versus exchanges, which might be the real power overseeing everything behind the cryptospace.

Nah. Some day there'll be a significant proportion of people earning and paying in crypto and it'll be the thing they'll want above anything else in return for selling their shit.

There'll always be the need for fiat but it won't be the absolute be all and end all as it is now. This is a transitional period.

The quicker the loop closes the less power the old system has. Just as their anality reaches fever pitch they may find a whole section of the world's population has drifted away with little requirement to dip into their anus in future.

Right this very moment I am earning BTC writing this bilge. I've paid a few people with it for repairs and a few bits of tat and they've paid others with it. Next year I'm renting a place in the US with BTC. I directed the bloke to Bitpay but he said wasn't interested and intended to see where it went. Times that by a few countries and off you go.
2482  Economy / Exchanges / How many here are using Cash App? on: December 30, 2019, 12:49:07 AM
I find it weird how people here seem to fixate on the same old clapped out fuckholes run by nobodies but rarely talk about some of the major services out there.

Cash App is one of them. It's backed by a tech titan. Its ethics tend to align with the less evil end of things and it's there waiting to be loaded on your phone.

They're now talking about limit orders and recurring purchases.

https://cryptocult.co/2019/12/29/cash-app-thinking-of-adding-limit-orders-recurring-purchases-and-gifting-to-bitcoin/

Has anyone been tempted away from their usual exchanges by this?
2483  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-12-28] Bomb Threats Demanding Bitcoin Force Evacuations Across Russia on: December 29, 2019, 10:56:20 PM
Who knows what extortion a future of cryptoness and the shameful lack of security applied to the interconnected world will create? I'd say we were just getting warmed up.

When your car, vibrator, pacemaker, toothbrush, proctologist, womb, cat and more all have wifi with gaping holes in them and we have law enforcement that has little to no interest in pursuing any online crime scum will be in paradise.
2484  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex revives unverified accounts on: December 29, 2019, 10:48:06 PM
Does anyone know whether they'll loosen up on radioactive nationalities like Iranians and Syrians? I assume almost certainly not but they could scrape up some business if they went full axis of evil.

As for myself nothing they've done has done anything other than incrementally reduce the faith I started with there in 20whatever it was. And since Justin Sun looks like a goosed phallus with a wig on, and also initially denied having anything to do with the sale, I'm gone for good.

2485  Other / Meta / Re: This is not a stake your Bitcoin address here thread, but an interesting reminder on: December 29, 2019, 10:41:22 PM
It was so long ago I have no idea what my staked address is and it's probably part of a seed that's been long since discarded. I'll have to have a new year spruce up.

Wouldn't want to start the new year with my account dropping messages like 'Dear, I liking the bit coins for we make excellent profitings' with no way to stop it.
2486  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Worsening Lebanese Crisis May Spark Bitcoin Adoption on: December 29, 2019, 07:23:22 PM
I do not think the people are too aware of Bitcoin, like for example the Turks are, who as soon as we had a few months ago the Turkish Lira nose dive, you saw hoards of Turks going into Bitcoin and the digital currency markets at large.

Where's the evidence for that?

Turkish Localbitcoins volume has been tiny since forever and what spikes there are have followed everyone else's attention. This week it's been a deeply impressive $31,000.

As for that survey that told us 20% of the Turkish population owns BTC, gimme a bleedin' break.
2487  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How Exactly Does Crypto Arbitrage Trading Work? (guide) on: December 29, 2019, 02:01:05 PM
Why Are There Price Differences?

This is something I see newcomers balls up all the time.

When there's a glaring price difference they never seem to realise that it's almost always because something is fucked with the exchange they're getting excited about. That usually means you can't deposit or withdraw from the skewed market or it's totally inaccessible to them a la South Korea.

They seem to act like they've uncovered some special sauce that no one else has cottoned on to. In reality if it were possible to milk it it would be sucked dry in seconds.

I hope they figure that out before wasting their time on it.
2488  Economy / Collectibles / Re: MESSAGE FROM GRAVITATE CASH OUT COINS NOW on: December 29, 2019, 11:40:45 AM
Convo is more about how he seems to be a victim. All in all got my 0.02btc which should be on the coins.

After all this time I still don't quite understand his attitude to all this, whether he'd admitted to anything or what has actually occurred.

Either all the coins were created correctly in the first place which means he has no ongoing obligations and no need to throw teenage girl wobblies, or they weren't. It seems plenty weren't.
2489  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next Bitcoin Halving will drive the price down... on: December 29, 2019, 01:20:13 AM
Do you know the immediate price after the last halving? This is not something that I paid attention to last time and it would be interested to see how the market reacted before and after the last halving and compare that with the first Bitcoin halving event.

Very little happened. It was July 9th 2016 and the price was $654. It was relatively flat for several months after. It only started to rise strongly and broke the $1000 barrier at the end of the year. At the start of 2016 it was $450 ish so it did work its way up towards the halving.
2490  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next Bitcoin Halving will drive the price down... on: December 29, 2019, 12:57:02 AM
The culture of Bitcoin mining went away from enthusiasts and early adapters into a much colder and darker commercial place.

Mining that isn't cold and commercial would mean the eventual death of Bitcoin.

We would of course be nowhere without the early enthusiasts but they can't be depended on if it's no more than a hobby or passion. The more cutthroat it is the stronger it'll be.

If one mining operation can't cut it another one will be along who can. That's how it's always been and always will be.

I for one have never found myself worrying about mining. It's one of the most elegant systems the world has ever seen. Shame about the centralisation though.
2491  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next Bitcoin Halving will drive the price down... on: December 29, 2019, 12:40:51 AM
The exact same thing was said about the previous one and no doubt the one before that. It will be said for every one in future until the block reward becomes a trickle.

Compare hash rates to the first one. I think we're just a little bit higher these days.
2492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another Bitcoin scampany got rekt! on: December 29, 2019, 12:20:52 AM
I remember some FIRE Youtuber interviewing one of the principals of this 2-3 years back as if it were some sort of legitimate income stream.

I shouted 'ponzi' in the comments and funnily enough the comment is no longer there on checking it. Ah well.
2493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Worsening Lebanese Crisis May Spark Bitcoin Adoption on: December 28, 2019, 03:26:20 PM
Yep. Just like Cyprus, Greece, Argentina and Venezuela.

Just like those places I'd say at least 50-55 people in Lebanon will buy some BTC.

Hang on to your motherfukkin hats.
2494  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Crypto Exchange with the smallest credit card fee on: December 28, 2019, 02:20:44 PM
Well, he did say credit card though.

They always say credit card and when they eventually go into more detail half the time it turns out to be a debit card.

In the UK at least and plenty of the US most banks won't let people make any crypto purchases with credit cards any more. OP had better check that too.
2495  Economy / Economics / Re: The ballast on: December 28, 2019, 02:08:36 PM
the strength of a common ideal that unites them.

And Bitcoin is quite possibly the purest expression of that in human history, far more so than any conventional society. No one is here because they were born into it or forced into it. They sought it out. It's entirely 100% voluntary. To have a community built totally on that basis makes it an order of magnitude more powerful and cohesive than where they came from.

If you're incapable of comprehending that then may the lord help you.

Do I feel any cohesion with the society I grew up in? Nope. They're mainly fuckwits.

2496  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Crypto Exchange with the smallest credit card fee on: December 28, 2019, 01:29:35 PM
OP should specifically confirm whether it's a credit card or a debit card as it's often treated as an interchangeable term here.

A credit card carries extra risk and will incur extra expense. Quite a few places will accept debit card transactions but won't service credit card ones.
2497  Other / Meta / Re: What effect would this forum vanishing have on your life? on: December 28, 2019, 12:38:32 PM
If the forum vanishes someday, my wife will feel happy for sure.

You didn't open her very own account here as a Christmas present? You could conduct your marriage on here. We could all make helpful contributions to your relationship.

Concerns about the sustainability of the forum may not only be felt by the OP, but quite a lot of other users are starting to feel the forum wont be there forever.

Its future does intrigue me. Does it become less relevant the bigger BTC gets and eventually fades away? Hardly anyone is a member of an Android forum but hundreds of millions use it for several hours a day. Or will its size increase the desire for people to gather to discuss it?
2498  Other / Meta / Re: Decreasing number of forum users on: December 28, 2019, 11:19:41 AM
Roger's forum sucks. I am not saying this because I hate bcash. I just like the gray background color in forums. It is not too bright, it is not too dark, it just perfect. No unnecessary features, no crap here. Simple. Just like bitcoin itself. Same philosophy.

I like this forum the way it is.

While the idea of someone switching forums entirely because the other one is 'better' on mobile is laughable, I can well believe this place is more trouble than it's worth for some. Soon enough if not already the majority of the world's internet users will be on phones.

This place is great on a computer. If I had to use it exclusively on a phone I'm not sure I could tolerate it for long.
2499  Other / Meta / Re: What effect would this forum vanishing have on your life? on: December 28, 2019, 11:03:47 AM
I'd join the one Theymos set up to replace it. Smiley

I've heard he lives in a hollowed out mountain where he shuffles around in Jesus robes lovingly tending to his servers rather like the bloke in Silent Running. One or two asteroids smacking into it and it might be good night.

It would be very interesting to see what the uptake would be for a mirror under a different domain. I wonder if people would be wary or a vast percentage would pile in without a second thought, or perhaps there'd be so many of them people wouldn't know which one to align themselves with.

https://www.france24.com/en/20191227-swiss-minister-says-facebook-s-libra-has-failed-in-current-form

Switzerland says no.

If its adopted home isn't having it, a place that's vastly more progressive in crypto legislation than most, then it's safe to say Libra has bared its fat, pasty rump and is now waiting for a fork to be stuck in it.
