2581  Economy / Exchanges / Re: LocalBitcoins is no longer available in Germany ? on: December 18, 2014, 01:47:14 AM
Seems it is the time to make TOR version of LocalBitcoins.
I don't think this would work very well. Whenever you trade with someone on a service like LBC, you are risking that the other party is some kind of attacker (potentially a government attacker seeking to discover the identity of people breaking their aml type laws)
2582  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Simple question of anonymity on: December 18, 2014, 01:44:34 AM
This is simply the techie in me but is it not possible to track all block chain transactions using forensics (NSA, CIA..etc)?

Even Darkcoin, Monero, Boolberry and the like make some type of digital footprint on the Internet that is trackable.

In my mind, l33t hackers will always be one small step ahead of the NSA and the NSA will always be miles ahead of the general populace.

I don't know enough about the governments abilities to know what the NSA can do and I don't think anyone else here does either. I know it's possible to parse the blockchain and get trails from it that most people wouldn't think possible.

I have a simple rule you can follow that makes this problem moot. Don't do anything on-line or buy anything on-line that you wouldn't show your mother and grandmother in church on Sunday Christmas morning. If you must buy drugs or some other illegal item please only use fully anonymous U.S. Dollars. For further security I suggest only purchasing items on a university campus where all items are readily available.
Snowden has given us a pretty good idea as to what the government is capable of doing (as of ~2 years ago based on technology that was available then), which is pretty much anything.

I would only assume that the technology available to the government is only going to increase over time
2583  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a 0.15 Loan - Repayment in a Week on: December 18, 2014, 01:38:13 AM
Are you potentially willing to put up your blockchain.info wallet and/or a box of Chinese Oranges up as collateral?

You also need to repay by 25 Dec +0:00 GMT
2584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When did you buy and why? on: December 18, 2014, 01:34:29 AM
I am curious to know how many people bought at sub $100 levels and still have the bitcoin they purchased at those levels.
2585  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [RESOLVED] Dangerous situation with unconfirmed transactions! on: December 18, 2014, 01:26:12 AM
Blockchain.info really does not use software in a sense that people have a choice which version they use (or even have any idea what version they are using). The majority (probably 99%+) of their users access their wallet service via their website and could really only use an "old" version if they are running it from the cashe in their browser.

In theory he could have used their software from github and host it locally, but I would kind of doubt he was doing this

They have an iOS app, an Android App, and a Chrome Plug-in in addition to their website.

If the website was used, then the fee would have been included.  Therefore, it seems clear that he was using one of their other other clients.
I think it is actually the opposite. When I use iOS, I am "forced" to pay a fee (I assume the same is true for their android app). When you use their website (and probably their chrome extension) you have the option of using their 'custom send' feature where you can set the exact amount of the fee you wish to include
2586  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SEGVEC CONNED ME OUT OF 14.09 BTC on: December 18, 2014, 01:17:30 AM
If I was going to scam, why would I continue to post?
Put the pieces of the puzzle together.

You will get the funds back.
What good does it do posting here if I was going to scam you? Think logically.

You still haven't answered my question about why you wont pay him back from your own funds. You stand to lose more from trading spreads based on your claimed volume then you would lose by repaying him for your partners mistake

I will answer you.
I did not make the error, my partner did.

Believe whatever you wish.
He will be repaid come February; not sure how many times I have to say this.

The wait sucks, I totally agree.
This is the bad part when it comes to being the man in the middle.

Again, I'm sorry for this but there is nothing I can do as of now.
If there was something I could do, I would do it...

This won't effect my trading.
I use bitcointalk because I like the forum and a few members here.
I found maybe two people who are an asset; both of which I am speaking with and are not phased by this.

You are 15; you should have told me.
I knew something was up with the way you would bug me...gut feeling is right a lot of the time.
Talk soon bud.
Who made this mistake does not matter. My point is that you stand to lose more money by making HBO2 wait two months, rather then covering your partner's mistake and being able to stay in business.

Your negative trust, and this issue is going to prevent the majority (IMO) of your customers to look somewhere else. If you had covered the loss (and potentially gotten reimbursed by your partner) then you would have earned more then the loss you are covering in the time it will take your partner to repay *your* debt
2587  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: when will all btc be mined? on: December 18, 2014, 01:08:05 AM
Let's keep things in perspective. In 10 years 95% of bitcoins will be mined. The rest will be spare change and less and less relevant to miners for the next 100 years.

Transaction fees will be the main incentive for miners.
Exactly. And this is the theory behind having the block subsidy decrease over time. The idea is that after a certain point, the total block reward will stay the same even when the block subsidy decreases

2589  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] (Staff Only) Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: December 18, 2014, 12:49:17 AM
It looks like the OP has not posted anything at all in roughly 3 days now. Maybe this means he is getting ready to release the new rules of this sig deal
2590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is only a means to get money into alts. Bitcoin fails. on: December 18, 2014, 12:47:16 AM
-proving the OP's individual statements/arguments wrong-
What you fail to mention is the fact that there is a very good reason why people need to buy bitcon in order to buy altcoins. There is simply not enough demand for altcoins for exchanges to support USD/shitcoin trading, as well as the fact that many more people are interested in trading bitcoin directly then trading any individual shitcoin
2591  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of claim (MtGox) on: December 18, 2014, 12:42:18 AM
A proof of claim is a legal document that provides evidence that you are owned a certain amount of money to an entity in bankruptcy.

The fact they are requiring their customers to submit such proof likely means that they will end up owing much less money then they really owe and customers who can follow this process will end up with more
2592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin market maker claims 10% US, 50% CA market, is this true? on: December 18, 2014, 12:38:09 AM
I am fairly certain this is not true.

Check blockchain.info/markets to get an idea as to what the largest exchanges have volume of. Then compare it to the stated volume of your site
2593  Economy / Speculation / Re: Time Inc. Deal Promises to Ratchet Up Firehose of Selling Pain for Bitcoin on: December 18, 2014, 12:32:50 AM
Why do you want the price of bitcoin to go up?

It's not only a matter of the price going up. It's a matter of correct balance, steady focus, and fundamental understanding.

Integration on the payroll side is probably more important than the POS side; yet all the focus is on the POS side. This means we're increasingly loading up the sell side with merchants who auto sell their BTC. Instead, we must encourage merchants to also offer BTC options to employees. Then businesses could funnel their bitcoin revenue back over into payroll, rather than dumping it on the market.

Basically, we must encourage balance - instead of promoting a system of merchants who become bitcoin dumping gremlins.
In order for this to happen we need to see more b2b transactions so businesses have more of a reason to hold more of their bitcoin. Businesses tend to keep very little fiat on hand and when they do they tend to keep it in the form they generally need to spend, so if they cannot spend their bitcoin then they have no reason to hold it
2594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia vs Cyprus financial crisis - Bitcoin not getting any boost this time on: December 18, 2014, 12:30:09 AM
I think we are too early in crisis for bitcoin to benefit like it did in cyprus. When bitcoin was spiking during the cyprus crisis the worse was already here and people were fearing the situation would get worse.

Now in Russia, we are really only in the beginning stages of a probably crisis. Russia still have hundreds of billion dollars worth of foreign currency reserves that it can use to intervene to help support it's economy and the ruble
2595  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Handing out bitcoin in New York (1000 bits/person) on: December 18, 2014, 12:27:42 AM
get a new sign.

"free bits of bitcoin" rather than "free bitcoin"

because its like saying dollar giveaway, or free dollar. then handing them 1cent..
When you talk about bitcoin without any specific amount, it generally means that you are discussing a unit of current, not that you are talking about "whole" amounts of bticoin (as in one bitcoin)
2596  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interview with johoe, the White Hat Hacker Who Returned 800+ Bitcoins. on: December 18, 2014, 12:25:26 AM
I am surprised that he is as honest as he is. Most people that are running these kinds of programs are far from honest and are doing so in hopes of stealing other people's money (usually from stealing brainwallets)
2597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The sad truth about Bitcoin on: December 18, 2014, 12:20:59 AM
As we can clearly see it has not been a good investment this year.  Rich people threw a lot of money at them as some sort of get even richer scheme.

2014 a Bad year for BTC investment for what specific reason? The 2014 Average is 3x higher than the 2013 average. The market price right now as it is dropping is still almost 2x above the 2013 average.
You are kidding right? All that matters to anyone that gets paid in bitcoin is the value of the bitcoin at the time they were paid and the value of bitcoin now (or when they exchanged it for fiat or goods if they have already done so). Someone that is trying to make a living is not going to care about any kind of average
2598  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoins -> USD, how to cheaply? on: December 18, 2014, 12:18:33 AM
if you are looking for the best rates and to have your money deposited directly into your bank account then you are going to want to use coinbase.

Circle tends to have wider spreads, and you don't want to deal with LBC as it is generally not good to give random strangers your bank account information
2599  Economy / Economics / Re: Russians move into bitcoin as ruble tanks (CNBC) on: December 18, 2014, 12:17:02 AM
It's a cold war propaganda piece. Russia Times promotes Bitcoins outside of Russia, most likely in the hopes that it catches on and hurts the dollar/euro.

CNBC tries to get Russians to switch to Bitcoins most likely in the hopes that it hurts the ruble.

Where is Yakov Smirnov when you need him?
The people of Russia need bitcoin to catch on in their country much more then the Russian government needs the Dollar to "fail"

The Ruble has fallen by ~50% this year while the dollar has held steady, plus even if bitcoin is successful over the long term it will probably only have marginal effects on the dollar
2600  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Google Authenticator , iOS update , bter on: December 18, 2014, 12:14:01 AM
I am pretty sure that icloud will backup your phone whenever you have it connected to power and wifi. You will need to restore your phone to a recent backup prior to when you upgraded to the newest version of iOS (and when google authenticator was still working)
