261  Economy / Goods / Re: George's Famous Baklava on: April 24, 2012, 11:41:35 AM
Thanks for the kind words! I've been selling baklava online for 2.5 years. I had a lot of people asking if I'd accept BTCs, and I finally got that all setup early this year. I'm glad I did!

Yes, I invented deep fried baklava after my friend & business partner suggested it. It's some pretty crazy stuff to eat, lol, so come to PorcFest and try some! We make a ton of other foods, like the trainwreck. That's a gyro where you get rid of the pita bread and replace it with a 10-piece bacon weave. We went through over 200 bacon weaves last year and ran out by Thursday! We'll need to do more prep work this year to handle the load. Tongue

Hey Mandrik,

I love hearing about you on Free Talk Live as well and hope to make it to Porcfest to try some of that yummy stuff.

You should also post yourself for free on our "Places that accept bitcoin" page at http://spendbitcoins.com/places.
262  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGOX - International Wire Transfer Has Not Arrived After 24 Days on: April 24, 2012, 10:31:54 AM
Hey all, just was wondering if any support team or people who experienced this can chime in. I have a verified mtgox account and I withdraw $10000 USD pretty often with no problems, I receive it on average in about 3 business days. It has now been 24 days and counting, I withdraw $10000 USD (max I can in one time), and it still hasnt arrived, I contacted the support but they just repeat them selves basically saying its the bank doing an investigation  and they are waiting to process it mentioning it takes about 2 weeks.... I also sent another $10000 USD again and of course hasnt arrived (i sent this about 5-6 days later thinking it was just going to be a normal delay for the previous 10k). I now have about $19000 USD in my account and I am looking for alternative options as I cant afford to wait so long...

If anyone can tell me there experience or opinions on what I can do (to wait or just use another alternative that is preferably low on fees), I would really appreciate it, thank you

You can do wires by sending bitcoins directly on Spend Bitcoins. We don't hold any funds at all ever. You send bitcoins, we convert same day. Wires take 1-2 business days to arrive in your bank account. Check out all the options at http://spendbitcoins.com/convert.

Jeremy, absolutely love your service. Its second to none. Unfortunately it costs a pretty penny for larger transactions. I'm doing things like paying for stock/paying wages/investing into the actual currency itself so it really starts to add up. If you had a fixed fee per month / ceilinged rate for individual transactions, that would help enormously.

Also for anyone else, just heard from a gentleman at Cryptoexchange who is going to assist me with my validation issues personally. I must say, that's great service and thank you.

Grey

Hi Grey,

I presume you're talking about buying bitcoins from us in Australia rather than converting from bitcoins as that is the only thing we charge any premium on whatsoever, and that's simply based on supply and demand. Unfortunately, as counter-intuitive as it sounds, the more you buy, the more it costs us, so we cannot offer any discounts. Sad

On the other, hand, for wire transfers out of bitcoins, the only charge is the $15 charge we pass on from our bank. Your bitcoins are converted to fiat currency at the current USD Mt Gox rate. Again, supply and demand: We need bitcoins more than we need dollars, so we charge no premiums whatsoever to spend/convert bitcoins.

EDIT: I should also mention that Aussies and Americans can get money into their bank account without even paying the wire fee as they can use AUD bank transfer (or even bill pay) and dwolla respectively. So--no trading fees and no (or very little in the case of dwolla) withdrawal fees. Yay!

Sorry man. Until the last person gets their money/btc, he's a scammer.

If she floats, she's a witch.
Haha +1 to that brother. I am glad I don't deal with other peoples money on a regular basis. Sheesh!

Yeah. I'm glad I don't hold funds too. Sounds messy.
265  Economy / Marketplace / What's up with Spend Bitcoins? on: April 23, 2012, 04:12:00 AM
Dear Bitcoin Spenders,

We've been up to a lot behind the scenes here at Spend Bitcoins, and we thought we'd let you in on some of it.

Firstly, you may have noticed an outage for several hours a few days ago. Sorry about that. It happened when we were migrating to a new server to finish off getting our ordering process automated so you don't have to wait up to twelve hours while I'm sleeping here in Australia. That is also a very important step in getting our spending tool out to the masses. It's nearing completion. I'm very excited about the ease this will add to bitcoin use!

Secondly, in case you haven't noticed, we've added a lot more options for cashing out your bitcoins. The most exciting of these is international wire. That's right, you can deposit bitcoins straight into your bank account at the current rate without driving the rate down & without paying any trade fees at all! You just pay the $15 our bank charges us to complete the wire.

We've also listened to customer requests and added the following convert options: fiverr, Apple, iTunes & ThinkGeek. If you'd like to make a request, just click "Submit a Place" at the top of the convert page and make your suggestion.

Lastly, we've added the ability on the convert page to add your bitcoin-accepting site as a premium listing on Spend Bitcoins' "Places that Accept Bitcoins" page. In case you're wondering, we've had 27,250 pageviews in the last 30 days. Just scroll down to "Premium Spend BTC Listing" on our convert page to see directions.

Thanks to your continued support, we're growing every day. Our first priority is getting the Spend Bitcoins tool out, but we have a lot more on the back burner just waiting to move to the front burner. Stay tuned!

Happy Spending,
Jeremy West

Accepting the following: Cheque, EU/US Bank Transfer, cash through mail, or investment opportunities.

I will use an escrow if I do not feel your trust ratings are sufficient.

Thanks
Robert.

I would like to buy them all by your method of choice at http://spendbitcoins.com/convert.

Cheers!

Has anyone else had this same issue? If so, please post here.

I'm unable to browse spendbitcoins.com with firefox, I get this error:
Code:
Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www.spendbitcoins.com.

Peer does not recognize and trust the CA that issued your certificate.

(Error code: ssl_error_unknown_ca_alert)
while I get an error of untrusted connection while trying to browse https://au.spendbitcoins.com/

Using chrome it's ok for https://spendbitcoins.com/ but I get the same error on the au site

Hi Dusty,

I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. We migrated to a new server yesterday in order to finalise as much automating of order fulfilment as we can and we are having some issues both with some ISPs not recognising the site as well as with some email servers rejecting our automated emails. We are working hard to resolve both issues but have had no problems actually receiving bitcoins and fulfilling orders. Hopefully all will be as normal (or better!) within the next few days.
My browser recognizes the cert as legit, but why the heck is the server asking me to identify myself with one of my own certificates?

Wow, that's a new one. I've got my tech guys looking at it now.

Has anyone else had this same issue? If so, please post here.
271  Economy / Goods / Re: Spend Bitcoins (worldwide) | Buy Bitcoins (Australia) on: April 19, 2012, 12:12:57 PM
may I suggest something?
your current website draws the user's attention to the new SpendBitcoin Tool.
when I click on it it says that it is in beta.

even though I used your website in the past, this new layout led me to believe
that your service is now unavailable, and will be unavailable until the new Tool
is publicly released.

I suggest you try to draw the attention of the user to the "want to spend bitcoins right now?"
part, and make the beta tool much smaller.

Thanks for the suggestion Thomas. I'm hoping it will be immaterial very soon as we are coming very close to public release of the tool (of course that's what I thought in February!). At any rate, the first priority is getting these kinks worked out. Once we do, we may look at changing the layout a bit in case it continues to take longer than we expect for release.

Oh, also, our subdomains are not working which is the problem with http://au.spendbitcoins.com. That's just a subdomain redirect. You can access the actual page at http://spendbitcoins.com/buy.

Thanks!
Jeremy

Rumors of our demise have been highly exaggerated.

Sorry about the unexpected outage. We migrated servers yesterday in order to test and then roll out automation, then our tool, then world domination. Smiley

As long as crypto currencies exist, we'll exist. Smiley

Hey Jeremy,

Hope i was not helping the rumor - was hoping it's an outage (which you just confirmed!) Thanks for being here !

Haha. Thirds was the closest thing to rumor that I've seen... But I was only joking. Smiley

That's weird. Never noticed that url. I just fixed it... https://www.spendbitcoins.com/convert/bitcoins-to-australian-bank-account/
277  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Best way to convert BC to AUD? on: April 14, 2012, 10:41:36 AM
even though it's not particularly cheap...

Hey! We give the exact USD-AUD exchange rate of the last trade on Mt. Gox with no fees. I'd say that's particularly cheap. But that's just me... Smiley
278  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Any "buy anything for BTC on the internet" services available? on: April 14, 2012, 10:24:23 AM
I know that SpendBitcoins once had the "Buy Anything" option where you can point to a URL and they will buy the product for you and charge you in BTC. Does anyone know if such a service still exists?

I'm still happy to do it for you as well. Just send an email to jeremyATspendbitcoins.com anytime for any special requests. The only reason we removed that option is that most people started just using paypal for this as it is still cheaper than what we were charging for the service and then you still have complete control over your order including tracking, returns, etc.

But again, I'm totally open to special requests and would happily add it back to the site if there is enough interest.

EDIT: We're also still looking for the best, cheapest, most reliable way to do reloadable debit cards (or even to be able to credit credit cards). We found a solution in Australia.

If anyone knows a good solution in the USA, please drop us a line.
