261  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: If Trezor's servers go down, what would happen to wallets w/ 25th password? on: April 03, 2021, 04:39:17 PM
HCP is right though. You should have done this with an entirely dummy wallet and dummy seed phrase, not just a new account on your main seed. Although your main account is still protected by its passphrase, by entering your 12 word seed phrase in to Wasabi you have exposed it to the internet and so it can no longer be considered safe. You have effectively reduced the security of your main account to whatever the security of the passphrase on that account is. Only you will know how secure or otherwise this is, but most people tend to use easily memorable and therefore easily guessed passphrases with far less than 128 bits of entropy (such as common words or phrases, names, addresses, etc.), and not truly random and secure passphrases such as &Lb_"z\wA^Dc]d8hL5+[.

If it were me, I would be moving everything on my Trezor to a new and secure seed phrase.

Mmmm, I see your (and HCP's) point.  I have some homework to do, too bad that I had my current seed nicely memorized, but, yes, security first.  Thank you both for the tip.
262  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: If Trezor's servers go down, what would happen to wallets w/ 25th password? on: April 02, 2021, 05:00:32 AM
EDIT: Install Trezor Suite to allow Trezor to work with bech32 addresses.  I did so (install and create a bech32), backed up the passphrase-protected Trezor wallet into Wasabi, and then made a transaction.  It worked just fine.  A great tool for just in case...
How exactly did you go about "backing up the passphrase-protected Trezor wallet into Wasabai"? Huh

If you entered your 12/24 words and passphrase directly into Wasabi... you need to move all your coins from your Trezor, then reset your Trezor and create a completely new 12/24 word seeds/passphrase combo and move you coins to that new wallet ASAP, as you have effectively removed all the safeguards of the Trezor by exposing the seed.

You should NEVER put your 12/24 words into anything other than your Trezor (or another hardware wallet)... unless you are attempting to recovery funds due to the device being stolen/lost/broken and you can't wait until you can get another hardware wallet to restore your wallet to.

I created a dummy account in Trezor (after setting up Trezor Suite) a bech32 ("bc1qxxx") address with a passphrase, and put a tiny amount of BTC into it.  Then:

1)  In Wasabi I clicked "Recover Wallet"
2)  Entered into Wasabi's "Password" the Trezor passphrase
3)  Entered into Wasabi the 12 seed words

Trezor wallet recovered, BTC balance there in the bech32 address (same one as in Trezor), and transferred it just fine

EDIT: I did not recover (in Wasabi) my main Trezor passphrase-protected account, which as you mention, defeats the purpose of the hardware wallet.  I just wanted to find a way to recover a passphrase-protected account just in case of loss, theft, or loss of function of my Trezor.
263  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: If Trezor's servers go down, what would happen to wallets w/ 25th password? on: March 30, 2021, 04:30:58 PM
Recover onto Wasabi using same 12 words (seed) as in my Trezor, then use same Trezor "passphrase" as my Wasabi password.

Does that work?
I haven't done it myself, but it should work just fine.

If you look at the Wasabi docs here - https://docs.wasabiwallet.io/FAQ/FAQ-UseWasabi.html#what-is-the-password-used-for - it says that the password you set on your Wasabi wallet is used as a passphrase as described in BIP39, which is exactly how Trezor uses the passphrase.

Also here - https://docs.wasabiwallet.io/using-wasabi/WalletRecovery.html#mnemonic-recovery-words-and-password - it says you can recover a wallet generated from any BIP39 software, again by inputting your seed phrase and then by inputting your passphrase as the password.

Why not create a dummy wallet on your Trezor and test it yourself?

Yes, in essence, that's what I did, but I first had to install Trezor Suite to be able to get Trezor and Wasabi to work together nicely (w/ bech32 addresses).

It did indeed work just fine.

O/T (but nice!)

Ahh, the good things one can learn here this forum...

I had wondered what might happen to my passphrase-protected ("13th Word") Trezor wallet were their servers ever to go down.  Turns out that Wasabi Wallet can back up Trezor wallets even when they use the "13th Word" (passphrase), which I did not know until kindly explained to me over there in the Wallets threads.

You have to jump through some hoops (install Trezor Suite which allows bech32 addresses (bc1q.....) so Wasabi & Trezor can exchange info), but it all works.  I set-up a dummy account, and it works.

Nice tool for backing up a Trezor if/when it comes to that.  Recommended!

So, when do we leave these boring $57,xxx numbers?
265  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Extra security for a Wasabi Wallet? on: March 30, 2021, 05:53:37 AM

Does that mean on Wasabi:  (exact same words as on Trezor) "Word1", "Word2", ... "Word 12", "password" (exact same "passphrase" as on Trezor) would generate my Trezor wallet on Wasabi?

IIUC, that would be a powerful tool for Wasabi.  That would mean that indeed I could have access to my Trezor wallet even if their server "goes away" and I do not want to mess with LINUX or Electrum, both beyond my scope.

Please pardon me asking questions that may be basic, but while I am a Bitcoin fan, there are MANY places in Bitcoinistan I have never visited.   Smiley

Please comment, and many thanks again.

Yes, Trezor and Wasabi use the same as BIP39 mnemonic seed, but in this case, wasabi used bech32 address, if you want to access it to trezor, don't use wallet.trezor.io because that for nested segwit (3). you will be confusing when get different address.

Use Trezor suite aplication to get the bech32 address.

Yes, that worked.  I installed Trezor Suite, set up a bech32 address, backed up the wallet in Wasabi, and made a transaction.

That's a really great to be able to back up a passphrase-protected Trezor wallet to Wasabi if necessary.

Many thanks!

Thank you all for your responses.  Many of your responses are "beyond my scope", so let me run an idea past you all that I got from my nearby thread on Wasabi wallets.

I now have on my Trezor: (BIP 39) "Word1", "Word2", ... "Word 12", "passphrase"  <--- OK, I'm good there.

I also have Wasabi, and perhaps I could do the below should I want to recover my Trezor wallet (if their servers go away, whatever):

Recover onto Wasabi using same 12 words (seed) as in my Trezor, then use same Trezor "passphrase" as my Wasabi password.

Does that work?  That would be one very nice application for Wasabi.  That also solves the disappearance issue of Trezor servers without me having to get LINUX, Electrum, Ian Coleman, etc. that I know very little about.

Thank you again for your assistance.

Thank you all very much for your explanations, I believe you have answered both of my questions:

1)  ("Wallet0") NAME can be re-used with a different seed, as long as I am OK with having the original Wallet0 empty of BTC, for example.

2)  Even if I have, say, a total of three "Wallet0" 's (two deleted, one active), all of that information STAYS on my hard disk, I am not about to monkey around BleachBit-ting...

The reason I originally asked those questions is I wanted to see if I could eliminate all of my transactions from my Wallet0's from view if someone got into my computer.  Looks like that info does not disappear, pity that.

Please let me know if I do misunderstand something (CMIIW -- had to look that up), thanks!

DroomieChikito and dkbit98 offered responses that make me want to ask something else.  In the Hardware Wallets thread I very recently asked about Trezor wallets, especially in conjunction with using the optional "13th Word" (passphrase) to better secure my funds.

DC and dk, I wonder if Wasabi can recover a Trezor wallet secured like that.  Here is what I "think" (?) you might be writing:

Trezor:  (BIP 39) "Word1", "Word2", ... "Word12", "passphrase"    (which I have on my Trezor device), and with luck then...:

Does that mean on Wasabi:  (exact same words as on Trezor) "Word1", "Word2", ... "Word 12", "password" (exact same "passphrase" as on Trezor) would generate my Trezor wallet on Wasabi?

IIUC, that would be a powerful tool for Wasabi.  That would mean that indeed I could have access to my Trezor wallet even if their server "goes away" and I do not want to mess with LINUX or Electrum, both beyond my scope.

268  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Extra security for a Wasabi Wallet? on: March 28, 2021, 10:23:30 PM
...

I have used the Wasabi Wallet, but cannot claim to be an expert user.  One thing has bothered me however about it from a privacy standpoint.

If you start off using the default wallet name "Wallet0", do various operations that might be of interest, and then sometime later send all of you BTC elsewhere (which I have done various times), and then click "Open Wallets Folder" (via the Wallet Manager), you get a folder with get a JSON file named "Wallet0".  If you then delete that Wallet0 file, then it disappears from the Wallet Manager (as I would expect).

I once went on to create a "Wallet1" to do other operations, and then deleted that in the same way.

Now if I should go and generate a new wallet, and call it "Wallet0" (for reasons...), will that give me a brand new wallet with a different list of seed words?  In other words, would this "new Wallet0" be completely different than the "old Wallet0"?

Bonus question: Would repeat naming, using and then deleting "Wallet0" actually REMOVE that info from a hard drive?
269  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / If Trezor's servers go down, what would happen to wallets w/ 25th password? on: March 28, 2021, 10:05:34 PM
...

Something I have wondered about for a while, but never got around to asking, is what would happen to wallets with a "13th Word"?

For example, I do not see how BTC could be recovered from a Trezor with the extra word via blockchain.com, Wasabi, BitPay or Ledger wallets (the only ones I am familiar with).  I have not downloaded or used Electrum or any other wallets.

For that matter, are there ANY hardware wallets that do not have to be used only with specific servers?  If not, that seems like an extra risk...
270  Economy / Speculation / Re: How far below $10k in 2021? on: March 25, 2021, 04:21:21 AM
By the end of 2021 I don't think many people will care that much about bitcoin. What's even worse is that you've got people who sincerely believe bitcoin could see prices of $50k and even $100k, which we know for a certainty will never happen. Luckily there's still time for sensible people to exit this market and save themselves.

How about you seek some help for your problems also? It's still time for this also!

These prices are just temporary randomness in the course of the ultimate down trend though. $50k clearly isn't sustainable.

As of this moment, not even $52,000 is tenable this week or even tonight ($51,908 as I write).

I have had a chance to start looking into the more relevant maths and science as we edge closer to confirmed and final conclusive proof:

-- Tensor Analysis (think 3-D and higher matrix operations)

-- Careful examination of Stochastic Random Variables and their relationships with Time Series Analysis  <--- important!

-- Algebraic Topology, also folds in with Time Series

-- Euler's Formula (e^{i\pi }+1=0) and related concepts of Analysis of Complex Numbers

-- some fields of Statistics, including ANOVA and Discriminant Analysis

-- Harmonic Functions

-- Abstract Algebra of Groups and Rings

Note that I cover just some of the basics of maths only.  The science is easier.

Actually, I was thinking about who Musk might be in the WO, and surely proudhon would be a decent candidate.

The general tone is in the right place, but does account age check out?

Proudhon's been around far too long to be Musk.

I can confirm. I am not Elon Musk.

proudhon is a Llama, not a Springbok.

Perhaps proudhon will give us some details on the upcoming Llama Price Movement, which could drop at any time.  I don't want to be anywhere close to that.
272  Economy / Economics / Re: "Looks as if #Bitcoin is eating #Gold". Good idea to buy some Gold now? on: March 19, 2021, 05:22:12 PM
This takes too many things for granted to be accurate. First of all, being on the gold standard just means the currency is backed by gold. If we "went back to the gold standard" that wouldn't mean you need gold to operate in the system since your currency would be redeemable for gold. Further, people without gold wouldn't simply die for a lot of different reasons.

I didn't want to mean that you die, literally. You'll die financially.

If gold becomes the main thing again, gold will shoot up and everything else will be worthless compared to it.

You'll want that gold backed currency but how are you gonna get it if your whole assets collapsed against gold and you have no gold?

Gold standard or not, owning some physical gold is just smart.  Diversification.

Owning some BTC is just smart too, BTC and Au have different "fundamentals" so each is good diversification.

In Peru, our main Korean supplier just raised bearing prices a hefty 8% across the board.

COVID has also hit Peru very hard.  They have a very high caseload rate, and a high death rate.  I know TWO people down there that have died of COVID.  Really horrible down there.

Confirmed.  Science and maths* prove BTC goes WAAAAY down.

Welp, vaccinated today guess I'll make through till the next one. Smiley

Ha ha, me too (Pfizer), not sure if they injected saline or something (completely inactive) as I did not feel anything, at least locally.
People who are vaccinated with virus vector vaccines at least report something, which may be indicative of a response (soreness, slight fever).
There is no way for me to check that they kept this stuff at -70oC. I might check for antibodies in 3-4 weeks.

Same here, barley felt it, super fine needle.

I think 18 days should be max effect timing.

Chug a bottle of gatorade after each shot. Apparently it makes the hangover minimal.

We had our first ones (Pfizer) on Friday.  Slight headache the rest of the day, shoulder was sore Fri and Sat.  Much better yesterday and today.

[snipped]

You get my drift... Wink

Next halving is in May 2024.
ATH is about 1 year after that. Eta may 2025.
Then a crash to 1/6th of it's price in 2026.
Build up to halving in 2028 and ATH in 2029.

So good vintages are
2013
2017
2021
2025
2029

Years in between are shit years...

Very instructive, good insights, thanks!

So BTFD in 2022 - 2024 (for those of us who are kinda slow...)  I sold in 2017 and 2021 (so far).  I'll buy later.

"It's all good"

Price going down yo!

Price will go up again as well....

But never above ATH as I confirmed.

It's important to note that the Llama Movement is always downwards.  Gravity.  Those movements can be spectacular, but whether they end with a thud or a splat depends on water, fiber and quinoa.

Hedge accordingly.  Preferably upwind.

I have no beef with support groups. As long as people get in check with reality and stop being territorial with 'funny internet electronic money' and start to thinking of BTCiTcoin as a limited ideological asset and while it gets denatured, degraded, saturated and infested with 'normies' that came to the table 5 years too late just because they invested some of their middle class monthly slave wage and are able to hold their ground now at the table.
