Yeah I'm spreading FUD when I posted a photo proving that staking is fucked.

This coin is going to die. The developer is not even active here. Just a few shillers left.

Staking is not "fucked", it is working as it should. Read more about general POS reward calculation here: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/crypto-intro-guide/wiki/Proof-of-Stake#how-much-reward-do-i-get

There are blocks generated at a target interval (60 seconds), and you receive a block reward according to your share in the network. So if you have 1/1000 of the network weight (0.1%, about 7000 coins maybe?), then you will receive roughly every 1000th block reward. You can do the calculation yourself.

This is resolved, the solution at this time being a rollback to the old site.  We had the newer site built and put on a test server with intention to have it become a primary thing but the monthly budget will not allow that kind of thing right now.  Monthly reports are currently delayed while we work out how to better streamline the project going forward.  A new blog regarding recent events should be out as soon as I can find time.  Thanks!

Thanks! That sounds interesting, good luck with that!

Remember that blockchains are a consensus within a group of people, so involving and building up the community is vital. The community can also give something back, by contributing code, money, knowledge, marketing ... Please include into your strategy a plan to involve the community, I would as a first step recommend to set up a Discord group, where someone of you guys will show up from time to time to get in touch with the community.

Wisp News

The current development state of the wallet implementing the fork has been put online: https://github.com/wispproject/wallet

We welcome any contributors who can check the recent commits for errors or would like to help finishing the fork implementation! You can make pull requests, which will be reviewed and merged by JBG. Contributors who continue to send in high quality commits over a period of time will receive the "Contributor" status on Discord and may be granted push access to the code repository.

what will happen to unclaimed coins? like, to those that will be on exchanges by the time of fork?
Sorry if this has been answered before.

If it ends up being a fork (at a certain snapshot) and you don't own the private keys of the coins in the wallet, then you don't get any forked coins, unless the exchange (or whoever) that owns the private keys decides to fork themselves and issues the forked coins for their users.

That's absolutely correct. To elaborate further, there is no way to "claim" coins in a fork, or to decide whether certain balances have been "claimed" or not. The old private keys stay valid, it's just a different continuation of the current XSPEC chain. So exchanges (as well as any other user running a wallet) might decide to start using the forked chain at any later point in time.

Thanks for the pre-ANN @Gandalf86. Will you announce the Official/Final fork date here? I'm not on Discord very often but do get email notifications from Bitcointalk threads  Smiley

Yes! I will make a new thread for the actual ANN, but it will be linked here when it's online.

Gandalf what community decided to make a fork? Do not tell a fairy tale. This was decided by Jbg and several people. The rest were not asked. What kind of community are you talking about. We were simply informed about this fact. Only a few people decided to make the fork.
I too old member community and i not saw no discussions about fork
Fork - this is a good reason to waste time, so as not to rub the job that he promised. They came up with a false story about supposedly different code and so on ... one intentional lie in your wisp team. You know the truth and deliberately lie. There is no stealth staking and you know about it, just like I know about it. Do not deceive new people.
jbg took much money from donations, but not gave results and refused to return money, as stealth staking didnt.

Sure there were a few individuals (HippiePyro, vvc, Trainasauruswrecks afaik) who decided to make a fork called Wisp, who were the initial members of the Wisp community. They invited jbg to join their project as things were getting out of hand between him and Mandica.

You can make as many conspiracy theories as you want, time will tell the results. This has already been discussed a thousand times.

Big shoutout for Espers in Bitcoin Garden Forum Newsletter (Issue #22, May 02)

Quote
ESPERS GIVEAWAY AND NEWS: Espers is a Blockchain project with goal of offering Websites on the Chain and Secured Messaging. You may want to have a look at their twitter feed, as they are running a cool giveaway that is ending May 07. In the meantime the team is working hard on the project. Web wallet and Android wallet have been released and all goals from Q1 have been met. Team is already working on Q2: people who aren't coders within the team are looking for some exchanges to list ESP, as well as just cleaning up things like Reddit and Github. POS 4.0 should be releasing in the near future and this aims to make staking more consistent for people with smaller amounts of ESP, but they'll still get 25% annually; it's just the stakes are far and few between but each stake will reward them with more ESP than the more frequent ones. Q2 means they will be working on X-Nodes, this is their solution to decentralized Master Nodes, you can read more on page 17 of their White Paper. Also they're changing the way secured messaging will be used on the blockchain in Q2 and finally Cross Chain.

If you're not subscribed, you can read it in the archives: https://bitcoingarden.org/forum/index.php?topic=35915.0

Thumbs up for this project. I love it.

Uhh, nice! It's amazing to be covered in the Bitcoin Garden newsletter. Thanks for sharing.

Did not do homework at XSPEC, now wants to continue receiving donations through WISP.

Wrong.

1. XSPEC/Wisp is not the "homework" of our developer, it's volunteer work. The fact that people donated money to him doesn't change that.
2. He did do work, all but the first wallet version are by him.
3. The fork was decided on by the Wisp community, not just by JBG.
4. The donation feature in the wallet is optional, to make it easier for you to donate. You don't have to use it.

The time of the fork is not fixed yet, first it has to be implemented. Then we will be testing it. Then a date will be set.

For questions regarding Wisp, please use the Wisp thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3371587.0

No worries cheers for explaining, when there's a wisp github I'll contribute to it too. You mind me asking what Linux system you're running it on without this issue? My guess is something OpenSSL related, even though I built 1.1 from source (as detailed in the build instructions I updated). It's probably missing some paths as 1.0 is my default. Knowing if you're on stretch/bionic or would be useful to look into it further to resolve.

I'm using Fedora. Uhm you should certainly not try to compile OpenSSL from scratch, unless you are tracking security issues daily and know which compiler flags to use. You should downgrade to an earlier version of the wallet that still uses OpenSSL 1.0 (which is Spectrecoin 1.3.5), and use the OpenSSL package provided by your package manager.

I wrote a guide for this earlier: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/spectre/wiki/Installation-Guides

If you want to use the staking donation feature you should additionally adjust the donation address manually to the one owned by Mandica.

With Wisp HFing in May why isn't there a functional website? https://wispproject.com/ does not appear to be.

We're currently figuring out the website thing. Technically a website isn't necessary to do a hardfork. If you are a web developer, feel free to join us!  Wink

Currently it seems like we will be using Github Pages + a custom domain to host the website, so that multiple contributors can work on it using Git.

would be handy if this ANN had an Upvote function like Reddit for excample -  Nice to move away from the negative commentary in the previous thread

I for one am looking forward to WISP carrying on in the spirit of decentralised democratic private crypto-currency

to that end I want to ask dev's what exchange listing parameters they have in mind?
exchanges to list on ?

Decentralized
https://idex.market/
https://ddex.io/
https://forkdelta.github.io/

Community exchange (no listing fee)
CoinPulse is the first crypto-currency exchange that is completely based around and supported by its community. Token holders will have a say in its majority of the decisions. Majority of the functions on CoinPulse have been included based on suggestions received from its community
https://coinpulse.io/ref/c32cbd498ac8fab30c04fe12b44a7a99
200 CPEX bonus for sign up which act like Binance Coin for 70% discount on trading fees

with this page we can propose listing and then upVOTE to show our support for it
https://request.coinpulse.io/suggestions/add
Please try to include as many details as possible.
Below is a list of suggested details:
General description of the project
Coin/Token's Website
Coin or Token?
Coin/Token Information
Listed on CMC? If yes, please provide link
Logo, if you have one
Social media channels

Generally, decentralized means for me that you download a program that you run on your PC, which then connects to other nodes to carry out functions via the network. Similar to Bitcoin and most other cryptocurrencies. The more appropriate term for this would be "distributed" or "p2p". I don't really see how these websites you linked are any more decentralized than other exchanges, except that you hold your own keypairs. Which of these sites require to set up an account? That may be an interesting criteria. If you have to register, it is probably not anonymous enough because the trades can be linked.

The only "decentralized" exchange (in the above sense) that I am aware of so far is Bisq, but the sites you named will certainly be discussed at some point. I don't think we have discussed this topic on Discord yet, the current priority is to make the fork happen, finally. Wink

Also some of the sites you linked are only for ERC20 tokens, which isn't the case for Wisp.

How can it be dependent on my laptop speed? I just said that I can run the wallet fine in a Windows environment (using WINE in Linux), but not built from source in Linux. The timeout is within seconds when in a Linux environment, but much longer from the Windows executable. As I referenced in the bug report on Github, I am able to run the wallet in Linux environment when I've extracted peers from the wineprefix. Care to elaborate?

Summary: There is nothing wrong with my laptop. I'm able to run the wallet in Linux without problems after bypassing the timeout issue.

Sorry, not sure. This isn't exactly great code: https://github.com/XSPECOfficial/spectre/blob/f20b8aeea822661a5ced22504bed41a8729afe0c/src/init.cpp#L777 It's probably a result of how Tor is interfaced. I have no idea how the hostname file gets updated, your best bet to get a detailed explanation for this would be JBG in the Wisp Discord.

As I said I'm also running the Linux wallet and never had this issue.
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: April 29, 2018, 05:05:53 PM
Great way to promote your project by slating your competitors... not. You realise a lot people hold both DO and XSPEC as well as SHIELD and others right? Some people are interested in tor-integrated privacy coins generally and prefer to diversify due to the risk of investing in small cap projects, like myself. So you're really not doing your project any favors here. If you haven't noticed DO members actually support other privacy coins and hold back from pathetic accusations without any evidence. And yeh, I hold ONIONS as well as XSPEC, ZER, ZEC, ZEN, PIVX and NAV, but continue insulting your supporters if you feel it works for you, even if you are sacrificing the reputation of spectrecoin by doing so. Best of luck with your marketing strategy anyway.

Sorry if I made the impression that I would be talking in the name of the project here. I'll have to refer to Mandica for that. What I said about DeepOnion is purely my personal opinion. And yes they are clearly better at marketing than me, by giving away free money they are getting tons of free baseless shilling by people who only care about the price of their coins. And most of the shills don't even notice their irrational bias. That is psychologically ingenious.

PS - Let me know when you've fixed the onion timeout issue in Linux. The workaround of using WINE to collect peers in order to connect is ridiculous. When Deb?

I'm using Linux and never had that issue. It depends on the speed of your PC actually, and is simply caused by a random process running vs. a timeout that is too short. You can fix the problem by restarting your wallet a few times until the random process has been faster.
276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: My wallet is not showing the correct balance on: April 28, 2018, 06:02:20 PM
Hi All,

I have been monitoring the progress of Spectrecoin for some time now. I invested back in December and kept all the coins in Cryptopia. I have in the last month transferred into my SpectreCoin Desktop Client. After returning after 2 weeks the balance has now disappeared even after sycning the wallet

Any ideas/help?

Probably the zero balance bug. It displays a zero as your balance even though it is not zero. This has been a problem for a long time unfortunately. Your best bet is to just ignore it, you can send and receive and stake as usual.

You can check your actual balance in the block explorer: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xspec/

I saw the Mac wallet is v. 1.3.8. What's the update of this version?
I cannot see the improve of the wallet yet.

From my understanding the build process for the Mac wallet has been improved to generate more stable binaries.

When upgrading wallets, do you create a backup; delete the old wallet version and then import the .dat file into the new wallet after upgrading?

Upgrading the software has nothing to do with your application data, they are in separate folders. You only have to touch the folder that contains the executable files to upgrade the wallet.

Hi octhuykim3299, please read the first post and the website to learn more about this project. The project is very undervalued, I'm not sure where cri79pop gets his hostility from.

Does anybody know where i have to put the old spectre folder on my mac if i want to migrate the chain and wallet details? I have a new mac and dont want to download the chain again. I copied the complete folder from my old one but dont have a clue what to do with it know

You have to copy the data directory: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/spectre/wiki/Overview#data-directory

The directory on the new Mac is the same as on the old Mac.

Will cryptopia support the fork and also list wisp too? If not, what other exchanges are you aiming for?

As said in the first post:

Further, our plan is that Wisp will be exclusively listed on decentralized exchanges (DEX) like Bisq (https://bisq.network/), as these are the only way to provide a truly private and decentralized ecosystem to our users. Making these DEX the only option will bring the necessary volume to these markets, and will hopefully also drive the general adoption of decentralized exchanges! Smiley

Cryptopia is not a decentralized exchange and I don't expect it to list Wisp after the fork. We're aiming for Bisq as our first exchange, since its philosophy aligns perfectly with that of Wisp.
