2601  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: All Metamask settings & Networks lost on: November 30, 2021, 06:52:15 PM
I installed Metamask extension on another device in my home and did the import using secret recovery phase to login and it asked to create a new password, why new password needed and why cant I use my previous old password?
Just to add on what @vv181 said, the objective of a recovery phrase is to be able to recover access to your addresses even if you lose all other details including device, password etc, you can also import it to a different software from the one you used to create it.

You can of course set your new password to be the same as the old one if you remember it, but it functions as a single step process to gain access to an addres, hence the phrase; "not your keys; not your coins".
2602  Other / Meta / Re: 'Bitcoin Discussion' down in search results on: November 29, 2021, 10:28:27 PM
As a side note... why take all the effort to set up a vpn and search from there? Don't private/incognito tabs provide the same level of... lack of previous search and patterns for this situation?
Private browsing does not function as a VPN and does. It doesn't offer the same level of privacy, so one cannot be used interchangeably with the other.
• Incognito mode means your browsing history is not stores on the browser and as such no one who picks up your phone or has access to your laptop can check what you were checking out while browsing privately, this becomes useful if you are not using an entirely private device,
It does not hide your IP address and does not disrupt the communication with your ISP.

• VPNs function to obfuscate your browsing history from virtually everyone (except maybe themselves as some have been said to keep user logs). Using a VPN, even your internet service provider can not access your browsing activities and your IP address cannot be ascertained, even by your browser.
2603  Other / Meta / Re: This board is not keeping up with current times on: November 29, 2021, 03:59:45 PM
with the probability of several innovations yet to come, this form of behaviour might result to a cloudy board.
This!
The forum cannot create a new board or sticky a new thread for every new trend that bumps into the crypto scene who's enthusiasts need some validation. There's a board currently for any discussion one may want to have related to cryptocurrencies and even much broader topics; this should serve for all the topics one may want to make, except a situation comes when one of such boards becomes so cluttered with a particular theme, showing it is a very salient topic at that time and needs a much broader space to accommodate discussions, then I think, would a proposal for a board be entertained.

Yes, I agree. Investing is much easier. But, in my experience, investing can also be more risky, depending on what is being invested in.
When you learn to trade, you sometimes make money and sometimes you lose (ok, you lose more often than you make money), but when you invest, you can easily lose everything if you choose the wrong asset.
When trading, you can much more easily lose everything if you do not know what you're doing and choose wrong trading patterns. With investing you have a job to do your research and select a currency with a track record or based on the fundamentals; this is much easier to assess than in trading where you are attempting to predict the future price movements.

Someone can easily pick any asset in the top ten by market cap to invest in, and their investment would hardly go to zero, or do that rapidly.
Trading is much different.
2605  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you guys think 0.1BTC is enough to "make it"? on: November 28, 2021, 07:12:36 PM
Do you think 0.1BTC will be like owning a mansion?
How long does the holder intend to hodl for?
1BTC a couple of years ago, was pretty valueless, but 12 or so years later it's worth enough to take someone some places up the social ladder. This could be the case for 0.1BTC in the coming years, but he/she would need to hold for long enough and be willing to take the risks involved.
If 1BTC becomes valued at $1 million, then one-tenth of it would be worth $100,000 and for many that's a life changing amount.

In another view, you shouldn't view Bitcoin solely as an investment, it's useful as a currency and utility is needed to drive growth and adoption.
2606  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Start In Crypto Without Investment on: November 28, 2021, 11:00:56 AM
I was introduced to steem by an acquaintance a couple of years back, but have since not been active on it anymore as I mostly do not have time to handle an account on it or maybe I do not have the bloggind skills to actually utilize an account.

Speaking of the topic title, it may not need any monetary investment, but you'll need to invest your time, knowledge and skills inorder to properly navigate those platforms, such skills applied to some other website could still result in earnings which one could use to buy Bitcoin; But being on a crypto inclined platform usually allows one interested in it to discuss freely.

As time goes by it may become a money maker but even then is is better to start with the small amount as possible and slowly become familiar with trading. Investing however is a whole other topic and needs to be tackled with much caution and homework.
In my experience trading is much more difficult and risky than investing. Newbies particularly shouldn't jump right into trading cryptos, they should instead start from the basics and find what area interests them.
2607  Other / Meta / Re: how improve rank?? on: November 28, 2021, 06:32:07 AM
Op already asked this question here and got a response but most likely didn't go back to the post and now they're asking the same question in their own thread which they most likely would not come back to, but return to the bounty spamming.

For some other low ranked member who may come across this thread, just put in an effort;
• Make an effort to research on what you post,
• Make an effort to read other replies before posting and to read the replies when you make a thread,
• Make an effort to search around the forum before making a post.
Someone reading your post can determine which was made with some effort and which is just chunked out.
2608  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi, new guy! on: November 28, 2021, 06:24:38 AM
Can anyone let me know where we can make some bitcoins around here or sell off stuff for some bitcoins? Let me know,
There is actually a dedicated sticky post about How to Earn Bitcoins. It contains basic information and links about the different ways to earn bitcoins, although some of them suggested are no longer profitable, such as faucets. The most common or reliable way is offering a service in exchange for Bitcoin or selling some goods on the forum.
You already have a skill, now you just need to market that.

you're actually better off doing some projects or gigs and use the money you've earned to buy bitcoin. Trust me,
Getting gigs through the forum can also be a means of getting paid directly in Bitcoin.
2609  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor or Ledger !! on: November 27, 2021, 01:48:00 PM
Which one is best to buy in 2021?
The choice of which to by is entirely up to your preference as the user as they are both good hardware wallets to use;

• Ledger is more user friendly and as such it would likely be the best option for someone who is trying out hardware wallets for the first time and also someone who is interested in diverse cryptocurrencies as it supports more altcoins,
• Trezor is completely open source as opposed to the former and this feature attracts some highly security conscious users,
• The price of both is also another factor someone could consider when choosing which to invest in, as well as the delivery options.

According to me, Long Holders usually prefer Trezor & ledger is preferred for everyday transactions.
If you're holding large amounts of Bitcoin, regardless of the duration you plan to hold for, it is wise to invest in a hardware wallet for more security.
2610  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How long do I need to wait between forum posts? on: November 27, 2021, 08:36:03 AM
Dose waiting time between forum posts means the time I will wait to make another post after making a post?
You do not need to change the color or the size of you text, doing that actually makes it difficult to read, imaging everyone wrote on the forum using different colours.
To answer your question, yes. "Post" on the forum also include other actions like searching, sending PM and replying, someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
2611  Other / Meta / Re: Airdrop Post Deleted. on: November 26, 2021, 03:30:29 PM
Now I know where is the reason.
In that case, you can lock this thread. The option to do so is at the bottom right corner of this page, should be just below this reply.
2612  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My crypto is stolen by CoinPark and they are not responding... What should I do? on: November 26, 2021, 09:37:15 AM
Anyways, that's why I hate crypto.. too much unstabilities and scam artists everywhere.. I will never get into crypto again...
Crypto or Bitcoin at least is actually very stable (in the project design and program) and there are scam artists everywhere on the internet, you could have easily have gotten scammed through this means using fiat.
If you ever change your mind on getting into cryptocurrencies, remember to do your own research. This is one of the most important rules; You are your own bank here and are responsible for all your actions, so research on everything, projects, wallets, exchanges et all.

• Do not trust, verify. There are scams as you said, so view everything as a scan until you can verify its authenticity.

• Not your keys, not your coins; you need to own the private keys of a wallet for it to be yours. If you store your funds on a custodian wallet, then they own it and can choose to block your access to it.

• Take your security serious.
2613  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My crypto is stolen by CoinPark and they are not responding... What should I do? on: November 26, 2021, 08:38:33 AM
I was just referred to this site, as bitcointalk.org deals with such issues I heard, can someone please help me to solve this problem? What actions can I take next??
Firstly, the forum does not deal with such issues, all you can get here is advice on what might help.
On what to do, if they are not responding in the private communication you may need to take it public, this involves finding their social media handles and engaging them publicly. You can also check for the LinkedIn profiles of the founders and call then out there. I've personally not heard of this exchange and it's probably not a reputable one, but you are banking on the hope that thier image means more to them that the amount stolen.
All these would only matter if it's just one member of the staff trying to screw you over. If it's the whole company and they are going for an exit scam, it is unlikely they would even respond to public call outs. In this case, there is little you can do as cryptocurrencies are vastly unregulated, you can try seeking legal advice however.

There's a big possibility the entry you saw in you wallet were just figures and the ETH has been moved a long time ago.

If I posted to wrong thread, please forward it to appropriate ones.
The Scam accusation board would be more appropriate.
But here is also not a bad place to post this, as you mostly need advice on what to do and it would also help newbies reading this;
• Not your keys; not your coins,
• Avoid online wallets,
• Exchanges do not double as wallets, move your funds to a secure non custodian wallet for storage.
2614  Other / Off-topic / Re: Some advice about LTD in uk on: November 26, 2021, 05:23:45 AM
You would need to confirm the laws on registering a company in UK and operating from another. Usually one can do this, but it varies to some factors and also with different countries and one might be required to have a physical presence in some situations.
Also, what's the domain name on the URL? If it has a .uk, then it could be a limitation to your company going global even though it can function from different parts of the world. You may want to use a more globalized web suffix

I want to make a betting web
Seem professional advice. Starting a business is a bug step and it goes beyond asking a question on a forum.
2615  Other / Meta / Re: META - I have question on: November 26, 2021, 05:05:16 AM
3. Are most of them (number 2) have a steady income from this forum? even if it's just a discussion/sharing of information about bitcoin, even without using a code signature?
I doubt the members who do not wear a signature (even though they can walk into some of the top campaigns) have other means of income from the forum. Such members usually love to post naturally, having a signature or avatar or personal text means you can advertise for a platform while posting as you like. If you didn't have a sign enabled, you'll literally need to mention the project you're advertising for, for your posts to be any good to them.

4. Are there any special requirements? suppose my account is new and want to offer some kind of service, items (related to bitcoin) in this forum?
No there's no special rules for newer accounts, Just;
• Make sure you do not spam,
• Post in the appropriate board,
• Do not bump quicker than 24 hours and delete old bumps.
Ethical rule: Do not scam.

Are there any written prohibitions on this forum? If I want to encourage people in my country to join this forum and learn about bitcoin?
I don't think there's a any post directly aimed at encouraging people to join the forum.. The repository of information available and wealth of knowledge being shared should be enough incentive.
You can search up really good posts in various sectors and use that to show what the rest of the forum offers. Remind them there are lots of spam too though, so they know what to expect and can build a mental filter.
2616  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's up with the flaunting of irreversibility? on: November 25, 2021, 08:56:48 PM
How can I, as a customer, be protected my malicious sellers? I can't really use an escrow service every time, I need to ensure the seller will be discourage to steal my money with a smarter, cheaper and more comfortable way. For instance, PayPal transactions are reversible within a time frame of 6 months. I could address them.
That's the reality of a decentralized system, you do not pick and choose the part of it that you deal with.
With fiat systems, your finances are regulated, this does not mean you cannot be scammed, even the banks can screw you over. But there's a centralized system that exists and this gives an extra layer of options.

With Bitcoin, you do not have that, and are fully responsible for your transactions and everything else related to it. You make the decision to use an escrow and can make the decision not to and take the risk. It's just you and the other party with no third wheel.
2617  Other / Meta / Re: This board is not keeping up with current times on: November 25, 2021, 06:32:40 PM
<snip>
It's not even about a bias to Bitcoin, the forum generally does not get updated often with the changing times, new Bitcoin related projects like lightening network is yet to get a separate board for discussions, much less a hype project built on fomo. For a certain project or trend to get a separate board on the forum, it seems like it needs to have so much discussions that if is clumping the more general board it is being posted on.

Trends come and go, but Bitcoin doesn't change much, so does bitcointalk.
2618  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How far can we talk about that specific topic? (Topic not updated) on: November 25, 2021, 04:05:53 PM
I created this thread because as I saw here in Forum that newbies/older user bump old Threads  so that they can reply, without knowing that thread is created long time ago.
Except they somehow missed a big ass warning that the thread has not been posted in for the last 120 days, they probably know how old the thread is and that it's not very active anymore.
Users could still bump threads after a long time of no activity if the discussion is still relevant or very necessary at the present time and more users should get to read it. They could also bump in because it is related to something they are interested in and wouldn't want to make a new topic when there is an existing discussion.

Users can also bump oldish threads created by them, sometimes in the hope to get (more) merits for them, but more commonly it is done so the message reaches a wider, newer audience.

If you do come across an bump you feel is not relevant, you can always report that to the mods for them to take action.
2619  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to identify some scam websites. on: November 25, 2021, 10:00:53 AM
-  Imposter Websites - If theres isnt a small lock icon indicating security near the URL bar and no "https" in the site adress think twice.
Even if there is a small lock icon still think twice as that symbol does not guarantee security or the legitimacy of the website, it rather shows that messages to and from the website is encrypted, but you can still be on a phishing site. In general, never feel safe when on the internet, and view every offer as a scam until proven otherwise.
2620  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some Tips To Stop Feeling Overwhelmed In Crypto on: November 24, 2021, 10:16:28 AM
Quite so but you can still give chance to other cryptos which has low chance to disappear and yet having more upside than bitcoin,
Of course you can give chance to other cryptocurrencies but you have to accept that the risks gets considerable higher with coins lower in the rankings and there is no fool proof template to choosing an asset to invest in.
Also, how do you determine currencies which has more upside than Bitcoin?

ethereum with it's deflationary mechanism.
The deflationary mechanism in Bitcoin as I understand it is due to its finite supply which means there can be no supply shock and the supply gradually thins out in production. Ethereum is not exactly designed that way.
