Good morning Bitcoinland. Missed yesterday due to being hung over from far too much tequila with far too little agua purificada. I tried to behave myself but was overcome by cabin (hotel room) fever and went out for some live music. Unfortunately the gang at the bar remembered me from January and started buying me shots.

We seem to be recovering quite nicely from the dip a few days ago... currently $8840USD/$11560CAD (Bitcoinaverage). Maybe we'll be back in 5 digits by the end of the week.
____

Thanks to all the well-wishers who posted support for my convalescence. Things seem to be progressing as they should.

The worst part is that I so want to sink my teeth into a juicy steak. Trouble is, I've got no teeth to sink in.  Sad

No regrets. I'm spending my bitcoins on something worthwhile. At least I procrastinated long enough on my dental work to afford top-of-the-line implants. Too bad I have to wait another year to get the job finished. Hopefully by the time I need to pay for the zirconia, I'll only need to spend a fraction of a coin.

Go Bitcoin go.

Well good afternoon Bitcoinland. Just got online after successful surgery Friday.

I see I missed some excitement while I was away... big dip and big recovery... currently $8172USD/$10700CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

It's pretty much back to where it was before I went in. Woke up and decided to fire up the laptop just in time to catch the end of the rally.

I guess my bladder alarm still works.   Cool

Nothing to do now but relax in the Mexican sun and convalesce until I get my sutures removed on Thursday. I can't fly for at least a couple more weeks but at least I can head out to the jungle later this week.

I'm currently toothless with very fragile gums after bone grafts to my jaws. Needless to say, I'm on a totally liquid diet. Ever have pork tacos pureed in a blender? Delicious!

Good morning Bitcoinland from sunny Playa del Carmen. 5 days here including surgery tomorrow before heading out to the jungle. Left Toronto in a blizzard. They were spraying deicer on the wings while we were taxiing into position for takeoff, Gorgeous weather here though.

Missed yesterday's dip due to travel (Google ad ban FFS?) but woke up to see partial recovery. Go make a coffee and take a shower and it's gone back down some more... currently $8104SD/$10565CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Hopefully this ridiculous panic will be forgotten soon. The irony is that I received a few grand extra revenues just before leaving. Unfortunately there's no Bitcoin infrastructure here in Quintana Roo so I can't jump on this buying opportunity.

I couldn't have brought any more cash anyhow. The most they'll let you carry is $10kUSD. Oh well. I'd be glad to just see 5 digits by the time I go back.
2745  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 13, 2018, 04:35:21 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still going sideways... currently $9032USD/$11670CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Yawn.

It's still too damn cold to use the pool.

At least there is no snow here.

So that's nice.

It snowed in Toronto last might. Looked like a Xmas card.

This time tomorrow I'll be back in Mexico. Hopefully there'll be no snow there.

Please tell us you paid directly in bitcoin!

About half and half, the rest in cash.

Does the electricity stay on all day?

Usually. If there's an outage it could take days to fix though. The great thing is that bring on Mayan land it's heavily subsidized. A typical bill is $15CAD every 2 months.

Mind you, that's for about 15 amp service, you can run one coffee maker or other heat source and open the fridge door without popping a breaker, but barely. The service from the pole is lamp wire in a garden hose. Welcome to rural Mexico. I'm planning on upgrading.

The water that comes from town via a surface pipe beside the road only happens a couple of times a day. It's partially treated, good enough for laundry, dishwashing and showering. A truck delivers 5 gallon jugs of agua purificada daily.

To maintain a steady supply of water, people keep storage tanks with overflow valves like on toilet tanks. My tank is above the shower and also feeds the kitchen "sink" and washer/spindryer.

Hey Jim - you hanging at Popol Vuh's place? Loved what they did for Aguirre, Wrath of God. The music they did for the opening scene climbing up through the misty jungle... in my top 10 of cinematic moments

edit: incredibly the film is on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8u2tooYxicE
I suppose Werner doesn't need no stinkin' royalties nomore

You made me Google Popul Vuh.

I never heard of the band nor the movie. Seems Popul Vuh is the Mayan book of creation.

That photo was taken in the village near my land, in the heart of Mayan country. It's actually on Mayan land.

This is how I was able to buy it. Mexican law requires 100 years of family residency to own land. Being on Mayan land, my purchase was strictly between me, the former owner, the Mayans and the blockchain.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

I see the weekend rally is over... currently $9283USD/$11904CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Was it perhaps because the Gox bankruptcy dump was put on hold for the weekend?

Hope I don't need any emergency cash. I hate to sell any time. I'd especially hate to have to sell now with the price so low.

Just look for the guy with the black tape for eyeballs. Smiley

I know how it is. Sometimes you get so "tired" you've gotta hide behind black tape and drown your sorrows. Mmmm, Cerveza Sol.

You can spot me 'cause I'm the guy with the black tape and the BTC ballcap.

You can also see why I need dental work.  Roll Eyes

I guess my top notch OpSec has a few holes.

Discretion is the better part of valor.  Cool

The black tape across the eyes was an especially nice touch. I'm Kingston now, incidentally. Never did find a place in Kensington. Glad you had your blast in Mexico, my friend.

Thanks. Spent most of January there. Going back down for another few weeks on Wednesday to get the preliminary work done on my new teeth.

Bought myself a pied-a-terre in the jungle. Nothing as grandiose as Risto's castle but you don't need to lock your door. The people there are so poor, honest and hospitable they put Newfies to shame. There's no crime there. Since there's neither tourists nor money there, there's no reason for the cartels or other criminals to go there.

Gotta go stand under a 1000-year-old tree to get a cellphone signal but there's internet access. Some dude in the nearby village has a satellite dish and has put together a network going from homestead to homestead via transponders mounted on tall bamboo poles. He charges reasonable rates (dirt cheap) but the service is like anything else in rural Mexico, sketchy and intermittent.

I have a sister and a few friends in Kingston. Maybe when I get back I'll hop a train out there and we can have a couple of cold ones together. I love train travel.

I feel like I'm stuck here until I get 9 more merits.

There ya go. Now you only need 8 more.

Don't take that as wanting you gone. I find your posts entertaining.

Think of it as kinda like a sympathy fuck.   Grin

Edit: I tried to post this as soon as I sent the merit. For some reason the forum choked on it.

Just did my very first electronic funds transfer out of Quadriga. 10 business days. That's legacy finance, folks.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Too bad you don't live in the 6ix like this guy:

No need to wait for annoying legacy banksters. Receiving cash is fast, cheaper, and anonymous.

According to CoinATMRadar there are 157 BTC ATMs in town. Some have very competitive rates.

At least Bitcoin trading doesn't give you increased flatulence, nausea and intestinal cramping (unless you just lost $1 million).

Perspective: Apologies in advance if this comes off as a brag-post, but fuck losing $1M. Your entire perspective changes when you see your portfolio swing $10M in the matter of a couple days.

Learn how to ride those waves for few years of HODLing and <insert Mr Bean on Rollercoaster.gif>

All I can do is sit back and either laugh or shrug. (Please keep in mind my entire stash at this point is "house money", so perhaps my perspective is atypical)

If Bitcoin trading is a serious cause of, no-bullshit real life stress like stomach cramps and other anxiety symptoms, then perhaps that is a sign you may be a bit over exposed.

Nevermind your physical health. That's just fundamentally not financially healthly.

No kidding. Life's too short to stress yourself out over something like money.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still bouncing along in the $9k range I see... currently $9200USD/$11783CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Ho hum.

How long did the withdrawal symptoms last, and how bad were they?

I was pretty angry and irritable for a solid 6-8 weeks before I started chilling out.

I guess I'm lucky. I quit a 2-pack-a-day habit 33 years ago almost by accident.

I caught such a nasty cold/flu/pneumonia I was in bed for 3 days barely getting up to re-hydrate myself and go to the can.

When my fever broke and my mind cleared, I realized I hadn't had a smoke in 3 days. I didn't need to quit. I just needed to not start smoking again.

Quitting is not an action. Smoking is. All you need to do to quit is to not do anything. To smoke you need to acquire tobacco and fire, light the cigarette and inhale. Unless you're actively smoking, you've already quit. Just don't start again.

I suffered no withdrawal symptoms. Maybe I had them when I was in my feverish delirium and wasn't aware of them.

I also didn't suck out like a whiny little crybaby and totally avoid tobacco smoke. I continued to mix a little tobacco in the occasional hash doob. I chose to sit in the smoking sections of smoking-segregated restaurants and in the smoking cars of trains.

I found that non-smoking sections were full of anti-smoking fussbudgets and I find secondhand stress far more offensive than secondhand smoke. The smoking sections generally have a higher caliber of people. I also found that people take their annoying brats to the non-smoking areas.

Quitting is easy. Just don't smoke.

My math is trash, so the Bitcoin white paper made no sense, but I still tried to mine a few coins, without success. I didn’t like wasting my Mac’s central processing unit cycles on folly, so I shrugged the whole thing off.

LOL Mac? As in Apple Macintosh? The guy's obviously a clueless luddite.

Perhaps he should stick to writing. Maybe there's a tabloid hiring somewhere.

Now that I’m poor, I wish I hadn’t told all those clients to go **** themselves in December.

Actually, I don’t. It felt kinda good.  Grin

C’mon Bitcoin! Man up so I can do it to a few more!

That's one great thing about self-employment.

If you're employed and your boss is an a-hole, you have 2 choices, putting up with it or being unemployed.

If you're self-employed and some of your clients are a-holes, you can tell them to f off and still have your good clients.

It serves as a sort of client quality assurance program. Not only do you weed out the a-holes from your clientele, your other clients will probably be happier and more loyal because they probably hate the a-holes too.
