I see that you hold classic Gordon's London Dry gin in almost as low esteem as I hold trendy Bombay Sapphire. There's a big difference between the two though.

In my opinion, Sapphire tastes like any other over-infused modern martini-oriented gin but without the sublety of Hendrick's or even Tanqueray. Gordon's on the other hand is not a martini gin. Its robust straight-up juniper flavor is unparalleled for mixing with tonic water. Even their  advertising recognizes this:


Whatever. Booze is intended for enjoyment, not debate. You enjoy your Sapphire. I'll enjoy may Orbium martinis and Gordon's & Schwepp's.

Nasty little dip (only nasty because I can't buy it) last night... currently $6268USD/$8793CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

I've only got a little less than 3BTC accessible to me here and they have to last me until this Covid-19 thing blows over. I'd rather they were worth more at this time, instead of less. Oh well. They're mainly for sending to friends and family in Canada to keep my bills paid and take care of emergencies.

I have lots of gin. I could also use some good full-flavored tequila for making margaritas. All I have left is the prissy "subtly-flavored" stuff you drink out of a shot glass.

Edit: ...also some real Cointreau for the margaritas please. All I have left is a cheap knock-off called "Controy" in a lookalike square bottle, and some other triple sec. I won't even mention the blue Curacao.

Down to my last 3 Tecates in the fridge. Hoping to find a back door somewhere in town but it's a long shot. Most proprietors will want to keep what they might have left for themselves. Everyone has a price though. Luckily I have a fairly well-stocked bar so it's not like I'm gonna go completely thirsty. During a heat wave (36c/97f) like we're having now I'd rather have a frosty cold cerveza than hard liquor though.

I'm also down to my last bottle of merlot and that won't last more than a few dinners even if I ration it down to a glass a meal. Luckily the girl only has a sip of mine.

Here I thought we were avoiding most of the Covid-19 crap. This one hurts. I guess I can't complain though as long as we're free of the actual virus.

I've tried to avoid the debate on how to treat gin. I enjoy it with Schwepp's and a twist as well as with Dolin's and an olive and a few drops of the brine.

But Bombay Sapphire for gawd's sake? Isn't that something they use for stripping paint? It's barely better than Beefeater or Gilbey's.

To rank it above Tanqueray is a sacrilege and Tanqueray is just middle-of -the-road. I prefer Hendrick's (especially Orbium) for a more subtle, refined taste and Gordon's for full-on honest juniper goodness.

I'll take a pass on that novelty bluebottle beginner's crap, thank you.

That said, I do have a half a bottle of it in my bar here and gin's not usually available out here in the jungle. I don't want to go anywhere near a city or tourist destination until this Covid-19 crap blows over so I may be forced to use it if I run out of Orbium, Hendrick's, Gordon's and Tanqeray.

Got lots of Dolin's, Noilly Prat and Martini&Rossi though. Olives aren't a problem. High-quality jumbo stuffed manzanilla olives might take a trip to a city though.

Out here I don't think they've ever heard of quinine water. Pity. During a stifling heat wave like we're experiencing now, a well-iced Gordon's and Schwepp's would really hit the spot.

I don't think the drop was caused by covid-19 per se.

I think it was mostly a result of the crash of the stock markets worldwide. As stock markets fell many sold off other assets, especially by those with margins who were in danger of being called.

The rest was mostly panic at Bitcoin's price drop itself. Gamblers/traders sold while long-term  investors held firm.

Sure enough, while the stock markets have made only modest recovery, Bitcoin has recovered more than half of what it lost in the panic.
