2761  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: A strange noise coming from my power supply on: April 10, 2022, 03:40:15 AM
Like others said above. It’s most likely coil whine and this is so common that if you want a warranty claim they might deny it and says it’s completely normal.

This is more of an annoyance if anything else. I remember my first gaming rig, it was very quiet. Until I started gaming and the most annoying whine you can hear. Basically had to use headphones to not hear it. Some PSUs have this and some don’t. No idea what the culprit is.

I found that for some reason the cheaper PSU didn’t have coil whine while the more expensive ones did, very odd.
2762  Economy / Economics / Re: WTF? Food prices expected to raise up to 50% in German supermarket. on: April 10, 2022, 03:34:10 AM
I didn’t read this entire thread so I don’t know if someone above me commented on the German 50% food hike however on Twitter they basically said it’s click bait mostly.

Most items went up by 10-20% and the food is still cheaper there than rest of Europe. There was maybe an item or two which increases by 50% however it’s not every single item.

This is nothing new. Wherever you are in the world we all know that groceries went up by maybe 20-30 % in the last few months. Hopefully it doesn’t get any worse than it is right now.
2763  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin rises, Ethereum biggest gainer on: April 10, 2022, 03:14:36 AM
Ethereum in general always moves in higher percentages than Bitcoin. Also keep in mind it’s market cap is smaller so easier to move.

Right now all eyes are on the Luna buys and whenever he makes any transfers people try and front run the orders. He still has lots to buy so I am pretty sure we will make another attempt at $50K however the issue is will it hold when everybody knows he is done purchasing. Right now the bears are on stand by.
2764  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Parting out my mining rigs - EBAY potential problems on: April 09, 2022, 03:25:45 AM
I had issues with eBay also with mining equipment. Usually it was when selling something high priced and during periods of high profitability.

I don’t think profits are crazy high right now and the RX 480 is not an expensive GPU so you might not get any issues. Just clean the fans and run benchmarks and make sure it passes. Also connect a monitor to all the outputs. Because some of the outputs might not have a display. When doing a benchmark make sure you are watching the demo because on some bad GPUs you will see artifacts.

Sell a few and see how it goes. You might not run into issues. But it’s best to sell stuff like this on Craigslist’s if you got time.
2765  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I repair a power supply on: April 09, 2022, 03:21:08 AM
The only part you can safety repair of a PSU is the fan. You can open it up and you will see it’s a regular case fan. Buy the exact same one. Since it’s PWM you need to make sure it’s a similar model since the PSU will control the fan speed. If you can’t get the same fan just hook up the +12V and GND pins and it’ll run at full speed. Since it’s a case fan they aren’t that loud.

I wouldn’t try and repair it. Usually it’s something burnt or something exploded like a capacitor. You will most likely hurt yourself because you won’t discharge it and you will shock yourself since those big capacitors can store charge for a very long time. Just get a new PSU.
2766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What's up with founders editing graphics cards on: April 09, 2022, 03:17:05 AM
Remember those dual GPUs that AMD used to build for certain chipsets. Back when Radeon 6950/6970 was the high end selling GPU they released an Radeon 6990. This was basically a dual 6950 chipset GPU.

Later they did the same for the Radeon 7970 and released an dual Tahiti Radeon 7990. And a year or two later released a special addition Radeon R9x295 which is basically two r9 290 Hawaii chipsets on one board.

These are rare and will be collectibles soon.
2767  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation hitting a 25yr old record | Predictions for the future on: April 09, 2022, 03:11:35 AM
Yes and this is why many markets like crypto are struggling to make new ATHs and many medium type of stocks. Inflation is very high and central banks need to control it by raising rates. They need to raise rates so there is less demand for goods and in return the prices will go down.

One example of this is to suppress the prices of real estate. They will weed out many buyers because payments will be higher and as a result they will make prices stop rising and maybe drop in certain markets.
2768  Economy / Economics / Re: Lets be honest sanctions and all others problems on: April 09, 2022, 03:08:25 AM
Printing money should of been a temporarily thing. When there was evidence that covid is not as deadly as it seems and that a vaccine was out the money printing should of ended.

Right now there is no stimulus but many places are getting stimulus checks to offset the increase in fuel prices. So it’s basically creating more inflation as a result. And people who drive electric cars are also getting this stimulus which doesn’t make sense since they don’t pay for gas anyways.

Hence why inflation is still not done peaking.
2769  Economy / Speculation / Re: A Little Surprised! on: April 09, 2022, 03:04:28 AM
I think the reason why it didn’t is because there is too much economical and geopolitical Issues at the moment. We got a war going on. Gas prices are at highs. We got horrible inflation and due to that we got maybe 8 or so rate increases this year. Fed has no choice but to increase interest rates.

Rising rates is not good for stocks and right now crypto follows stocks pretty closely especially the nasdaq index. So many people are on the side lines until this boils over. Another issue is the inverted yields which usually signal a recession. So people are going into risk-off mode.
2770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Will hotspot still works for the time being. on: April 07, 2022, 03:26:42 AM
Last time I tried which was years ago, it was a pain to use mobile tethering with mining. Basically it ran 30 minutes and then the connection died. No matter how close the iPhone was to the window, it would cut it connection. It was extremely choppy.

The issue also was that when mining stopped so did the hashing and all the stop and start made the GPUs crash for some reason.

So it’s possible however keep in mind it won’t be reliable.
2771  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Legit cloud mining? on: April 07, 2022, 03:22:18 AM
The cloud mining company weren’t really scams it’s just that their terms weren’t in any way fair and you can call them unethical.

They were more geared towards new comers because they used term like “10Thash mining Forever ….” Or “5Th/s of Bitcoin mining never expires” etc.

However if you read the terms there was a maintainance cost which was always deduced from the profits and eventually the cost to run the miner was higher than the profits and those contracts were voided.

People assumed that if they pay $500 and make $5 a day forever that it’s a great deal, because it sounds like it is but most don’t read the terms correctly or understand how mining actually works.
2772  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Old motherboard not detecting new GPU on: April 05, 2022, 02:37:02 AM
I had this issue in the past with really old motherboards and new GPUs. No idea why however if it doesn’t work you will need to get another motherboard.

Back then lots of GPUs used the PCIe 1.0 standard and it should be backwards compatible on most GPUs however some GPUs just don’t work at all. It’s hit or miss. You need to basically put it in and try it.

Mine issue was that as soon as I powered up the rig, the fans ran at 100% and that was pretty much it. No amount of changing settings in bios did anything.
2773  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin and It's Events on: April 05, 2022, 02:32:35 AM
The 200 MA in the chart is the 200 WMA which is the weekly moving average. As you can see it bounced perfectly every time it touched. However it’s a line chart and if you switch to a candlestick chart you will see that it dipped below it however it never closed below it.

Currently it’s like $20K. So in a few months it might be at $25K and if Bitcoin breaks that $28K we made in the Summer then I can see the 200 WMA having many buyers lined up.

I don’t think it will close below it.
2774  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will bitcoin reach its all-time high? on: April 05, 2022, 02:27:44 AM
Since we made a lower low on the daily chart and broke the strong resistance area at $44K. I can see us attempting to make another ATH soon. As long as the stock market is bullish so are the crypto markets.

However keep in mind if we break $69K most likely we will top at like $75K before heading back down. I don’t think we will make $100K this cycle.

Too much negative market data and there is a good chance of a recession on the horizon with the inflation we are getting.
2775  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Need help getting FTX Historical Data using API on: April 04, 2022, 10:38:13 PM
After hours of installing and re-installing different dependancies I finally got it to work. I has lots of warnings and errors but the chart actually loads.

So I am wondering how I can add volumes to the current code listed below.

Quote
import requests
import pandas as pd
import plotly.graph_objects as go

historical = requests.get('https://ftx.com/api/markets/BTC-PERP/candles?resolution=3600&start_time=1609462800').json()
historical = pd.DataFrame(historical['result'])
historical.drop(['startTime'], axis = 1, inplace=True)
historical.head()
historical['time'] = pd.to_datetime(historical['time'], unit='ms')
historical.set_index('time', inplace=True)
historical['20 SMA'] = historical.close.rolling(20).mean()
historical.tail()

fig = go.Figure(data=[go.Candlestick(x = historical.index,
                                    open = historical['open'],
                                    high = historical['high'],
                                    low = historical['low'],
                                    close = historical['close'],
                                    ),
                     go.Scatter(x=historical.index, y=historical['20 SMA'], line=dict(color='purple', width=1))])

fig.show()

I found a similar plotly code and tried to rewrite it to work with FTX API however I am getting errors.

Loading this code works for AAPL

Quote
import plotly.graph_objects as go
from plotly.subplots import make_subplots
import pandas as pd

# data
df = pd.read_csv('https://raw.githubusercontent.com/plotly/datasets/master/finance-charts-apple.csv')

# Create figure with secondary y-axis
fig = make_subplots(specs=[[{"secondary_y": True}]])

# include candlestick with rangeselector
fig.add_trace(go.Candlestick(x=df['Date'],
                open=df['AAPL.Open'], high=df['AAPL.High'],
                low=df['AAPL.Low'], close=df['AAPL.Close']),
               secondary_y=True)

# include a go.Bar trace for volumes
fig.add_trace(go.Bar(x=df['Date'], y=df['AAPL.Volume']),
               secondary_y=False)

fig.layout.yaxis2.showgrid=False
fig.show()

So I rewrote it as best as I could to match the first code such as,

Quote
import plotly.graph_objects as go
from plotly.subplots import make_subplots
import pandas as pd

# data
df = pd.read_csv('https://ftx.com/api/markets/BTC-PERP/candles?resolution=3600&start_time=1609462800')

# Create figure with secondary y-axis
fig = make_subplots(specs=[[{"secondary_y": True}]])

# include candlestick with rangeselector
fig.add_trace(go.Candlestick(x=df['startTime'],
                open=df['open'], high=df['high'],
                low=df['low'], close=df['close']),
               secondary_y=True)

# include a go.Bar trace for volumes
fig.add_trace(go.Bar(x=df['startTime'], y=df['volume']),
               secondary_y=False)

fig.layout.yaxis2.showgrid=False
fig.show()

However I get some error 403. I am pretty close and wondering if someone can look over my code and correct where my error is.
2776  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Few Tips I learnt from trading that blew my account. on: April 04, 2022, 02:57:32 AM
I think the reason why most retail crypto traders fail is either investing in low cap alt coins or using high leverage.

We all heard what happened with Doge and Shiba, so people are buying any low cap alt coins thinking they will score a 100x and instead they get rugged.

Or they use 100x leverage or even 20x leverage trading perps and they get liquidated whenever there is a decent sized move.
2777  Economy / Speculation / Re: [2022-03-26] Bitcoin sellers keep BTC price action in check amid $45K 'fakeout' on: April 04, 2022, 02:54:45 AM
I don’t think it’s a fake out either. The bears are still waiting for Saylor and Luna to finish their buys and until those are completed I don’t think they are going to short here since it seems that $50K is again back on the books.

When $50K breaks I think most of the retail FOMO will be back and we will have another huge rally into the ATH however i am not expecting $100K to break yet. Maybe we top at $76K or so.

Way too much political uncertainty right now.
2778  Economy / Economics / Re: Read If you are between 18 and 68 years old! on: April 04, 2022, 02:50:26 AM
Under 18 you can’t really invest. And over 68 depending on your health issues, money is going to be the last thing on your mind.

Between 18-68 is a huge span that covers most people. Besides me and a handful of other people I know. Most boomers which were middle class, never invested or traded unless it was some retirement account.

It’s too complicated for them so they just let their financial adviser invest their savings. With millennials it’s different because most are good with computers. And looking at wallstreetbets Reddit you can see how many made good money doing so.
2779  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia considers accepting Bitcoin for oil and gas on: April 04, 2022, 02:45:53 AM
I don’t know what to make of this. Is this bullish or bearish.

Keep in mind, if they are accepting Bitcoin then the import country needs to buy Bitcoin which is bullish however after they send it to Russia, what will Russia do with it? Most likely sell it back to Rubles which is bearish. So this entire transaction is neutral if anything.

What it will do is create a bad name and people will be saying that Bitcoin is used by criminals and such.
2780  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Which rookie candidate will make a better trader and quickly too? on: April 03, 2022, 02:29:56 AM
The issue with getting training from someone directly is whether or not that individual actually trades profitability or not. Most of these trading gurus are great teachers but they are horrible traders. So who knows if you would be better off just learning on your own.

I think most of these courses are good for extreme beginners however when you make it to the intermediate stage you are better off trading on your own and finding what works for you best.

Long time ago I learnt that when it comes to trading you can’t teach experience. You need to learn it the hard way on your own.
