Last era? We've barely begun.

Most people still don't know about Bitcoin nor have even heard of it. They may have been exposed to its existence on TV or other media but didn't bother to notice.

When I wear one of my BTC ballcaps, especially the one with the orange logo, most people still think I'm a Boston Bruins fan and I get flak for not supporting the Leafs. This is in a city with a long Bitcoin tradition and the birthplace of Ethereum.

We're still all early adopters. When bitcoins are worth $1m each we'll look back with envy at those who got in for less than $10k the way we look back now at those of us who got in when the price was in double digits, or looked back in those days at those who paid pennies.

Bitcoin is still a small niche. Just wait until it goes mainstream.

I didn't say I was "against banksters". I laugh at them and use them to my advantage. I don't have a bank account. I don't pay interest. I use them to save postage on utility payments and for the convenience of a credit card which I use only when I absolutely can't use cash.

Maybe Canada's wealth was partially created by the "debt economy" of which you speak, but most of it came from natural resources and the hard work and ingenuity of immigrants and their offspring.

I didn't hit any "jackpot" from "gangsters". I got into Bitcoin because I was a computer geek who loved the concepts of open-source software, peer-to-peer networking and cryptography.

My first purchase wasn't bitcoins, it was mining equipment. I had sufficient confidence in the importance of this new technology to not only hold on to all of my coins when the price dropped to $50, but to keep buying more. After going through this cycle repeatedly, I simply don't sweat it any more.

It was never about trying to get rich. It was about doing something good. The wealth that came was strictly a by-product. Don't confuse me with being some kind of "trader".

It used to be easier to pay with cash. If you went to the Toronto Hydro offices on Carlton Street you could pay a cashier in a wicket on the main floor. Not any more. The Rogers kiosk in the Eaton Center still accepts cash payments though.

Until I got the credit card, I used postal money orders to pay all my bills well in advance. I figured that by never having a late payment charge, it offset any paltry interest I might be missing from keeping my money in the bank. Instead the account credits I had at all the utilities served as money in the bank. By paying half a year's worth at once, I saved on the flat-rate money order fees, envelopes and postage.

Now I simply go to the bank that administers my credit card. Even though I don't have an account with them, they'll take my utility payments for a fee of $1 each. I still keep account credits though. As I said, money in the bank.

The banksters don't know what to think of me. I come waltzing in wearing my BTC ballcap and give them cash, only to find I don't have an account. Some of the flunkies tellers recognize the symbol on my cap and a few of them have struck up a conversation about it. One of them, obviously a real go-getter, even tried to talk me into selling some coins to "invest" in one of their fine financial products. LOL.

Just scanned through the intro and it seems right on. For me it seems to be just reinforcing what I already figured out for myself or learned at the school of hard knocks long ago.

Dropped out of art college in 1967, quit all 3 jobs I had in my life, 2 in less than 6 months, been job-free since 1977 (just say no) and have been living a fun life ever since.

Sure, I made some mistakes along the way. At one point I had 4 mortgages on 3 houses. Never again. The only way I'll ever have a mortgage again is if I'm the mortgage holder collecting compound interest.

I avoided owning a credit card for years but eventually broke down and got one (originally just to get a free t-shirt at the SkyDome!) which I only use for the internet, renting hotel rooms, cars, etc., and international travel. I pay it down immediately after using it. I'm proud to say Ive never received a statement with a payment due and never paid any interest except for a day or 2 on a cash advance.

I pay cash for everything possible and haven't had a working bank account for years.

I was doing just fine before Bitcoin earned me an obscene amount. Life is good.

My exit strategy is to only sell Bitcoin when I absolutely must, such as in the case of an emergency or for an important purchase (i.e. my new dental implants).

Maybe some day after Bitcoin has finished the vertical phase of the adoption curve and has leveled off, I'll find something that would be a better place to keep my wealth, but that's still years away.

For now, I'll continue to hold and spend only as required... and watch my wealth grow.

Or maybe you should ask Jamie Dimon. He's an "expert" isn't he?

Methinks $10k may take a while to be left behind for good.

I see we've held last night's gains and we're still over $9k... currently $9288USD/$11733CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

It was just a year ago we were trying to get back up to 4 digits after a winter (northern hemisphere) dip down to 3 digits. Now we're looking at getting back to 5 digits after a winter dip down to 4.

Last year we had to wait until March to finally leave 3 digits behind for good. Will we be able to get it done earlier this year?

4 digits is getting boring. C'mon spring, don't be late.

I used to think anyone over 40 was old. Now I think anyone under 40 is a clueless kid.

No, not all kids are clueless about life just as not all seniors are clueless about technology.

One of my older friends (pushing 80) was buying bitcoins at less than $200 and still buys the dips. Needless to say he's done quite well.

Meanwhile one of my younger friends in his 20s can't seem to understand Bitcoin. He thinks it's some kind of pyramid/Ponzi scam and that "the government" will "shut it down". Meanwhile he alternates between Mom's couch in Toronto and Dad's winter place in Thailand trying to get rich playing online poker. All this for a kid with a tested IQ over 180. Go figure.

Age has nothing to do with it. Mental flexibility counts a lot more.

I got back to T.O. to find both my landline and mobile internet services down. Just got reconnected last night, hence my lack of posting. I did however get to buy the lovely dip.

Now it appears that we finally got the high-volume capitulation we were waiting for and we're moving on up again... currently $8670USD/$10925CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Hopefully we'll be solidly back in 5 digits soon. I've gotta spend some coins in the middle of March to pay for the preliminary surgery for my new teeth. Booked for bone grafts on March 16 in Playa del Carmen with another 3 week vacation before it's safe to fly again.

While I don't expect an ATH by then, I do hope the price will be considerably higher than it is now. I'm really looking forward to a good autumn rally to pay for the next 2 stages, the implants and then the teeth themselves. Zirconia ain't cheap, even at deep discount Mexican prices.

I see we're back up over $9k after a brief dip under... currently $9154USD/$11370CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Almost checkout time at the hotel and we're off to Cancun airport to head back to civilization.

Probably won't see any significant revenues until Monday. Hopefully the price of Bitcoin will still be under $10kUSD.

I'd hate to think I missed this week's great buying opportunity.

My internet access was pretty much limited to occasional Android device access at cafes and bars during trips into town. Sometimes I'd even be able to get a semi-reliable connection where I was camping out.

One dude in town has satellite access and relays service out to the boonies via transponders mounted on bamboo poles. Sometimes it take 3 or 4 refreshes just to reach Google. Other times you can even watch streaming video. It's hitt and miss.
