What am I missing?
real-world experience honestly, people have tried (and failed) using your above strategy. PayPal doesn't care about your 'evidence'. They do as they please.

I just hope I didn't just lose 13btc because of random chance. Anyone have any consoling words for me?
um, don't send 13BTC worth of goods/services until your incoming 13BTC confirms

you can only buy virtual world currencies
well, if that's the case, then it should be easy enough to sell a virtual currency
not necessarily equivalent

i love btc-e too, but i never keep money on there.
whenever i want to trade btc<->ltc i follow these steps:
1. start TOR 2. register at btc-e.com with a random email address (it's unneeded) 3. deposit BTC/LTC 4. trade at market (not limit orders: that would keep funds on btc-e for too long for my liking) 5. withdraw BTC/LTC 6. burn account and close TOR

who cares even if ArtForz has a million billion litecoins?
...no different from early people having tons of BTC. the currency still works the same

well, someone eventually got it... after 3 hours.

Either you typed the private key wrong, or someone already claimed it, and it's not being updated on blockchain
i never typed it. only copy+paste from bitaddress.org and now, when i copy the key from this forum thread and paste into bitaddress.org, the correct bitcoin address pops up. my suspicion is simply that the value is too low to be swept into another address.
|
|
|
actually i got these from bitcoinget.com when i needed an address, i just hit up http://bitaddress.org and noted the keys. but for some stupid reason, i miscalculated the payout from bitcoinget and thought i'd receive 10x this amount. the amount is perhaps too small for people to bother sweeping? or maybe newbies just don't know how to do it without a fee... or, maybe i need to explicitly state FREE BITCOINS!!!1111!111 before all these honest folk will grab them.

Can you name me one thing that you can buy with BTC, that you cant buy with LTC?
LTC?
|
|
|
I refuse to use other cryptocurrencies simply because I want one of them to get really mainstream. Right now, Bitcoin is the leader when it comes to popularity, and the more people use Bitcoin, the more things I do with my Bitcoin.
No offense to LTC, it's just, why would I use it if I could use Bitcoin? There's already only very few things I can buy with it. A currency needs people using it to become useful. If only my dog accepts my SunnyCoins, I may as well not even have them. And yes, my dog has a little dog computer to browse the dogwebs.
On the other hand, if people suddenly started using LTC more than BTC...
if that happens, you'll be S.O.L, because you didn't have the foresight to diversify

i'd probably go for 210,000 BTC, which would be a much less 'round' figure when expressed in $ ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif)

erm, another idea...
you could make it so that the owner of a bear can do things to make their bear more attractive to potential buyers... eg. dress it in a funny hat or whatever, make a speech bubble that says "pick me"... etc. so that then they are unique and more tailored to the owner's personality (and marketing ability!). rather than price being the only consideration.
|
|
|
one issue i see is that i think most people will go for the lowest price bear. it follows then, that when the bears are all exactly the same price it is a bad time to buy one. (because then your bear will be the most expensive). seems it would be better to wait until 2/3 bears are bought and then try to get the cheap one, giving you more chance to get a buyer ...but then again, i don't have visitor/buyer stats so all of the above is just speculation ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) to counter-act the above, if it is indeed an issue, make the starting price different for each bear, such that they never end up having exactly the same price as one of the others.
