301  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ATX/Server PSU with 9 Volt, 10 A output and 4 x 6 pin connectors on: April 21, 2015, 10:02:30 AM
Hy all,
i am in the search for a PSU with 9 Volt and 10A output and four times a 6 pin connector.
Yes, you are guessing wright, i want to try out the recommended low voltage use in a antminer S5
I would be very glad if you can point out, where to get one of these PSU´s.

Kind regards,
elrippo

Don't waste your time, the S5 won't be stable below 11v.
Best efficiency I got was 0.44W/GH at the wall at 11.11v, anything below 11v starts but fails after a few minutes or doesn't start at all.
At 12v, I was drawing 0.54w/GH with the same PSU.

If you are still interested, I'll have a breakout board for this PSU adjustable from 10 to 13.5v via trim pot in a few weeks.

303  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Scrypt Miner Silverfish 20mhs 240watt Quantity on: April 21, 2015, 08:33:02 AM
Thanks for the warning, I almost got a few of these last week. The low power usage/MHash ratio kept me interested.

That's total BS for a miner needing 'authorization' to be used, after you fing buy it.  Angry

For stuff available from stock with good efficiency, the Alcheminer 256 is looking better than this old piece of ... with authorization.
I haven't bought alcheminer, but it seems they deliver, and they do it quite fast.
The software on it is crappy, it doesn't work well on all pools and you only get around 200MH on most of them, but it's "only" 1200$ delivered.

BTW, if someone from Europe is selling a dirt cheap silverfish "paperweight", I'd be interested to look at it.
There is some kind of register somewhere that stores the delay left before checking the server. It shouldn't be too hard to figure where it is.
There is a file that can be "extracted" with the chinese software that you were supposed to send to have permanent unlock.
This file from different units could be helpful too.
If it was from an unlocked unit, or one with still some time left before authorization check, it'd be even better.
2 files extracted from the same unit, not locked, with 2 days delay between extractions should be enough to figure where to look.

It makes me remember of the good old time of action replay on PSX for Final Fantasy 7  Grin
304  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 Specifications Revealed [Updated 14/4/15] on: April 20, 2015, 09:48:17 PM
If its pulling 1.75 watts per 3.17MH for scrypt thats a little over 2x increase in efficiency over KNC titans 3.9 watts/MH. Either way these have to be priced pretty low or be near the 10TH speed range to make any financial sense with current BTC/LTC prices.

Using the S5 as an example lets say it has 55 chips that means it runs at 8.4TH @ 1600 watts so if bitman can sell a 55 chip device for 400 then this would have to be priced somewhere around 1-2k USD to make sense.

I think 1.5k would be a sweet spot for such a device but thats probably a dream...even at 1.5k that would mean a 100 day ROI IF (and a BIG IF) difficulty continues to remain flat.

Of course this changes if they can simutainiously mine BTC/LTC ...but I'm pretty sure those stats are for single mode.

Then again people are still paying over 400 for an S5 which will never see an ROI so who knows...

They are supposed to release a 1 chip miner and a 24 chips miner
1 chip will probably be around 100 Gh stock, and maybe 2TH for the 24 chips (probably string design to feed the chips with 0.5v).
BTW, depending on what's inside the datasheet, a 20 or 22 chips string design could be a better choice, still efficient, but with a little undervolting capability for better efficiency.

Okay so our Dev Board will consist of 1 SF3301 chip. Our first miner will come in 2 forms: a single SF3301 miner and a 24 chip miner. These are still tentative plans, but be sure we'll update you when things become a little more concrete.
305  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 Specifications Revealed [Updated 14/4/15] on: April 20, 2015, 06:42:23 PM
So how do these power specs translate into watts per chip in both modes? Or is there a mistype and those specs should ready J/s? .19J/GH makes no sense.

maybe at the wall .25watts per gh.  best case number

they are vague  as to exact numbers as I type.  152 gh is mentioned but is that for 1 chip?

or is that for a multi chipped testing board?

152 GH/s for a single chip sounds (at least for now) like a pipe dream.

Spondoolies last chip was 200GH, Minion chip was 100GH, so 150 GH seems fine.

Anyway, we'll soon know with the test boards
306  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S4+ available for global sales on April 20th, shipping within one week on: April 20, 2015, 12:46:29 PM
Bitmain, any chance you'll release an upgrade kit for existing S4s? Those of us that are using upgraded PSUs could easily swap the old board with the new ones.

Someone wrote in another thread that bitmain can sell individual parts for current miners.
It may be an option to "make" your own upgrade kit.
307  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S4+ available for global sales on April 20th, shipping within one week on: April 20, 2015, 08:34:21 AM
Antminer S5: $340 for 1155 Ghash, which is $294 per Thash at 0.51W/Ghash

New Antminer S4+: $946 for 2570 Ghash, which is $368 per Thash at 0.58W/Ghash

What am I missing? New miner is released which is less efficient but the price per Ghash is higher? The difference is more then $70 per Thash, definetly not worth the PSU you get with it...

I agree with you, a DPS2000BB with fans and breakout board will cost roughly 100$, can power 3x S5 and can be used with your next gen miner.
308  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S4+ available for global sales on April 20th, shipping within one week on: April 20, 2015, 08:29:14 AM
For the same price, you can have 3xS5, more efficient and hashing at 3400-3500 GH.
Bad timing to release this one, or the price should be dropped under 640$.

S2 upgrade kits with BM1384 would have been better right now, or some kind of S6.
309  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Scrypt Miner Silverfish 20mhs 240watt Quantity on: April 19, 2015, 04:08:18 PM
Have these machines been reconfigured to not timeout? I know the 2 I had I never could get them to send me the method of enabling them not to timeout due to them having to connect to a central computer for verification, which is the dumbest shit I have ever heard of. So now they are in the closet collecting dust. You should lower your price by 1/2 then you might be able to sell them.

While googling for silverfish units a few days ago, I found a link with some update to do so it doesn't expire anymore.
I'll go and have a look if I can find it.

Edit, here is the firmware update, but it seems it'll only work if your time isn't expired.

Good day! you sell me three boards for power supply DPS-2000 BB old-style (screw terminal) + shipping to Russia for $ 120?! say yes or no?! thank you.  Cheesy

I replied to your private message.
BTW, the priority mail international option isn't offered by my post office anymore (Petit paquet).
311  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 Specifications Revealed [Updated 14/4/15] on: April 18, 2015, 08:27:40 AM
What is the cost for this dev board? I am pretty sure its not free.

No, I expect to pay something for the board.  The more boards going out the better the innovation will be.  No reason to limit them as long as they are recouping their costs.

Since they will be "sample" boards, probably hand made, you can expect to pay something close to 1$/Gh (nominal hashing speed).
I'm also interested in sample chips since in july and august last year I worked on a design for Gridseed chips that never came up because I was unable to source the chips.
Maybe this time will be the good one.
312  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 - so did I fry it? on: April 16, 2015, 09:32:52 PM
I just don't believe that 8 pin EPS connector would fit into 6 pin PCIE connector. They has different shape configuration.

You would have to force it very hard I would think.   I'm unsure how he managed it.  I have not seen it done that is why I personally wonder if S1 is still good, it will be interesting to see what it does after this.

You don't have to force, it's as simple as the manufacturers not using the 45558 or 45718 PCI-E connectors but another one with a different keying.
the 45559-0002 PCI-e and other minifit Jr connectors are fitting perfectly since the only difference on the connector is a square hole instead where the PCI-E have a rounded one.

313  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 Specifications Revealed [Updated 14/4/15] on: April 15, 2015, 03:18:27 PM
We’d like to reiterate that our ASIC’s development board design and its software will be published in April. Is there anyone interested in the development board? Or anyone enjoy to use it personalize your miners?

It would be great if we could cultivate some discussion about these documents both to help with future projects and to enable developers to get the most out of them.

I'm interested in dev board design, bare asics for custom design, and maybe assembled dev board.
314  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: ASUS Gaming laptop for 3 BTC 1/3 the price on: April 14, 2015, 06:02:48 PM
sorry this is too low :/

No need to apologise, it was worth giving it a try Smiley

3 BTC is still a bargain to be honest, so I might reconsider the offer depending on my Bitcoin balance in the next few days... Smiley

You are right, the price is good, and they are nice laptops, I'm currently using a G750JH, and it's a really nice piece of hardware.
315  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 Specifications Revealed [Updated 14/4/15] on: April 14, 2015, 01:22:38 PM
BGA  Sad
This particular choice will greatly reduce the number of homemade/independent boards for this chip.
The center grid is probably GND, if the other ones have been placed in a smart way (areas instead of individual pins), it's still doable for most of the guys who are already soldering qfn or similar packages.
316  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Bladecenter H 2880W Breakout Boards. First batch closed, collecting deposit on: April 12, 2015, 01:44:27 PM
Hello, maybe you can tell where i can buy many of Astec AA23920L? And your boards for that will be next step =)

Thanks.

Depending on where you live, Ebay may work fine. You can use bladecenter H or 2880w (sometimes 2900w) as key words
in the US, it's not unusual to find the PSU for 50$ shipped.
In Europe, prices are closer to 80$

318  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: IBM 2880W Bladecenter PSU Breakout Boards - 80+ Platinum power on: April 09, 2015, 11:03:32 PM

I plan to order more of those PSU's and cables once i figure out how to replace the PSU of an S4 with one of these.

Thanks Man

If you get them to work well with an S4 with screws instead of PCI-e, take some pictures and write step-by-step instructions (what adapter needed, what wire to cut, etc.), I am interested.

Thanks!

After a few minutes looking at it, the hardest part of the job will be to fit the PSU inside the case (quite difficult since the case is 13cm high, and the PSU in its side is 20cm...)
If you put it outside of the case to power 2 ant S4, you'll be fine, and adapter cables will be easy to make.
Splice 3x ground soldered together to the appropriate gauge or directly crimped to the correct connector, and do the same with the +12v ones.

You can also simply solder the PCI-E plugs where they are missing on the hashing boards if you have the boards with screws instead of PCI-E plugs.

319  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: IBM 2880W Bladecenter PSU Breakout Boards - 80+ Platinum power on: April 09, 2015, 07:40:29 PM
Got my 2 PSU's breakout boards and PIC-E cables within a week of placing my order

the packaging was impecable bubble wrap on everything and even zipties for the cables !

Both PSU's work one thing though I have hardware that seemed to require an 8pin PCI-E male input

so i ordered these :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-6-Pin-PCI-E-Female-to-8-Pin-EPS-Male-Power-Cable-Adapter-for-PC/251573913677?_trksid=p3693.c100102.m2452&_trkparms=ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140212121249%26meid%3D655ac8d6e56b4e73aca3db9c18f64f8d%26pid%3D100102%26

hooked them up and they MELTED !! my fire alarm went off , I mean this happend the seccond i turned on the PSU's

So i tried just using The six pin 36" PCI-E cables that Finsky sent me in the 8 pin slots and it worked withoute the adapter : which probbaly means those last two are just ground or something.

I will never order cables or adapters from China via Ebay again!!

I plan to order more of those PSU's and cables once i figure out how to replace the PSU of an S4 with one of these.

Thanks Man

You are right regarding the extra pins on 8 pins PCI-E, they are simply ground, so they don't allow for higher amps.
The power still flow through 3 yellow cables.
And the 8 pins PCI-E cables in NOT the same as the EPS one you linked. on EPS, you have 4 yellow (+12v) and 4 black (ground) wires instead of 3 and 5.
Plus the ground next to the latch on the PCI-E, where on the EPS, the +12V is next to the latch.

Even if it looks easy, and unless you are absolutely sure of what you are doing, please take the time to ask when the breakout board/cables won't go straight in the miner.
Custom cables can be made upon request, and sometimes, like in your case, they aren't necessary.

You were lucky, you could also have burnt your miner.

Some chinese manufacturers don't care about the real quality of the cables they are selling for one reason:
PCI-E cable is supposed to be used on a GPU drawing 75w for 6 pins and 150w for 8 pins
So, even with their crappy thin cables like 20 AWG, you should be safe for a GPU, but miners manufacturers are pushing the connectors (and other parts) to the limits to save a few cents.
That's the reason why we can see some miners drawing up to 250 or 300w from a single 6 pins PCI-E plug, and the manufacturer asks you to use 16 AWG or better wires with 45750 series crimp pins.

BTW, what is the hardware requiring the 8 pins connectors?

Regarding the S4, I'll have a look since I got a few parts from one, and I want to play with them.
