People taking the martingale "strategy" or even the reverse martingale strategy will often do so under the impression that eventually, they will win.
Well here's the thing, these strategies only work if you have unlimited money.

So really, chances aren't on anybody's side. Something will get to you. Perhaps the realistic chance of getting many consecutive losses, max wins, max bets etc...
It's best to just play gambling with amounts that are irrelevant. Then you don't have to worry about losses.
323  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you experience this sometimes? on: March 05, 2024, 10:45:20 PM
When I make bets on multi-bet slips, I tend to have a goal of a certain multiplier on my slip. If I go way past it, I might remove some of the more uncertain matches to me.
If I bet with money I'd rather take a win than a longshot with, I am 100% ok with a 10x multiplier on my slip for my more risky multibets. Otherwise 5x is also ok. Then the goal becomes to not lose more times out of the multiplier goal. For example for 10x, win more than 1/10 and it's ok etc.

So yeah, I surely have experienced this. But there isn't always a need to feel reserved. If you want you can fill your slip with matches and just place the minimum possible bet. Generally this is a thing you can balance with decreasing your stake.
324  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: March 05, 2024, 10:40:41 PM
So here's the play-off schedule

It's interesting to see these matches having come out of a draw because some very interesting matchups came out of it.

First off, Panathinaikos with Olympiakos on the first match? Whoah haha. Derby of the eternal enemies again! We already got it so many times this season because aside of just superleague matches there was also the Greek cup. Now the play off format gives us another. Maybe it becomes tiring after a certain point though.

Other interesting matches are PAOK with Aris. And from the big teams AEK seems to have it the easiest.
325  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which player are you? on: March 04, 2024, 03:41:08 PM
In casino betting there is also bets that take a while to see if you won or lost. For example buying spins on slots machines usually means you can buy enough spins to see the machine spinning for a few minutes. With stakes originals there is probably fair slots that you can set the minimum bet as low as you want and buy very cheap free spins, however many you want really.

With traditional slots it's going to be a bit more expensive as there will be a minimum bet that usually stats at 20 cents.

Personally I tend to like sports a bit more lately because I can relax watching a game but if it's about larger amounts I think I stsnt results are better because you can get off the stress faster 🤣
326  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lottery ticket sports bets on: March 04, 2024, 01:53:37 PM
In my country I see a lot of people doing this, they analyze more than 17 games and then place the more than 17 games in a multibet bet and place between $1 and $5 and I myself have seen many people from my country win a lot of money. With this type of strategy, a few years ago I took a trip to another city and stayed at my relatives' house. One of my relatives makes sports bets and he only makes multi bets, so I asked him why he only made mutibet bets and he answered me as follows: because he wants to win a lot of money, he doesn't want to waste time spending hours analyzing a game and then place a bet and when the result of the bet comes out you win little money because you made a simple bet. He always told me that time was very valuable and that he didn't like wasting time on bets that didn't make money.

Because of how low the chances of winning such a bets are, even anything above 1$ on such multi bets is a bit much. You would have to make thousands of such bets to realistically win even one if the odds are 1 mil. That doesn't also mean the chances are 1 in a mil. They are actually 0.33... to the power of 25 for a 25 leg multi bet with soccer matches because they can have three outcomes. So that's why I always go for this type of bet with the minimum bet possible. I think sports books alsk have some kind of max win too so there's no point putting in a stake that's too high.
327  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: March 04, 2024, 11:36:52 AM
So today the league's results will be officiated and a little later there will be a draw to see how games will go in the play off round. The Greek super league holds a hybrid format where the top teams in the rankings after the first phase are put against each other for the league's title as well as spots in champion's league, Europa league and the conference league.

Also the bottom teams battle each other to avoid relegation.
328  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Work Now May Not Work Tomorrow on: March 04, 2024, 11:24:21 AM
This isn't just true for luck based games but also for games that are based on real life events like sports or politics. First if all mishaps happen in sports all the time but there's also crazy rules for how each platform will handle weird events like for example fans running in the field.

The supposed strategies that work for sports might have some more merit seemingly, but in reality if you judge by the chances there is a much higher house edge in sports. Overall it's a weird equation but it should all point toward there not being a strategy that will work all the time.
329  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: March 03, 2024, 10:35:51 PM
Damn what an adventurous fucking matchday!

I can't help but wonder how Panathinaikos didn't win against OFI. I surely wasn't expecting that.
Thankfully we won our other bets which was betting on a PAOK win and on an over 1.75 bet on the Aris - AEK match.

We're waiting now for the play-off and the play-out matchups to be placed.

Meanwhile I'm considering starting to track the success of past picks in this thread. Working on an excel now Cheesy
330  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lottery ticket sports bets on: March 03, 2024, 06:39:04 PM
By doing this you're literally giving your money to the sportsbook because the margin taken by the casino is also multiplied. So for example if the edge taken by the house is 3% by bet, the odds of your final multi bet will have 109% house edge.
hahaha
I get your point but I don't think house edge can get above 100% Cheesy
Like I said, there's no solid strategy and these bets are very hard to win. But at 5 cents a piece, it's a very cheap lottery ticket.
If we want to talk strategy, multi bets are simply the parlay strategy where the winnings are carried over to the next bet along with the previous stake. So the best strategy to win a parlay bet is of course to find the game with the lowest possible house edge. Moneypot.com had a 0.1% house edge but now that it closed I'm not sure if there's anything equivalent. Surely sports bets have a house edge above 1% that most provably fair games will have though. So the parlay strategy can also be replicated with dice. It just feels a little different on sports bets, so if we're talking a few cents a day, it's just whatever the one placing the bets prefers.

Also, I am not sure whether you are willing to openly talk about it but, have you ever been able to win some money using this method for betting? If so what was your initial reaction? If not, what you ever met someone who indeed managed to get money this way?  Tongue
I'll be 100% honest, I haven't won even a single bet slip with 25 matches on it. Even in cases when I went in for bets that had odds under 1.2, there happened a few mishaps and I lost in at least a couple of my choises.
I wholly don't expect to win when I put 25 matches in a bet slip and that's why I only go in those with the minimum bet allowed, which is 5 cents.

On the other hand, if you want a reliable mutli-bet strategy, I've made a thread about how I tend to pick matches with the intention to win in multibets. I usually go  for a goal of a 10x multiplier with matches in those though or even just 5x. This can be fulfilled by 3 or up to 6 football matches usually and rarely more.
331  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eurovision 2024 bets on: March 03, 2024, 06:22:34 PM
Iceland has revealed the song they will likely choose for the contest yesterday, that is to say the winner of their national contest Söngvakeppnin 2024, we still don't know if they will participate because they don't want to compete with Israel AFAIK, but I really like this song, I think it's my favorite this year, up to now. I hope they will decide to participate because they could reach the Top5 or maybe the Top3 quite easily with this entry IMO

Hera Björk - Scared of Heights
It's almost a pity Bashar Murad who was tipped to represent Iceland this year lost to this.
From what I understand his lyrics had nothing to do with politics, but the sheer fact that he's Palestinian was surely something in response to Israel still participating in the contest.
It's been such a long time since we saw some good action in Eurovision.

You guys may not agree with me, but after hearing all of the entries you have been posting on this topic, it seems to me that modern music is just music. By composing their pieces, I've come to learn that some musicians are lifeless. It seemed as though they were merely performing; they had no emotion at all and were doing it to win the competition. You have to connect the lyrics with the music in order to truly appreciate its genuine meaning, which is not only based on the beat or rhythm, as only a few people will understand. Some lyrics can also be used in politics, you know. I mean, for me, there is nothing wrong when someone creates music about politics and how the government operates. In that way, they can express their feelings and be able to forward other people's concerns, and they will be able to become aware of the truth of how society is going. I think that it would catch the attention of people, and they would have some thoughts about it.
No I kinda agree but what did you expect? High art or song that you can resonate with on a very personal level from an international competition?
Eurovision's format kinda favors low effort easy to understand songs. So rarely an artist will go there with his best song. They'll just write a pop song quite hastily specifically for the competition. It's a competition known for pop and RnB songs because they have the widest appeal. But there's the occasional outlier that also does well. We live for these moments here, like when Italy won.

If you think about it, even in Eurovision's "golden" era, the good music we remember from there is still corny pop songs like ABBA's waterloo...
332  Economy / Gambling discussion / Lottery ticket sports bets on: March 03, 2024, 02:13:42 PM
I can't be the only one that does this  Cheesy

When I am bored, I might seek out matches to make a multibet with the maximum amount of matches allowed.
So let's say at stake.com where you are allowed to make multibets with up to 25 match outcomes, you can pick up to 25 markets, even with live matches.

To give an example of why and how that can be interesting:
If you find 25 matches with odds 1.74, then that means your total multiplier would be 1.74^25 which would be above 1 mil. You can bet with as little as 5 cents and if you come true to all of your predictions earn more than $50k.

Of course there's no solid strategy behind actually winning such bets. It's super hard to win any of these bets especially if you put in the max amount of matches. But since it's something you can do with stale as low as 5 cents, not much harm is being done.

What do you think of such bets? Have you ever considered doing it?
333  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did people buy bitcoin before Mt. Gox? on: March 03, 2024, 01:49:49 PM
Even when Mt. Gox exchange was still active I remember making transactions peer to peer if I wanted to liquidate some Bitcoin. I would for example have someone order stuff I needed for me with their credit card and when it arrived I would pay with BTC. Of course this requires some experience and quite a bit of trust between the parties, but on many occasions it is better. It is still possible to transact peer to peer and trade crypto with cash. Many people actually prefer it.
334  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eurovision 2024 bets on: March 03, 2024, 12:36:38 PM
I think this year indeed joke songs will have higher chances to win because now yet another divisive issue has been added to the polarizing arena of international politics. Last year people were still voting based on the Ukraine/Russia war, now many countries are showing support to Palestine with their entry while others have so far showed support for Israel.

Even jury votes are kinda biased so this year the voters that go for a joke entry might be the most compact group.
335  Other / Meta / Re: Use of AI on Bitcoin talk on: March 03, 2024, 09:13:20 AM
In my experience, most reports that are submitted there and follow the guidelines tend to get addressed by the moderators.
That's a good thread and thanks for bringing it to my attention. However I'm very doubtful on what moderators expect to delete a post or thread response based on the AI accusation. Sometimes even for an AI system, there can be bad outputs (as I mentioned it being a trash in trash out system). I've reported obvious word salads that reshuffle words in the OP or from other responses at best adding a couple original words. Even those didn't get taken down.

Even in the aforementioned thread there's responses from over a week ago that came out as AI generated text with 98% certainty, and the mods still did not remove it.

Since mods are acting in this manned, not being strict or outright ignoring AI posts... I am wondering. Should there be more mobilization of users in that regard? Perhaps start giving neg trust to those abusing AI to make posts... Or we just don't care about it anymore?
336  Other / Meta / Re: Use of AI on Bitcoin talk on: March 03, 2024, 08:54:26 AM
There should be some framework to address AI posts.

The other day I reported a post reply that was clearly AI generated. For instance, when you put into ChatGPT a piece of text and say to it "write a response in similar words" it will just reshuffle the words and make a response that barely makes any sense, recycling all the input. It's a trash in trash out system after all.

So instead of at least providing some incentive to make such reports mods labeled them as bad... I almost never have my reports labeled as bad and I've made thousands of reports. So if mods treat reports against AI like this, then I think the forum is doomed to be flooded with AI messages, which mods are seemingly giving a greenlight too.

It's obvious even to me that many participants in signature campaigns have started using AI models for their thread responses, but very rarely are they called out about it and even if they are, signature campaign managers that pay them get no consequences...
337  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you had this gambling experience? on: March 02, 2024, 08:23:36 PM
Personally I only watch local basketball and football so I can say I am not enthusiastic about many matches. If I was tk be betting o my on games I am watching I would be betting on soccer once every two or three weeks due to time constraints also. The thing I take UK TK when gambling lately is putting low stakes in high odds paroly bets lately as I find this more enjoyable. I like the chances but not being obsessed with every single match to be honest. And being ok with low stakes is better for me.

But of course everyone has their own style. I think it's a bit superstitious to consider that you have more or less chances to win based on if you are interested in a match or not.
338  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it time now to use Premium VPN when playing in the casino? on: March 02, 2024, 06:20:18 PM
Really though on most countries you don't need a VPN to access online casinos. They mostly work with just changing the DNS. Most countries don't have further enforcement against online casinos so the extra privacy of a VPN is not that needed.

Also be wary of these "premium" personal IP services as they are often scams. Or at the very least misleading. You should be careful in which casino you play at though, if they are not friendly to a VPN and you need a VPN in your country and might as well not okay at these casinos. Go to casinos that don't care about KYC and VPNs instead.
339  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: March 02, 2024, 09:35:55 AM
AEK Athena as the top of the standings seems to be in an unfavorable condition because they have to compete with PAOK in maintaining their top position because their difference is only 1 point.
Indeed it's a tough last match for AEK because Aris is a very decent team. In the event that AEK loses or even ends up in a tie with Aris it's possible that their spot as first could be overtaken very easily by PAOK. If they lose Panathinaikos could be also coming in a tie in points with them in the first place, which will be judged by other metrics such as goals.

I was about to post this weekend's match, but you already have. There are a few interesting matches that are worth betting on, such as PAOK vs. Lamia, which you already mentioned; Olympiakos vs. Volos; and possibly AEK vs. Aris. Although AEK has the first position in the Super League, nothing is guaranteed, and Aris' performance is quite decent as well. The rest of them seem like a lost cause to me, and betting on them seems risky. Although I also support OFI, I'm going to stay neutral this time. I'd rather not lose money just because it's our local team. Panathinaikos is most likely to win, judging by their standing.

Indeed I think Panathinaikos and PAOK have easier matches for their last match compared to AEK which is facing Aris who are considered one of the bigger and more historical teams in Greece. It'll be an interesting faceoff for all teams but still Aris doesn't have much to gain from this. Their point difference is too big to enter into a better position. Still fighting for Valor they would still push for a win IMO because winning against the first team in the standings counts a lot.
340  Other / Politics & Society / Why haven't you joined a union yet? on: March 02, 2024, 09:29:49 AM
I saw a poll recently that stated that approval of Unions in the United States is the highest it has been ever since 1965.

This is proof that the landscape is changing on a global scale. If a country like the U.S., which was plagued by state and government propaganda has an approval rating for unions above 70%, then any place in the world could be seeing increases in unionization of workers. Let's be realistic, there are many distractions in the U.S. that could lead someone to believe that Unions don't work. Let's not kid ourselves, even other than the red scare and cold war propaganda, the U.S. is a big economy and many people are doing well. Combined with some yellow unions that have emerged recently, it's no wonder many people aren't that fond of unions. However that has been changing over the years. Corporate profits have been increasing, while workers get meager to no salary increases. In the meantime prices keep going up with inflation.

In reality, US wages in terms of purchasing power have been very stagnant:

So the question now is, why haven't YOU changed a union?

I understand there could be very varied answers to this. From there not being a union in your location or field of expertise, perhaps the recognized "union" being influenced by the bosses too much, maybe even class issues (considering oneself too well off to participate in a worker's union) or perhaps even political disagreements with what most union members might consider a better world still outside the workplace. I'm eager to hear what crypto users have to say on the matter because well, using crypto doesn't exclude one from being part of the working class.
