Any clues or hints on why it would run fast at the beginning and then slow down? Your chainstate directory gets bigger, and eventually doesn't fit your RAM anymore. That large increases the disk reads and writes. But still, about 10 times slower than mine shouldn't happen. What SSD do you have? I started at the same rate: Converted to progress per hour: ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fprogressperhour.gif&t=664&c=sNAp6xiv9vz1-Q)

I don't even think he'll be banned for spamming: posting the same thing after you deleted it could be considered a bump. A bump? It might technically be considered that (even if it's stretching the definition), but it's not a bump in spirit and I think we all probably can agree on that. We agree, but the point was I don't think they'll be banned for this. If it's spam, it's gone already. Even plagiarism won't get you banned if you delete it by yourself.

You didn't consider a neutral tag then? Nope, the topics about it were mostly ignored so I didn't bother. I guess TheQuin's "bullying" of people who complained worked well back then. I remember him posting he's just not going to respond anymore.

Is it possible that not all winners came to the Bitcointalk forum and reported their winnings? 5 or 10 big wins in this statistic can significantly change the final assessment, and that is quite a possible scenario. That possibility was brought up before (probably back in 2018). But I don't think that's likely: they get paid $5 to post on Bitcointalk, and we're talking about people who clicked captchas to earn $0.002 per hour. They literally earn 2500 times more by posting on Bitcointalk, so I don't think the larger prize winners are less likely to post. And they'd have to be 12.5 times less likely to post than $20 prize winners to make the prize distribution plausible. The website's need for publicity turns out to be the smoking gun. You know that sample size doesn't prove anything, because if it did, no matter how conservative you are with your feedbacks you would have red tagged them long ago. It's hard to convince people a tag is justified, when it comes to statistical evidence. Not even counting everyone in that thread one by one would do it. I'm used to in poker that to get an idea the minimum sample size is 50K hands. And as brutal as variance can be, to prove things, better half a million hands. That's peanuts compared to the sample I mentioned. With half the data from 10 out of 152 pages, I got a 0.00000239452 chance of it happening. Assuming (I'm not going to count 152 pages) that continues on the other pages, the chance of so little $200 prizes is (give or take) 0.00000239452 30. That's around 2.4*10 -169. Your one in a million poker hands are going to happen eventually. The E-169 thing confirms foul play. In any case, with such a small sample, it seems quite a high deviation from what the mean should be, I agree. That's all I wanted to hear ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)
Quick math: I checked the "BITCOINS WON BY USERS" counter on their website. It increases by about 1 Bitcoin every 40 seconds. That's about 15 Bitcoin per hour. 360 per day. At 5% house edge, the house earns about 18 Bitcoin per day. That's $1.25 million. Could that be anywhere near the truth?

time sync core@core:~/.bitcoin$ time sync
real 0m0.416s user 0m0.002s sys 0m0.000s not sure what this is showing me. I have a very slow HDD in my system. When doing the above, it can take minutes to sync. It it would be many seconds for your SSD, I would have called it bad. At 0.4s, I can't really tell. For an idle system it's a few ms. After thinking about it for a while my thinking at this point is I am getting somehow ISP throttled which fits the facts that initially I was seeing fairly normal progress. That's easy to test: rename your Bitcoin Core directory and restart from scratch. If it's fast again, it's not your ISP.

Also after updating the dbcache setting still ridiculously slow like .09% per hour. Like 10 times too slow. Have a look at hard disk io/load. I forgot what I used exactly, but Google gives many options. Quick (but inconclusive) test: how long does this take?

What to make of this? Why would anyone do this? Here's why: You are probably right, dumb people don't have infinite money but you completely ignore that there is an infinity of dumb people and they are constantly expanding like the universe does. So, technically we have an infinite money. With ordinals or runes, I can imagine someone's selling that crap to countless dumb people. But in this case, I don't see how anyone can sell it to gullible victims. It looks like one dumb person who's wasting millions of dollars, and usually people who are that dumb don't have that kind of money (anymore). We need a blockexplorer that shows how much each address has spent on fees! That's not really possible: most addresses have multiple inputs. Even better if they keep creating small inputs to consolidate. See this address: none of it makes any sense. It might be a controversial take, but I'd rather have a delayed yet proper second layer solution, even if it's going to dissatisfy those transacting on-chain for a long time, than have every user temporarily satisfied but tricked into believing that rising the on-chain capacity arbitrarily is the way to go over the long term. I "joined Bitcoin" in 2015. In 2017, blocks were full for the first time, which lead to very high transaction fees. That was 6.5 years ago. I'd love to see an actively used second layer solution, but it's taking too long. The future of money requires proper DoS protection and a self-sustainability assurance mechanism, and that's the block size limit. The fact that an on-chain transaction currently costs $30 is evidence that it works. The spam protection may work, but if it also restricts using Bitcoin as a payment system, it's damaging adoption. What's the point of a blockchain when it stores 80% spam? so 60 blocks average fee for them around 3.5 coins Why would anyone burn 15 million dollars on this?

I updated dbcache=4096 and will continue to monitor progress hourly How is your memory load? My guess is you've reached the part where your SSD-speed (both reads and writes) is the limiting factor due to the low RAM. There's a huge difference between SSDs: some have very bad performance when it comes to combined reads and writes. If it's a budget SSD, that may be the cause. On a similar setup, it took me less than 2 days to complete the IBD. See this post on my progress. Considering the low price of RAM, if at all possible, add some ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) That should make things run much smoother.

How about Newbie Kryss191? It hurts my eyes reading this crap: It sounds like you've got a strong setup there. It's not exceptional for the starting adjust to moderate down because it advances, but the rate you're encountering appears curiously moderate. Your equipment ought to be competent of quicker advance. Since you've checked the debug.log and found no blunders, and your arrangement settings appear appropriate, it's worth considering a couple of other potential components. Firstly, guarantee your web association is steady and not encountering any issues. In some cases organize interferences can essentially moderate down the syncing process. Also, check in the event that your antivirus or firewall settings can be interferometer with the syncing handle. Some of the time excessively forceful security settings can cause slowdowns. You may too attempt restarting the syncing prepare or restarting your computer through and through to see in case that makes a difference to progress the speed.

About the subscription. That seemed to me to defeat the purpose of having the hardware device. Correct. Read Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities for all the reasons why this is a very, very bad idea. But are you saying that the nano 3 (itself) is not a cold wallet? A cold wallet is by definition a wallet that's never been connected to the internet. A hardware wallet that has the ability to broadcast it's seed phrase is a flaming hot wallet. or only not so, if you get the recovery subscription? That's the thing with Ledger: you don't know! With a cold wallet, you're certain your private keys have never touched an online device. Update Again:Unregistering was easy. So now, I'm on my own. All I had to do was follow the Recovery link, navigate to Manage my account[/b], and delete my login. Then confirm through a link sent to my email. According to the responsie it says "unregistered". Easy Peasy. Is it? Are you sure? Can you be sure? If you told me your seed phrase, and I told you I deleted it, would you trust me? You should assume your seed phrase is now compromised. Don't fund it. You could reset the Ledger and create a new seed, but are you willing to trust Ledger now that you know the hardware wallet can "call home" to share your seed phrase? Note that Ledger literally lied about the security of their devices: for years, they said it's impossible for the seed phrase to leave the secure element. Then they created a "subscription service" that literally extracts the seed phrase from your device. Are you willing to risk your money with a company that lies about it's core business?
So Ledger set up it's "recovery" subscription in such a way that they trick new users into subscribing and sharing their seed phrase? Damn!

That's $6600 in transaction fees per transaction, consolidating in the dumbest possible way. I stand corrected: they're now paying $15,000 per transaction.

Someone is broadcasting a small fortune in transaction fees: ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fjohoe21.png&t=664&c=NijsBOnWIMzrkg) The number of incoming transactions is often above average in batches, but now it's continuous for hours: ![Image loading...](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Floyce.club%2Fother%2Fmempool13.png&t=664&c=_OvqlufPDJgRLQ) Most of the transactions are consolidations, like this one: it has received and sent 2 transactions in the past few days, all in a similar pattern. That's $6600 in transaction fees per transaction, consolidating in the dumbest possible way. What to make of this? Why would anyone do this?

The difference is due to the way that FBC rounds the number. I believe it was TheQuin who actually explained how it works once, but basically he said the chance of spinning a 10000 is only half of how it appears... I can't find the exact post that explains it but this is why the $200 win happens disproportionately less often than the $20 win. That means anything under 9999.5 is rounded down. I accounted for that in my post above. There's still a factor 12.5 unaccounted for.

Tbh I don’t give a rat’s ass if they have been cheating the free rolls because the players also do cheat. Not all players cheat. Casinos are supposed to be fair. Really? One can tell you have no idea about gambling. Nobody in their right mind would gamble at a casino with 5% house edge, when competitors offer a 1% house edge. This is a faucet, and people spent years clicking them. By using this "random" number, they can easily manipulate it. All they have to do is reset the server seed once in a while. It's quite obvious they did it for the $200-winners, but unclear if they also did it for the $20 winners. Just a few resets every 10,000 rolls would be enough to reduce the total cost of their faucet (which is after all meant to get people hooked to gambling) by up to 90%. They couldn't do that with a fixed faucet amount. Based on the odds, I would expect one $200 winner for every 2 $20 winners. I did a (manual) count on pages 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 on Big wins at FreeBitco.in: I just won $20 at FreeBitco.in! 116 times I just won $200 at FreeBitco.in! 2 times I probably miscounted a bit, but let's round it down: winning $200 is 50 times less likely than winning $20, and that makes the difference 25 12.5 times larger than it should be. You know that such a small sample doesn't prove anything, don't you? Every day I see plays that have a 5% or less chance of happening. I manually counted 10 pages. If you think my sample size is too small, feel free to count all 152 pages for a much larger sample size. Math time! 118 rolls (and correcting my mistake from 2018): 1 number pays $200 for every 4 numbers that pay $20 (I'm ignoring all rolls other than the 2 highest winners). Expected outcome: around 23.6 times $200, and 94.4 times $20. Reality: 2 times $200, and 116 times $20. What are the odds of this happening? My statistical math is rusty so I'm taking shortcuts: let's say it took 59 rolls to hit $200. Odds of hitting $20 at the first roll: 0.8 Odds of hitting $20 in the first 2 rolls: 0.8 2=0.64 .... Odds of hitting $20 in the first 58 rolls: 0.8 58=0.00000239452. That's 0.000239% chance. Note that I ignored the other half of the counted rolls. So, and correct me if my math is wrong: this doesn't have a 5% chance of happening, it's 20,000 times less! And this is exactly what I meant when I said the bad signs were there, but were massively ignored. The odds of this happening twice in a row are several orders of magnitude lower. Count the rest of the topic, and you'll see this pattern continues.

This user should not only receive negative trust rating but should also be banned. I don't even think he'll be banned for spamming: posting the same thing after you deleted it could be considered a bump. Copy-pasting content is prohibited in this forum, right? The bannable offense is plagiarism, which is taking the content of others and passing it of as yours. I've seen this many times: apparently the concept of plagiarism is still confusing. At least this puts xLays on the safe side ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) What if we tag stake.com, their manager and the participants for spamming? That would be considered Trust abuse.

This is not usually spam. He posted the same content in 38 posts I'd say that's exactly what spammers do. I would also like to hear how these four Stake managers see the whole matter. Wild guess: they don't care.
