1021  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Sharing for Bitcoin Core download: the cheapest pay-per-hour VPS I found. on: January 22, 2024, 08:34:30 PM
wasn't the data downloaded by bitcoin core more than allocated DISK space on your virtual machine?
I used pruning.

And knowing there is over 500gb of the blockchain to be downloaded as of today, do I ignore specs from VPS being listed and go for it or do I need to match up the data required for a full sync to complete..?
The data limits were added after I wrote that post. It says you'll pay "$1 per extra 1TB", which is like $0.50 for the full blockchain.
1022  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [CHALLENGE] Run A Bitcoin Node: 14 Days To 14 Merits on: January 22, 2024, 06:43:35 PM
I have been trying to think of ways to make sure that all the people who ran the node for 14 days will still run it from now on. I don't know how, except for sending some merit if they show you a screenshot every week. But of course this is just a suggestion.
I can think of many reasons to run Bitcoin Core, but weekly Merit isn't one of them.
1023  Economy / Reputation / Re: Wasabi, Kruw, users and supporters of their low morals on: January 22, 2024, 06:35:20 PM
Kruw is in the contributors' list of wasabi: https://github.com/zkSNACKs/WalletWasabi/graphs/contributors. In his profile, you can see he has forked both WasabiWallet and WasabiDoc. He even reviews pull requests if you check the PR history. And of course he replies to issues. So there is no doubt he is involved in Wasabi Wallet.
Playing devil's advocate here: Isn't the way Github works that anyone can add "commits"? If they're accepted, that doesn't mean the guy works for the project, nor does it mean the project shares his views. It just means he made 7 out of >30,000 "commits".

create an Anonymous  section
That's called an alt account, it's allowed.
1025  Other / Meta / Re: We do no get notification for trust feedback? on: January 22, 2024, 04:34:36 PM
If the user is not on DT, and not on your Trust list, you're not supposed to notice his feedback any time soon.
1026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Generate private keys on computer without on: January 22, 2024, 12:58:26 PM
Make sure the private key generated within valid range. It should from 1 to FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFE BAAEDCE6 AF48A03B BFD25E8C D0364140. Not all software/library throw error or silently perform modulo if you enter private key outside that range.
Getting 31 Fs in a row has a chance of 1 in 21267647932558653966460912964485513216. If you hit that, it's more likely something else went wrong than that it's created randomly.

I don't know how big the list of missing posts is, but it shouldn't be too big.
I expect the list of deleted posts to be very big, and you'll have to check all deleted posts to find the missing ones.
1028  Economy / Reputation / Re: What privileges does LoyceV have? on: January 22, 2024, 08:46:53 AM
I just realized that the troll Shenanigan has been banned from our forum.
Oh no, he'll now think I have even more privileges Cheesy

At least the forum will not have to put up with the Bitcoin SV account any longer if it is a permanent ban (and for a short while if it is a temporary ban).
Temporary bans aren't published in modlog.
1029  Economy / Reputation / Re: Lost My Telegram on: January 22, 2024, 08:37:31 AM
I am not really active on Bitcointalk for a long time specially after getting a lot of death threats.
Report those posts to get banned:
8. No threats to inflict bodily harm, death threats.

I somehow got banned from Telegram
This has nothing to do with Meta, move (bottom-left) this to Reputation. Or just don't use scammers' paradise Telegram.
1030  Other / Meta / Re: I wonder if the forum would be much better without signatue campaigns on: January 22, 2024, 08:32:16 AM
This forum will die if there is no signature campaign.
The fact that you registered just to post this proves otherwise Smiley
1031  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Open Wallet Hangs v26.0 on: January 22, 2024, 08:24:37 AM
Nothing is written to the log file

Any thoughts?
Any chance Bitcoin Core doesn't have write access to the data directory?
Have you tried starting Bitcoin Core from the command line? It may show some output there.

1032  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What is with these Bitcoin blocks? on: January 22, 2024, 08:12:49 AM
Even with NTP, internet lag can cause time diffences between systems. I can imagine that, if the time stamp would matter, it could lead to a race between miners to have a timestamp farthest in the future.
1033  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Generate private keys on computer without on: January 21, 2024, 10:35:34 AM
I will try with few sats.
My instinct tells me that you're about to make a mistake.
Or at least post all the steps taken here, for scrutiny?
1034  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [CHALLENGE] Run A Bitcoin Node: 14 Days To 14 Merits on: January 21, 2024, 10:34:12 AM
I doubt it has pruned at all because at first I set it to 20GB, then 400GB, and currently 500GB.
Why? You'll have all the drawbacks of pruning (like not being able to rescan or import), without much of the benefits (half a TB less disk consumption).

Currently the Bitcoin folder is 405GB so it hasn’t reached pruning yet, and I will likely increase it as it approaches the limit I set. With that, I’m looking at 575GB as you said, which means I have 170GB more to download. Calculations right?
So you have 29.6% to go. That means your progress estimate is too optimistic.
1035  Other / Meta / Re: Save your nice merit records here - LAST UPDATE: 12/07/2023 on: January 21, 2024, 10:27:34 AM
LoyceMobile went to hell 5 days ago, and since it's still there, I'll screenshot it:

1036  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [CHALLENGE] Run A Bitcoin Node: 14 Days To 14 Merits on: January 21, 2024, 10:16:50 AM
Code:
  "blocks": 764772,
  "headers": 826648,
I am wondering how and why it’s already that close but the percentage is just about 82%. Does it mean that about 18% of these blocks to be downloaded were created just in 2023?
Based on your block numbers, you have 7.5% of the blocks left to download. But recent blocks are larger than average blocks, and I guess the progress indicator accounts for that. My up-to-date blocks directory is 575GB, but you can't compare it if you're pruning.
1037  Other / Meta / Re: Find a deleted post that contains a specific text on: January 21, 2024, 09:48:29 AM
For example, msg28533 and msg28549 are missing from your archive, although they are both on the first page of Satoshi's post history.
I scraped old posts by topic, not by userID. Those posts are on the second page, and I only have the first page of this topic.
@TryNinja: considering the way I created my old posts archive, it's going to be a lot of work to add those missing posts. I don't think I'll do it any time soon, but I plan to revisit all missing posts someday. When I do, I'll get you a copy. I expect it to take a few months to check them all.

1039  Other / Meta / Re: Find a deleted post that contains a specific text on: January 20, 2024, 10:29:28 PM
If TryNinja got them from me and has 528, how come I only have 526?
1040  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: List of all Bitcoin addresses with a balance on: January 20, 2024, 06:16:16 PM
I just extracted the data using 7-zip and those text lines are in the result file. Maybe some bytes were mixed (shifted)
If that's the case, write to 7-zip. I just use tar, and it works fine.
