961  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 03, 2024, 08:34:35 AM
Americans were asked to point Iran on a world map. Cheesy
Dumb questions deserve a dumb answer.
962  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fixedfloat is scamming me for 8000+ EUR IMPORTANT PSA! on: February 03, 2024, 08:20:39 AM
The Fixedfloat forum representative have taken themselves out of the thread and that is disappointing. It seems they have not posted since 29th January.
Now you have stopped engaging in this thread, but it would be better if you explain the reason behind it. Because this raises doubts about the claim you are making.
They lied. That should tell you everything you need to know:
The funds remain frozen at our addresses, and when the frozen funds are seized by the authorities, they are also sent from our addresses.
That's not true. You say the funds "remain frozen", but that can't be since you've mixed them already.
The first transaction was mixed in this transaction and that same output was used to sent to another address. The second transaction was mixed in this transaction and also sent to another address. None of the funds were frozen in your wallet, you're normally using them to pay other people.
To summarize: if those funds came from criminal activity as you claim, you've now sent it to other innocent users who now own those "tainted" Bitcoins.
It sounds very much like you only care about "taint" when it's convenient for you.
963  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [CHALLENGE] Run A Bitcoin Node: 14 Days To 14 Merits on: February 02, 2024, 12:35:38 PM
I have a good internet connection and also I have SSD storage type but have low ram only 4 GB.
If at all possible: buy more RAM. RAM is quite cheap, and if your mainboard supports it, upgrading to 8 or 16 GB is going to make a very large difference. Not only for Bitcoin Core, but it will most likely improve your entire computer experience.
If you read back a few pages, you'll see my experience with 8 GB RAM. That's already not enough to fit chainstate, and lead to writing several TB of data to my disk. With 4 GB, it's going to get very slow later on. Check how large your chainstate directory is now. It's going to be 11 GB at the end.
964  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [CHALLENGE] Run A Bitcoin Node: 14 Days To 14 Merits on: February 02, 2024, 09:17:31 AM
how can I speed up this progress any suggestion?
Find the bottleneck, improve that. If you're getting only 0.08% per hour at the oldest blocks, chances are it will get even slower later.

From my own experience what makes this process faster:
  • Run it in pruned mode
Pruning doesn't make the IBD faster.

Try restarting Bitcoin core.
Restarting does not make the IBD faster.

966  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: List of all Bitcoin addresses with a balance on: February 02, 2024, 09:07:46 AM
An example being a deposit address on Faucetpay.io is not in the list
That's because the address was never used on-chain. I don't use Faucetpay, but I guess they use the Bitcoin address as "account number". Anyone can do anything they want off-chain, there's no way to index that.
967  Economy / Exchanges / Re: eXch - instant exchange BTC / LN / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20 on: February 02, 2024, 08:53:24 AM
I wonder why recently some pairs BTC-XMR for example charge 5% fees on eXch when just few months ago it was 0.5% fee ?
Probably because of this:
Code:
Reserves
XMR 0
BTC 88.43136183
The liquidity comes from users, and more people are buying than selling XMR. Maybe the fee trading in the opposite direction can be lowered to encourage adding liquidity.

I hope MrCryptHodl doesn’t turn out to be a liar like LoyceV
I hate going off-topic, but since OgNasty loves spreading shit about me in topics that aren't about me, I sometimes have to. He's been doing this for years!
OgNasty doesn't like me since I didn't pick sides in his year-long feut with Vod, and he really hates me since I called him out on - as theymos calls it - his tacky behaviour when he profited 7BTC from holding Bitcoin forum funds.
When OgNasty says I'm a liar, note the lack of reference link. When I post facts with a links to back it up, that usually quiets him down for a few months again.

How was your week long ban after breaking forum rule 8?
8. No threats to inflict bodily harm, death threats.

Still claiming I stole 7 BTC
As a native English speaker, you should know the difference between "profited" and "stole".

Many thanks for making this available, liked it enough to login to BCT and post for the first time in years!!
You're welcome Smiley

Unfortunately it seems the BTC addresses that I have are off-chain / micro wallets.
What do you mean by "off-chain"? Bitcoin addresses can only be on-chain (unless they're unused, in that case they're nowhere).
971  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I need a bitcoin tumbler on: February 01, 2024, 02:24:10 PM
I have a large wallet that is many years old.
Before doing anything, make sure you understand what you're doing. People have lost most of their Bitcoin through not understanding change addresses for instance.
I assume you have a cold wallet, don't let your private key touch the internet. Keep it cold.
If you now have all your coins on the same address, you may also want to split your wallet up into different addresses and/or even different wallets. That may make it easier next time you want to sell something.

Quote
I want to withdraw something for the first time (about 1 or 2 bitcoin) and sell it on an exchange to pay for my children's studies.
Have you thought about tax implications? Depending on where you live, you may or may not have to pay taxes. Since you're rich in Bitcoin, that shouldn't be a problem. But make sure you can answer their questions once they come knocking.

Quote
I want to use a bitcoin mixer to transfer from my old wallet to a new address and from there to an exchange.
If you send 2 Bitcoin from a Bitcoin mixer to an exchange, changes are the exchange is going to ask questions. If you send 2 Bitcoin from an old address, it's obvious you're a long-term holder. But coming from a mixer, they'll be curious about the source of your funds. What are you going to tell them? And how are you going to prove you got them in a honest way?
Once the exchange is happy with your answers and lets you withdraw, your bank will probably ask you where that $85k came from. Again, be prepared to answer their questions.

Quote
I need the mixer because I want absolutely nobody to know how much bitcoin I have, not even the exchange. Nobody knows how much bitcoin I hold and I have never told anyone.
The mixer will know! So use Tor and all other precautions.

Quote
I have also heard that there are malicious groups that analyze the blockchain and try to link wallets to their real owners to sell this data.
Not only malicious groups, also legal companies do this.

Quote
Honestly I'm a bit annoyed that I have one big wallet instead of several small ones but I can’t change it anymore.
What you can do, is make sure you can spend your money legally in the future. Having a pile of money you can't use must be frustrating.
Again depending on where you live, you may not be the first Bitcoin holder who suddenly realizes he's rich, and never reported any of it to taxes. So think carefully about your long-term plan how to enjoy your money.

Quote
Finally, I would need an explanation of how to use a Bitcoin Mixer safely.
Sorry, I went outside the box by responding to everything except for your real question Tongue I think the mixing part shouldn't be your first concern.

I often look at volumes/reserves. It's common to see XMR (and LTC in a lesser degree) at 0 while BTC is available.
I've seen that before, but now the other alts are almost empty too, with 99.5% of the liquidity on the Bitcoin end.

EDIT:  I bought it.  This should be a fun project.
I was going to add the i5-7600T's TDP is 35W. For low power, I prefer processors with a TDP as low as possible.

I recently measured one of my Celeron laptops, it consumes <4W idle. I'm still looking for a few more spare laptops, they're cheap and very convenient to have around for projects. It beats a VM Smiley

I was going to use the service now, and I just found out that LTC and XMR reserves are down to zero.

This is interesting:
Code:
XMR 0
LTC 1.13449965
ETH 2.259519735715089794
DASH 113.75385957
BTCLN 5.86485654
BTC 92.80798234
DAI 4127.069648502410018409
USDC 236.274917
USDT 11976.050074
The liquidity is almost entirely on the Bitcoin side now. Who's dumping Bitcoin for altcoins?

Of course his funds can be stolen. But stealing them is not right.
There's also no point in pointing fingers at someone who may try this. For everyone who creates a topic here, there are probably hundreds of people doing the same quietly. Stealing is bad, but "be your own bank" comes with your own responsibilities.

If everyone uses properly generated random private keys, all OP does is prove to himself that Bitcoin is very secure.

How do you know if these addresses are produced by a "brain" key or not?
I don't know, but it doesn't matter. If someone creates his own private key instead of using a proper random generator, he should know his funds can be stolen at any time.

Netherlands is one of the most challenging markets to work on, and most big players rather opt out of it than pay all the hefty fines that the gov is giving out in case they catch you. The few big local operators that are there basically have a monopoly under the current Kansspelautoriteit laws, and remote gambling operators are still excluded from most frameworks = but the gov promised that they will introduce it soon.
For a very long time, the Dutch government had a monopoly on gambling with the State casino and State lottery. Later, they allowed "competition", but they had to send 50% of their revenue to "charities" (this was recently reduced to 40%). They also use agressive marketing with massive advertising, by phone, targeted post, TV and more. The State lottery is the only one in which winners are exempted from paying tax. There have also been lawsuits (which lead to compensation for players) because the State lottery was misleading players by advertising with prices that fell on tickets that didn't get sold.
Online casino taxes can be even trickier, I've read cases in which every winning was taxed, and losses were not deductible. So basically wagering becomes very expensive.
As a Dutch tax payer, I can't say I feel "protected" by the current Dutch gambling laws. It's all about the money for government.

If you open up a few of the MGA and Curacao licensed casinos you'll see that no one has your language available and the country is blocked on IP level.
That's ironic, since Curacao is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

1. trying to find if these addresses have a balance and spending from them is considered stealing.
~
3. trying to trace these addresses is considered at least unethical.
Trying to do something is not the same as actually stealing. I'm not worried about ethics when there's math to protect me. If it's unethical to check a randomly generated address for a balance, every new Electrum wallet installation is unethical too. Most people don't seem to realize it, but they're "brute-forcing" 30 addresses! And that's totally fine, they won't find a thing.

It's a different story when checking brainwallets: there's actually a chance to find funded ones. You can bet many people are trying to "hack" them.

I found it!!!  It was in a hidden wallet that was passphrase protected.
For the record, that means it wasn't sent to the same address.

I was wondering if anyone knew a better way of doing this
Yes Tongue
Step 1: Download the latest list of all Bitcoin addresses with a balance.
Step 2: Do this:
How to use
The most likely use is to check a long list of Bitcoin addresses for a remaining balance.
On Linux, use this to find matching addresses (after extrating the compressed .gz file of course):
Code:
comm -12 Bitcoin_addresses_LATEST.txt <(cat mylist.txt | sort | uniq)
  • Bitcoin_addresses_LATEST.txt: the extracted latest version downloaded from addresses.loyce.club.
  • mylist.txt: your own list of addresses, one address per line.
This takes only seconds to check millions of addresses. If your text file has Microsoft formatting, you may need to use this instead:
Code:
comm -12 Bitcoin_addresses_LATEST.txt <(cat mylist.txt | fromdos | sort | uniq)

You can do the same for ethereum, but I only have an old list of addresses.

@LoyceV also has a sorted file which could be used to somewhat optimize the search (eg. using binary search).
"Somewhat optimize" is an understatement Tongue
