3201  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which BTC wallet are you using on: April 11, 2015, 02:15:56 AM
i didn't check it my self, since i love bitcoin- core too mucht, but here there is this guy experiencing some problems

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=980453.0

there are others example

Have you read the the post? He is using Armory portable & external HDD to store DB and because of his bad USB cable, external HDD disconnects and Armory get stuck. Do you call that a bug/problem of Armory? His second problem was already solved by version 0.93 & up which has been released when the person posted. His third problem is probably because of the external HDD. There maybe bugs in Armory like all clients. Even Bitcoin core has bugs. I don't think anybody can built a bug-free software.

I'm researching wallets as well.  One thing I am hearing from some of you is to store small amounts in some sort of mobile wallet and larger savings in an offline more secure wallet.

So might a good practice with Bitcoin be to collect it in a mobile/online wallet up to say 1 bitcoin?  After it reaches a bitcoin, move it offline to the more secure wallet and start collecting again with the mobile wallet?

You can store in mobile wallet as much as you like. You must check your mobile is good enough against malwares. Android is weak, so I think it isn't good to store big amounts in Android wallet. However, if you use Android phone as cold storage, it is okay. You should make sure you backup the files needed.
If you are using a bad/poor client, I suggest you not to reuse addresses. Reusing addresses when using a bad/poor client will put you in danger as it exposes reused R values which will make a person easy to find your private key.

I use only blockchain.info. Other than that, I use my bit-x wallet to collect my sig campaign earnings : )

OK.  That's helpful.  To what amount would you let your bit-x wallet fill up before you "poured" it into blockchain wallet and started with a clean bit-x wallet?

I depereciate storing Bitcoins in an exchange. Withdraw the balance as soon as you receive the payout. If you trade in BIT-X or the exchange you store BTC, keep only a small amount in it for trading and withdraw rest of the BTC.
3202  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NO Miracles in Koran on: April 10, 2015, 07:26:33 PM
Now that's total bullshit.  If you don't even know what's a miracle and what's not, probably better to not act knowledgeable about them.  Wouldn't you agree?

Sometimes prophecies can be miracles too.

A direct personal threat. Not coming from an Atheist. Not coming from a Christian. Not coming from a Buddhist. Not coming from an Amish...

Do you think I reall meant it? BADecker was joking which was more personal and direct. It was meant ro tease and probably more. I simply made another one. Undecided
3203  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which BTC wallet are you using on: April 10, 2015, 07:18:29 PM
=snip=
and armory has some problem too

Can you explain please? I have played it with and couldn't find problems that even Electrum had. Electrum was too buggy and slow when it had many addresses. It has been solved, I think.

Edit: ThomasV told it is optimized/fixed and it will come with version 2.1 . Hope it works!

I hope theres a solution soon since now i wait for my wallet to let me do something, my notebook is working hard, though the process only is using 13% of my 8 cores. The problem is... i got some bitcoins and i cant get them out anymore because electrum is working all the time, showing me a blank window. Ill try creating a new wallet with the brain sentence. Maybe a fresh wallet is a bit faster so that i can get my funds out at least?

Edit: It seems thats a workaround for now.

I finished that optimization. It is already on github, and will ship with version 2.1.
3204  Other / Meta / Re: Who uses a custom trust depth? on: April 10, 2015, 07:15:05 PM
i left it as default, after trying it at depth level 1, but i don't like this whole thing about default trusted members, trust should be acquire with other users not like this

But at the beginning before you know anyone who would you trust? it would be like ignoring all the ratings

i would trust no one anyway, trust rate doesn't mean that user is 100% safe, maybe you don't know but there was a member called Tradefortress(that was also in the default trust) and had many green +1 and was trusted by many..

this user was running a site for loans, in the end he scammed everyone, he used the most dangerous strategy to do this, by acquiring users confidence for a long time

I think TF got negative trust because of his online wallet service.

Recent best example for this is freidcat. He scammed AMHash and he still has a big green trust.

This trust system isn't 100% secure. You must do your own due diligence. Don't trust a person just because green trust. Look at his feedback and reference case by case. However, you can get a basic idea with this trust system and it helps.
3205  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do islam hates people? on: April 10, 2015, 07:10:50 PM
I suggest you to read this interesting article:

After the Charlie Hebdo attack, a Paris imam went to the scene and condemned the murders. "These victims are martyrs, and I shall pray for them with all my heart," said Hassen Chalghoumi (above). He was also quoted as saying that 95% of victims of terrorism are Muslim. How accurate is this statistic?
The claim is similar to one in a 2011 report by the US government's National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC), which said: "In cases where the religious affiliation of terrorism casualties could be determined, Muslims suffered between 82 and 97% of terrorism-related fatalities over the past five years."

http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-30883058

I think your point is invalid, if the most victims of terrorist attack (all) are muslim this is really no sense. A muslim attack another muslim in name o a God (Allah)... this is really no sense.

According to people above who say "Islam is violence", they are thinking that we muslims are born with guns and bombs directly from stomach of mother. Undecided

No, it is not only for you but for all who "watching" this thread. They should prove that all the muslim are terrorists and why the most victim of those attacks are muslims. I really can't understand this theory because I have a lot of friends from numerous Religion (jewish, muslim, hinduism,Sikhism and christianity) and none of them is a terrorist.

Me too. They just don't care.

I pity US more than I pity claimed-to-be-muslim terrorists. 1.7 million Germans killed and telling it was Russians who did it! Shocked Cry

He ordered that these Germans did not fall under the Geneva Rules, and were NOT TO BE FED, NOR GIVEN ANY WATER or medical attention. The Swiss Red Cross was NOT to inspect the camps, for under the DEF classification, they had no such authority or jurisdiction.

Months after the war was officially over, Eisenhower’s special German DEF camps were still in operation forcing the men into confinement, but denying that they were prisoners.

For years we have blamed the 1.7 million missing German POW’s on the Russians. Until now, no one dug too deeply … Witnesses and survivors have been interviewed by the author; one Allied officer compared the American camps to Buchenwald.”

It is known, that the Allies had sufficient stockpiles of food and medicine to care for these German soldiers. This was deliberately and intentionally denied them. Many men died of gangrene from frostbite due to deliberate exposure.

Edit: Nazis were at-least kind enough to give food unlike this US.

What total bullshit.  You use made up conspiracy theories to demonize the United States.

Why not use reputable sources?  Why not for that matter, use the original sources?

Here is wikipedia refuting your conspiracy theory in which the USA was the bad guy in WWII and not Germany.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Other_Losses#cite_note-Bacque_1989_p.3D25-26.2C29-30-3

Historians conclude that, among its many problems, Other Losses:[39]

    misuses documents
    misreads documents
    ignores contrary evidence
employs a statistical methodology that is hopelessly compromised
made no attempt to see the evidence he has gathered in relation to the broader situation
made no attempt to perform any comparative context
puts words into the mouths of the subjects of his oral history
ignores a readily available and absolutely critical source that decisively dealt with his central accusation

Claims are almost equal. Almost half say it is false and almost another half say it is true. Besides, most of them who say it is false are Americans.

However, if this is still false(which I think it isn't), I am sorry! But I think many of them believed it. This is an influence caused by media. Don't you think this will also be used for making all muslims terrorists? This is why I said, if some people do bad, don't tell all are bad.
3206  Other / New forum software / Re: Changing emails on: April 10, 2015, 06:45:46 PM
Well hopefully we can just use the same passwords* but I'm sure there will be a way to avoid phishing.

*Where did theymos state this?

Sometimes search is better - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search;advanced. Wink

To prevent people from thinking, "This is a phishing site trying to steal my password!", the primary method of resetting your password will be email reset. A secondary (maybe slightly-hidden) method will be to use your current password. So you needn't worry about having an invalid email address now.

A valid email address might be required in the new software, though. I'm not sure about that yet.
3207  Other / New forum software / Re: Changing emails on: April 10, 2015, 06:32:31 PM
This is going to be a pain to those who registered with fake emails or have multiple accounts and then need to create new ones just for this .

You are right. There are fair amount of users who use throaway emails.

Isn't there a better solution?

Slickage doesn't have access to password and thus, they can't migrate it to new forum software. So they will send emails. However, like theymos told, we might be able to login with old password.

What about getting a PM here with a link to synch/claim your account on the new forum? I think that would be far easier if it could be implemented easy on the admin's end.

It is better IMHO. I didn't think about this. I am pretty sure a bunch of bots will come with fake PMs. Any way to solve this?
3208  Other / Meta / Re: Stake your Bitcoin address here on: April 10, 2015, 06:11:36 PM
@MZ, @shorena: How could be sure he's not an hacker/thief trying to modify rightful owner address? To me simply asking to sign the new account is not useful at all because it cannot prove that person in control of dothebeats account as today is the same person who controlled the same account on April 08, 2015, 07:01:47 PM!

IMHO to change the staked address he must prove ownership of the first quoted address, with a signed message like the following:

Code:
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
I dothebeats, bitcointalk profile: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=306338, have posted a wrong address (17cJtSjpddMMcuD3n5YodiexwgMwCFfux4) here. My correct address is: 1HNFHfyZ2a1jYju6wJ6mpeae7mVo5qwVeJ

Signed on: 10/04/2015, Friday
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----
17cJtSjpddMMcuD3n5YodiexwgMwCFfux4
<insert signature here>
-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I dont know. I just know that the new signature is invalid for whatever reason. I also think its best to provide a message signed with both the new and the old address.

I agree with you both. When address changes, you must sign with old address and new address. His signature is invalid, anyway! His name isn't in Security log. So he probably is the same person who posted here earlier. However, not changing password doesn't mean it isn't hacked. This can be clarified with a new signed message by dothebeats.
3209  Other / Meta / Re: iOS app for this forum? on: April 10, 2015, 05:55:49 PM
It isn't really hard to use this forum using a mobile browser or Tapatalk.

There is already a discussion here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1009402.0

I'm totally agree with your views, is there a forum API for these kind of APP?

API is available AFAIK.

Needed new features

• Everything possible through the Web interface should be possible through an API. Registration through the API should not be publicly allowed, though.
3210  Other / New forum software / Re: Changing emails on: April 10, 2015, 05:47:24 PM
Probably, theymos will tell everybody to change the email address before new forum releases. So you can change email at that time. theymos also said that users maybe able to sign in with old password but it probably will be hidden.

I don't think you will get spam if you use your email address. Keep email address hidden and you will be safe. I am not getting these type of emails from people. These emails are received mostly by users who reveal their email to public.
3211  Other / New forum software / Re: Fetching posts without reloading page! on: April 10, 2015, 05:42:15 PM
I think it can be easy coded , like a script to refresh posts every X seconds and if return true , get the new posts
just need a little work , and will be a good option , also some users may not like it , someone can have limited
bandwidth or something like this  Cheesy .

Kind Of Respect ,
Bitcoin Boy.

No "automation".

Yes, it is done manually. I don't like automation in this feature.

=snip=
A refresh button or similar, so new posts will be fetched and can be seen without reloading.

I would love to see what's your Tapatalk looks like? it can be used to access the forum?

Official website - https://tapatalk.com/
iOS - https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/tapatalk/id307880732?mt=8

P.S. Tapatalk can be used to access (any) forums.
3213  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which BTC wallet are you using on: April 10, 2015, 05:18:12 PM
I just Wanted to use Electrum as my BTC Wallet, Is its Safe?

It is safe as long as you backup 12 mnemonic seed phrase in a safe place.

Secondly When I was Going to Download It I found these Links?

1. Standalone Executable (signature)
2. Windows Installer (signature)
3. Portable version (signature) (security advice)
4. Note: The QR code scanner is not supported in Windows binaries

From which address Should i DOWNLOAD?

I would go for either Windows Installer or Standalone Executable. I depreciate using Portable version because of security and other problems.
3214  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hacked or paranoid? on: April 10, 2015, 05:12:45 PM
I'm just talking about using where it encrypts over for example public wifi.  A enterprise solution such as many big companies do.  You connect to vpn remotly.

Understood. Neither Tor nor VPN is secure enough. However, VPN is better than Tor when we consider many facts.

Deletion is not as important as it's not for anything illegal.  And any reputable site it gets cookies etc, they will not be of much use hours later deleted or not.

We don't use VPN & Tor just for security. We also use it for privacy and is better to get a logless VPN than others. If somehow, the log is leaked, IP attacks can be expected. With a logless VPN, we can secure ourselves from it. Even a smallest factor may result in biggest hazard.
3215  Other / Meta / Re: Who uses a custom trust depth? on: April 10, 2015, 04:52:01 PM
I use custom trust list with trust depth 1. I use trust depth 1 because most users in default trust list trust depth 1 will be in trust depth 0 for me and people in default trust list trust depth 2 in trust depth 1. A depth is bumped up.

=snip=

If someone use custom trust depth, I think some of them choosing someone inaccurately

People in a custom trust list is the people who he trust. We can't say a person to add/remove people according to our need but it can be done if a person in default trust list add a scammer or a person who abuse trust system.

If you don't want to trust a person who is in trust list of a person you trust, you can add tilde(~) in front of the username and click "update".

For example: You trust Bob and you added him to your trust list but you don't trust Alice who is in Bob's trust list. So you can remove Alice by adding "Alice" to your trust list with tilde as prefix and click update.

Code:
~Alice

Now your trust list will be

Code:
DefaultTrust
Bob
~Alice
3216  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Mycelium Fee Calculation - Anything wrong? on: April 10, 2015, 04:39:33 PM
Hello,

I used Mycelium iOS to send Bitcoins from a private key. I am getting a high fee than it should be, 0.0004BTC or so. Isn't Mycelium's default fee 0.0001BTC/1000 bytes? I don't think the size of the transaction I was going to send is 4000+ bytes. Is there any problem in fee calculation? I am only seing this problem in Mycelium. Thank you!
3217  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Which is the best mobile wallet? on: April 10, 2015, 04:09:52 PM
These are pretty much your options for iOS:

[ img]https://i.imgur.com/8108Nkn.png[/img]

Can't go wrong with Green Address or Hive I hear.

Hive iOS version isn't decentralized AFAIK. I recommend using Breadwallet or Mycelium over Hive. I, however, use Hive as LTC wallet because of the lack of good LTC iOS wallets. ANX is there but it is less secure than Hive.

* Hive use similar deterministic tree structure (BIP39) to Breadwallet, so you may be able to use Hive backup phrases on Breadwallet and vice versa.
3218  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Quick Question about Sig on: April 10, 2015, 03:52:37 PM
Newbie: 50 characters.
Jr. Member: 150 characters.
Member - Hero: 4000 characters.

Is 4000 characters allowed for Member? When I was Member, I got error saying exceeded chracter length but it was less than 4000 characters. Huh

One of the best threads for such questions is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0  Wink

Quote
- Newbie: No styling (including links) allowed. Max 50 characters.
- Jr. Member: Links allowed. Max 150 characters.
- Member: Unlimited length.
- Full: Color allowed.
- Sr. Member: Size allowed
- Hero: Background color allowed

True that it is the appropriate thread.

What you quoted doesn't answer his question. He asked "maximum character length" not "sig restrictions".

P.S. Please give any image or something, it is hard to answer without knowing exact problem(s).
3220  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hacked or paranoid? on: April 10, 2015, 03:38:30 PM
What happens if you use the Tor browser? ....or you can boot up with a Linux OS to test if the OS is compromised. {Ubuntu}

I ussually use a Virtual machine - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine to test things, when I run into funny things with my OS.

Hope this was helpfull.  Wink

Tor is not the greatest as far as security.  You are better off buying a better one if you are going to run though a VPN.  I would go with a professional company.

As far as the virtual machine telling you, chances are not.  You would look for items such as HTTPS being stripped into HTTP version of site.  And web site certificates not being real.

Tor could help you increase security if you know how to do it
But, if you are going to run through a VPN, you should search trustable VPN. VPN could steal your data Angry

You must make sure that the trustable VPN you use is logless or deletes log after some hours.
