341  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: March 02, 2024, 12:36:09 AM
Good to see we won the last picks. Well at least in the Asian total got 1.50 of the payout. I think we're on a roll

Another matchday coming soon:

Well many matches are condensed in a short period of time in the last few days. The Greek Super League will soon be entering in the play-off/play-out phase, but we're at a point where it's crucial to see who could finish first. It's a fierce competition at this point between AEK and PAOK, with PAOK only being first by a single point. It's certainly an interesting year in the Greek Super League.

But let's see what's worth betting on this day imo.

So I'll say that I can't be 100% certain if AEK will win against Aris but I'm very confident there will be many goals as both teams tend to score in their matches lately:

PAOK having 1.37 odds against Lamia sounds good to me.

And lastly, as much as I like OFI, I feel like Panathinaikos is going to take an easy win here. In spite of Panathinaikos having taken a fluke recently, not winning a match that was supposed to be easy, I think this one will be easy for them.
342  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which of these betting Statements Do you Agree or Disagree With? on: March 01, 2024, 11:55:52 PM
I think number four ("Don't bet every day") is a good principle. For one, overdoing it in gambling is something that can be a frequent result from having other troubles in real life. Being depressed, having family or work issues etc... Overall stress can lead to bad decisions like losing too much money in gambling for instance. So if someone can fill his time with more creative activities, it's a good thing.

If one can integrate just a bit of gambling through having a social life and a healthy work environment, it's always better. Having a great support network and things to look up for, then it's less likely to fall for mishaps in gambling such as overdoing it and potentially losing more than one can actually afford.
343  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Future of Gambling on: March 01, 2024, 11:18:04 PM
I think in the future of gambling isn't going to have that much innovation.
It's been a while since I have seen something entirely new in gabling, perhaps 10 years even. As gambling is allowed to be advertised more widely we're entering into a cycle of new people entering gambling, so for them it's not worth it to invent new stuff. Casinos are just reskinning their old games as new, players don't mind. They just spin slot machines all the time without much of a care.

So really talking about the future of gambling isn't that much of an exciting thing to talk about. A sector being too profitable doing the same things over and over doesn't exactly need to innovate. If a few casinos however start earning more due to offering unique services it's going to start some competition which I think is much needed in the space. The only innovations I've noticed in gambling lately is basically in the UI/UX department. But there's only so much innovation there can be in that regard.
344  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Decentralized vs Centralized Gambling....Which do you prefer? on: March 01, 2024, 10:38:12 PM
I prefer centralized gambling because from what I've seen decentralized contracts keep getting hacked over and over. If you check rekt.news it's just crazy.
Also there's other disadvantages. Decentralized transactions can get stuck, or suffer from very expensive fees like on ethereum for instance. So it's really counter intuitive to gamble on most platforms.

Also because of how centralized Web3 wallets are, it's easy to get hacked and not even notice it. Don't forget the Ledger web3 connector hack, that happen through just a github compromised account. It's crazy how weak the security of supposedly decentralized web3 infrastructure.
345  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it possible to inherit a gambling debt? on: March 01, 2024, 10:25:38 PM
This is highly dependent on a country's legislation. For example, in certain countries you can just deny the whole inheritance from your parents and then you also don't inherit the debt.
In other countries one simply can not inherit any debt at all. Other times it can be mandatory to inherit certain kinds of debts.

Honestly though, I don't think gambling debt is as enforceable as debt to a bank. Of course if you deposit in a casino with a credit card, or with money from a bank loan... The casino keeps the money you lost and the bank still goes after you no matter where you spent it at. Moral of the story I think is that everyone should be responsible. Don't go on debt for large risks like that. Better just play with cash you can afford to lose.
346  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: your perception about gambling on: February 29, 2024, 11:49:09 PM
Especially online gambling is not restricted to any specific class at all. Online you can make bets with 0.000001$ or millions. Nobody is going to stop you. So if we're talking in very broad terms, then there's very little restriction to who's really gonna gamble. I think the distinction here should be a bit different. I think the more educated gambler these days has come online. Betting shops don't offer good odds, and the games they feature are not provably fair nor have a low house edge. Scratch cards for instance, which are one of the most popular methods for lower class people to gamble, are a way

But if we're talking about what class of people gets mostly affected by gambling, sure, poor people loose more of their income.
347  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Support, do not criticize. on: February 27, 2024, 11:51:39 PM
It means a lot to have someone you know you can count on. Oftentimes people addicted to gambling have various psychological traumas that are hard to diagnose and quantify especially in countries without a supportive public healthcare system. And oftentimes outreach programs specifically to gambling are also nearly nonexistent.

People in general need good support systems. So don't be judgmental when someone asks for help. Sure try and come up with solutions but most importantly be there to help. This is what matters and this is what will get people through some of their darker times. Think of it this way, if your brother was mourning, would you be there for them or mock them? Oftentimes people see addicts as an easy victim to kick down while they're at their worse, but support to those people can go a long way. But it's really important to do what you can if you care about someone!
348  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eurovision 2024 bets on: February 27, 2024, 08:58:22 PM
Well, Germany has struck out at Eurovision again.  I hate to say it, but this year's entry just doesn't seem like a good fit for the contest.  We picked a decent song and Isaac is a talented singer, but the whole package lacks that special Eurovision sparkle needed to stand out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twhq3S4YHdQ
Yeah, it's not bad, but nothing special. It sounds like song that you will forget after few minutes. Don't know why Germany aren't taking Eurovision more seriously.
I think the countries that have a guaranteed spot in the final rarely bother to send an entry that's too good partly because it would be too cocky, but also because they don't need to bother. These entries don't reach the final on merit so if they want to send a joke entry and get it seen by everyone without having to bother with semi-finals, they sure can. But I think the United Kingdom and Germany specifically, being some of the largest countries in Europe, as well as having a guaranteed spot in the final, usually don't want to be too competitive.

It's so weird and really a shame to see the U.K., a country with such a robust music scene, to end up taking places close to the last year after year. Like yeah, ok, some countries really don't like the UK., but they've also been sending irrelevant songs. Not particularly bad, just really forgettable.
349  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eurovision 2024 bets on: February 27, 2024, 08:08:53 PM
for example, if in this event that the op posted, the majority of countries are critical of how Israel is managing the war and a singer appears with poor quality music, terrible lyrics but which criticizes Israel, then that singer will be declared the winner, if any songs appear singing about global warming, then you will be declared the winner. We no longer look at the quality of music, the message that music wants to convey to society and how this music can help improve society, people today no longer care about the lyrics of the song, politicians and competition judges they just choose the music that best suits their goals
It's kinda funny how politicized Eurovision has been in the last few years.

There's a rule against politicized songs and lyrics but this rule only seems to be leveraged in favor of EU's establishment. In the last few years only Russia and pro-Russian entries have been harmed by Eurovision Rules.

2017 Ukraine refused entry to the Russian singer, ultimately not being able to compete at all.
2021 The European Broadcasting Union bans Belarus for supposedly political lyrics.
2022 Preemptive ban of Russia from the competition due to the war in Ukraine.

Why then shouldn't Israel be banned this year for carrying out a genocide that's even recognized by the International Court of Justice? It would only be fair to receive the same treatment.
Instead they threaten a ban on the song only after it's revealed to be in support of the war... And probably it won't even be banned.

It's fair game then in my opinion for other countries to send pro-palestinian and anti-genocide entries to the competition. Also fair game for people voting for the competition to do so in support of political opinions. It's going to be a fierce song competition in political terms (ironically). However also there's a large call to boycott the competition so ultimately it'd be interesting to see how much leverage these pro/anti entries would get.
350  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you have this practice of gambling during one's wake on: February 26, 2024, 03:31:37 PM
Over here in Greece gambling is considered a serious sin by the church and given that mourning the dead is closely associated with religious practices, there is no tradition to gamble in mourning.

However there is also different cultures for different people. Not everyone is religious, but the issue here is if the deceased person also liked something, then his friends could create an event recreating a schene in his memory to pay respects. I have seen this quite frequently in African American culture for instance.
351  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An Unusual Story that Reflects the Current Gambling Addiction Reality on: February 26, 2024, 02:41:53 PM
Gambling addiction is a real issue and sadly while many governments profit from gambling (even from unlicensed or illegal one), they do nothing to provide their citizens with amenities they need for quitting addiction.

Honestly, any program against addiction in the world could use more funding in this moment. People are faced with very dire situations and if the programs to help those in need are underfunded, outreach is less likely to help those most in need, and also the programs have less tools and staff in their disposal due to funding being lacking. In my country alone a large percentage of the country's GDP was wagered in online casinos, and that's only the licensed ones. Households are being destroyed as we speak, but the government at the same time is cutting funding to centers that provide free counseling for addiction.

My concern is that this will just keep getting worse. Something needs to be done about it. Not only do we need to support our public health systems and infrastructure, which at the end of the day are funded with our own money, we also need to pressure our governments to take action.
352  Economy / Gambling discussion / Eurovision 2024 bets on: February 26, 2024, 02:30:18 PM
Will you be betting on Eurovision this year?

The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is quite popular in Europe. It's kind of an official institution at this point, with most countries of the continent sending a team to represent their country with a song in the competition. This year fewer countries will participate than in other years but still there's going to be a lot of competition.

Eurovision also has a big and very dedicated fan base and those fans often look at betting odds to see who's more likely to win the contest. This year I'm also eager to see which crypto bookies will accept bets on the ESC. The ranking in the final is determined in part by jury but also through audience votes. So people's opinion is really important in this competition.

Here's some info on countries that will be participating in this year's contest:

First semi-final on the 7th of May:

Second semi-final on the 8th of May:

Countries that have already secured a spot in the final on the 11th of May:

There's also a unique circumstance this year where many participating countries have called on the expulsion of Israel from the competition due to the ongoing genocide the Israeli government is causing on Gaza. The organizers however weren't listening. But upon the revelation of Israel's entry, they're only now threatened with expulsion due to politicized lyrics (supposedly in support of the war), which are supposedly forbidden in the competition. So another betting option to look out for even before May when Eurovision will be taking place is if Israel will be allowed to compete or not.

So what do you think about betting on Eurovision? Will you be seeking out platforms to bet on it? Do you know which platforms will be accepting bets on the ESC in crypto?
Any thoughts on who's gonna pass from the semi finals to the final? Who's gonna be the winner perhaps? Let's get this thread going! Smiley

Soooo! For the last match day both of my picks were successful. Cool

AEK won against Lamia

And PAOK won against Panetolikos

Alright, the next matchday is in just a couple of days! Grin

So we'll have to make our picks fast this time.

I'm looking over at the Panaitolikos vs Olympiacos match, with odds of 1.38 for an Olympiacos win:

I think this is a good pick for these odds. Panaitolikos only has 19 points this season so far while Olympiakos has 50 so 1.38 for betting on a far superior team winning is good enough for me.

This time I also feel like making a different kind of bet though! On the Aris vs Panathinaikos match, I'm of the belief that there will be many goals scored:

Speaking of standings:

We're at an interesting point where 3 teams could be contesting the top spot in this very matchday, with Olympiacos also being just 5 points away from the top spot. If one of the top three teams faces a mishap like Panathinaikos did in the last matchday and ended up just getting a tie, we could see some overtakes.
I'm placing a bet on 1.75 Over based on the fact that in the last few matches both teams have been scoring, plus both teams are high in the rankings so they're highly motivated to win.

356  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why People Have Different Perception Of Gambling Operators on: February 25, 2024, 11:58:12 PM
Cockfighting bets are usually unhealthy for those who are not gamblers but for those who loves cockfighting, it serves a heaven to their feelings. However, cockfighting bets are riskier than any low risk games. So one should manage to gamble only on the amount he is comfortable of losing, otherwise he will end up with an empty wallet.

Lottery on one hand, aside from it’s made for charities, people who are betting on it can easily manage their bets and accept their losses knowing lottery has always have the lowest chances of winning. And people knew it already but still try their luck winning the jackpot prize.
Well I don't know. First of all cockfighting is animal abuse. Gambling in and of itself has its downsides when it comes to affecting one's psychology, seeing animals hurt each other potentially to the death probably also does damage to the audience's perception of the world and psychology in ways that are hard to understand.

As much as we like gambling, cockfighting is a type of gambling we should recommend against in my humble opinion. There should be limits to what types of events one can bet on for sure.
357  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why People Have Different Perception Of Gambling Operators on: February 25, 2024, 10:36:15 PM
Some gambling games have worse reputation than others because indeed some gambling games encourage more reckless behavior than others.
Lottery tickets are less addictive because there's a lottery run every few days, maybe twice a week. And if you buy a single ticket, or 100, in the grand scheme of things your chances to win anything are still very very low.

But for example slots encourage to just keep dropping your money in, with a very high house edge still and for the most part no provable fairness. But here there exists a different issue...
If I was the spouse of someone coming home from playing cockfighting bets... I'd roast them for encouraging something so unethical.
358  Other / Meta / Re: Icopress ' Merit Source Application 🚩 on: February 25, 2024, 05:59:56 PM
Precisely because there's a lack of new users with good posts I believe that we don't need new merit sources. At this point in my opinion new merit sources should only happen if less active ones are removed and their sMerits rescinded. When forum activity from new users goes down merit sources should ideally decrease, not increase.

It implies that you consider merit sources necessary only for the development and encouragement of newbies. But they evaluate other ranks in exactly the same way. And it cannot be said that beginners need merits more than higher ranks. Moreover, the forum does not become a less active and interesting place because there are no motivated newbies writing quality posts. I personally find it more interesting to observe the development of those members who have already walked a certain path here, and who value this experience and skills acquired at the forum. For me it is more important rather than to look for newbies, trying to lure them with merit for some repetitive questions.
Judging merit by its intended function isn't something bad, is it? Of course there's also other acceptable reasons to give merit. When there's an oversupply of something we become less caring about how we spend it. Much like with USD. A car used to be 500 USD. However as governments keep printing more, numbers become meaningless. A handful of people have thousands of merits, which isn't a bad thing really.

The odd thing here is that there's a very distinct lack of new posters with valuable information in this forum. And the question that arises here is if there's good enough reason to justify adding more merit sources if this situation persists.
359  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The shocking rate of women interested in gambling. on: February 24, 2024, 09:33:31 PM
What a clickbaity title.
See, the rate at which women participate in gambling is still substantially lower than men.
Match pickers aren't actually an example of female participation in gsmbling. Of such a person is a woman, it's just indication of taking advantage of men's urges. As with any media operation, a match picker online would have other people supporting him or her, both men and also women, but since it has to do with sports probably mostly men. So we need better indications if we are to claim that the participation of women in gambling is increasing.
360  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do You Phase Or Are You Slowing Down Your Gambling Activity When.... on: February 23, 2024, 03:52:35 PM
Christianity is a weird religion.
....

what do you mean by weird? it's not christians who are weird, but individuals who violate their religious rules who are weird. because in christianity gambling is prohibited and has been explained clearly. so when someone violates this, it is not the teachings that are "weird" but the individual who violates this, and it is entirely the individual's fault.

There is no single verse in the Bible that discusses gambling, so I don't know where religious teachers got the teachings that gambling is forbidden in Christianity. The Bible only talks about being in a rush to get wealth which can also be related to other life endeavours including gambling. The Bible focuses more on moderation in anything you do including drinking alcohol. I will not agree that Christianity is weird but I will concur that it is different religious teachers that come up with different teachings that are making the religion complicated. Some preachers will tell you that drinking alcohol is a sin, but this is not the position of the Bible. It is better to read and study the Holy and also pray yo get understanding.
While the bible is not clear about saying things directly against gambling, it's very clear against chasing money and wealth:
Matthew 19:24
Quote
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
In my own personal view most of Christianity is very hypocritical in these things. The bible was very much against money, and yet there's almost no church that speaks out against governments that try to profit from medicine, private healthcare or gambling nevertheless. The pentacle of this ironic situation is that it's mostly governments in Christian countries that implement these policies and still support their local Christian churches. It's a very peculiar dynamic.

I have no judgment for what individuals choose to do, but we have to admit that many things Christian churches turn a blind eye to are very antithetical the even the bible itself.
