361  Economy / Economics / Twitter Crypto head and staff resigns on: November 19, 2022, 01:37:02 PM
Official link

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/twitter-crypto-head-staff-resign-190633380.html

It is well known fact that a lot of Twitter employees are leaving the company. Now the news that Tess Rinearson, who was made the head of Twitter crypto team has made a tweet stating that he is leaving the company. Many other people in the crypt unit of Twitter space also followed her and announced that they will also be leaving the company. What impact do you think this will have on crypto space in general ? I am sure they must be working on crypto inclusion on the platform in some way and now when they have left the decisions will be delayed in this matter.
362  Economy / Exchanges / Can you ask for a refund of the money deposited in FTX from your bank ? on: November 19, 2022, 01:31:51 PM
I saw a post regarding this which stated that consumers can ask for refund from their bank if they made a deposit in the FTX recently. The person who made the post gave this link as reference which is applicable is USA :

https://www.consumerfinance.gov/rules-policy/final-rules/code-federal-regulations/

Do you think this is possible ? Personally I do not think that bank will refund in this case. If this was true people will claim refunds even for the money deposited in casinos which they loose in bets and games. Bank is not responsible for such losses. Only case bank will refund the payment is when the fund has been transferred by error. Like some hacker does an unauthorized transfer from your bank account with online banking. In this case, bank might be held responsible as they failed to protect the account of their account holder.
363  Other / Meta / Re: Not Your Keys Not your Coins Banner Needed Everywhere? on: November 18, 2022, 02:23:36 PM
What if, at least temporarily, the default signature on the forum was set to show a 'Not Your Keys, Not Your Coins' informational and educational banner?  It sounds to me like a great way to advertise this behavior and gain the most attention.  Especially for Newbies who may be confused as to why their posts have a signature they never chose to have.  Maybe that is a better incentive to educate themselves about the problem.

Or is it possible to show this banner under every post submitted by users who do not currently have a signature?  The signature changes if the user sets anything other than nothing.  If an user clears their signature text, it goes back to advertising Not Your Keys, Not Your Coins.

The forum admin already added the reminder. So, what are you suggesting regarding the signature might not be needed now. Overdoing this or displaying this everywhere might affect user experience. The focus should be on conveying the message to those who are keeping lot of funds in their exchange so that they can move it from their to hardware wallets. This will ensure safety of their funds and thus proper growth of crypto community also.

I earlier said that this will have no impact but looks like the mods think otherwise. Nice to see that the voice of a normal member is also heard on this forum and necessary changes are made based on the suggestions being made.
364  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Australian crypto exchange suspends withdrawal on: November 16, 2022, 01:29:41 PM
Australian based crypto exchange Digital Surge said:

Quote
"Due to the impact of FTX Australia's administration, we are not able to operate business as usual and have suspended all deposits and withdrawals until further notice," Digital Surge said in a message on its website.

"Our current priority is to protect and support you, our users, and keep you informed as the situation develops."

In an email to customers the exchange said it "does hold some limited exposure to FTX" and was "working hard to understand the situation as it relates to our users".

https://nz.finance.yahoo.com/news/aust-crypto-exchange-suspends-withdrawals-041232691.html

Not sure if anyone here heard about this Australian crypto exchanges, but I don't like the sound of it.

They admitted that they have been exposed to FTX and we already know what have happen to them.

And if anyone here is not aware of this message from Theymos: Reminder: do not keep your money in online accounts.

I checked the site and there are already lot of red flags

1) It allows sign up on the exchange with a Facebook account. So if your Facebook account is compromised, your crypto is also gone.

2) There is no such notice of suspension of deposit and withdrawal. It is still allowing new registrations. What for ? Getting their personal data and KYC ?

Always do your research before making an account on an exchange. So far among the exchanges all over the world, I only have hopes left with Binance. They have even posted their proof of funds recently online which shows that they should not just fail all of sudden. I can understand that people like to use exchanges specific to countries but this should be done at the cost of security of funds and personal information.
365  Other / Meta / Re: Allow buying pinned posts in marketplace on: November 16, 2022, 01:22:08 PM
You can buy ads, more Info here
https://bitcointalk.org/adrotate.php?adinfo
What I am suggesting is different from this. An addition to current options.
366  Other / Meta / Allow buying pinned posts in marketplace on: November 16, 2022, 01:13:14 PM
Will help forum users get more exposure to their services or products in marketplace. And will also increase the overall revenue of the forum which will help for more efficient management. Many forums already do this. What is your opinion about this feature ?
367  Other / Meta / Re: To comment/post removers on: November 16, 2022, 12:22:01 PM
archive.org used to take daily and then weekly snapshots of the forum's pages. Now I think it only does it every few months.
Do you know the reason behind this ? Is it because there are so many pages now ?
368  Other / Meta / Re: Not Your Keys Not your Coins Banner Needed Everywhere? on: November 15, 2022, 03:09:16 PM
You keep that warning message but that will have no impact. People will do anyway what they are already doing.

Do you think people are unaware about the incidences related to exchange issues where people lost their coins and hard earned money? They are already aware of all this yet they choose to ignore and live without giving any tension of what will happen in future. Most of the people are lazy with finances and looking for shortcuts. They buy some random coin on their crypto exchange and hope for it to become 100 times in some time. They do not care about safety of the coins, they just leave it on the exchange as they are lazy.
369  Other / Meta / Re: theymos; is this a merit system bug? on: November 15, 2022, 02:58:49 PM
Even if the issue is present, it cannot be technically called a bug. Because this cannot be misused to hamper the merit system on forum.

An accepted bug( in the bounty program) is something that leads to abuse of the platform.
370  Economy / Economics / Has the popularity of bitcoins reduced interest of people in stocks? on: November 14, 2022, 11:48:19 AM
Stocks give like 20-30% returns in an year but bitcoin and other crypto coins can give this much return in just one day. At such, do you think that increasing popularity of bitcoin has reduced interest of people in stocks.

I think in some countries, people are really shifting to crypto only and most of their investment portfolio is in the form of crypto instead of stocks. The awareness related to crypto is increasing day by day and this more people are getting included in this crowd. Stocks on the other hand become saturated, people have realized that these stocks are not as much profitable as bitcoins. Also, there are other benefits of bitcoins like it can be used for transactions. This cannot be done with stocks.
371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would the world be if Bitcoin wasn't created on: November 14, 2022, 11:42:42 AM
Since bitcoin has benefitted all of us in various ways so if the bitcoin was not created, we would have not been able to enjoy these benefits.

Let me share with you some examples. I am from a country where there are very less online earning opportunities. After I registered on this forum, I came to know about bitcoin and started investing in bitcoins and made som really good profits. I also came to know about signature campaigns which paid me in bitcoin only. If there was no bitcoin, I would not have made this money. There are millions of people like me who benefitted from the existence of bitcoin. We would have been in a bad financial condition in case there was no bitcoin.
372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I want sell my house for bitcoin on: November 14, 2022, 09:10:29 AM
Do you think it's good that I sold the house then I buy bitcoin with all the money?
because in my own calculations, my house value didn't increase in date year by year. the value is still stagnan, it's different when compare it with bitcoin, I will got 3 house when I sold my house then buy bitcoin with that money in 2018 and sold it again on ATH november 2021.

(I have 2 house, which I want sell it is abandoned house)
If it is already abandoned house, then why are you holding it for so long. I am surprised though that the value of the land is not increasing with time because real estate also grows well. Only in some places the growth in real estate has become stagnant. But if you feel that you are not getting good returns from that investment, you should sell it and then invest in whatever other type of investment you like.

The money you get by selling the house should be invested in multiple venues for diversified income sources. Like you can invest some money in gold, some in mutual funds and rest in bitcoins. One more suggestion is that even in crypto, try to invest in multiple coins to diversify.
373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: thank god for bringing btc back in 2018. on: November 14, 2022, 05:08:50 AM
I do not think we should be happy with decrease in bitcoin prices just because it allows us to buy more bitcoins. This is because of two reasons:

1)  If there is drastic fall in price of bitcoin, it will affect the trust of users on bitcoin. From 60k , now it is at 20k. How will it look like to a new investor. He will think that there is so much volatility and thus it is not a good thing. Thus it will make new investors go away from bitcoin and they will never invest in bitcoin. Bitcoin adoption will be affected because of this.

2) Let us now think of current investors. Current investors who have invested at high levels will also feel demotivated when they see drastic fall in price of bitcoin. They will also feel like quitting bitcoin investment and will leave this field for ever. It will also result in reduced bitcoin adoption thought the world.
374  Other / Meta / Re: The Reason why you chose your username on: November 14, 2022, 05:03:03 AM
I did this because my astrologer told me that if I keep this username on this forum, other members will address me as "Dear Sir".
375  Economy / Gambling / Re: I won 1500 dollars on a ufc fight + quit gambling on: November 14, 2022, 05:00:15 AM
Congratulations on winning the game and getting huge amount of money as winnings.

It is not easy to quit though. Many of my friends made promises to themselves regarding this that they will quit after they won big amount ot in some cases lost big amounts. But gambling is so tempting, that you cannot quit is easily. After some weeks or months, you will again feel tempted to start gambling. There are so many websites and they all keep running promotions. Also, you will come to read the success stories of other players on this forum and other places on internet. As a result, you will also be motivated to start playing again and repeat their success. However, if you have really made your mind, you can do this with firm determination. I wish you good luck in your future work commitments.
376  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A Nigerian Man Won $51,000 in Sports Betting With a Bet of Just $1.072 on: November 14, 2022, 04:55:40 AM
There is a cricket betting site in my country where there is a winner of almost $120000 in every match to first winner. He has to spend $1 for the bet. But that does not mean that everyone will win that amount. The probability of winning that amount is very low. But obviously stories like these are very tempting and gambling sites also use these stories to get new players and increase their revenue. It is important not to get carried away by these stories and spend according to own capacity own.

Like personally, I have kept aside a fixed amount of funds for this work. I never cross the limit or spend more than that no matter what promotions I see. All the gamblers should play according to this only.
377  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Parents And Their Children In Gambling.. on: November 14, 2022, 04:51:34 AM
I do not think that parents should share their gambling related activities with children. When I was living on rent, there was a family who lived near me. The father left his business and was in full time gambling. He was also into offline gambling and lost a lot of money in this. He almost list his entire life savings into this. He had two sons and he was not able to give them good education and comfortable life because of this.

Both of his sons were also unemployed because of this and they also used to part time jobs and do gambling with the money that was left with them after expenses. So whole family was into gambling and they never cared to save any money and then invest it to grow their business or develop passive sources of income. When you have billions, and you become irresponsible, even then you can loose all the money with such an attitude. I always encourage responsible gaming.
378  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are Your Kids Aware Of Bitcoin? Teach Them. on: November 13, 2022, 02:14:26 PM
I think we should not force anything on kids. They should pick their hobbies or subjects based on their interests. You can give them brief idea about crypto and from there if he has some interest in crypto, he will himself do the effort to learn more. By the time he grows up, I am sure there will be courses related to crypto taught in school and colleges. He can thus pick those subjects there based on his interests and demand of crypto at that time.

On the other hand, if you try to force the study of crypto on your kids, they might start hating it. This is what happens with normal subjects also. They start disliking subjects which are forced on them without their interests. One such subject is Mathematics which is disliked by lot of subjects.

Finally, while teaching crypto to your kids, use simple language so that they understand everything properly.
379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Early Is It Now, For Those Who Missed Bitcoin In Its Early Days? on: November 13, 2022, 02:09:42 PM
We are still in early stages and there is lot of growth prospect for crypto. The value or price of bitcoin will only rise from here because:

1) There is a limit to how many bitcoins can exists in total. As we approach that time, the value of each bitcoin will increase because of scarcity. So if you buy now and hold for long term, you will always be in profit. Juts make sure that you do not loose faith because of small swings or downfalls in the price of BTC.

2) A lot of new investors will also start investing in bitcoin with time. This means that the demand for bitcoin will automatically increase which also move the prices up.

3) The awareness related to bitcoin and crypto will also increase. When other countries will see that a particular country is benefitting from encouraging the growth of crypto, they will also follow the same route.
380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: investment in bitcoin should be short term or long term. on: November 13, 2022, 11:16:48 AM
Benefits of short term investment in bitcoin:

1) This approach is more suited by people who can track the market 24*7. Whenever, there is good news related to BTC or other coin, they can make a short term investment based on that and earn decent profits.

2) One can generate profit in short term with this type of investment if he is able to time the market well. The profit earned can further be invested in other forms of investment for more profit.

Benefits of long term investment in bitcoin:

1) There is higher chance of profit with this type of investment. If you see past trends, anyone who has held bitcoin for more than 4 years had always been in good profit. Short term traders on other hand will make lot of frequent trades and do overall loss.

2) People who are busy with jobs or business do not even have the time to follow the market news for making short term investment. For them long term holding of bitcoin is more practical.
