361  Economy / Economics / Re: 2017 was 4th best year for Bitcoin after 2010, 2013 and 2011. on: January 03, 2018, 06:16:21 PM
2017 was 4th best year for Bitcoin after 2010, 2013 and 2011.   You see all beside year 2014 were positive.

2010 $0.003  +10000%
2011 $0.3        +1566%
2012 $5            +160%
2013 $13         +5823%
2014 $770           -59%
2015 $316          +36%
2016 $430        +128%
2017 $980      +1286%
2018 $13585

Based on net growth and not percentage statistics, 2017 has clearly been the best year for Bitcoin with an opening at the three figure mark and closing at much over the five figure mark. Pretty sure the whole world of speculators were talking about $5k~ for the first 6 months of the year and Bitcoin breached all expectations reaching to as much as $20k.
362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Bitcoin Lightning network payment completed! on: January 03, 2018, 01:44:11 PM
Looking forward to using it when it will be available for the public. Although it's not completely 'zero fees' as creating a payment channel and withdrawing money from it will have fees involved, it will be negligible compared to the current miner fees situation. Lets hope this solves most of the issues and then nobody will be able to raise scalability concerns anymore.
363  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Frustrations: Losing Streak on: January 03, 2018, 01:03:49 PM
It always sucks to be on the losing end of a bet but then again you're supposed to take it on the chin and walk away as if it never happened. Even though it's pretty hard to do so, just think that it wasn't your day and take the L. It's common for gamblers to rage bet in these scenarios, in an attempt to make back the lost fortune but most of the times ends up to be a bigger loss.
364  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Why building games on top of blockchain technology? on: January 03, 2018, 12:09:18 PM
The best part of having a game built on or around the blockchain technology is that every single resource/item/gold is accounted for on the blockchain itself. This rules out possibilities of duping and other such bug abuses. Also, in the case of trade scams, the items and account of the accused can be tagged making sure he cannot get away with his act.
365  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Keep all crypto in trading platforms or wallets? on: January 03, 2018, 11:31:36 AM
Unless trading on a very regular basis, swapping out altcoins or trading them for BTC, it would never be wise to use exchanges as a medium for storage. Exchanges are the prime targets of hackers and since coins will actually be in the exchange's hot wallet, a breach would result in coins being lost. I would always prefer storing coins on standalone clients such as Electrum for Bitcoin.
366  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: First Real Bitcoin Lightning Network Payment Completed via Bitrefill on: January 03, 2018, 11:16:46 AM
What do you think guys , does this solve the fee and speed problem ?

All we can do is wait till it is completely given a green signal and figure it out for ourselves. I still believe it will massively relieve the network congestion that is being caused due to transactions populating the mempool and also reduce the fees by a huge margin compared to the current fees situation.
367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Did Ethereum reach it's peak? on: January 03, 2018, 10:09:12 AM
Did Ethereum reach it's peak? Would it drop tomorrow, or would it continue to rise?

Should I keep holding, or should I cash out?

Ethereum is looking at a bullish last few weeks with new peaks being hit very often. With Bitcoin hanging around 15k after its corrections, there's literally nothing standing in the way of Ethereum from reaching the four figure mark. I have always believed that ETH will go big in the coming years and it is always looking evident as prices continue to peak.
368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin affecting the Environment on: January 03, 2018, 08:42:49 AM
Indeed Bitcoin has been affecting the environment adversely and it only gets worse as we go on. With block difficulty increasing exponentially, more electric power is consumed by mining rigs and this in turn contributes to global warming, indirectly.

If you take a look at the coinmarketcap.com chart you will see that the crypto currency market cap is continuously increasing at currently $660 billion! Yes, bitcoin is affecting the environment and you can easily see this in the online gambling industry where customers use it to easily deposit and withdraw to and from online gambling sites. However, bitcoin's dominance decreased recently to only 37% and I assume that it will dicrease further to only 20 or even less per cent. Hence there wil be other coins also affecting the environment.

Did you even read the article in OP before replying with your rubbish? Its about Bitcoin's influence on the environment and I don't even know what you're trying to say here.
369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Etherdelta Token sale, will you buy it? on: January 02, 2018, 04:37:52 PM
And why would they think launching their own coin would help the current cause? It's stupid on their part to venture into their own token while risking the housing of most ERC20 coins while the site has been plagued with security issues and downtimes in the past.

For now, they should stick to pushing out updates to improve the site which is a budding exchange for ERC20 tokens rather than digging their own graves with something like this.
370  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoin prices not rising! should we trade or hold? on: January 02, 2018, 02:47:30 PM
Looking like a hard last few weeks of day trading with prices taking a hit more often than actually going up. Sticking around for the longer run is probably the only way to make any sort of reasonable profit with prices being set pretty high for the average investor. Trusting the future and holding would be my choice as Bitcoin has always yielded my positive results thus far.
371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Percentage of people on this forum who never used their Bitcoin to pay? on: December 29, 2017, 04:50:58 PM
Not everyone in this forum will speak out about what they do with their Bitcoins and with recent price surges, the number of holders has overtaken the ones that actually it to buy stuff. 1BTC spent at the beginning of this year would've been around $1k and try spending the same amount today, it's around $15k. It is evident from these developments that Bitcoin is being looked upon as a high yielding investment rather than a digital currency.
372  Economy / Economics / Re: European Union official suggests that Bitcoin will not be regulated on: December 29, 2017, 12:04:03 PM
And how exactly would they plan their course of action to regulate Bitcoin while there are so many countries in the European Union that have indirectly been active supporters with large volumes of investments with their respective governments knowing of it? It simple wouldn't be possible to regulate a decentralised currency such as Bitcoin in a region like EU even with the multiple nations supporting the cause.
373  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will be the consequences of increasing demand to bitcoin? on: December 29, 2017, 09:31:30 AM
Is there any negative effects to bitcoin if it becomes more popular than it is now?

We're already witnessing a lot of problems as of right now due to the increased popularity of Bitcoin and this could be considered as just the beginning. There is already a massive congestion in the network making the transaction fees skyrocket and carrying out micropayments is not at all worth it. Lets hope the core will step up and deliver big updates to overcome the scalability issue.
374  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Bitcoin dip because of the Segwit2X fork? on: December 29, 2017, 08:42:02 AM
Why Bitcoin dip today, just before the Segwit2X hard fork? Normally, a fork only rises the Bitcoin price.

And the price of SegWit2x in https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/segwit2x/#markets also drops heavily.

Just a short period where Bitcoin seems to be dipping but as usual from the beginning of hard fork occurrences, it will recover swiftly and get back to as much as the previous highest mark. B2X was expected to have more of an impact but its price being below $400 has just caused a very small correction in Bitcoin's price. Expect it to bounce back harder with a bullish few days in early January next year.
375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your ICO experience on: December 29, 2017, 06:31:14 AM
With respect to the current altcoin market, no matter how high the project of the potential is, it is very hard for the token to retain even the ICO price, let alone rising above it. From my past experiences I find it ideal to jump in to buy a token either during  the presale or just after the ICO has finished, when the prices are lower than during the sale.
376  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Best Bitcoin Gambling Forum? on: December 29, 2017, 04:31:48 AM
So far, I've only found Primedice and Stake forum appealing as they are basically communities based on their respective websites. Although pay per post is offered, there is a ton of spam generated as even low quality one liners are paid and not to mention the horde of alt accounts that follow.

The crypto gambling foundation is also a decent forum with reviews of most online casinos but not much happening otherwise.
377  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Price manipulation? on: December 28, 2017, 03:39:01 PM
Price manipulation indeed happens on a very large scale in the cryptocurrency market. While there are a large set of groups working together driving short term pumps on lesser know coins, there are also these programmed bots that do the same throughout the day. Even Bitcoin sometimes falls prey when 'fat whales' manipulate around the margin price.
378  Economy / Economics / Re: How to make a win-win situation for both government and digital currency ? on: December 28, 2017, 10:38:17 AM
How a government can still manage its control over currency and finance without harshly regulating digital currencies ? Can we ever have a win-win situation ? Is there any economic model for decentralized currencies ?

There can be no win-win situation for national governments and digital currencies as the former wants to exert for centralised agencies which are under its control, while the latter can never agree with a centralised model. The only winning situation for governments here is attaining the knowledge of blockchain technology which they can implement to create a national cryptocurrency, an attempt to modernize the traditional fiat system, which again leads to a centralised model.
379  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can I see all fees paid on the last block on: December 28, 2017, 09:50:39 AM
When it comes down to the confirmations attained by the transaction with the lowest fees in a particular block, there is a possibility that the transaction was 'accelerated' by that mining pool. What I'm saying is, you can never be sure about the actual 'lowest' fee that is being paid as it is uncertain if the transaction was picked up by the miner through an acceleration service.

No, it won't
It'll be worse if everybody does that, because it will be trivial for miners to game.

Pretty accurate imo, all Bitcoin miners would flee to BCH or any some altcoin as this is all lucrative business for them.
380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's design is severely flawed on: December 28, 2017, 06:30:36 AM
It's not the design of Bitcoin but the people who are making it look like it is flawed. Rival hard forked coins are allegedly spamming transactions making the network look congested causing a drastic increase in transaction fees, which in turn has pushed users to switch over to their coin. Once Lightning Network is in place, everything will be back to smooth functioning let's hope, and smaller transactions will be the same as before, with cheaper fees.
