These devs are impressive, if you take time to read how they delt with this. nothing short of amazing. They made me from 98% vericoin supporter to a 100% vericoin Fanboy. I have no intention of any other crypto, not even BTC anymore, way to many people in BTC want to hold it back for whatever reason.

VeriCoin wants to bring more people in, go mainstream. Bitcoin wants to remain niche judging by the words of the ones calling to let the thieves have there way in the name of being a tech purist.

I am going to go with the coin hoping for mainstream adoption with a team dedicated to success and community.

Stop your bullshit.
How can anybody trust a currency wich can be reversed at any time?
Do you really think that a normal person will sell some goods for a currency when the threat of a reverse will be here?

How many times was it reversed.? How many times will it happen in the future.

I think the answer to those questions is 1 and 0
Kinda neat.. llike binary.. if you don't like the coin sell it. If you don't have any to sell, then don't buy it.
Simple. Like binary.
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRC] | VeriCoin | POS - NSDI | VeriBit | VeriSend | VeriSMS on: July 14, 2014, 12:47:34 PM
Many people are missing all the team did.

As soon as VeriCoin was alerted they shut off Veri-bit ect and secured the coin from every way possible. Including an unpopular descision to protect its community from a thief. End of Story, VeriCoin is here to stay, and its here to change the way people view crypto. Live with it.

I thought the point of crypto was that it couldn't be shut-off by just a few people?

And once it is out in the wild it won't be. It was the Dev's who decided along with the exchanges, chiefly MP to rollback.
This thing is harldy even out of the lab! FFS We are the lab!

The Dev still has access to the code, and can control it. That is natural, or how did you think it worked?

It wouldn't have happened if the coin was out 'in the wild' so to speak. Like bitcoin.
Which is why anyone arguing here about bitcoin and mt-gox is a fucking idiot, because they are completley and totally different.
IF you can't see the difference, then just give up.
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRC] | VeriCoin | POS - NSDI | VeriBit | VeriSend | VeriSMS on: July 14, 2014, 12:44:02 PM
FRS = VRC

The Federal Reserve System (also known as the Federal Reserve, and informally as the Fed) is the central banking system of the United States. It was created on December 23, 1913, with the enactment of the Federal Reserve Act, largely in response to a series of financial panics, particularly a severe panic in 1907. Over time, the roles and responsibilities of the Federal Reserve System have expanded, and its structure has evolved. Events such as the Great Depression were major factors leading to changes in the system.

Looks like Vericoin it's going by centralized decisions Smiley . Because looks like they will handle any panic with roll-backs and all sort of gimicks .
Those Coins should have been destroyed and Mintpal take a bite from this bullet as they had a lot of money from paid votes they could have easy buyed them back from market and even help Vericoin increase .

But no it rather had a centralized decision of rolling back all possible transactions in favor of Mintpal profit and business . I wonder why GOX risk prison now and all this trouble when he could speak with Bitcoin Foundation , roll-back the blockchain . Fair , right ? And not lost 500.000.000$ of people investment . And those money would have benefit all cryptocurrencies today even Vericoin , who knows at least a doubled market-cap , right ? Smiley

Right? No. Wrong.

"Because looks like they will handle any panic with roll-backs and all sort of gimicks ."

Why? Because they did it once under extremely unusual circumstances???
Bitcoin, mtgox and bitcoin foundation have nothing to do with this situation. Stop being so mixed up.

385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRC] | VeriCoin | POS - NSDI | VeriBit | VeriSend | VeriSMS on: July 14, 2014, 11:36:24 AM
What Reavon said, 100%

Totally right.

mtdspain.. this was an exceptional circumstance. I explained, that given the AGE of the coin, the fact that it's not in use in the real world for buying things.. it's a speculation object at the moment, with a lot of upside. That doesn't change for me. The thief got done, not us.

It has happened 1 time.. once and in exceptional circumstances.

Why can't people see that? Circumstance meant that this course of action was both possible (because of AGE / Distribution of the coin (without too many problems)) and workable.

It's an EXCEPTIONAL circumstance.. that has happened 1 TIME in crypto.

If this had of happened 6 months down the line, i doubt the Dev's would have agreed to fork, and it would have been 'eat shit' mintpal.

But 8M coins could destroy this very fucking promising coin in it's infacy.. after all that hard work??

TOTAL NO BRAINER!! and the right thing to do.

And NO - it doesn't mean ANYTHING for other coins or crypto in general. It happened at a stage early enough in the coins life that it was possible to do..
386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRC] | VeriCoin | POS - NSDI | VeriBit | VeriSend | VeriSMS on: July 14, 2014, 11:20:58 AM

Can you see why the Devs MIGHT want to help Mintpal in this situation?
I'll give you a big shiny clue.
It is about trust in Vericoin.
It's about trust in a platform that has Vericoin for sale
It is about being seen to 'do something about it'
It's about not letting the hackers win.

So....to help Mintpal secure their profits and hide that Mintpal fucked everything up, they now destroy the future of the crypto coins?

No, there should be no roll-back.....never!!

Mintpal dont get anymore or less profits. Nothing changes.
It happened once to one very young coin.. it's age and distibution and the fact that is is a speculation coin i.e. not being used in the real world for real world transactions made this course of action safer.
Mintpal aren't hiding anything.. they've admitted they dropped the ball.
It hasn't fucked up anything.
387  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRC] | VeriCoin | POS - NSDI | VeriBit | VeriSend | VeriSMS on: July 14, 2014, 11:12:24 AM
We agree that this situation looks like PayPal fraud department f**** . Yeah i stop using Paypal for over 1 year since Bitcoin . I have no idea what people say here that PayPal is successful as many bussines understand how much harm they actually do . But did they had any other option till Bitcoin ? No .

Also here is our article : http://247cryptonews.com/vericoin-lack-integrity-bailout-mintpal-mistake/
Not much but we want people to find out how stuff are going on . If i had 30% of vericoin and i have been hacked i bet all my bitcoins that Vericoin Team wouldn't have moved a single finger . We had a few Vericoins , now heading on Bittrex to sold them all . This entire operation it's becoming shady . Oh sh*t can't dump ....bittrex has VRC disable .

Goverment - Bailouts Banks . Vericoin - Bailouts Mintpal Smiley

This is a terrible article. More or less the same shite you spout in here.
Is English your mother tongue? I find it hard to read.
Really.. you call this an article.. the biggest fault you point out with mintpal are that they are script kiddies..ffs.
You then arrive at the conclusion that they are sipping cocktails after ripping us all off!
I couldn't be fucking bothered to point out all the other things wrong with it..

Quote:
"TRADE SAFE & STAY AWAY FROM MINTPAL  – Our advices for today !"

Ok, here's some 'Advices' for you.. If you're going to try to write in English, try to learn English first!

Actually just to come back to the whole point..  if your wallet was hacked? it's your problem..

Fact of the matter is that this solution will have less of a detrimental effect on the market than if the thief was allowed to keep the coins.  Good job on the Devs in how they handled this.

It's amazing how these trolls don't give a fuck about the 8 Million worth of peoples coins that went missing, they'd rather nothing be done and the coin get flushed down the toilet.  This is the nature of immoral humans though.  They love to see people suffer to make themselves feel better.

+1 truer words have never been said.

So wrong.. This are false words. What would have been good is if mintpal bit the bullet and paid out the losses. The thief should keep his money as he pointed out a vulnerable exploit on the exchange. He should be paid for that.  Rolling back these coins is the death of vericoin.

What happens when the lead devs says he was hacked for major coins and now wants a rollback?

You cant just keep rolling back every time someone gets robbed.

This coin is going to be the laughing matter of the day in the press today.

Get ready for some massive selloffs.

Exactly. Where is the line drawn? Something like 30% were stolen so the chain was rolled back. What if it was 25%, what if it was 10%? Who gets to decide where the cutoff point is? And what if it was 30% of all coins but stolen from a private wallet rather than an exchange? Would the chain still be rolled back then?

These are all questions I doubt we are going to get the answer from the VRC devs on. Important questions nonetheless.

I doubt they'll answer.. or i bet the answer is it doesn't happen again. Mintpal dropped the ball, not them.. SO.. nothing got to do with them really.. they agreed to the fork, but it was the best decision.

"WHo get's to decide??
I think if you look at thow this played out.. MP realised they got hacked.. and immediately contacted the DEv's...

So.. my friend.. the decision was taken by< the Dev's.. and it was the right one!!

Mintpal fucked up? Yes!

Was it caught in time? Yes!

Did the rolback affect many people or leave them out of pocket? No!

Who was left out of pocket? the Theif!!

I don't see ANY problem here.. this is cryptocurreny.. it is programable money.. it does what it is supposed to do...

Problem - fixed!

Will you trust MP less? makes no difference to me, i will trust them the same as i always have.. i.e. 2FA and no big balances on my trading account.

If you are only finding out risks in this game now, then you're about a few years late."

used as much as Bitcoin for daily transactions

You realise that any daily transactions are part of this roll back? If any merchants were accepting VRC as payment, they now have to go to Mintpal to ask for compensation. Imagine if Visa charged back 4 hours worth of payments and then told merchants that in order to get their money back they had to file a claim with an unaffiliated bank that they had arbitrarily chosen to rescue. How does this inspire trust?

I think you'll find the number to be extemely low. Sunday.. using one of the altcoins.. how much sales volume you reckon?

Fuck all. Insignificant.. if there are any who got beef, it will be sorted.. security will be improved, lessons learned etc.

Devs and community acted in time to avert a catastrophe = Bullish.

I know the problem was with Mintpal, nobody else.. they will have to improve to win back trust and customers.. and we all move on.

391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRC] | VeriCoin | POS - NSDI | VeriBit | VeriSend | VeriSMS on: July 14, 2014, 09:09:11 AM
No it's not. Not going to damage Vericoin. it's bullish..

The coin is young.. the Dev's still have control over it.. so how in the hell does that mean it is decentralized?? How? If the Dev can change the code, how does that mean it is decentralzed...answer it's not yet.. see OP and under phase 2..

If we had of been in a decentralized network.. and this happened, you'd be 100% right.. but we'Re not.. it was the right thing to happen.

Only one who got burned was the thief. MP will have to audit their security and practices.. which will result in a more secure platform.

It was stopped in time. Rolled back.. anything else missing in that time frame, MP will dig into their pockets and refund the losses... who loses??

Just the thief.. I can't believe you are all crying about this.
What Mintpal did like a joke.

So what? Mintpal hacked themselves now for a joke? I don't understand... did you even read their statement? It doesn't matter anyway.. we are where we are.. and that's alright. . we move on.. we go forward from here.
392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRC] | VeriCoin | POS - NSDI | VeriBit | VeriSend | VeriSMS on: July 14, 2014, 09:04:39 AM
Ok... seriously now people... this doesn't hurt crypto, and nor would no action.  It hurts VRC.

But, VRC is effectively dead in the water now, because the blockchain ledger can't be trusted.  And if you can't trust the ledger to not have mass blocks orphaned, the coin is as useful as dirt.

It hurts crypto because it sets a precedent. If VRC does recover from this then rolling back the blokchain becomes a valid course of action, and that road does not lead to good places.
Hardly... real networks are never going to rollback the blockchain for external non-technical reasons.  Propose this kind of action for BTC or LTC - the community would laugh for ages.

This simply proves that these infant clone coins cannot be trusted.

VRC - It's like paypal... your coins might get charged-back anytime at the an an exchange's whim!

BULLSHIT! No hard fork will be done when the coin is used like it supposed to be. This hard fork isn't hurting anyone except the hacker (are you the one?). It also doesn't hurt the trust in the coin, but it is what the fudders would like to spread. Why? So they can pick up the coin in a technical way so they can earn money from it
This isn't a hard fork... learn your terminology.

What about private sales using VRC?  I sold someone a bunch of gold bricks and they paid in VRC. Now I don't have my gold or my VRC. Get it?  This is horrible and hurts anyone that was actually using the coin...

It massively hurts trust in the coin.  If you can't see that, you don't understand the value of cryptocurrencies at all.

Wait a minute.. what private sales in Vericoin?? You believing that this is anything more than 99.9999% speculation at this moment in time??
So.. people are using this coin for more than trade on exchanges??
I don't believe that for one second.. lukily it is this way and the rollback affects almost nobody. IMO = right thing to do. Damages nothing.
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRC] | VeriCoin | POS - NSDI | VeriBit | VeriSend | VeriSMS on: July 14, 2014, 09:02:00 AM

Be smart. Be safe.  Get all NAUT off MintPal now. And everything else. Not worth the risk.

I'm moved some off.. but I think it's an overreaction to take everything off. There's many fear pedlars in the forums and twitter who have a blatant anti-mintpal agenda.  The twitter crypto crew who attempt to behave like helpful traders are really a bunch of loosely coordinated scammers.

+1 aint that the truth... the last week has been one helluva eyeopener!!
395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRC] | VeriCoin | POS - NSDI | VeriBit | VeriSend | VeriSMS on: July 14, 2014, 07:35:24 AM
Few weeks ago I accidentally sent 20btc worth of razorcoin to a riecoin address.. and everyone made fun of me when I requested the developer some how code something for the next update that would return my coins. I was emotional and was not thinking clearly or rationally and it was a stupid request to even consider asking. I know it sucks but sometimes you just gotta take the loss. At one point darkcoin got attacked pretty hard when a hacker stole a bunch of coins and used it to crash the price of darkcoin. In the real world if something goes wrong, you can't just jump in a time machine and make it right.

But but but... this is the real world.. and they DID make it right.

Would you rather the theif had 8 milion Vericoins or that their heist was worthless??

Probably a combination but I wouldn't rely on Keiser report, the mention of Vericoin was minimal (TBH I watched the 22 mins and didn't hear about VRC, perhaps a few mins distracted?)

More like pump but based on the FIAT wallet, the WStreet rumors and the incoming parties.

Sorry Kev, correction of my own post:

More like pump but based on the FIAT wallet, the WStreet rumors, the brand new radio broadcast and the incoming parties.

Morning! No problem staying strong... !!!

Has anyone been following the #coinsummit tweets from coindesk over the last few days??

Bullish as fuck I say.. even if that is not currently reflected in the market.

Their state of bitcoin report is also very interesting ICYMI -> http://www.coindesk.com/state-of-bitcoin-q2-2014-report-expanding-bitcoin-economy/

I know, i know.. of course they are all going to say bitcoin is great.. but it IS!

I must say, I have never winessed anything in Cryptoland anything like what we all saw on here yesterday.

Wowzers!

I went from buying in, to doubt, to wiat a minute, what if this is all a scam, so many people shouting opposing opinions that it was really hard to see the wood for the trees.
My investment was losing money, what should i do? 'I pulled out. Down 50% - not the end of the world.

I dug a little deeper, and found a few things that satisfy me anyway that this is legit. I will not divulge here.. not trying to start a true/false debate, so I'll keep that off here.

Anway.. bought back in lower and ended up with more Uro than i originally had. I am satisfied for now that this is no scam. I bought more this morning.

Ok, so that's my story and who cares. My original point was that this thread has been a real eyeopener for me!

I had no idea of the pure madness going on. It was like being in a room full of screaming children. No, really. Fascinating and disgusting at the same time.

Have a good day! Cheesy
