That was the only explanation I was able to find when used "rm -rf /..." as a search query.

After I published my post I have seen that this command is changed a few times in different comments but was too late and already published.

rm  is remove command.
-r   option means run the command "recursively". ( it will remove the directories even they have sub directories)
-f   option mean "force" . It will not ask for any confirmation for deleting.
/    is "root" directory.(it is the start of every directory)

so "rm -rf /" means that you just want to wipe out everything from your system.

Best way to learn about the unix command is to type "man <command name>" in your unix console.

Currently I am not in unix system so I took the help from this page.
383  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Best blockchain to build dapps on?? on: April 22, 2019, 10:35:16 AM
Doesn't anyone here build dapps / smart contracts on Bitcoin?

There is Simple Ledger Protocol for example for Bitcoin Cash: https://simpleledger.cash/

I guess you cannot create smart contracts directly in btc blockchain, But it can be created by using RSK.
The time taken to mine a block in bitcoin and number of transaction that can be supported per block does not make it suitable candidate for dapps.
384  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Two things: best forum software? And... Admins needed on: April 22, 2019, 10:09:26 AM
Second, are there any admin volunteers who would work for free until we start earning revenue?

Thoughts?

Are you looking admin for your gaming site?
I am very addicted to games and will like to join with your game project. But I cannot commit full time , so I will like to check 1or 2 hours daily before you get revenue and can appoint a paid admin.
385  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Netflix for fruits and veggies on: April 22, 2019, 09:18:46 AM
Hello everyone guys!

We have a big update:

- At the request of users, the price starts from $ 15
- Create your own box yourself - Fruit and vegetable costing machine started its work
- Integrated the most convenient delivery of UPS
- Connected 16 farms in New Jersey and New York
- Connected quality control partners
- Create unique tokens from customers within the system
- We have created a self-learning algorithm that remembers people's tastes and offers the right vegetables and fruits on their own.

All this became available today, please test here https://GetVegetable.com

Thank you
Alexey and GetVegetable Team

You still dodging the blockchain question.
I see you are selling vegetables in per peice, instead of per lb. And charging $1.2 for a tomato and $.49 for a potato is just insane when you have separate $15 shipping fees.
386  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Looking for help from bounty managers on: April 22, 2019, 09:09:33 AM
Op says "Looking for partners". It simply means it is not a paid job. They might pay you with their abundant supply of token (sahreholder model) or might be they pay you some commission or might be you will not get paid at all.

387  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Cryptocurrency & Blockchain Newsletter on: April 22, 2019, 08:59:47 AM
~we are getting a good daily subscriber rate for the last 3 weeks, people interested in the service are there and the numbers add up.

No matter how much subscribers you got, in my opinion, the business models are not sustainable. As you stated the main purposes of your project is newsletter. I don't think it will be long lasting if your goal is to make a solution about the bloated news and blog sites instead of competing to them. Adding an archive section things wouldn't change a things, people just want to see the news, not being 'forced' to put an email address.

I am also wondering the same after visiting the site. How they are going to generate the revenue?
Is there any fees for the newsletter?
388  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NK State media: NK tested a "tactical guided weapon" on: April 22, 2019, 07:51:09 AM
Do you believe in NK media. I have read earlier that their state media broadcast  that their King is no earthly man and do not pass shit.
Did you believed in that shit story too?
389  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Notre Dame destroyed by fire on: April 22, 2019, 07:46:35 AM
Building is often more important than human life. It seems you don't understand that human life isn't precious at all. It's very cheap. Humans reproduce pretty fast and 99% of them are patheticly identical. There is nothing precious in human life.

Sometimes though, humans manage to do extraordinary things, and those things they build are precious. I would be more sad of the loss of Notre Dame or Versailles or the Schönbrunn castle than of the death of 2 millions people. Because 2 millions human life isn't worth much. 131 millions human are born every year, how can one life be precious? Humans are one of the most disposable resource we have, if not THE most disposable ressource.

I agree that it is a significant loss by fire but your comparison does not look good. Comparing a human life with some building is not at all valid comparision. I am somewhat disappointed also that you are taking human life as "cheap".

I never heard about the co founders of Robinhood and this is first time that I read about them.
391  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC addresses starting with "3" what are they ? simplified explanation. on: April 22, 2019, 05:51:13 AM
Maybe there are other reasons which i am not aware of.

It is allowed to do legacy to segwit transaction and vice versa, so why they put emphasis on Segwit address on end user side?
Yes, segwit is backward compatible. You would have no issues in sending funds from legacy to segwit but I assume there won't be any difference in the weight of the transaction probably. But sending funds from a native segwit to legacy address has problem as far as I know, though I have never tried them.

Same here, I did not find anything in the net that says against it. I just see it as a method for popularizing segwit.
392  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your stupidity is opportunity for scammers! on: April 22, 2019, 05:40:32 AM
Stupidity?  ,No.

It's pure greed. What about fake ICO /ponzi promoters (but not the creators themselves.) They are helping the scammers for few pennies .(I doubt whether they get that pennies from those scammers).
393  Other / Meta / Re: Raising from being banned. on: April 22, 2019, 04:26:53 AM
It goes in Vod's domain but you are clearly breaking the rules.
You have created your service thread and you are continually posting on your service thread here

No idea why Vod wasted his time in tagging you because you are again going to be banned for ban evasion.
394  Other / Meta / Re: Meriting people over 1k merit on: April 22, 2019, 04:09:31 AM
Yes, go ahead to merit anything that you think deserves Merit. Circulation of Merit is an important phenomenon , though you can lower the standards for lower rank but giving it to undeserved defeats the purpose.

Let me ask a question to you?

Suppose company A is making good quality  products  and doing well in balance sheet. In other hand product quality of B is inferior and it charges same as company A. Company B is also struggling financially.

Will you now buy the company B products because it is struggling?
395  Other / Meta / Re: The problem begins and ends with YOU. on: April 22, 2019, 03:56:02 AM
Signature campaigns
So I wanted to start out with the most obvious and worn out issue that continues to plague this forum. Signature Campaigns are advertisements plain and simple, they can buy your content and have their ad placed 300 different places for $30 a month.

Some of the campaigns are just giving the tokens so it is not worth of $30 dollar.
Whom do you think responsible for this shit show?  Forum or users?
(I snipped that part but my guess is you are agreeing with users)

The marketplace

This problem has and always will be around forever, the prevalence of scamming in the online world is shocking. However, this is one of the worse forums when it comes to marketplaces. Many like the blame the moderation of the forum but that is hardly the problem.

You clearly know who is in fault here.

Misuse of trust

I often agree that 90% of the time they are scammers (and should definitely be tagged), you need to be careful. Tagging someone as a Newbie can completely ruin their chances of ever being able to have a decent experience on the forum.

Frankly speaking, whom you are considering newbies here , in reality they are seasoned scammers. From the very post they know where the lending section/other intricacies of the forum. Anybody want to have a decent experience, first need to observe things and I find very rare examples where users are really paying attention to stickies and rules.

General toxicity
Related to the all to common misuse of trust, toxicity is another huge problem I see on this forum particularly. I understand this mostly has to do with the generation of people who use this forum and the views they have, but that doesn't have to play into every conversation.
I can agree that forum suspect anybody that is new to the forum but I guess you will understand this behavior if you spend some more time here.

Lack of content, and incentive thereof

Nopes, but you need skills to find/filter the content of your need

Automatic hate towards newcomers
Read my previous answer in "General Toxicity"

Rank holds too much importance
Only if you want to participate in Sig. campaigns

Lack of proper reports, moderation and initiative
I did not understand the gist of your text. Do you mean to say that "Report to Moderator" does not work?

Favoritism and entitlement
There is no favoritism. Even legendary accounts get permabanned for breaking the rules (most common plagiarism.)

Lack of updates and new integration
+1  here, Though epochtalk is in pipeline but I can agree with you till it go live.

While the lack of newcomers doesn't help the forum I think this is one of the main reasons BitcoinTalk continues to fall behind similar websites. This forum was made over a decade a go and it still looks and feels like it. Yea I kind of like the theme honestly but it's far behind contemporary websites.
Forum administration is not very much interested in generating money from the forum and that is purpose of all the forum you are describing here.

Now I will like to add few things that you did not added.
1. You can get honest opinion in this forum for free.
2.Forum is not at all biased for anything. You are free to endorse your product (if it not illegal and not breaking forum rules). Forum does not give any ratings to anybody (that most of the contemporary website do for money)

I guess , you had not spent enough time in forum and you will gradually understand things.
396  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Multiple Bomb blasts in Srilanka - churches and hotel. on: April 21, 2019, 05:31:56 PM
So look like that religious places are the target of the terrorist now. Every religion says that it's basic essence is spreading love, peace, harmony and truthfulness but in reality it look like religion is used to spread hatred ,violence and brainwashing people.

My condolences for the victims and hope that guilty will be punished.
397  Other / Meta / Re: Leave negative feedback for Yobit spamming? on: April 21, 2019, 05:10:15 PM
All campaigns that require a certain amount of post each week could be seen as adding more spam  to this forum, Yobit campaign is paying people without the need to reach a certain amount of posts how great is that. They also never said that you should post the max amount of post they are willing to pay and when Yobit did announce the relaunch of the signature they directly added some extra rules to this campaign so they did thought about the problems from the last signature campaign.

When some accounts just woke up to post for Yobit ,then it simply means they are financially motivated. Few of the spammer are already earning in this campaign.  Feel free to read [FABLE] The Resurrection of YoBit and tell me how many of the spammers are now thrown out of Yobit campaign for spamming .
398  Other / Meta / Re: hacked account Spamming yobit sig on: April 21, 2019, 04:54:17 PM
what's wrong with yo u guys, what i am doing wrong? what rule i break?

It is not about any rule breaking, if you broke the rule then forum moderator have dealt it.

I am not finding any good analogy but  let me still try.

Case 1: Suppose you are travelling in a train and sitting on seat reserved for handicapped person. A handicapped person boarded the train and asked you to vacate the seat but you refute. You broke the rule and you will be fined as per the rules.

Case 2: Suppose you are travelling in a train and sitting on unreserved seat.A handicapped person boarded the train and did not find any seat. That handicapped person requested you for a seat and you refuted it. You see , you did not break any rule but fellow passenger
just developed the strong disliking for you. You will not be fined as per rule but you will clearly see that fellow passenger have now disregards for you.

You are just fitting in second case.
399  Other / Meta / Re: hacked account Spamming yobit sig on: April 21, 2019, 04:41:13 PM
Alright Ill come clean Account selling is legal I think? but, I sold him the account but Im pissed he scammed me and owes me $60 in btc. He just stopped responding after he changed the pass.  I gave him the info and the address keys.   Teaches me to never deal with someone on this forum again,
Glad to see that you got scam during sell bitcointalk account. And obviously you deserve it in my opinion. Look like account change hand multiple times. Most likely hacked account. However we can't tag any account without proper evidence. Just verbally explanation isn't enough proof to tag any account. If you gave him address key info then sign a message from that. Hope it would help to tag that account.

Hello, I bought this account for $200 some months ago, to buy accounts isn't illegal on this forum, and the OP first say the account was hacked and now he say he sold it. I still in touch with the seller and i know he wouldn't scam some one for $60.

If the OP want the account back i want to recover my $200. I'm open to negotiation.

For me this is pure business and not more, my identity and the seller identity will stay anon, and while OP can't sign a transaction to prove what he is saying then he is lying.

I see many accounts tagged by DT because of encouraging buying and selling account which I totally agree with. And because of that see what happened to your situation. This situation getting complicated now.

Who's telling the truth and who's the lier between this two?

But I agree with OP should signed an old address with this mentioned account.

Edit: Much better if they both side will signed an old address posted this account.

I don't think signing of message is now required. (because accused already admitted buying the account and it does not really mattered whether OP really sold it to accused or somebody else sold it).
Vesperion already confessed account buying . It now depend upon DT users whether they take this "self admittance" as honest approach and do not tag it or on contrary they took "self admittance" as proof (or evidence) and feel free to tag them.

Pardon my noob question but what benefit Campaign managers are having in sending payment to Segwit addresses?

It is allowed to do legacy to segwit transaction and vice versa, so why they put emphasis on Segwit address on end user side?
