Click the link, that makes them pay for it.
382  Economy / Economics / Re: How is the cost of living in your country? on: January 19, 2023, 08:40:34 PM
Petrol is over $2.10 a litre and my water and electricity bills have also increased by about 15%.
You have no idea how lucky you are Wink

Here electricity prices went up about 2000%, although it dropped like three quarters again. It's still very high.
383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Storing Bitcoin about 20 years and is offline paper wallet (Bitaddress) secure? on: January 19, 2023, 06:49:16 PM
I like how thorough you are, but I think you're over complicating things and putting too much long term trust in flash cards.

LoyceV: read this from desktop!

To start:
Don't make up your own seed words, it won't make it safer but increases the risk of messing up.
Whatever you choose, test it with a small amount and see if you can recover your coins before funding more.
384  Other / Meta / Re: Bounty spammer meets AI Chat generator. Can they be banned on the spot? on: January 19, 2023, 12:02:09 PM
I found another user that looks like a generic chat generator spammer:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3524806;sa=showPosts

Typically, it adds as much words or phrases as possible to make the post or message sound longer and better. << See what i did there?

It's more annoying that normal shitposts because it takes more time to notice.
385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper wallet for BTC used to be the best on: January 19, 2023, 10:34:48 AM
So IMO it's safer to hand write a private key than to print it.
Years ago, someone sent me his hand-written (XLM) private key. He missed several characters, and there are enough other mistakes to make all my attempts to brute-force it fail. Seed words were created to write them down, writing down private keys is risky.

Don't you think an USB stick with a physical write protection switch could be used instead of a DVD?
Sure, but I've never seen one in real life. A normal USB stick will work too, but a DVD makes it much easier to be absolutely sure nothing can be stored.

Bitcoin is supposed to help unbanked people
I don't think that was ever the goal. From Bitcoin's perspective, being unbanked isn't the problem, it's the solution.

(they are 1.5 billion according to the World Bank)
There are only 43 million funded Bitcoin addresses. On-chain Bitcoin can't help all of them.
386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs CBDC - Print your own stickers on: January 18, 2023, 05:17:16 PM
Governments and countries around the world are working hard to implement CBDC as fast as they can and they are getting serious about it.
ECB is indeed working "as fast as they can", which means they've spent years debating whether or not they'll do it, and as far as I know they're currently in the "investigation" phase which will take years again.

It's kinda funny, central banks are dinosaurs and know they have to do something, before they're too late and nobody wants them anymore. They also don't want to get rid of all their rich banker friends, so there's still a role for traditional bank accounts in their plans. And they want to add the ultimate control to their token.

But none of it matters. It's just another form of inflationary fiat money, controlled by unelected people. Same old, same old.
387  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambler Loses 1.4 million USD in a bet with lower than 1.01 odds! on: January 18, 2023, 03:17:34 PM
If you bet often enough, losing becomes inevitable.
Low odd games are incredibly profitable for the casino: you wager a lot so their house edge gets you.
388  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: A problem occurred when attempting to sync with the blockchain. Try manually run on: January 18, 2023, 02:09:41 PM
The solution is simple. Update electrum to the latest version.
Before doing this, backup your wallet. If the upgrade fails, it gives you the option to try something else (for instance export the private keys).
389  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is it possible to delivered or received goods by keeping the location secret?! on: January 18, 2023, 10:45:47 AM
I hope by "obvious reasons," you mean illegal, because it most probably is. Laws vary from country to country, but I am almost certain that using somebody else's address without permission from the resident is illegal in so many countries.
Yes, that's one of the reasons.

Quote
And I assume that you'd also be using the name of the person living in that address since, well, you're keeping your identity unknown. This is worse. Although you're not using his/her name for any fraudulent purposes, I suppose this still falls under identity theft.
That actually happens quite a lot here: someone orders something online, but at someone else's address. After delivery, they just go there and say they made a mistake with the house number. Many webshops allow you to pay later, and the receiving address will get the bill.

I think I'd better ask for permission.
You can't be anonymous if you ask permission.
390  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How secure is a brain wallet with a randomly generated password? on: January 18, 2023, 10:20:43 AM
No. I think you risk losing your funds. This isn't a brain wallet, how are you going to remember the random seed? The warp-site isn't the problem, your interpretation is.
If you want to print a QR-code, why not use BIP38 encryption? I wouldn't show it off though, just like you don't leave a pile of cash on the table to impress visitors.
391  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please help ... on: January 18, 2023, 04:21:21 AM
I emailed someone called Loycev on this but heard nothing.
My email address isn't for contacting others (and i can't believe I have to explain this).
392  Other / Archival / Re: Mass adoption: Naming my child bitcoin on: January 17, 2023, 07:13:07 PM
This reminded me of a graph:

Luckily for the kids, here there are limits to crazy baby names.
393  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Sportsbet.io took my money on: January 17, 2023, 06:36:01 PM
Why would double spending be a problem? Do they accept zero confirmation deposits? If so, that's dumb. If not, they didn't risk anything from your double spent deposit.
394  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets that work with Smartphones? on: January 17, 2023, 02:01:43 PM
Mycellium lacks basic functionality for hardware wallets: it can't verify the address on the hardware wallet itself, so malware (or bugs) can make you deposit to the wrong address.
395  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I feel happy on: January 16, 2023, 06:40:26 PM
If price increases make you happy, a drop in price will make you sad. Even after 7 years in Bitcoin, it still gets to be once in a while.
But then I remember that HODLing paid off so far and I'll keep doing it.
396  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] Betnomi.com | Signature Campaign | Up to 0.0025 BTC/W on: January 16, 2023, 04:42:39 PM
It's still not working.
It works again. I failed in copy/pasting on mobile.
397  Economy / Services / Re: Betnomi.com | Signature Campaign | Up to 0.0025 BTC/W on: January 16, 2023, 03:16:49 PM
Some changes have been made to bbcode so please update your signatures as soon as possible.  Wink
I updated my signature 6 days ago when you posted it, and just updated it again. But now it's broken, see below. Please check it Smiley
398  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper wallet for BTC used to be the best on: January 15, 2023, 10:12:40 PM
Paper Wallet is very cheap and easy to make
No it's not. Downloading a live Linux DVD, searching for a DVD burner, finding out how to boot from it, buying a printer with cable, getting your printer drivers to work without going online..... None of it is easy if you don't take shortcuts like printing from an online computer to a WiFi printer.
399  Other / Meta / Re: How many forum members do you know by real name? on: January 15, 2023, 08:28:19 PM
Zero. Excluding LoyceV, who may or may not have a real name.

I sometimes wish I could meet people or order items, but I like my privacy too much for that. The annoying thing with privacy is you can't get it back once it's gone.

I would not wish to associate any other name to the personality of users like LoyceV or o_e_l_e_o etc.
I really wish I would have picked a cooler name though. I never expected to still be using my random (girls) name almost 8 years later!
400  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: 1.6 BTC locked on Blockchain.com on: January 14, 2023, 07:23:00 PM
Unless he has an e-mail notification when he receives a PM, it is unlikely that he will be of any help to the OP, given that he has not been active since July 29, 2022.
I thought email notification for PMs is the default setting. It might work.

But OP hasn't been here this year, so it looks like he just wanted to get it off his chest Wink
