641  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fake selling Fake BTC on: June 19, 2022, 01:15:02 PM
I am increasinlg of the view that the "bitcoin" being "sold" on centralised exchanges are mostly fake, that is fractional.
Does it really matter? Banks don't have the dollars you see in your account, and your broker doesn't have the gold you bought. As long as you don't withdraw, the exchange can do anything they want. The moment you have your Bitcoin in your wallet you know for sure it's real, and that's something you can't do at your stock broker.
Don't use shady exchanges that don't allow you to withdraw.

Let's be honest, most so-called long-term holders are right now thinking "I could have sold at 60k buy now 3 times more BTC"
You read my mind!
642  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC is coming back on: June 18, 2022, 05:00:09 PM
Imagine calling 20k low!
643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No matter how low BTC falls, 1 BTC is still 1 BTC and there are only 19M coins on: June 18, 2022, 04:57:15 PM
Not do long ago, 20k was a dream. Of course we're dreaming bigger since then, and that dream in currently in halt, but long term, I have more faith in Bitcoin than in dollars or euros.
644  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Not your keys, not your coins" on: June 17, 2022, 02:13:34 PM
USDC is (supposedly) actually backed 1:1 with the US Dollar. The only reason to not use it if you're skeptical that the company behind it(Circle) is doing something shady or is insolvent.
If I wanted to have dollars, I'd get a bank account at a reputable bank. There's no need to add an additional third party in between.
645  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "It's Better to Sell Bitcoin Now and Rebuy Lower" Twitted by Peter Schiff on: June 15, 2022, 12:52:03 PM
I always wonder why people that publicly say they hat bitcoin, then continue to comment on it. To me it seems more that he in reality trades bitcoin and tries to manipulate the price, since there would be no reason at all to recommend people to sell and buy later again if he doesn't want to buy himself.
Correct. They all have an agenda, and use dumb sites like Twitter to manipulate people.
646  Economy / Speculation / Re: $13,000 is quite possible this week on: June 15, 2022, 12:46:30 PM
There is a huge panic going on in the market right now, and this is a huge opportunity for many who are not afraid to buy bitcoin while others are afraid. I don't think everyone will be able to buy at 13k because that price probably won't happen. in 2018 and 2020 we also expected bitcoin to drop to 1k after 3k, but it didn't happen. Probably won't happen this time either.
But if it really happens, I can't imagine what will happen to the market because a lot of people feel hopeless because the price has dropped so drastically. If people could be more patient at this point, they would see an opportunity to buy bitcoin at a lower price, especially since it's already at $20k and $19k is almost touched. Let's just hope the bitcoin price doesn't plunge to a lower price.
A lot of people also see a buying opportunity. It always works both ways, and it always feels like Bitcoin's price is heavily manipulated.

See this post:
Keep in mind that the very top of bull markets, and the very bottom of bear markets, the narrative rhetoric is all the same:

Near the top of bull markets, the MSM and the "expert analysts" will all give you 1000+ reasons why the markets are going much higher. The uber bullishness hopium is off the charts.

And it often doesn't reach their lofty predictions.

Near the bottom of bear markets, the MSM and the "expert analysts" (often the same ones) will all give you 1000+ reasons why the markets are going much lower. The uber bearishness doom-and-gloom is off the charts.

And it often doesn't reach their lowly predictions.

This is all by design.

They want you to be "all in" at the top (because greed), and "all out" at the bottom (because fear).
647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Crypto Winter on: June 14, 2022, 04:28:14 PM
20.8x from the bottom seems small, I still think the last bull run didn't reach it's full potential. After all, there was never a sharp high peak. There's just too much going on with pandemic, war, energy, supply chains and inflation.
648  Economy / Speculation / Re: $13,000 is quite possible this week on: June 14, 2022, 04:23:48 PM
If you're selling, $13,000 is possible right now! Why wait until next week?
Seriously though, if you didn't sell at double the price, why would you sell now?
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a solution to alts leeching off bitcoin's strong valuation? on: June 13, 2022, 09:51:12 PM
Bit coiners community can create a guild or certification body, which sets some rigorous mechanism to review and rate the new projects
Theymos suggested something similar a while ago, when talking about advertising on the forum. Currently, those projects are all rejected because it's impossible to distinguish between likely scams and better projects.
650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a solution to alts leeching off bitcoin's strong valuation? on: June 13, 2022, 02:47:50 PM
All we can do is educate people, but they were convinced money grabbing Defi and NFT was different than money grabbing ICO and Forks. In the coming years, I'm sure we'll see different money grabbing schemes again, and people will fall for it again.
In the end, all they want is more money, but they don't realize the ones who created it are the ones who run off with theirs.

Think of it this way: Bitcoin doesn't care. It just keeps working, whether or not people lose anything they "invested" in altcoins or not.
651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin privacy on: June 12, 2022, 01:28:56 PM
I am interested to know why some people just never care.  I am too tired of the 'nothing to hide' argument and need a real reason someone should not worry about being spied on.  Because at the end of the day, most of us are looking for freedoms and democracy and it makes no sense then to accept surveillance.  To me there is a clear, distinctive line between freedom and surveillance.
Most people simply don't care. It's much easier to hand over another copy of your passport than it is to be the one person to start a discussion about the (illegal) demand to keep a copy of your documents.
Compliance is easy! Dumb, but easy.
652  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Seed Phrase Using Magic Mug Under $15 on: June 11, 2022, 07:44:43 PM
But even that doesn't get rid of the problem that someone somewhere has to be trusted with printing the words on the cups.
While we're on the subject of insecure seed storage systems anyway, you can prevent someone from knowing it by using a chalkboard mug.
Don't wash it though!

653  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Seed Phrase Using Magic Mug Under $15 on: June 10, 2022, 01:44:05 PM
If you make them from four different shops, I don't think anyone can guess you are doing something stupid to secure your Seed Grin.
I don't think we have local mug printing shops, and even if they offer it, they'd probably get it from a centralized printing facility. So that's not good.

Imagine dropping your mug and having to glue your seed back together.

This looks fun for a qr code showing an address.

I'm surprised Timelord2067 is on DT again. That's a good moment to clean up bad ratings made in the past, and this is one of them.
See:
The system is for handling trade risk, not for flagging people for good/bad posts/personalities/ideas.

Although I also find it harsh, our opinion doesn't worth much in the matter. Trust feedback is not moderated.
DT itself is "moderated" by the community Wink

It may be an unpopular opinion but I fear that if your red tag will be removed you may start spamming the forum just to meet your posting quota.
That may be, but negative feedback shouldn't be used against spam.

657  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinGate vs BitPay? on: June 09, 2022, 11:36:07 AM
As customer, i would avoid merchant which only use BitPay to accept cryptocurrency. There's exception when i really need service/goods offered by that merchant and can't be found elsewhere, but it never happened so far.
I avoid services that only accept BitPay completely now. If I wanted them to know my real name, I'd use my creditcard.
658  Economy / Economics / Re: Italy Is Held Back by 2.6 Million People Who Have Given Up on Work on: June 09, 2022, 11:23:11 AM
I'm a little envious at this kind of people. They have the luxury to be picky when it comes to job. They could choose not to work if they don't like the job.
Exactly. It may not be the best for the country's economy, but as an individual, I'd love to have the (financial) freedom to only do what I really want.

Here just around 1.5% of the population pays income tax.
I checked the rates: only 5 to 30% income tax? That's less than even the lowest tax bracket we have!
659  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinGate vs BitPay? on: June 08, 2022, 04:47:04 PM
If you want to check the list of ban countries check this https://www.coinpayments.net/help-restricted
Those aren't the most likely countries to trade with (at least where I live). But I'm surprised to see New York on the list.
660  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinGate vs BitPay? on: June 08, 2022, 01:18:30 PM
It's Coinpayments an option? I'd go with the one that least intrusive for your customer's privacy.
