501  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how bitcointalk forum operates on: August 26, 2022, 08:50:20 PM
Start by reading the sticky threads in Meta: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0
If you have some questions after reading them: ask.
502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How is this 9000btc mistake a donation to the bitcoin network? on: August 25, 2022, 06:05:50 PM
Lost Bitcoins make the remaining Bitcoins more scarce, which makes them more valuable.

Wallets now generally can recover change addresses from a backup, but if you mess up enough, you can still lose your coins.
503  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reference Links keeps getting blocked why? on: August 25, 2022, 03:18:25 PM
It's a Newbie anti spam measure, it won't happen anymore once your account is more mature.
I referenced countless numbers of times when I was a newbie, nothing like that happened to me.
It doesn't happen on all links, I don't know the list of links acceptable from Newbies. I'm pretty sure OP could link for instance google.com.

OP is now banned and is no longer able to post in the forum.
Lol. That makes me want to Merit him, just to rub some salt Tongue
506  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S dollar almost equal to Euro on: August 25, 2022, 11:04:10 AM
What else is there to do but believe in the power of verbal interventions? A sharp increase in the key rate to the level of inflation will be a disaster for Greece and Italy in particular and for the European Union as a whole.
Now they're just delaying the inevitable, while the low interest and high inflation are damaging the economy, savings and pensions. I'd much rather rip off the bandaid, get rid of zombie companies that can only exist with low interest, and rebuild a stronger economy from there.
507  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S dollar almost equal to Euro on: August 25, 2022, 09:14:16 AM
Meanwhile, the interest in the EU is still 0.00%. Central banks deliberately destroy the value of the euro to keep the southern countries afloat, which isn't their mandate.
No. The interest in the EU is 0.5%.
No it's not Tongue It's literally in your own link:

The ECB increased its key interest rate by 0.5 percentage points to 0.0% and plans further hikes this year.
That means the interest went from -0.50% to 0.00%.

I find it interesting that most of the ones calling it like that are the ones that have never actually lived a second in the actual USSR.  Wink
The ones that did know this is just bs.
Yes, of course, that's an exaggeration, but I think you and I have pretty similar ideas about economic policy
I think the term "EUSSR" comes from the EU striving to become bigger and more powerful, trying to decide everything. They don't seem to care about what people vote, and go their own way anyway. And they have a long history of taking really good care of themselves, up to the point where they only showed up at work to collect their daily allowance. Those things don't look good when it hits the media.

The increase in the key rate was carried out as part of the fight against inflation, but the problem for the euro is that it does not work that way. If you want to curb inflation, you must first raise the key rate sharply to a level above the current inflation rate
In the media, they call the increase to 0.00% a really strong effort to fight inflation. That says it all, it's ridiculous!
508  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible for a newbie to send merit? on: August 25, 2022, 08:53:22 AM
and how many can you receive as a Newbie?
In your case: probably zero. Just a thought: stop spamming the forum with hundreds of links to Twitter and learn something instead.
509  Other / Off-topic / Re: Air conditioner on: August 24, 2022, 08:24:39 AM
Good topic to bump: several European countries now don't allow public places to set the air conditioning under 27 oC. The last German shop I went to was uncomfortably warm.
510  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S dollar almost equal to Euro on: August 24, 2022, 08:19:50 AM
LOL.. the EU at this point reminds me of the USSR of late 1980s.
There's a reason it has been called EUSSR by many people (including theymos).
511  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S dollar almost equal to Euro on: August 23, 2022, 09:51:11 PM
Short version: ECB can't increase the interest to the level it should be, because countries in the south wouldn't be able to pay their debts and risk bankruptcy.
512  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin miner in Holland on: August 23, 2022, 04:41:23 PM
What do you pay for electricity? There's a reason it's not viable in the Netherlands: it's not profitable.
513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is this true or not? on: August 23, 2022, 02:17:52 PM
It's correct that about a billion different addresses have been used, but that number is meaningless: it's like counting how many people touched different banknotes.
There are about 40 million funded Bitcoin addresses, and since many users have more than one funded address, there are less wallets than that. It seems like the majority of Bitcoin "users" keep it on an exchange. It's debatable whether or not they can be considered real Bitcoin users.
514  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S dollar almost equal to Euro on: August 23, 2022, 02:14:10 PM
That was thought to reduce the effects of the recession
The opposite is true: increasing interest will increase the chance of a recession. But negative interest isn't normal, and so are recessions. What's not normal, is devaluating your currency and continuously "stimulating the economy".
515  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S dollar almost equal to Euro on: August 23, 2022, 11:28:48 AM
The euro made big news in July 2022 when it fell to the same value as the US dollar for the first time in two decades. It hasn't recovered much -- after an expected dip of the dollar on Aug. 12, one euro is still only worth $1.03. That's down from $1.18 at the end of Aug. 2021, or a 12.7% drop.
I count a $0.20 drop since September 5, 2021 (from $1.19 to $0.99).

Meanwhile, the interest in the EU is still 0.00%. Central banks deliberately destroy the value of the euro to keep the southern countries afloat, which isn't their mandate.

The primary objective of the European Central Bank, set out in Article 127(1) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, is to maintain price stability within the Eurozone.

how my neighbours view me and based on rumours
Why do you care what people you don't know think about you? Let them. Even better: disinformation is great for privacy!
You should only care about the opinion of people who's opinion you value, not random strangers (like me) on the internet, and not random neighbours you never speak to.
517  Economy / Economics / Re: 2022—The Year the Hydrogen Economy Launched? on: August 21, 2022, 04:08:30 PM
hydrogen can explode easily.
Is this based on the Hindenburg disaster? Natural gas is highly flammable, and so is petrol. That wouldn't be my main concern: as long as the storage container can flare off when the pressure gets too high, it won't explode.

Transporting hydrogen is way more challenging than transporting the electricity needed for the process, so if you're allowed to choose everyone will go for 50 km of electric lines rather than 5km of gas pipes.
As far as I know, one of the reasons for hydrogen production would be because electric grid connections are quite problematic in the Netherlands at the moment.

clearnet + Tor nodes that 'join' the two networks.
My guess is most webhosts won't appreciate that, right?
You mean VPS providers? I guess it depends; some of them have either traffic caps or you pay for the traffic at some rate, so I don't think they're going to have a problem with that.
If you're 'leveraging' one with unlimited upload / download that doesn't foresee such heavy use, I guess they could get irritated when they find a Tor + clearnet routing node on their platform.. Wink
I meant the Tor data. I've often seen terms that don't allow to run an exit node. I'm not sure how Tor data qualifies.
My (sponsored) server is allowed 50 TB per month, and I'd like to use that for good for Bitcoin.
519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interesting facts about Bitcoin on: August 19, 2022, 07:19:02 PM
I will stop accumulating them in my reserve. Smiley
If accumulating would help, you'd risk someone else creating the same address.
520  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interesting facts about Bitcoin on: August 19, 2022, 06:14:23 PM
2. Only 2% of addresses have 1 or more Bitcoins
Wrong. 99.999999999999999999999999999% of all Bitcoin addresses are empty (and I probably missed a few nines).
I have some questions about your answer. How many total bitcoin addresses can be created?
2^160=1461501637330902918203684832716283019655932542976

Is it an infinite set or does the number of possible addresses have a finite value? Could there come a moment in the future when all addresses will be used and it will be impossible to create a new one? Sorry for the somewhat naive questions, but I really don't know anything about this. I have some guesses based on your previous answer, but would like to get the correct information. Thx.
Thought experiment: 10 billion people create 1 address every second and live 100 years. Use WolframAlpha to get the percentage of unused addresses. I'll give you a hint: 99.99999999999999999....%.
