Not sure why you guys are arguing..

More of everything is good for Vertcion.  More marketing, more memes, more gimmicks, more development, more tech, more blogs, more word of mouth, more viral marketing.

More, more, more.. let's fire on all cylinders!

you are right sir. let all the flowers bloom.

I wouldnt call it arguing, more of a spirited debate  Cheesy thats healthy.

You are right though, the more of everything!

Your remarks are totally correct. The people decide, we don't. And if you take my statement a few minutes ago, by no later than the mid term, usability determines the value (and profitability for the miners). This is why you could print the biggest shit on the dollar today, people would of course keep using it. Nobody would hold too many DOGE if there weren't any ideas for its usability to be announced... The best way to make it successful would be to create demand for it. If you just put this into the market as another alternative, it is a roulette game at maximum for the Vertcoin to become successful. If you create demand by putting into a favourable position for purchases (faster, easier than other methodes), that will boost it.

I totally agree with your "The best way to make it successful would be to create demand for it. " statement.

I would add that the only way to create demand for it (unless we're doing B2B only) would be to allow consumers to develop an emotional relationship with the product.

Then the question becomes, how do allow people to connect emotionally with what we are doing?

The answer is neither strictly logical nor technical. It is emotional.

We must remember that people had trust issues with PayPal too because of their name. But now nobody cares. Businesses trusted both Google and Yahoo despite the looks of their websites. Whether or not a mascot is a bad idea is only an issue for our imagination until we have actual evidence that it is not. But right now the most successful altcoin has a mascot and smart companies follow and improve upon their competitors' offerings.

Its possible to create an emotional attachment without reverting to cartoonish gimmicks. You mentioned geicko before and i thought that was an unfair comparison. Geicko has been around for nearly 100 years. The gecko campaign has only been around the last ~5 years, long after it solidified itself as a market leader. This is the nature of business. Stand out as a serious contender, gain market share, then work on "hype" marketing.

In regards to Paypal/Google/Yahoo...I remember when they first came out. It wasn't "viral marketing" which drove them to the top, it was the quality of their services. The product spoke for itself. Marketing is needed and is a must, but it has to be based on facts, not gimmicks.

"Marketing is needed and is a must, but it has to be based on facts, not gimmicks. ".. I had to chuckle when I read this. It's all gimmicks unless you're sticking with b2b

would not the Spartan graphic be a cartoonish gimmick? (with a lot less-broad appeal, I might add)

I'm not suggesting we go with a cartoon image. What I am saying is that it is very important we create an identity that has an emotional connection with our market. (After defining who our market is, of course) This can be done in a variety of ways. But on the internet, it's through the visual.

Marketing focus at this stage has to be directed to the alt coin community. Consider this your b2b. Btc has a head start on the mainstream, let them do the hard work. The next gen (us) will follow.

Glad you had a chuckle.

You did suggest we have a cartoon image.

The spartan image is a meme among vert holders.

Our current market is the alt coin community which recognizes the flaws in Btc, Ltc and the need for anonymity. Everything else will follow, and even then, the marketing has to be done in a competent, professional way. Im sorry, but you are not going to get Mr and Mrs Smith to consider cryptos with just astroboy. There has to be a proven and shown economic incentive for them to adopt it. Vtc will do this, because its the superior product in a new industry.

Here's a question.. how do we create the cult of Vertcoin?

One of the secrets of some large companies is that they employ people to answer such questions.

Some of the biggest companies in the world have both enthusiastic workers and buyers of their products. Microsoft, Google, Apple, Starbucks, etc.

These companies all create emotional connections with people. And people pay money to be a part of it. They become passionate about it. They spend lots of money to figure out how to do this. It is what goes on behind closed doors.

I won't go into too much detail (for fear of people thinking I am nuts for bringing it up) but it is something to consider.

"cult" culture comes from the ground up. Concentrate on delivering the best service possible and the community will grow organically. Vtc is a testament to that. Look at where we are now compared to 3 weeks ago, it has grown exponentially.

Im sorry, but a cartoon figure is not what Vert wants as a mascot if it wants mainstream acceptability. This is not professional. It worked for doge because it was marketed to the internet crowd. I would prefer to see Vtc as respectable and serious. Our competitors are Btc and paypal, not doge.

If you don't consider Doge your biggest competitor aside from Bitcoin then I think you're really missing the point. In the background, they are working on some serious merchant and consumer-related things that will be announced shortly. Paypal is in a different category altogether, and Doge now processes more $ than Paypal.

Your competitors are whomever the consumer has a choice between to give attention, time, and resources to. It is unfortunate that we can't pick our competitors ourselves.

Remember when mobile phone manufacturers laughed at Apple for making a phone without buttons? They didn't think consumers wanted it. Or a computer that wasn't black? (How could that be taken seriously?) If consumers want a cute mascot to go with their cryptocurrency then give it to them. It doesn't matter what we want.

The market will decide, and for what we are doing the market is the average consumer. Merchants will implement what consumers ask for, not the other way around.

We must understand that cryptocurrency is complicated to understand for the average person. It's a complete mystery. Yes, we can be serious about it. But I'm afraid we will not attract the kind of people that will actually make the most use of it.

Doge is great what it is good at, and what it strives to be. That is micro payments on the internet. I respect your opinion but i disagree. Btc and vert et al are looking at changing the nature of the finance world altogether.
386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTC] Vertcoin - Adaptive N-factor in Scrypt - No more ASICs on: February 10, 2014, 07:27:25 PM
some points from http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/1xddaq/ideas_suggestions_etc_going_forward_my_take/:

  • Yes, Vertcoin is anti-asic.. but nearly 100% of the population doesn't care The average person doesn't care about ASICs (or even know what they are). We have got to move technical speak out of the Vertcoin vernacular if we want to really connect with people. What does Vertcoin mean to the average person? People care about jobs, money, security... What can Vertcoin do about this? (Much of this is what cryptocurrency can do about it.. in this way we are making people associate these neat features with Vertcoin.. So instead of distinguishing Vertcoin from Bitcoin we are equating "the new money" with Vertcoin.
  • Organization: The first thing we need is a way to get organized. A subreddit doesn't do the job. We need a way to organize tasks and manage time. To see what other people are doing and to see what needs to be done. This should be something like Zoho where we can not only post tasks with due dates (and penalties for being late) but also create help desk tickets for bugs.
  • A way for people outside to connect. Let's take a step beyond what is expected with a coin and really connect with people on different levels. The vertcoin website should be the main portal to the vert world. How about a toll-free number and support email prominently displayed? Most people won't call.. but it instills trust and gives the impression that you're here to stay. It's $5 a month. Putting an email address at the header also makes people feel secure.. to be able to contact someone if they have questions. And how about the ability for them to easily open a support ticket in case they have questions? (This could be handled by multiple people)
  • -The story. Learn from Dogecoin. Why is Dogecoin so successful? Because it is the first coin the creates an emotional connection with people, and makes the difficult seem easy. We need a way to do both. How to emotionally connect? Stories. What is the story of Vertcoin? How are we going to connect with basic emotional needs? Bitcoin? Story. Litecoin.. not really. Dogecoin? Story.. And Vertcoin? No story yet.
The story could be a re-hash of the parts of the Bitcoin story that have worked for it. What makes Bitcoin interesting to the average person? What do people care about? Bitcoin means freedom. Ok, so the story of Vertcoin is we're building a system to make you financially free. We are your heros and you can help us help you!
  • I would suggest the following: 1) develop a mascot that looks like Astroboy.. Young, cute, big eyes, friendly-looking, with clean light pastel colors. Put him in a little astronaut suit. He is from planet Vert and here to save the world with vert coins! He will save the world by saving jobs and making you richer. The financial system needs to be fixed. Vertcoin is the one to do it. Give him a personality. He is allergic to bullshit and sneezes when he hears it. And he likes to dance.

+1, I think we need something a bit more serious, I believe that we need some kind of mascot for Vertcoin, but we must be very careful about what we choose. Remember, this is a very young coin, and we are building foundations for its future now... What happens now in the early stages will decide what will happen in the long run.

Similar thing to what Boris was talking about when he was pushing for some of the tech features to happen in the earliest possible stages of the coin's existence, once you have 500 million $ market cap and the coin becomes known and popular, it's difficult to make significant changes to any aspects of it.

Agree. Bottom line is this. There is two completely different markets we are looking at; Internet culture, and the mainstream. The mainstream needs something that is tangible, secure, and solid. The check mark design which i mentioned in my previous posts is the absolute best for merchants, and 1 has already incorporated it on his website (ref: a few pages back). But a cartoonish figure would not work in that regard. Where it might work is for the "secondary" internet arena where we can make it viral. At the end of the day, we might be able to have 2 different marketing strategies "targeting" both demographics. This might be tricky but its possible with careful consideration.

Ok I just hatcheted this together for a reference point.

30VTC For best #betterthanbitcoin meme. Will put it to a vote.

This is not a winner!   Grin

But you get the idea, and if someone want to make this concept prettier I kinda like the reference...bought a lot of platinum futures last week when I wasn't busy flippin' bits for verts.

PS- For the FB posts from yesterday, whilst you didn't follow directions exactly I have the list and will send out in the next couple hours, my social media people explained that I would be better off buying some good crack to smoke with the money than the rent a page scheme so I bowed to their wisdom. I do appreciate your enthusiasm though and it was helpful to see the idea implemented for perspective.

I like this idea Smiley

Any takers?
I bumped to 30VTC first place
20VTC second place
10VTC third place.

You can post them here and the vertcoin facebook page if mods are cool with it.

https://facebook.com/vertcoin

Here's my entry for it, I can do some revisions on it, if you have anything particular in mind. Let me know what you think. I also have a higher resolution, if you are also interested. Let's go vertical!

This is  great slogan!

Vert, the new standard/normal/generation/order/paradigm/ new foundation (for a better and fair world) etc

391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SBC] From Death Comes Life – The Rebirth of StableCoin - URGENT UPDATE on: February 10, 2014, 07:04:53 AM
Recently? Invisibel said that he would put in his (TIPS) version of the mixing service if Artos doesn't return.  I also know that before that there were other people chiming in as well.

I believe R-T-B is also working on StableCoin mixing service.

He did say that, but he also said it would take a while (ie month(s)).
392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SBC] From Death Comes Life – The Rebirth of StableCoin - URGENT UPDATE on: February 10, 2014, 07:02:11 AM
I haven't given up either. I believe in what I see.

Artos is still occasionally checking in. He doesn't respond, but he told us he would be unable to respond, and that he was specifically only working on the coin.

If he can't work on it anymore, he'll call for another dev team. He invited us to compete with him, in fact.

Hi. Id just like to clear up some of what you mentioned. Ive been following Sbc daily since December and used to have a very large amount in my holdings.

Yes Artos occasionally checks in, but once in 3 weeks is not nearly enough. And the fact that he checks but doesnt address community concerns speaks volumes.

He did not say he wouldnt be able to respond, in fact he said the exact opposite in his "return post". He said that he will be actively engaged with the community providing constant updates. This has not happened. The only time he said he wouldnt be around was during the Christmas holidays. As you can see this is not consistent with an active dev who believes in his project.

He did not say he was working specifically on this coin. He made it quite clear that he is busy with his "day to day life" and is working on Sbc when he can. This of course suggests that he is was working on it as a side project.

He will not call for another dev team, what he said is that if someone else wants to try to implement a mixing service service before him to "go ahead and try". He would not be assisting them.

The reason I took the time to write this is for people who perhaps dont have to much experience in cryptos and are still holding out hope. All signs are pointing to Sbc being dead. It might be time to consider researching other coins. Even if the mixing service will be implemented one day, there will always be a shadow having over artos. He can fix this by setting up a dev team that would inject new energy into the project, but I have my own opinion whether he would ever do that.

This being said, you are of course going to do what you think is best, but I think a clarification was necessary.

Edit: To give a general assessment as to where Sbc stands, consider this. There is already >10 million coins mined. Even though Fedora's mixing service is probably not as good as Artos' proposal, when Sbc implements it it will no longer be unique, which matters in this fast moving market. Zerocoin/cash is just around the corner and has a lot of hype around it.

Sorry guys, im just as disappointed as everyone else.

This is gorgeous. Any word on this from the official team?

we are considering it.

I like the logo in this one more (up-right), because it's check-mark style has good effect on marketing.

I agree with you. I suggest that we use the checkmark design for vendors to put in their stores and sites, and the "emerald/jade" design as the main Vert logo (ie web page etc).

the checkmark one is perfect for vendors and merchants. Its simple, eye catching, and straight to the point (consider a sticker with that by their credit card machine or website). As someone said a few pages back, the paypal marketing team themselves would be impressed.

The emerald one is solid and strong as the a main default representation.

So people are coming to the realization that this coin, while slightly innovative, still isn't ASIC proof as is being promoted. This probably explains the massive drop in price.

Its asic resistant. Asic proof in the sense  that it would be economically unfeasible to go into vtc

"massive price drop" ...After the massive run up, and considering what the overall market is doing, Vtc is holding steady, as it should be.

VTC is not dropping massively in price. It gained most everything over .005 in a few hours and gave it back in a few more hours. And this drop is 1,000% because Bitcoin/Litecoin are getting trashed. It has nothing to do with VTC aside from short run panic selling. The market LOVES Vertcoin. It would not be holding such a high price if this were not so. Find another altcoin that has increased in value as soon after launch as VTC. Find another coin that isn't getting trashed right now. Litecoin last is $17.70 down from $21 when VTC was trading LOWER than it is right now.

Perspective people. If bitcoin crashes further all bets are off, aside from I will be holding 100% VTC still because it is the only logical place to be when the hordes want out of BTC and LTC and have nowhere to run but here.

They have to know where here is though so tell a bitcoin friend.

+1

This coin is the future.

You must have seen the new logo someone on reddit made. It's looks way better than any of these options, sorry to be negative.

+1 on this

Except the "v" is too thick. Why does the logo need to be changed anyway.
