It's pretty easy to tell the true sock puppets - there are people who just post here and then never post again. If someone has less than 5 posts (their post in this thread plus up to 4 garbage posts) they should be removed.

I don't think account creation date should matter though as that would also exclude some legitimate people who want to be a part of this community.
382  Economy / Gambling / Re: Ratings and Reviews of all the bitcoin sports books. Poster input appreciated. on: April 10, 2014, 11:38:35 PM
Seriously why is all this back and forth with Directbet? They really need to stop already, haven't they only been in business for a few months already? Your actually kind to books Peepsplace, if it was me they would be rated a C just like how SBR does unless they prove otherwise just because they are "new". Don't let up because some books do a couple of good things, it has to be all the time.

Also Peeps look into adding Betowi and Sportsbetting online to your list, they also accept bitcoin to deposit and withdraw, they have been in business for a few years. Just thought u should know as they offer 100% bonuses.
I just found out that Betowi and Sportsbettingonline are the same. You can use the same ID and password for both books.

I did some searching on them and noticed that Sportsbookreview gave them both C- grades (though I'm not sure why).

Hi Exo, I don't believe this was posted anywhere but how many EXOs will people receive who were approved for the email giveaway?

Thanks!
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SIM] Simcoin - A Simple Coin on: April 10, 2014, 02:11:38 PM

IMHO a built in anonymous, encrypted decentralized marketplace is the single most important thing a next gen cryptocurrency platform should include.

Sorry, I do not share this view. I think the most important feature is that it works, i.e. performs its core function as digital money.

Asset Exchange is a confusing, niche feature, only used by a minority of users. It's inferior in performance and simplicity to centralized services.

I am not saying it has no merit, but in my opinion it's hardly a priority.

We need a coin that works first.

Well we definitely disagree then as people are screaming for decentralized exchanges so they no longer need to trust a third party web site.

Just offering "security", "speed" and "simplicity" is not bringing anything new to the table at all - it's basically one notch above saying "we have a great community".

There are already a ton of altcoins that can claim very fast processing times. As for the security and simplicity issues you brought up with NXT, those can certainly be addressed in the future. In fact, an article just came out discussing how pretty much any altcoin can be replaced by introducing "sidechains" onto Bitcoin itself:

http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/news/adam-back-sidechains-can-replace-altcoins-bitcoin-2-0-platforms/2014/04/10

I fail to see how anyone would move over to an entirely new system just because it has some security enhancements and quicker processing, especially when there are alternatives that will offer these things PLUS built in exchanges that will allow for decentralization.
385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SIM] Simcoin - A Simple Coin on: April 10, 2014, 11:58:46 AM
NxtChg, will Simcoin contain a built in asset exchange?

I have no doubt that the first crypto 2.0 platform to introduce an integrated anonymous decentralized marketplace that allows people to exchange any "asset" (not just other cryptocurrencies) will see widespread adoption as it will spawn a hundred SRs. If the transactions are done via encrypted IMs between the two parties involved then there would be no risk to the platform itself as nobody other than the people conducting the transaction could see what is being traded. For example, if someone shares a pirated file via a torrent, do the authorities go after the individual or the creator of say uTorrent?

IMHO a built in anonymous, encrypted decentralized marketplace is the single most important thing a next gen cryptocurrency platform should include.

DirectBet - As someone previously suggested, why not just simplify and eliminate the VIP plan, the flexible odds, the negotiable odds and just offer slightly better regular odds straight up? I'm sure the majority of users would greatly prefer that approach.
388  Economy / Gambling / Re: Ratings and Reviews of all the bitcoin sports books. Poster input appreciated. on: April 09, 2014, 10:25:32 AM

There are a lot of good things about DirectBet. I think your biggest advantage is keeping live lines up at all times, not just during commercial breaks. I think that your biggest downfall is that your odds aren't competitive compared to other books.

I'm new to sports betting (currently in the research phase) and I came to the same conclusion after manually comparing the lines on all these Bitcoin sportsbooks. I love every thing about DirectBet, if only the odds were a little more in line with say Nitrogen then it would be the only sportsbook I'd need.

389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXTL: Next Coin Lite - Officiall Topic - Fair Distribution on: April 08, 2014, 10:07:33 PM
Yeah but many brainwallets have a user name like Ripple. My concern is not that we don't have a user name but that the page for the testnet has a space it seems for one.

This is the confusing part - the top field shouldn't be a field as it seems like you are supposed to enter something.

Just pick a good passphrase greater than 30 characters and enter it in the bottom field. On the next page you will see your account number. Any time you want to login, you just use your passphrase (account number is only used for receiving).

Skillroad, this is a bit confusing. So to register, we have to send 0.02 BTC to here 1Ahvxya7hhHftmN2V9rpK7PWpbgYrgteFQ, correct?

Then we post the transaction ID here in this thread, correct?

What is this web site for: http://193.169.244.74:19775/#

The "Click Here" link beside Not Registered does not do anything. What are we supposed to be entering on this web site?

Thanks!

They should add NEM to BTER exchange ...

I do not understand why they didn't add it yet ..

Christ, it's like some people just don't read!

NEM hasn't been released yet! It's still under development.

Alpha launch for testing due later this month. Launch due later next month.

Now that you've clearly presented this information....

Anyone want to bet on how many posts until someone asks for an ETA or why NEM isn't on an exchange yet?

My guess is <10  Grin
394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Was this forum always like this? on: April 07, 2014, 10:49:46 PM
I do put a large part of the blame on Dogecoin. After Dogecoin came out, many people got dollar signs in their eyes as apparently all you had to do to get rich quick was simply copy someone else's code, do a search and replace on the name, slap some idiotic picture on it and market it.

So now we have an altcoin forum where 90+% of new coins coming out are doing exactly this. It is nothing short of a slap in the face to the philosophy behind open source software. Almost all of these shitcoins are not bringing any technical innovations to the table - people are just rebranding someone else's hard work.

395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Was this forum always like this? on: April 07, 2014, 09:47:26 PM
About 3 months ago, when you started, the Altcoin subforum had pretty much already gone to shit.

Prior to about November of 2013, it was a much cooler place to hang out.  New coin ANN's were much less frequent, and there were far fewer trolls.

Personally, I think it's all DOGE's fault.  DOGE taught the world that a cute, catchy name & meme and nothing else can become a wildly popular coin.  It sorta opened the floodgates for shitcoins to start pouring in like crazy.

It actually used to be worse.  You should have seen it before they banned the giveaway/promo threads.  Holy hell.

+1!  My thoughts exactly, and I've been here since 2011. Dogecoin ushered in this wave of shitcoins and turned this forum into the new 4chan, otherwise known as the "Asshole of the Internet".

Thanks for posting that Andrea.

If anyone finds them at the expo (Aahzman?)  I would appreciate pictures of the Fleeces.   Grin

Never tried posting a picture... hope this works out.

Holy smokes - a woman involved with Bitcoin?!  Wink

Just teasing.... thanks for posting those interview questions Andrea - I'm sure many people are even more confident now and are looking forward to the new offerings from Bitcoin Trader! Exciting times ahead!

Peeps - Where is the list of the new criteria you're planning to use to rate books?

Went back a few pages in this thread but can't find it.

Was that post in its own separate thread?

Can you post the criteria in this thread?

1. A heavy emphasis will be placed on speed of payments. Several books immediately pay out after the game has been graded. Those are the books with the least risk involved. Sweat the game, not the payout is not just a slogan. It should be a way of life for these bitcoin books. Bitcoin books have a much higher standard involved than post-up books because there are no fees involved and no need for a third party processor.

2. Grading time. Most postup books have automated grading; the winners and losers are determined minutes after the game is over. Bitcoin books that do this show that they have invested in their software. Books that rely on an individual to grade all games tend to have a high degree of risk.

3. Books not requiring personal information including an email address will be graded higher. Anonymity is a plus.

4. Date opened if less than 2 years. Bitcoin has just taken off in the past year, so it's unfair for one to compare a top bitcoin book with a post-up book like Pinnacle. But it is still important that a book shows itself to not be a flash in the pan. The longer a period of time a book has been open, the better its track record.

5. Limits. In general, the higher the limits, the deeper the bankroll of the sportsbook. If a bitcoin book takes high limits and pays out quickly, it shows its strength.

6. Sports and options offered. Uniqueness of lines and betting options is a positive.

7. Mobile betting. The ability to bet on the go can be important to some.

8. Live betting. The more, the better. Offering live betting isn't easy; the ones that do offer live betting lines tend to be stronger in general.

9. Customer service. The better the customer service, the more professional the book.

10. Interface. Ease of use is important.

11. Whether or not the book requires a deposit account. Depositing into a bitcoin book is a much bigger risk to the bettor, especially since these books have not built up a strong history that shows their staying ability.

Awesome criteria! Looking forward to seeing the new ratings.

Keep up the great work Peeps!
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: April 06, 2014, 12:45:53 PM
It's really not that hard to secure your NXT account, even with the current setup.

1) Open your text editor, close your eyes, and randomly strike keys. Make sure you use a combination of upper and lower case, numbers and special characters. You  must have a minimum of 30 characters. Personally I just kept going until the end of a single line on my text editor's window.

2) Save this file buried somewhere on your filesystem. Obviously do not name it "mynnxtpassword.txt" and save it in My Documents. You can call it something like "en-us" or "random_program_serial". Remove the txt extension so it appears as an unknown file.

3) Your NXT password should be this string PLUS a simple password (such as one you commonly use) that you type in either before or after pasting in the string.

By following these simple steps, the only possible way someone would get into your account would be if you had malware on your computer that was able to read the clipboard AND your keystrokes. Extremely unlikely. If you are truly paranoid, you can use a virtual keyboard instead of typing in one part of your password.

For extra security, NXT should be installed on a Linux Virtual Machine as opposed to your main system.

How about finger print and facial recognition !
Could a keylogger know what characters are deleted and where they were in a password?

Almost all keyloggers capture clipboard.

This will never save you against keyloggers.

Here is a typical keylogger

http://download.cnet.com/Free-Keystroke-Logger/3000-2162_4-75447782.html

Quote
It captures all keystrokes from all applications in covert, invisible mode. Then saves collected information to special reports, so you can view results of monitoring later. In addition, it is possible to scan clipboard for changes (record copied text), and monitor Internet navigation (record visited websites)

What about Stereotype's suggestion of deleting random parts of the passphrase after it is entered? I've never thought of that before but it sounds like it could work. The keylogger would be able to detect how many times you hit the backspace key, but not at which point in the passphrase string.

For security , the nxt client should be installed in a vergin computer .

And I don't want the file wallet.dat .... this is NXT not BTC  Grin

The saving of a complex string is essential as an extra layer of protection. Say you just memorize 12 random words.

1) There is a possibility that they aren't random enough and your account will be brute forced.
2) All it would take is a keylogger to be installed on your system to obtain your password.

By using the combination of a complex string that you paste in AND a password that you type in, you eliminate the possibility of a brute force attack, and the malware would have to be able to read both your clipboard AND your keystrokes. Basically, you are safe.

And yes, you can use either a virgin computer or a VM, so long as it's not Windoze Smiley
