Gox is really treating their customers like fools. Angry mobs with pitchforks are completely justified at this point.

In the meanwhile on Gox:

Quote
Dear MtGox Customers,

In the event of recent news reports and the potential repercussions on MtGox's operations and the market, a decision was taken to close all transactions for the time being in order to protect the site and our users. We will be closely monitoring the situation and will react accordingly.

Best regards,
MtGox Team

"In the event of recent news"Huh So they have shut down all the operations WITHOUT PRIOR ANNOUNCEMENT because of "recent news"? What news?

"We will be closely monitoring the situation"... What situation? What is Karpeles smoking?

Gox is really treating their customers like fools. Angry mobs with pitchforks are completely justified at this point.

"announcement" on mtgox.com!

Dear MtGox Customers,

LOL!!!

"We will be closely monitoring the situation..."

What situation are they monitoring? Really, what kind of drugs is Karpeles on?
385  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The mysterious MtGox buyer on: February 25, 2014, 03:25:52 PM
If WhatsApp's user base was worth 19B to Facebook then Mtgox's user base is probably worth something to someone as well, especially if you are the one "saving" them from the "evil" Mtgox, goodwill goes a long way.

My question: to whom? And... Right now? An acquisition takes months, if not years. Due diligences are lenghty processes. You just do not make a phone call and throw an offer out of your ass.

So, has Karpeles been in negotiations to sell Gox for many months? And again: to whom?

They are being bought obviously.

If their loss is not too big then it might be good buy. And it might be great dfor Bitcoinland overall if some big and competent name(s) buy them.

No, they want us to believe they are being bought. The HTML comment move is so ridiculous it is painful. They knew that HTML comment was going to "leak". Karpeles is clearly implying they are being bought. I don't believe shit, probably it will just be a make-up action.

Nobody sane would throw money at Gox just now, without a months-long due diligence. No fucking way.
387  Economy / Service Discussion / The mysterious MtGox buyer on: February 25, 2014, 03:09:31 PM
It's clear that somebody wants us to believe that MtGox is being bought by a third party. The facts:

1) Somebody has leaked the following document: http://es.scribd.com/doc/209050732/MtGox-Situation-Crisis-Strategy-Draft

No explicit mention to Gox being sold, but a lot of explicit mentions to re-branding, etc.

Very unlikely to be an internal doc (at least as it is), but some of the info might not be completely false. Five minutes after the "leak" of this document MtGox website disappeared and trading was halted. Previously to that all the feed of their tweeter account was deleted. Just yesterday "gox.com" was registered apparently by Mark Karpeles himself, and now redirects to mtgox.com. Everything seems to support the "leaked document" discourse.

2) Somebody inside MtGox wants us to believe it will be sold/acquired imminently. The below comment can be read on mtgox.com HTML code, and the one who placed it knows very well that comment would have been seen by everybody and thus "leaked" to the masses:

Quote
<html>
   <head>
      <title>MtGox.com</title>
   </head>
   <body>
      <!-- put announce for mtgox acq here -->
   </body>
</html>

3) Karpeles just replied to a Reuters reporter, implying Gox was about to be sold. The question was: "is MtGox dead"? The literal answer: "We should have an official announcement ready soon-ish. We are currently at a turning point for the business. I can't tell much more for now as this also involves other parties."

Source: http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/25/us-bitcoin-mtgox-ceo-idUSBREA1O12T20140225

Summing up: somebody wants us to believe Gox will be bought by someone, very soon.

Who do you believe is so crazy to buy such a destroyed brand? My personal view right now is that nobody sane would pay for Gox - there has been no time for a due diligence and it looks unlikely somebody would throw money to Gox during this shitstorm, this a simple re-branding and a make-up action is much more likely in my opinion.

Anyhow, there's too little info to be sure of anything yet.

What do you think? Who could be the mysterious buyer? Speculate.
388  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Official Money Lost in Mt. GOX Thread on: February 25, 2014, 02:53:25 PM

OMG.

I hope you still have at least the same amount in cold storage.

390  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 25, 2014, 02:02:16 PM
well, that bitcoinbuilder volume is surely not all the time volume as some suggested yesterday as it was at 40k+ yesterday. So it's 24h volume and they made close to 2k BTC yesterday. Wow, wow, wow

Nice. Making money on pain and despair. Gotta love that Smiley
391  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 25, 2014, 11:06:07 AM
.....

That is fucking brilliant.

You're now officially a worthy successor? sidekick? for TheKoziTwo.

Thank you for the compliment but I could never compare to TheKoziTwo - that guy is genius!

In fact I'd love to watch a musical video made by him about all this shitstorm Smiley

LMFAO

Double bottom? 380, 400.

I know that I'm wiring money like crazy to both Kraken and Bitstamp. There will probably be a shitstorm on the media, noobs will panic sell, I expect blood on the streets and thus for me the time has arrived to go *very* long.
Well, in a way it would certainly make sense. We always thought those 750k BTC fake balances existed. Not so!

I lost you there - which 750k BTC fake balances?

51 BTC in gox, millions in paper losses due to crash

Well, those were "paper gains" to begin with, so I wouldn't even consider them.

EDIT: I have myself something below 0.0001 on my Gox account. Couldn't manage to transfer everything out when I left them for good in July/August.
396  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 25, 2014, 08:00:53 AM
You've been STURLED.

Humoristic timeline:

Gox halts USD withdrawals? It's just because their huge volume is overwhelming the banking system.

Gox resumes FIAT withdrawals but they arrive with weeks/months delays? It's just because the traditional banking system is unable to keep up with the demands of such a thriving and profitable business

Gox applies a 5% "ransom fee" and other measures which are obviously just desperate attempts to raise money? Well, their volume is soooo huge and their business soooo profitable that they need the ransom fee to pay the guy processing the withdrawals, otherwise he will just go on strike as he is overwhelmed by the huge volume of work.

Gox delays BTC withdrawals? It's just a minor technical bug related to Bitcoin itself, do not worry guys they have made SO MUCH MONEY in their history that they can just piss the BTC in their customer's faces.

If everything is good at Gox, why the huge spread? Just because the HERD is panicking because of FUDsters, elite traders like STURLE are making shitloads of cash by doing arbitrage/profiting from the panicking herds.

Mmmmmmmmm....

Care to give us an update now, Surle? Please give us your usual explanation on WHY Gox is not online right now, WHY they deleted all their tweets, ETC.

397  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 24, 2014, 04:55:39 PM
Don't know about Mr Allen, but where do you get it from that because we're in a bear market your total worth has to have taken a 50% hair cut?

Perhaps I am taking poetic license in claiming that a Bitcoiner has taken a 50% haircut just because Bitcoin is down 50% in the last two months, but perhaps not. billyjoeallen has stated that he maxed out credit cards to buy into Bitcoin back in the day. That means, he didn't have a bean to rub together, and got into debt to invest in Bitcoin. A absolutely crazy risk that only someone 'in the know' or a complete zealot nutter woud take.

In this case, his death or glory gamble has paid off for him. However, because he is the sort of fanatical nutter that would indebt himself in order to get in on a highly volatile asset, I imagine that most of his wealth is still in Bitcoin. If you have followed the bullshit he has polluted these forums with over the past two months you will know that:

A) He is a holder

B) He completely lacks the ability to read markets

Taking all this into consideration, billyjoeallen is probably worth around half of what he was worth in USD two months ago.

It is a fair comment, I think.

That reminds me - got to get down to my local Tunisian barber. A bargain at 6 Euros a shot!

U in Ireland?

I got the impression that you were a fellow Scot.

Define "back in the day".

Good news everyone!

16:44 <@ne0futur> until unverified accounts used the malleability backdoor to get double paid

Nice. So MtGox remote support person William Waisse ("ne0futur) just admitted on the official #mtgox IRC channel that unverified accounts were used to steal unknown amounts of BTC.

25K BTC volume on Bitcoinbuilder.

the owner of that website is making MILLIONS just by having a website and "guaranteeing" the trades. He processes them manually. He makes 2% on each trade, on both sides of the trade.

Even for bitcoin standards, this is an astonishing easy way of becoming a fucking millionaire.

I bet he is praying for Gox stalling the situation indefinitely Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

He is doing a pretty good job so far. The payouts are on time, the trades are nearly instant. Can't complain so far.
Guess not everybody is that lucky. Payout not on time, critical bug leaving my balance in minus and no reply to support tickets for close to 48 hours. But he is making good money, no doubt about that.

Kozi, I miss your animated gifs. And I really miss your musical videos. Really.

Heeey i got a fan !

I will use that gif in the Gox's delays thread with your permission Smiley
