is it just me or the program is not working? One thing I notice the charts aren't displaying at bitcoins charts. At least for me anyhow

I guess that SR (the very "Bitcoin killer app") being raided by the feds screws up pretty much everything in the Bitcoin ecosystem... Including TA, EMA crossovers and such Cheesy

Page 10 of the complaint claims the site had a section listing hitmen. Is this true??  I thought the site refused to list guns and such... just consensual transactions. Whats the scoop?

Yes, the site officially refused that AFAIK. Just note that guns were not listed on SR because DPR said the volumes did not justify operating "The Armory" (as the guns section of SR was named), not because of some sort of ethic or moral choice - but anyhow "The Armory" existed on SR for a while, but it seems it was just unprofitable for DPR.

What I understand from the affidavit is that inside the "services" category there was *one* item on sale which was a "HUGE black market contact list", and that list included hitmen contacts among many other things.

Was nakowa invested when mechs won?

He had 20% of bankroll, which means he would have lost over 400+ to mechs

Great, that just means Nakowa will come and win another 400 from us to make it up...

While I was away from the cold wallet, nakowa ended up with a balance of over 10k BTC which I was unable to cash out for him.  Instead he invested it, and asked me to block his account from betting, which I did.

So yesterday after mech's win, he was unable to use those 10k BTC to try to win his lost investment back.  He asked for a withdrawal while I was sleeping last night, but had reinvested it by the time I woke up.

I imagine sooner or later we'll be online at the same time, he'll withdraw, make a new account, redeposit, and try (and probably manage) to regain the coins mechs took from him.  The chance of turning 10k into 10.4k is pretty good.

Well, in fact he divested and made a few gambles from a new account, but stopped suddenly (after he lost a few dozens BTC) and wrote on the chat:

Quote
No more show. I cannot beat the house.

And invested again.

Funny stuff if you ask me. And I have to say I'm glad to see Nakowa talking some sense, despite of the chance of recovering the losses being smaller without him gambling.

Guys don't believe the assassination story so quickly. According to the official documents nobody seems to have actually been killed or even exist by the alleged names recovered from Silk Road servers, which have been in FBI custody...

That kind of personality seems totally out of character for DPR. I don't know him but his postings show clear thoughtfulness, like his response to the closing of Atlantis, or his posted rules for SR instead of letting it be an "I don't care what you do, just pay me bitcoins" environment. Hardly seems the type to be ruthless about murder. On the other hand the Feds would look good framed that way, like the heroes who shut down this site with illegal (according to US law) drugs from this clearly evil person.

Before you convict DPR keep in mind the assassination target seems not to exist.

If you read we all agree on the fact DPR was scammed, it's pretty much clear on the affidavit. The thing is that it looks like he was willing to commit that murder.
1305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 09:24:15 PM

Anyhow, I'm glad this was very probably just DPR being scammed. Come on, the "redandwhite" guy contacted him ON BEHALF of FriendlyChemistry, WTF?

I don't know if you remember the "BASICAsic" scam we had here on the forums, but the "I represent the people to whom the scammer owes money" was used repeatedly too, it seems to me like a very old and stupid trick...

We finally agree on something Smiley

I'm curious: would you hire an assassin (or DIY) to avenge someone killing someone you love?

I would definitely not hire an assassin in any case, I'm simply not that cold blooded. As 99% of human beings, I would use lethal force against someone immediately threatening to kill me or my family.

Revenge? I don't really know, I guess I *could* go berserk and do something very bad to someone that murdered one my kids or my wife, but even that I'm not so sure. It depends on many things, and in any case if it happened it would be an irrational and blind reaction motivated by hopeless anger, not a cold-blooded murder.
1306  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 09:20:28 PM
Oh, great. So if an article on mises.org says that blackmailing IS aggression because its against your property, then murdering is OK. If on the contrary it says that blackmailing is not an aggression by itself, then murdering is not OK.

Mind-blowing indeed. Some of you love a tad too much your books, there is people that adores their constitution (or their favorite Rothbard book) just like Muslims blindly adore their Coran or Christians their Bible.

Logic != faith.
One concludes blackmailing is not an aggression after following a long series of logical deductions - that will not be found entirely on the link I posted, it's much longer than only that - not by blindly trusting the tales of ancient book that supposedly contains the words of a super-powerful divinity.

I don't need to conclude anything, I know by heart I would never kill anybody unless my own life (or the life of my kids or wife) was in immediate danger.

DPR's life was not in danger - his business was. That's despicable.
1307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 09:16:56 PM
How did they have such quick access to his BTC wallet?  You would think it would be password encrypted, or something..

I'd say that your "libertarian idol" just crapped his pants, and gave away ALL his passwords immediately.

Some of you justifying the hitman thing on DPR "protecting people lives" by "protecting their secrets" is laughable at best. Everything indicates that he gave access to everything as soon as he got caught, and the hitman thing was just a "Walter White" thing to protect HIS BUSINESS AND HIS MONEY, that's it.

Plus, you just do not execute somebody, adding that he lives with "wife + 3 kids", if you are not a psycho fuck.

He added that to help the assassin and lower the chances of the wife and kids dying without this being the intention. It is valuable intel when handing out such an assignment ...

You are REALLY scaring me. We have different ethics indeed.

Anyhow, I'm glad this was very probably just DPR being scammed. Come on, the "redandwhite" guy contacted him ON BEHALF of FriendlyChemistry, WTF?

1308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 09:13:49 PM
Blackmailing is aggression by definition.

I know for sure that I would never even think of ending somebody's life because of MONEY. The blackmailer was asking for money, he was not threatening to go after him and live his kids fatherless - which in fact is what DPR chose to do.
1309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 09:11:36 PM

I think it's too early to speculate but a lot more was at stake. If the blackmailer had released compromising information about SR users this could result in a lot more broken families.
It seems to me that as a libertarian, DPR was acting within the non-agression principle.

No way. Seriously, that should be a no brainer. Blackmailing isn't an aggression, so no use of force against a blackmailer is acceptable. Just study ethics before saying such things. Here, start with Walter Block: https://mises.org/daily/4576

If after the revelation of such secrets, bad things happen, that's not the direct action of the blackmailer, but of those who took the bad actions (the government, in this case). The blackmailer isn't violating anybody's rights. You have no "right to keep secrets". Having a "right to keep secrets" implies in having the "right to censor", by the way.

Thanks, you may have a point, I'll have a read of that link.

Murder for hire, or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_flag , that is a question.

I don't know what they would need a false flag, to create this debate among the über-small BTCnerds community? 99% of the population thinks narcotics is a serious felony enough to rot in jail, so what's the point in making up the hitman story? Plus, in the affidavit its implied that the hit probably never happened, and you can see clearly how the probable thing is that DPR was scammed because he was dumb. What is the point in making that up, if they already have overwhelming proof to throw DPR in jail forever?
1312  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 08:54:51 PM
This "ethics" discussion aside, is clear that DPR was just scammed as a dumbass, let's sum up:

a) A certain FriendlyChemist blackmails DPR. He justifies the blackmail by saying he needs money to pay his drug suppliers
b) DPR asks FriendlyChemist to be put in contact with the people FC owes money to
c) A certain "redandwhite" contacts DPR on behalf of FriendlyChemist, telling DPR he represent the people that has a credit with FC
d) DPR asks "redandwhite" to just execute FC, as he is a "liability"
e) "redanwhite" complies in less than 24 hours for +1,700BTC

a+b+c+d+e: DPR is DUMB AS FUCK and was clearly owned, I guess the prosecutors know it well as the chapter is labelled as "DPR's willingness to use violence", and they clearly state at the end that nobody seems to have been killed.

The story for those that cannot download the affidavit:

1313  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 08:36:08 PM
I strongly disagree, someone with a minimum sense of humanity would prefer to shut down its business before killing someone... The fact DPR himself told to the hitman "wife + 3 kids" when describing his "target" is way beyond evil. My stomach hurts and my mind spins just to think about it.

Filthy money and the awful things that people is capable to do for it...

Then our ethics are conflicting. To me it feels like justice.

Seriously, you are scaring me now. I can't see where justice is in a world in which people can sleep by knowing they have ordered the murder of a father of three just because of MONEY.

Some guys seem to hate government thugs that violently protect the economic interests of their masters, but it seems ok for them to hire their own thugs to protect their very own economic interests. That's ok, as long as you can afford to pay the hitman's fee, right? That's your "libertarian" utopia?
1314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 08:31:04 PM
wow.. he's against hitmen?  What a hypocrite piece of shit..
Indeed.
That's assuming the government's story is on the up and up, an assumption that can no longer be made from the outset.
No I was agreeing with calling those that are against using the hitman a hypocrite. I would if someone blackmailed me and I thought I would get away with it. You guys would not? Seriously Huh
The blackmail was about nothing more than MONEY.  Once you hire a hitman, it's about someone's LIFE, and is considered a whole new level.  It's hard not to sympathize with a man with 3 kids, do you think they deserve to see their daddy murdered just because he tried to blackmail someone?

I think it's too early to speculate but a lot more was at stake. If the blackmailer had released compromising information about SR users this could result in a lot more broken families.

Wow, so now "libertarians" justify cold-blooded murder in order to protect "their property"? They justify paying a hitman after having received a picture of a corpse as a proof the murder was indeed committed, so they can protect their source of income?

Let me vomit on US-libertarian "ideals" if that is true. A fact remains: 99% of crimes are property related. True anarchists (the original ones, those that don't have the "anarcho-" prefix applied by Rothbard) were always against private property of means of production (=capitalism) precisely because of that.

That is not DPR's responsibility but that blackmailing scumbag's.

1316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 08:01:50 PM
Of course drug dealers don't want drugs legalized. DPR claimed he wasn't just a simple dealer but rather some ideological crusader for a better tomorrow (by which he meant: anarcho-capitalism, his idea of utopia). He wasn't only selling drugs remember, but also malware, forged documents, he experimented with selling weaponry, etc ...

Source?

LOL, this is public domain, everything Mike listed was sold on SR, and much more (stolen identities, stolen CC numbers, etc. etc.). Note that he said "experimented with selling weaponry", because SR sold firearms for a short while only. They stopped doing so because the sales volume was too small to justify maintaining "the armory" as they called it. The source for the former is the SR site, and for the latter DPR itself, who explained thoroughly why he stopped selling weapons in SR's forum... Which by the way was a very interesting read, I never was a user myself of SR, I'm not really interested in things that can get you to rot in jail, but I dug in SR's forums just out of curiosity because it was a fascinating underworld ecosystem.
1317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 06:29:17 PM
In case people missed this article I'll quote a piece from it...very interesting how he got caught.

Quote
"The government says it identified Ulbricht after a routine border search of a package that contained nine counterfeit IDs. The package was shipped from Canada to an address in San Francisco. When the government visited the San Francisco address, they found Ulbricht there.

The government then identified the primary Silk Road server and obtained an image of its hard drive in July, providing the federal government with a wealth of information about the Silk Road's operations."

For someone with a B.S. degree in physics, this seems like an incredibly dumb way to get caught.

The indictment says they were already watching him because of writing two posts about SR in 2011.
