Private servers are down.

I don't understand how Eligius supporting another part(?) of the Bitcoin community is in any way detracting from here.
This thread would continue to be clutter-ish, even without the other forum.

It's just a practical matter. I won't be leaving Eligius because of that, but honestly I already invest a huge amount of time on this forum and I'd prefer not to follow another one. I assume many feel the same.
1283  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: October 08, 2013, 10:01:44 AM
Mt Gox has redeemed itself in my eyes. I waited 3 months for an earlier regular swift withdrawal. Cancelled it and requested expedited 5% fee withdrawal instead. Today, about 2 weeks later, just like they promised, he money hit my account. 5 figure USD amount
Wow, "expedited" or "emergency" 5% withdrawal that takes between 2 weeks and 4 weeks to clear... So much for the "emergency" Cheesy
Like promised.  The emergency withdrawal option is very limited.  There is probably a queue on that one as well now.

Quote
Honestly, I still think what I wrote weeks ago: the 5% fee is just a desperate attempt to make some extra money to cover Gox's losses. The BS about "the traditional banking system" not able to keep up with their volume is UTTER BS, guys I hope you know what Occam's Razor indicates here: Gox is doing fractional reserve with customers money, they have a huge $10M hole and they are struggling to cover it, and that's the only reason of the huge delays in withdrawals.
Your mouth is big, your documentation non-existing, you are making up holes, and you fail to explain anything in a way that makes sense.

I don't see why you take it so personal. I've been a long time customer of Gox, I moved very high volumes in and out without any problems in the past and I always posted positive reports when they were just doing good and people was spreading FUD, but now I just see the facts. Why do you think Gox's USD value is 10% lower than anywhere else? Oh, I see, is just people that is stupid and panic for nothing... So you are doing MILLIONS in arbitrage, right sturtle?

Secondly, the documentation in which I base myself to say they have a $10M hole is basically public knowledge. Just check a) the reply to Coinlab (where Gox admits that Coinlab withheld +$5M that were added to customer's balances, but they do not say anywhere in that document that they had to cover that with their profit. They ONLY say that money was credited to customer balances and Gox never received it; and b), the DHS statement where they state they sized aprox. $5M from Gox's Wells Fargo account.

Thirdly, in what documentation you base yourself to defend that Gox is perfectly solvent, and the delay is just because "the traditional banking system is unable to keep up with the demands of the thriving BTC economy"? Honestly, please answer to that. I hope you do not consider what Karpeles says on IRC as a valid source/documentation.

Finally, I don't know in what world do you live in, but in the world I live in you can swiftly send money IF YOU HAVE IT. Sure, some delays may occur from time to time, especially if your business could be considered "shady" or "high risk" by this or that bank, but at the end of the day you can move the money quickly if you have a) THE MONEY TO BE SENT, and b) THE MONEY TO PAY THE COSTS TO SEND THAT MONEY QUICKLY IN CASE THERE ARE DIFFICULTIES

So... Gox is charging a 5% fee to do "manual" withdrawals, a fee that is supposed to fully go to the bank (let me doubt about that, in my country that could almost be considered extortion... Paying extra 5% to have my freaking money??), and again we have 2/4 weeks delays for those "emergency withdrawals"? WHY? Because the guy doing the manual withdrawals at the bank is overwhelmed again (poor guy)? REALLY? Don't you realize that with a leonine 5% fee the bank could hire AS MANY GUYS AS THEY WANT to process the transfers in the same day, as this is their best interest, as they would be making HUGE money with that LEONINE fees?

Come on sturtle, come on: let's be serious.

1284  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 08, 2013, 09:40:52 AM
I cannot enter in the "mining" tab from the webui in one of my miners after I manually set up a failover pool in cgminer - everything worked fine until I added a new pool, removed the previous one, and added a third - now when I click on the "mining" tab on the webui I get a blank, white page.

Obvious SSHing the box and configuring cgminer directly still works.

This happened only in ONE miner, the rest are working fine despite of adding a failover pool - nevertheless, for those miners I just added a new pool and enabled failover, on the contrary on the "faulty" miner I did and undid a few changes in the "pool management" in cgminer.

Anyone with the same problem?

DDoS again... working on it.

Sorry about the shakiness regarding these DDoS's.  I usually have sufficient upstream access to mitigate these quickly, however access controls have been tightened a little upstream so I actually have to make phone calls to get these things done and it takes a little while to do this. Undecided

I'm curious as to the purpose behind the DoS, though...  Huh

Well, what's the purpose behind DDoSing a BTC pool?

Anyhow, thanks for solving the issue quickly, let's see if we can find a block soon after almost 9 hours Wink

Cores are enabled again soon enough.

Firmware still "work in progress" ATM

Enoyhow, it looks funny that there are 10.9 steady TH/s and we mined a couple of blocks but they do not show up and no payments are made. I was up in the queue...

Now neither of the blocks 262294 and 262296 are in the GUI. Something is really screwy.

Exactly. Its a pity, we were having a fun ride on elegius. Moved 100% of my hashrate to BTCGuild private servers, but oh boy the 3% fee hurts. A lot.

Wizzkid: please fix this issue ASAP, "time is money" (quite literally)

Something funny is happening at Eligius. My 3 hour hashrate dropped by +20%, and the graph is showing vert funky behaviour for ALL my miners... I was terribly worried about something electrical going on in my farm (you know, hashrate fluctuating wildly in all the miners, at the same time) but I checked the graph of other users and it seems that its the pool who is having the problem... Obviously cgminer show the miners hashing just fine.

I've been mining at Eligius for the last 3/4 days and I love the interface and the 0% fees, but isn't the variance extremely high?

I believe variance is high for slower minder due to the fact that min pdiff was increased from 1 to 2. At least that is how I explain my observation since it was bumped.

   T

I have a few TH/s and it looks to me variance is high

BTW, how do you cange min diff. to +256? It seems is not working on "my eligius" as I see cgminer mining at 127...

I see a bit of high variance on my end as well.

When you make your setting in "my eiligius" to 256  and save it- what happens? Does it remain 256 in the box? It should.

Yes, it stays... But at the same time it says "*** Minimum Difficulty Setting does NOT yet have any effect! ***"... Why is that?

'Orama, great summary of the situation. Good job.

Will be looking forward for those beautiful firmware updates Cheesy

My .....?

Don't worry guys, is just the old financial system unable to keep up with the thriving BTC economy... They just can't handle Gox's volume, you know... Hundreds of thousands of customers and millions $ coming in and out, the bank able to handle smoothly such a HUGE business volume is yet to be born!

And possible info on that first "murder for hire" plot, the one he said he got done for $80k.. seems he was set up in that one too by the feds!
This news article has a lot of info I havnt heard about so far.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/crime/blog/bal-silk-road-owner-ross-william-ulbricht-allegedly-tried-to-arrange-witness-murder-in-md-20131002,0,5476223.story

The plot thickens (many similarities with the Walter White saga, both in the supposed facts and in the psychology related to them):

Quote
The Maryland charges stem from his alleged interactions starting in April 2012 with an undercover agent here. The agent began communicating with Ulbricht, court documents say, claiming to be a high-level drug smuggler who wanted to move inventory on Silk Road.

When one of Ulbricht's employees got arrested in January as a result of one their arranged transactions, authorities say Ulbricht worried that the employee would blow his cover.

Ulbricht allegedly asked the undercover agent to have the employee killed, saying he had "never killed a man or had one killed before, but it is the right move in this case."

The agent led Ulbricht to believe that the killing had been carried out, including staged photos of the employee being tortured, and on March 1 Ulbricht wired $80,000 from an account in Austrailia to an account controlled by authorities.

The series of events emboldened Ulbricht, according to separate documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Later in March, according to private messages reviewed by federal agents, a Silk Road vendor threatened to blackmail Ulbricht by exposing information about the site's users and transactions.

Ulbricht then reached out to a user to take care of the problem, according to court records.

"I would like to put a bounty on his head if it's not too much trouble for you," he wrote in a message on March 29, authorities say in court documents. "Necessities like this do happen from time to time for a person in my position."

Messages exchanged between Ulbricht and the user show they discussed prices between $150,000 and $300,000, depending on whether Ulbricht wanted it done "clean or non-clean." On April 1, the user told Ulbricht that his problem had been "taken care of" and sent a picture of the victim.

It's not clear whether such a killing occurred -- agents wrote that they could find no record of there being someone with the name of the victim that was exchanged. They said they contacted authorities in White Rock, British Columbia about whether a homicide had been committed on March 31.
