@xhomerx10, thanks for the info, I honestly had no idea that something similar had happened, or even that there was a possibility that the aurora borealis might be seen where it is otherwise not possible. However, as far as I can see, this news mainly refers to the US, and it seems that we will not be so lucky in Europe (at least not the southern parts).

 Hmmm... interesting. The NOAA model

shows the highest velocity, highest density plasma impacting earths atmosphere around midnight tonight.  You may have to stay up much later than usual but

I would say the aurora should be fully underway by 0300 UST on May 11th in Europe.  The EUHFORIA (EUropean Heliospheric FORecasting Information Asset) model shows a peak around 0500UST.  It is a probabilistic event but you don't get much better chances than this to see it the aurora in southern Europe.  It's still early in the peak of this solar cycle though so maybe there will be more opportunities later this year.

Okay guys, this time I'm serious about checking the sky at night this weekend.  Wherever you live, there's an excellent chance to see the aurora.   A couple days ago, a very large sunspot, visible from earth during the day with just your eclipse glasses, unleashed a barrage of solar flares and associated CMEs (coronal mass ejections) toward earth.  I believe at least 5 of them in a row - this is a rare event.  The largest one was an X4.5 and X is the largest class of solar flare. the classes are B->C->M->X.  It's similar to the Richter scale for earthquakes in that each class represents a 10X increase in energy.  Unless you live somewhere between 60° and 70° north or south latitudes, viewing auroras is rare.  Seeing them as far south as Florida is very rare and when they are that strong as to be seen so far south, they are usually very colourful as well.  Based on the model from NOAA, this might begin tonight around 2100UST tonight but Saturday evening should be awesome.  🤞

ChartBuddy gambling game, where you can bet on "higher" or "lower" within the 1st 5 mins of a ChartBuddy post.
That sounds fun Smiley Put me down for "higher" for the rest of eternity Tongue

I appreciate the compliment but I should point out that there have been moments of disappointment with which I may have been ever-so-slightly associated.   Cheesy

edit: For any of you who wear prescription lenses, you can still grab yourself some Pit Vipers!  I found a place that makes prescription lenses that slide right into any pair!

For page parity.

Times have been different.

Ahh I missed it even though I saw your post and was planning to celebrate with a post on page 33333  but missed it… just by one post:(

Well that means we're getting really close to 666666 posts then.

edit: When post parity?

I've decided to close my account with Nifty Images (and use the money for stacking sats) until we get closer to the next halvening so this will be my last post on that topic for a while.  The image above will be valid for

WTF, Is it believable for a low amount transaction of this fee.

4 may 2024, someone paid $100,608 fees for their $6 amount Bitcoin transfer.

Hmm. No change address. Weird. I don't think any legit wallet would miss that.

Looks like they mixed up the fee and the output fields, ie meant to send the ~1.6 btc

There is no fee field. Any fund not allocated is the fee. Usually you have the target and the change address (though you can't necessarily tell which is which) but you can have more target addresses if you want.

Somebody really wanted that sat.  Why? I do not understand.

He needed to pay for that coffee real quick.

i know the feeling. i cant climb a flight of stairs without stopping for coffee halfway up. coffee is important.

When I got my job 10 years ago I had the coffee machine next to me, just had to turn around on my chair to get one. Only downside is I had to make coffee for colleagues in the same room.

Few years ago I changed office and now the coffee machine is 2 levels down, with no elevator...big problem. End of the year we move and we'll have a café at the same level as the office, a perk to compensate for moving us far from our current location...

Two levels down for coffee?!  I would have had legs like tree trunks.

GOOOOAL!
Sorry Jimbo.  First game I've watched live in years.

GOOOAL! is soccer.

The proper terminology in hockey is:

He shoots he scores!

I feel badly that the Leafs lost but at the same time, I had picked Pasternak to score in my Tim's app so I won 25 points and I'm 1/16th closer to a free coffee.

The debate was not interesting, almost nothing to report.
Two guys saying that bitcoin has NO value...not less value, but none.
Eric was very polite, but was repeatedly interrupted.
Eric is a "bitcoin" guy. Mooch is there just for the $$ and trading, but could not explain why he thinks that bitcoin is a store of value apart from the fact that more and more people have bitcoin wallets.
Sometimes, I think that P. Schiff does not even believe his own bs.
Roubini is just a establishment propagandist who cannot concede even when clearly shown to be wrong in an example by Eric.

...and we are positive for the last 7d. Nice!

Thanks for this. I will probably not watch it then. Can't stand Roubini and his nonsense. And if the Bitcoin team can't explain how Bitcoin is a store of value, then stupidity and closed-mindedness will dominate... What was probably needed was Michael Saylor to join in and set everyone straight.

Will be fun to interview Schiff and Roubini in late-2025. Cheesy

Nouriel tries to create a definition for "asset"  that excludes bitcoin and uses that as a basis for his argument that "Bitcoin is not an asset".  I played stenographer and typed what I heard but with the Italian/Turkish/Iranian combination accent it's not easy and then when it's also dripping with disdain, it becomes really difficult because I just wanted to turn it off and make it stahp.

"Is it an asset? People say is an asset or a commodity.
First of all an asset has to have either a stream of income - stocks give you dividends, bond give you a coupon, loans give you an interest rate, real estate gives you rent...
or it has to have some utility -  housing, if you don't rent it, gives you housing services, commodity, you eat them, use them for energy, use them for lots of production stuff including precious metals gold, silver platinum.  Gold has utility also, is also used as jewelry has been used as jewelry forever (goes on a tangent about tacky bitcoin jewelry)... so, so, so either has income or has utility or is used in industry or to be a stable store of value... has to be stable in terms of CPI or some index of prices. Somethings volatile ten plus... ten plus one day, twenty percent down the other day I mean it went from 2017/18 in to twenty then went down to three then went to sixty-nine then went to sixteen now it's gone up to seventy now down to fifty where is the.. which kind of stable store of value.
By the way we know the suckers...as you know, we know that the users... the user of bitcoin peak with the price going higher so at the peak everybody was "FOMO gets in" (unintelligible) suckers, the whales are selling it and when everything goes down the tube they sell at the bottom and they get screwed. Bought at the peak and at the bottom - that's reality.
"

Imagine having to put Bitcoin into a neat little category that already exists in your well-schooled mind in order to justify stacking some sats but you just can't find the right-sized hole to stick it in as you continuously watch it moon, in spite of your "logic" and ad hominem attacks all the while calling us the "suckers".   I think that's reality.

Oh, by the way, how did shorting the US stock market in the 4th quarter last year work out for you Dr. Doom?  Ha ha! Pwned! Sucker!

It is sort of funny that this message got cited live by Tomas on World Crypto Network..   it was at minute 50 and 44 seconds  (you can hear it right here (queued in and everything).

He read it (as a "shout out"), and he said, looks they are allowing shout-outs, but he did not speak of the substance of the message, so admittedly, he must not be a WO regular (or perhaps a forum regular).. not that anyone would automatically get the context.

In my world, it's unfathomable that someone doesn't know JJG.

Okay Bitcoin, the Leafs managed to pull off a win; your turn!

Compared to the Leafs, Bitcoin is looking fine to me tonight.

Buddy, Buddy. Wherefore art thou Buddy?

Richie? You didn't murder our premier WO contributor did you?

Hopefully he's just been busy working on his tax return.

I sure hope he's OK.

As far as I can tell talkimg seems to be back to normal once again; Buddy should wake up soon.
