I'm arguing that there are also different metrics that are useful to gauge which alt currency one should be in, if any.

My point is that NXT market cap was 3.7 times smaller at the recent peak compared to the ATH (in both price and market cap), while XMR's cap was 4 times higher at the recent peak, compared to when the price made the ATH. What this means both for the past and for the future, I will let you and the others readers figure out for yourselves.

Just make sure that you're in before that O column scratches your nice wooden floors.

To my understanding Relative Strength has nothing to do with coin capitalization but rather the current strength of one coin relatively to another. Arguing on such a crystal clear thesis should be done in terms of another TA method, not different metrics. Equally, it would be like comparing 2 vehicles and their relative velocity; you don't want to be to the bigger one (grander coincap) but to the faster one (stronger rise), that's how RS is being used to make money.

"if the price of BTC was going down then we'd been all happy"... No, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be happy! Cheesy

My take is that as BTC price rises, the % of JPY to be distributed also rises, so regardless of BTC price at distribution, it should be close to 20%.

I don't think that this is the case, because the amount of JPY also as the amount of BTC to be distributed is finite. That's why the trustee decided to distribute it based on a certain price at a specific date.

But, you are right for the BTC price Wink
44  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: June 21, 2016, 09:31:11 AM
That is  not fair.
The value of the held bitcoins (approx 200.000) should be valued the day of the distribution or as an average of the last N days before the distribution.
It does not make sense to value bitcoins according to a value of some day randomly chosen.

Yes, that is my sentiment as well. It would make sense if they had actually sold the BTC last year and fixed the price at that moment, but if they are still holding the BTC then they will be penalising those who are owed BTC and benefitting those who are owed fiat (if the value of BTC is higher than at the fixed level)

It feels like they are treating this like a traditional bankrupt company: freeze the bank accounts, sell the inventory and assets like buildings and then distribute the fiat (whatever is left over) proportionally over all the debt holders

This is a two sided sword; if the price of BTC was going down then we'd been all happy. Now it's because it pumps (will it be forever?) that we still talk about it. All in all, I believe since this was the first time that some company like MtGox went bankrupt, there was not a known procedure and they had to improvise.

My thesis is that I'm not happy about it; but let's get it done already before BTC hits a new ATH! Cool

^^
I know...
46  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: June 21, 2016, 07:35:33 AM
So how much will we receive?
20% of the bitcoin lost?
Maybe less considering that the price of bitcoins has increased? (so the ones who had money will get more)

If your claim is accepted, then you now know the amount in JPY you will be handed. For bitcoin there was a fixed price for it when this is officially announced (and the pdf was out); IIRC roughly 50500 JPY per bitcoin. So if we want to make the assumption that our claims will be delivered according to this, you will have to divide that amount with bitcoin's current value to come up with the bitcoins you will end up with.

Just got it in the email too.
It means every claimant? And where are we supposed to find a japanese speaker/writer within the next week?
That was not clear to me....

To my understanding it is referred only to the ones that want to dispute their case outcome, whether is accepted or rejected. If you have no problem with the amount that is assigned to you, then you don't have any reason to fill a dispute.

To be sure, ask Dargo here:

Kraken just released this:

Quote
Dear User

Kraken has received many requests from our clients and others in the community for assistance in disputing accepted or rejected amounts with MtGox claims.
Any claimants with remaining disputes must file an application for an appraisal of their bankruptcy claim with the Tokyo District Court. This is the only process for disputing MtGox claims.
Each creditor with a dispute must file their own appraisal application. To assist the community, Kraken is pleased to provide assistance that, to the best of our knowledge, may be helpful in filing the application. However, Kraken is not responsible for any potential inaccuracies in the provided information, and not responsible for any outcomes.
The best option for claimants would be to find a Japanese lawyer who can help fill out the application. However, according to the Japanese bankruptcy lawyers Kraken spoke with, the first stage of this filing for the claim assessment does not necessarily require a lawyer. Claimants may need an attorney to file a lawsuit.
First, claimants must officially alert the court that they desire their case reviewed before the deadline of June 27, 2016, Japan Standard Time. Kraken has created a template for claimants’ use, but it must be filled out in Japanese. It is the responsibility of claimants to find a Japanese speaker or a translation service to help with this process, as Kraken is not able to assist creditors in filling out this template.
Template: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1k4p54zRk3HkeGM8WTfhMMTIlmoDfV7_fwPvrC8-ONi8/pub
Instructions: http://imgur.com/NwyRqSB
Although in an ideal circumstance, a credentialed Japanese attorney can help, it may be adequate to find someone who can write proper Japanese to explain the situation and to provide necessary evidence.
Second, by the deadline on June 27, 2016 in Japan Standard Time, claimants must be sure to mail all required documents to the court. Claimants must mail two copies of the form and two copies of each evidence document (1 for the court, 1 for the trustee) to the Tokyo District Court.
The mailing address of Tokyo District Court can be found below:
The Section in charge of bankrupt entity MTGOX Co., Ltd. 20th Civil Division of the Tokyo District Court 1-2 Kasumigaseki 1-chome Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-8920 Japan
Thank you for choosing Kraken Bitcoin Exchange

God damn, I gotta say, that crazy Greek kLee is worth his weight in gold. Didn't want to listen initally to the signals he gave for XMR, but some damn inpressive TA today. Enabling me to lock in an amazing profit on my margin trade. Very happy that I took his advice, convinced by his various charts & analysis.

Looking for a good further re-entry now....

kLee, please stop bringing more people in there! Fatman and me alone are capable of transforming the service into a trollbox... Tongue

Please keep in mind, when the ETH and DAO bug is fixed, we will see the reverse flow from XMR to ETH/DAO, so don't party to hard right now  Wink

IMHO, THIS is the time to release the GUI wallet...
It's now or never,
come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
it's now or never
My love won't wait.

Nice song; but we should persuade Vitalik to sing it for the XMR audience; maybe even create a DAO for us... Still laughing? think again.

@Solarsilver: This is very specific IMO. You are eligible to get the BTC amount that represents the JPY equivalent of your "back when" deposit in BTC. I agree with Tzupy though; we'll have to be patient (and yes, I've delegated the task to Kraken for my BTC claims) about the way and the final amount we will get.
55  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: June 16, 2016, 07:31:34 PM
but is there a way to see in the list with accepted claims if we are going to actually get it in BTC or in JPY?

Yes, it's quoted as BTC as well in mine; and the amount I wanted was BTC - as the one I have lost. It says accepted, so I just wait for Kraken for the distribution (fingers crossed).
56  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: June 16, 2016, 03:11:02 PM
This raises an interesting point only in the case where the creditor(s) demanded the trustee to pay him/her in fiat money. There are people who demanded BTC since this is what they had in their MtGox addresses. If the BTC amount has been accepted, then your BTCs will be delivered as it's stated into the creditors' list. But, yes; there's an issue regarding the BTC price and the timing the funds will be released...

 Undecided

Kraken confirmed that go to distribute in bitcoins 100% sure ? and what happen with who claim in btc in mtgox page, will go to distribute in bitcoin too ? Is possible change to kraken today ?

I think it's not anymore possible, but they may have changed their policy. They have a thread in the forum here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=290799.3480
PM user: Dargo maybe there's still a solution.
59  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: May 29, 2016, 08:36:11 PM
I'm not sure Mt.Gox will withdraw to everybody who lost his money.

If you're verified and accepted you will receive your funds (BTC). What we don't know yet is the portion of what will be sent to you, since it is subjected to the BTC available vs the BTC claimings that were verified and accepted by the trustee, until all disputes have been examined (this is STILL an ongoing process IIRC). There was an outrageous amount of claims that were never there in the first place; also as people that don't see their funds in their accounts for various other reasons.

If you can prove your claims (blockchain tx, personal ID, MtGox Ubikey, or ANY other means of verification) then you will get your respective amount money.

Another news regarding this case: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/05/25/kraken_mtgox_bankruptcy/

The operators of the Kraken exchange will distribute $91 millions in Bitcoins to people left out of pocket by the 2014 MtGox collapse.

That reassures me that the receiver won't dump the Bitcoins on exchanges or auction them. Liquidating assets and paying creditors back in fiat was standard procedure in all Japanese bankruptcy cases until this one. This is the first time assets get returned instead of fiat. Most of the creditors want Bitcoins and it's good news the receiver listened to them.

That's because they officially recognize BTC as money.
