It will be a wild ride to hell or heaven...

Totally agree with all points; for most of them I already have seen proof of existence in the lab... Except for the last one quoted above... it could definitely hover in the middle.  Wink

Blade runner quoted dialog made this charty thread far more interesting for me. Weird; 1982 scripts should really get going into reality in a few years; what do you think Klee? Smiley

Strange, I saw quite a few articles about great Bitcoin adoption in Brazil. Not that that is anything great, it would be better if another country was named, instead of that shithole that's going down the drain.

Brazil currently has many big problems, but fortunately bitcoin still does not seem to be one of them.  Perhaps Brazilians are indeed smarter than the folks in your bithole.

Hmm. I think it's wise to leave this here:

According to a new report from the Jubilee Debt Campaign, there are currently 24 countries in the world that are facing a full-blown debt crisis…

■ Armenia
■ Belize
■ Costa Rica
■ Croatia
■ Cyprus
■ Dominican Republic
■ El Salvador
■ The Gambia
■ Greece
■ Grenada
■ Ireland
■ Jamaica
■ Lebanon
■ Macedonia
■ Marshall Islands
■ Montenegro
■ Portugal
■ Spain
■ Sri Lanka
■ St Vincent and the Grenadines
■ Tunisia
■ Ukraine
■ Sudan
■ Zimbabwe

And there are another 14 nations that are right on the verge of one…

■ Bhutan
■ Cape Verde
■ Dominica
■ Ethiopia
■ Ghana
■ Laos
■ Mauritania
■ Mongolia
■ Mozambique
■ Samoa
■ Sao Tome e Principe
■ Senegal
■ Tanzania
■ Uganda

So what should be done about this?

Trying to solve unsolvable problems by re-implementing old recipes only has one outcome: Repetitive Failure.. I don't claim that BTC is perfect; but it's an alternative to the current monetary system turmoil, where the few 1% who are "bold enough" to claim (sometimes by force) more than what's theirs are becoming the rich ones, while the other 99% are just merely trying to push the day forward.

BTC doesn't have to be a worldwide implementation. It only has to be incorporated within a small infrastructure, big enough for someone to be able to do some real world comparison to the current system. Killer app for Bitcoin is yet to come; some say it's the government. Some others claim it's something we do not know yet; but given the possibility to rule out the biggest flaw of the current monetary system (the human greed) and replace it with random matrix equations, fits for me.

If you're smart enough to cheat, try finding the Jacobian.

Why should religon be the one area were we don't question someone's belief? If no one had ever questioned me on it, I'd still be living in the mental prison of organized religion--and i find that unethical.

Let me clarify (once more) we're on the same boat on this. A mental prison has only one key and it's called "Knowledge". This has nothing to do with God or any religion. You were ready to question what you thought it had a flaw (or didn't serve your needs). That's why you were able to question it in the first place. And that's ethical also as sane.

On the other hand, if you were not ready to question your faith, then a person who would "oblige" you to do it, by "opening your eyes" would probably make things worse and possibly he would have gained himself a devoted enemy. Please understand that not everybody is "open minded" and as I said, religion is often used as a safe heaven for a troubled soul. Maybe we should just let people to it.

But more to the point is why is it being leveraged in a political discussion? Let's not forget that Revelations damns everyone who doesn't fit within a prescribed belief system. Do you see me threatening anyone with eternal damnation or referencing materials that do? And if your beliefs can't handle being questioned, how strong were they to begin with?

If you think that religion has nothing to do with politics you're obviously need to reconsider. Both are tightly associated with a synaptic bond that serves back and forth "pro bono" the needs of each other. Each will dispense its services to each other whenever the society "demands" it. This has nothing to do with either the first, not the later; it has only has to do with control and power over the hordes of desperate people.

You are agnostic, so I presume you're very much aware what I'm talking about here. Enough said.
488  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Totalitarianism on: August 29, 2015, 06:36:10 PM
Even if I don't believe in something, even if I know something is a fraud, or even can prove it's a fake; my ethics constraints me to accept one's beliefs. "What ethics has to do with religion", you might ask... Religion often offers people a standing point into their stormy lives. I rarely try to debunk such a belief,  or argue with it; because if I do, I may destroy what this human has thought as utterly important for his own existence; and that I find unethical.

PS: He still smokes.  Roll Eyes

When I was 5 years old, my father promised me the equivalent of 2,500 EUR when I am 18, if I don't smoke by 30. I collected the money (with interest, it was about 5,000 EUR) and lost it in the Nasdaq bubble. I did not start smoking until I was 33.

Now I have been not smoking for 28 days, to show my wife that it is possible. After 3 days I will start again though. But I only smoke cigars, and only hand-made.

I had it quit 15y ago. Occasionally, I light up a cigar once every few months (up to years). Usually with a good glass of brandy or wine, whichever comes handy. It wasn't an easy task if you ask me, I was a heavy smoker too (up to 3 packs of Camels per day). I agree though, everything is possible when YOU decide it actually IS! Wink
490  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Totalitarianism on: August 28, 2015, 07:41:27 PM
Here's a story I've witnessed all these years I've been messing around with some lab work. I once met a 70y old guy, he was diagnosed with throat cancer and his voice was barely audible. He was a heavy smoker alas the root of his problem. I was at the lab looking at his file with a friend who said "I don't recommend to go this guy for a chemo - he's lost anyway, besides he's already 75y old". The patient knew that he had it; and he agreed not to go for measures that will "give him a bad death", but he'd rather live his remaining days on his own way.

After 30-40 days it was the Orthodox Easter here. We had arranged to see his new examination file right after that to see how he goes. He showed up with his latest biochemical & MRI and the tumor was not there! We asked him what meds was on the 1.5 month and he said "my faith to God". He said to us that during the Easter time he drank nothing but water while the holy Friday he got to the church and prayed for his health. We were stunned. The colleague of mine told me that he had no scientific proof for such a tumor retreat within such a short time period.

I'm a known a-religionist, so I won't go for a religious explanation here - I don't have any. I do have some evidence that his 1 month fasting diet could have helped; but I can't say for sure this was the case. He still, FAITHFULLY believes, that God saved him; and who am I to oppose to his faith...

PS: He still smokes.  Roll Eyes

The problem is that our usual discussion thread for this type of thing (Gold Collapsing. Bitcoin UP) was locked by the Forum Administrators.  Furthermore, my submissions to /r/bitcoin are all censored now.  Since I've lost my two favourite outlets, my Bitcoin addiction is leaking into nearby threads...

Only 43 newbies over there and not a single hero!

Why did they close down the old thread in the first place? It used to be a nice place to collect info. Anyone knows specifics? Undecided

Here is another voice that points towards the inevitable, this time from marketwatch.

China’s economy may be in worse shape than people think

China may be in worse shape than authorities in Beijing are willing to admit.

An analyst at Evercore ISI crunched the numbers and estimated that the Chinese economy actually shrank in July, suggesting that China’s forecast for 2015 is overly optimistic, if not unrealistic.

“Our proprietary Synthetic Growth Index (SGI) fell 1.1% month-on-month in July, and was also down 1.1% year-on-year,” said analyst David Straszheim at Evercore ISI.

“Even if we adjust our SGI upward (for too-little representation of services—lack of data), we believe actual economic growth in China is far below the official 7.0% year-on-year. And it is not improving.”

The SGI is a weighted average of seven components including railway freight, airline passengers, and electricity consumption.

You might want to consider hdbuck until he gets his life in order. I'm ok with him being a douche against me, but he's hurling insults in any and all directions.

Yeah; a part of me just won't accept it; he used to be a nice guy... I think I won't add him, unless he continues his attitude for a couple of days or more. This is just sad.  Undecided

Seems M.A. predicted more than one thing right:

China’s shares wiped out all of this year’s gains, setting Asian markets tumbling, as fears about the deepening effects of a slowdown in the world’s No. 2 economy rattle investors across the globe.

A number of currencies in the region fell to multiyear lows, with shares in China down more than 8%, and benchmarks in Japan and Australia both shedding more than 2%. The losses early Monday follow steep declines in U.S. and European stocks on Friday, and add to the pressure that has driven some commodities to multiyear lows and battered emerging markets.

At the heart of the selloff is the concern that the once-highflying Chinese economy may be slowing down dramatically. China’s surprise move to devalue its yuan two weeks ago—which would make its exports more competitive—and a string of weak economic data has tipped off worries that one of the world’s biggest drivers of growth may be slowing faster than expected.

Investors will be looking to China’s next move after The Wall Street Journal reported that the central bank is preparing to flood the banking system with liquidity to boost lending. Some economists say that China still has plenty of levers to pull to get its economy back into gear.

Still, the lack of official action over the weekend spooked investors Monday morning.

“There’s going to be plenty of red on the screens today,” said Auckland-based Macquarie Equities broker Brad Gordon.

Interesting tweet with interesting timing. Did Kim Dotcom predict 2013 bubble right?

This seems to be tweeted before the China stock market closure; just for reference:

- MSCI -> 4% in a 3 year low
- Shanghai -> -8,49%
- Nikkei ->  -4,61%

Maybe Kim has a point...

i find it hilarious 2 poeple have voted they don't believe in democracy. oh le bitcoiner, a puzzle wrapped inside an enigma, he is.

I bet those people are the most rational among all of us (FWIW: I didn't vote for that). Democracy is just another dead word that describes a dead concept, in (an almost) dead ancient language. Theoretically it exists, but in practice it's very much dead. This is a pretty long conversation and let me remind you that the above text comes from a Greek.  Undecided
500  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 23, 2015, 10:22:29 PM
Since WizSec's last report was published, the theory Mt. Gox's bitcoins were lost over a period of years beginning as early has 2011 has gained some traction. If so, it suggests your insider must have been active over a long period of time. From what I understand, there were only ever 30 people including contractors working there. If the insider was not Mark, then s/he should be easy to indentify. Who was this sneak?

My thoughts would go to an unhappy employee. People can do various things when they're unhappy and at some point the business in MtGox was booming. Too many transactions, too many responsibilities, probably the worst part was an autistic MK towards his anxious people. Frankly, I cannot say for sure. It's only a hypothesis that is yet to be proved right or wrong.
