I don't to see how a strict regulation which almost everyone declared too tight would increase demand on the market. People claimed crypto developers will flee New York if this regulation is released.

There are always 2 faces in the same coin. IMHO, Bitcoin NEEDS regulation if we're heading for bigger things. Let's see how this evolves, since it's a critical point towards mass adoption.

Hi Dargo.

Just filled in my MtGox claims with you. I have one question if you can answer it; I can't remember if I've sent them (MtGox) my bank account info (nor which was it) but filled in all the other info for you; would that be a problem?

Thanks.

PS: Only got some BTCs in there - no cash at all.

Hi macsga,

As long as you provided all the information that you have and submitted the claims form the missing bank account information should not be a problem. Most likely, if the trustee needs further information to evaluate your claim he is going to contact you during the claims evaluation process.

I'll try to get more information on how important the information on your bank account is and get back to you.

Thanks Yunus. If I recall correctly I had 3 Bank accounts back then; and I really can't remember which one I have declared to them. Anyway; if they want more info then I can provide it to them.

Cheers.

You can rule this possibility out. The MtGox worked on fractional reserve (that means from the 800,000 allegedly "existing" btcs only 200,000 were found). Also the fiat will be used to pay for other things as well (ie: legal process, investigators etc). I estimate only 1/4 to 1/5 of my original BTC reserve back and you should do the same; if it's more then it's good for us... if not, we don't get (too much) frustration. Roll Eyes

The other factor to bear in mind is that a large number of potential creditors may not file a claim due to the legal ramifications of claiming those Mt. Gox accounts. Claims can also be disputed, and certainly MK's claim(s) will be. One estimate from a friend who has dealt with the accounts of a lot of the gambling sites is that roughly 50% of the accounts probably lie fallow.

I expect this to be true. I also expect a lot of people won't bother filing a claim at all. The reasons might be:

1. Lack of interest because of low balance (accounts with < 1 BTC balance)
2. Lost credentials (study states that 3 out of 10 won't remember what their login AND pass was after 1 year)
3. Ghost accounts (ie: accounts that were used only for pump n dump purposes; internally-or-externally of MtGox)

In any case I expect a great change in charts. Kraken will get a significant position among the current exchanges. They maybe even lead the next big rally prior to the 2016 halving. I bet they'll have the ability to do it and (marketing-wise) they surely proved they're after it. Interesting times folks. Best of luck to us all. Smiley

I think they're distributing everything that they can liquidate but decided on paying the coins as coins and not sell them for FIAT. If I remember correctly you can choose your preferred way of getting your coins back when you file your request with Kraken!

That is just a survey for now. If and when Kobayashi is ready to distribute the spoils, he may ask for real whether you want BTC or JPY; but he does not know yet whether that will be possible.  That's what I got from the FAQ he posted.

Are the addresses of the 200k Gox coins to be distributed known? Is it possible that some have already been liquidated?

This will require the claim process to be over (Sept. 9) and then the people involved will judge which are eligible to receive funds and which are not. The official word from the Kraken CEO on reddit though specifies that no more than 20% should be expected (fiat & BTC). Better from nothing, but still... Undecided

Don't expect those 200k will be dumped after receival. Most users (including myself) won't bother at all or just add them to their cold wallets. The fraction of coins traded though will be rather difficult not to be a moving factor for the price. This is far away on my chart though. For now the mini pump seems to be over btw... Pity... Sad

I'd definitely wouldn't care trading; but in the case of Kraken if they grant me with a nice amount as promised for letting them claim my funds

I understood that they only give you an exemption from trading fees, not an actual reward.  Isn't that so?

I don't know for sure; I believe they will tend to follow the trading "shares" paradigm from which the creditors can "boost" their credit as a "gift" for their trust. I can't really say.

DutchTrades:
Yes; it was expected today. I think that I've read somewhere that "It will be a very steep way up" if it starts for real. I think I've mentioned a lot of times that any upcoming rally should have the MtGox parameter inside it. We're in the middle of a transition here with (possibly) Kraken taking that role. It's not a coincidence, it was expected. Let's see if they can handle the load. Let's hope they can. They bought the whole infrastructure from MtGox.

Now all they need is their customers. Roll Eyes

I believe that the current pump has to do with MtGox withdrawal process. Here's more info: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179586.msg11161910#msg11161910

Holy schmokes! The ungoxxing is happening  Shocked  So Sept 9th when people receive their funds, is everyone going to cash out, or will they do the free tradining? Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Love Kraken. Do they even know what they're getting into? J/k they'll use it all as marketing.

I'd definitely wouldn't care trading; but in the case of Kraken if they grant me with a nice amount as promised for letting them claim my funds; well... I'll be seriously tempted. Most of us thought that this was a lost case, so what the heck?

Of course they know where they're getting into!!! It's a very nice opportunity to become the next MtGox (customer wise)... Wink

They'll refund 100% of fiat and 100% of btcs? Or just part? And when?

You can rule this possibility out. The MtGox worked on fractional reserve (that means from the 800,000 allegedly "existing" btcs only 200,000 were found). Some good news:
MtGox claim process has been initiated!

GREAT NEWS

but is it safe to hand over the GOX passwords to Kraken ?
I just did it buddy. They know who I am and they offer up to 1M in trading. I don't think it can get any better than this... Smiley
1050  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: April 22, 2015, 11:02:07 AM
I have a friend who has lost his Gox password. Is there a way to reset the password so he can check his balance anf file the claim?

There's a way for that. You're required to create a new pass for the claims process anyway (there's a strong factor authentication routine inside too) so I believe he won't be having any problems.

Some good news:
MtGox claim process has been initiated!

Just received this from Kraken.

Quote
As announced in our November blog post, Kraken was selected by the MtGox trustee after extensive and objective review to assist MtGox creditors in investigating missing Bitcoin, filing claims, and distributing remaining assets.
We are pleased to announce that Kraken is now accepting MtGox creditor claims and offering up to $1 million in free trade volume per creditor as a bonus for claiming funds through Kraken. The claim and payout service through Kraken is available in all areas of operation, including all US states. If you have a claim to file, you can get started by clicking the button below, logging in to your account, and following the instructions under the “MtGox Claim” tab.
Creditors claiming funds with Kraken can expect the following benefits:
100,000 KFEE credits redeemable for up to $1 million in free trading volume at the lowest fee tier of 0.1%
Creditor claim and payout support with live chat and email
Option to receive funds in the form of Bitcoin
An easier and more convenient process from claim to payout

Edit:
I've just enrolled with Kraken for the refund. The process is pretty straight forward, it requires your Username & Pass for MtGox & Personal Info and also forces you to change the password (ie: create a new one) for the MtGox claim site.

Good luck to everyone!

WOW! 6000 BTC market buy and rising!!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Where is it easy to tell that it's been 6000 so far? I assume that's across multiple exchanges.
Finex

Edit: 8000 and counting as we speak! Grin

That is incorrect though, it was not 6000 market buy, there were buys and sells, many trades, but no 6000 market buy.

No one can tell for sure - except he has eyes on the order book. I could bet though that this was not a bunch of "regular" buys and sells if you like. Small fish couldn't have lift such a high bid rate in such a small time. This is definitely a whale (or more) and I can assure you they're Loaded. Wink

Lots of volume in 15 mins. Anyone know what sparked it?

chinese fake voloume created by bots, without any decent buy support, idiots on finex went full leveraged long as usual. its 4 am in china, its just another pump and dump, nothing more.

I don't think it was China this time. Huobi just pushed 1500 so far while Finex keeps pushing market orders up to 8600 BTCs. That's a new!!! Roll Eyes

So, finally there are 2 parts in the equation: We have the REAL people that gave REAL money to buy BTCs off MtGox and we have a bunch of "ghost" accounts, un-verified, that allegedly bought and sold millions of dollars in BTCs and require a share of the pie. Now please tell me; if it was you in the place of Kobayashi; would you be treating the same both parts?

Can you, or anyone else, say any more about these alleged "ghost" accounts? For example, would you consider the phony ones used by Willy and Markus bots to be ghost? Of the 650,000 BTC that went missing, how many of these were held in such accounts? That seems like a very important point that distinguishes Mt. Gox from the typical Ponzi set-up. How would the ghosts accounts be handled by the trustee--pay them off in ghost bitcoins?

Ok. Let's get the facts straight.

1. There were legitimate accounts with all their data verified, even received their physical "MtGox Keys".
2. There were some accounts that were NOT verified, yet again they were able to transact and their accounts were active with real BTC/Money.
3. There were the ghost accounts like Willy and Markus bots which were used by someone to pump and dump the price in order (if we believe the report that recently went out) to manipulate the virtual BTCs and get some Real ones because the MtGox was working on fractional reserve.

Cases #1 and #2 were actual accounts that (even if the 2nd was not verified by the owner) are -even now- able to be matched as non-zero and their transactions could be verified by the log files. The key here is that those accounts should have -at some point, at least once- withdrawn and/or deposited to some other external account. This would have been visible on the ledger and thus would have been verifiable by the time and date of the logged transaction.

In the (rare?) case that the 2nd type of account cannot verify their transactions fall directly to type #3 account.

TL;DR:
We ought to make clear what's real and what's not. There are people for that, doing that for a living; most possible Kobayiashi has them working for him and up until now, got the aforementioned data in his hands as we speak (or he will at some point at the future). For the *REAL* accounts there should be *REAL* rewards as they deserve it. For the fake ones we just forget about it.

PS:
The above expresses just my personal thoughts and nothing more.

...The way I see it, bears are running out of time... buy now or get burnt.  Cool

No, bears aren't running out of time. Even if THE bottom was 3 months ago, considering that the market moves slowly, there should be another 1 - 2 months of relatively low prices.
So "buy now OR get burnt" may turn into "buy now AND get burned", in the bearish scenario. In the bullish one, plenty of time to buy, mega-rally only after the block halving in 2016.

You're right; eventually bears or bulls we're all here for the same reason. More BTCs. I agree that mid 2016 will be a nice time for a mega-rally. I strongly believe though, that the next "bubble" will come earlier. I've once predicted that it'd happen at about this time (April 2015). I later changed my prediction to last August (was awfully wrong). My first call was in something that I had in mind back then - the MtGox salvation. I believed back then that it would've been the most prominent catalyst towards a great rally. Now I don't think so...

Seems that I was wrong at both of my predictions. Tough luck, I suppose. Undecided
1059  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 21, 2015, 12:25:40 PM
I don't believe in TA's but things are not necessarily bearish in my opinion. As predicted earlier in this thread May's the time. Not long before we see some real action; bears are running out of time...

The problem with the month of May is that volume and trading activity tends to die down over the summer months and May seems to be the universally accepted starting point of that phase. I'm kinda afraid of yet another long and dry (no pun intended) summer...

True point. "Sell in May and get away". But don't forget that BTC tends to do opposite things than predicted. Nine out of ten times this is the case. While things seem to eradicate, there's that moment that the reversal starts. I'm not getting delusional here, just pointing out what the story has proven so far if you check the facts.  Roll Eyes

I don't believe in TA's but things are not necessarily bearish in my opinion. As predicted earlier in this thread (also visible on the chart) May's the time. Not long before we see some real action; do you really think that we're going down after 1 year of decline? The way I see it, bears are running out of time... buy now or get burnt.  Cool
