Can I see a picture of your Foam setup?  Also the this screeching sound is not normal as the other S7s are not like this one.  I see other people having same issues and the noise goes way beyond the garage door due to the high pitch vs 2 other S7 which can't be heard thru my entrance door which is a strong fire resistant door.  I will see what support says.  Not sure if it's due to New Year but it's been almost 2 days with no response, they were faster on the response when I was short $18 for my order due to fees just 2 days ago.  What's everyone's experience on the turn around time for response?  Is this normal?

This is brand new and within Warranty period, they should fix it.  I don't think that's asking too much.  If we keep giving in on trying to fix everything or come up with Mickey Mouse solutions, we will continue getting inferior products and  services.

Good Luck. You will not get a response over the whistling fan noise unless you are a high profile customer meaning you order a ton of miners. The little guys cannot get a bad fan replaced and they will tell you to buy one locally.
Yoshi did me a solid by helping out, but even he will tell you China is doing anything for a fan.
May as well put a piece of tape or one of the other suggestions.

I sincerely do wish you the best and I am with you as far as making as much noise as possible.
When I was done wrong I also documented everything and people here on the forum told me to forget it, they had already learned Bitmain isn't going to help. Look at all the people who are waiting on complete miners or hash boards, they could care less about a fan...unfortunately.
As long as they have the market cornered, they make the rules.

^unfortunately true and on-point.
these delta fans are worth at least $10/ea  and are heavy to ship from china, so replacing one will likely cost them up to $15 plus time spend arranging it. Due to minimal manpower, they have bigger things to deal with (this isnt good service though)

These fans are naturally loud, but sometimes theres a defect in there that doesnt read PWM, has a chipped/off-balance fan, bad bearing, etc and as a result can be much higher pitched whine/screech than normal.

your best bet is aftermarket replacement. go find a fan that can meet your airflow needs. 20% fans is about 70-80cfm, 40% fans is 90-100cfm, 80% is likely over 120cfm. a replacement will cost you $15-30 and be a better quality/noiselevel without waiting 1-2 weeks from china

ps: Spondoolies-Tech replaced my bad SP20 fan (had a defect, likely a bad bearing, and was horrifically loud compared to even an Sp10). They were the most stand-up manufacturer for support, but bitmain doesn't give much after-market focus

I stocked on up the S5/S7 fans a while back. I sold about 10 of them already and have I think 10 or 12 left. They are brand new. Never used. I am in the US, so I would only ship in the US. If you want to buy any message me. I do charge a premium, but you can get these a lot cheaper if you look around a little, but more risk.

The fan easily comes off with 4 screws. Remove the fan. Put the fan on top of the foam sheet and outline the fan. Cut away the excess foam. Install foam template onto miner then the fan. Install the fan with the 4 screws. Some times by just having that small gap between the foam fan and the miner frame makes a huge difference in sound. Hey, I agree, you shouldn't have to be doing any of this to a miner that cost that much money, but this is what a bitcoin miner does. This is an example of the foam. Also, difference thickness produces better/worse sound(s) from fan. This did not affect fan performance.

Hi All,

Anyone have this issue where their S7 makes a really loud screeching sound from the FANs but if you place a small cardboard piece to funnel air differently then it would sound like other S7 where it's just rushed Air sound.  Please see image below.  I'm opening a support ticket as the sound is incredibly loud and annoying and over power the noise created by 3 other system by itself.

https://i.imgur.com/ibjVgBY.jpg

Yes - this is a very effective trick at higher RPM. I've found an obstruction placed at the right spot in past the outlet fan works too, and should be better for cooling uniformity.

I believe that this is due to the outlet fan running too unburdened/too low pressure delta in the bitmain design. I think the inlet fan should probably be run at lower RPM than the outlet; the cardboard trick changes things just enough to bring both fans back into a loaded condition.

How do I permanently fix this issue?  The other S7 of the same batch is not behaving this way.  Will fan replacement fix this issue?

Dunno Sad Let me know if you find out? Has anyone looked at the fan RPM implementation on the controller board -- is it amenable to tuning front vs. rear?
I have the same problem, the sound is unberable, and goes through two walls. One s7 is ok the other outputs that wistle sound

I believe the accepted solution for that has been a piece of tape on the intake screen.  I have done it myself on two units.

Shouldn't BitMain replace for our FANs to fix the issue?  We shouldn't have to duct tape or alter our devices to fix a defect when it's within warranty.  What is the usual turn around time for BitMain support?  I have a ticket open with them for 2days and haven't heard back.

The sound is natural to  an with such high rpm and airflow, dissipating 1200W+ in a short tube. The SP20 was equally loud, almost worst at full speeds, most people had to run it <900W if they wanted the fans to spin at a LESS-loud speed. same for gear like the S5, SP10/SP3x

With the software tweak to get fans <20%, noise is actually quite bearable. I have them machine fed 0C outside air, so can keep the volume down without much issue.

20% fan @ 4.7TH with 62-67C temperatures (board 3 is hottest?). noise is as good as the S3
17% fan @ 4.5TH. noise is totally acceptable to be in the main room
15% fan @ 4.3TH. quiet. similar to a game console or desktop computer that has loud(ish) fans

For that fan noise, sometimes just rotating the fan 90 degrees helps. I've also bought foam sheets (like for what kids play with) and put the foam sheet between the jet blaster and mining rig. All my miners are also sitting on foam sheets which cuts down on small vibrations. Foam sheets are like duct tape now. And you can usually get them at the dollar store, so they are cheap.
Happy New Year!

My miners arrived, and got stuck at the customs Sad. They are asking for the invoice (proof of payment) but i still havent heard from Bitmain. I opened a ticket on Friday. I called in USA support, talked about 10min and no help from that guy!!! What should i do guys?

You should have received an email with proof of payment that shows bitcoin converted into USD shortly after you purchased them.  Simply print it and show it to them.

EDIT:  I have noticed my most recent invoice from BITMAIN only shows BTC for payment and no USD conversion.  Maybe the BTC will be sufficient.
I cant give them the BTC invoice, they need the dollar invoice. Fuuuu im screwed

They could care less what the invoice looks like. Make your own invoice, slap the Bitmain logo on it and print it. Obviously throw a little common sense in the mix. Send them all back to CHINA!

Heating a home with natural gas will cost less then the electricity running miners. Gas is pretty cheap. I have natural gas, so I have no idea on what electric or oil would be. In 2.5 months it will be March, winter over in the Northeast US. If everyone spent all the money they spent on buying miners from Bitmain/China and upgrading electricity in the home (S7 time frames) they would of made a profit already. Two months ago BTC was -200. When did everyone start dumping money on the S7's? For BTC to survive we need to stop feeding China. I really laugh when I see users promoting certain non-china pools and then I see them on here buying S7's like donuts. Buying Chinese made mining hardware isn't  the same as mining on one, but it does just feed the China machine that much more - in the grand scheme of things. The Bitcoin "industry" has already indicated this is a problem. Change has to start somewhere.

please point me to a new miner I can buy that is under 2k and not sold by china.

There are none, that's why I chose to buy Bitcoin instead. I purchased S5's when they came out, I guess I want to see this big experiment work out for our children's, children. If it ends up all profit driven then it will never be what it could. Just my opinion, I do not mean to offend anyone.

technically, if you just buy btc and don't mine, you've got no vote on btc policies.

That's how inequality gaps start. Bitcoin is controlled by all Bitcoin users. A quote from somewhere. Smiley

i have S5 units to sell , 9 in stock , as i understand you need 2 hashboard , so 1 miner ...

i can make an offer at 280$ and see how much it will cost to ship ...

I;m sorry. I'm looking for normal prices. 2 S5 hashing boards probably have been running for 24/7, at who knows at what temperatures. I'd rather just just some bitcoin and have my odds go up a little.
Thanks.

Why not just use the Home and End buttons on your keyboard?
Because I don't tie the keyboard to my ass or sit in front of it like you are doing now.

I got my batch 7 online yesterday and the noise is horrible and I used to think S5 is noisy.
Fans run over 4000rpm and blades are about 50C, air is traveling too fast, screams and resonates badly.
3 x DPS-600 powers take 1400W from wall, I tested power draw upto 1600W.

Customs took 1BTC for sale tax but I have "free" electrics as garage is heated with S7 so I maybe ROI some day.

What did you really expect? One S5 with one jet blaster fan was horrible noise pollution. Then, an S7 with two of them running. The temps aren't even the "real" temps. It's just a temp sensor on the board somewhere. I would always add 10 degrees to the temp shown.

Are there any suggestions for replacement fans? Just in case one is broken or they are too loud?
Greetings,
me

I have several brand new S7 fans. $25. US. PM if interested.

So with that said am amusing they are going to be doing some form of an import to it and user status or it going to be a wipe out and fresh start. Any details or information relating to old to new migration if to take place?
A fresh start would probably make 99% of the users unhappy so that is not going to happen. All the data from this forum will be transferred to the new one.

It's a database. All this place ever needed was a professional and some experience. We aren't launching rockets here.

Kind of off topic but has Bitmains minerlink ever worked?  Is it kind of an abandoned project or what?

i tried setting it up but it doesn't seem to work. Is there any other way to manage multiple antminers efficiently ?

Switched PDU(s) and Teamviewer with an extra computer on premise is an easy way.

Go with teamviewer it woks very nicely.  If you have a iphone or android smart phone it does have apps, where you can log into computer from phone.  This is a very nice thing when on the go.

As far as minerlink I don't think it ever turned into anything.  I think they have a IP scanner up on that site.. but nothing useful as far as controlling machines.

Be careful with Teamviewer. As they do have a "free" version that will eventually change to a subscription model one day. This is entirely a speculation on my part, but usually when a software is free and gets really popular they either get bought out by another company or the free goes away.

Price gauging, greed and hating ebay has caused it hard to find a couple S5 hashing boards.
PM if you have a reasonable offer. I am in the US and will be basing the value in USD.
Thanks.
59  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: November 30, 2015, 02:53:26 AM

Thanks.
I'll forward the info/price to my Dad and see if he is interested. What version is on the boards themselves?

V1.7

Sorry, I just noticed the BTC. I rushed viewing the post. I'm basing my value in USD, so that comes to over $180. Do you mean one (1) hashing board or two (2)? I only paid little over $300 for each S5 when they were selling months ago. In you do indeed mean $180 for (1) one hashing board that's way to much. I have a feeling you are including a very expensive shipping method out of the US, right?

Now I'm thinking of maybe selling off my S5's if I can get prices like that. Smiley

Shipping with air mail, 7-9 working days.

This is OK , if it is too expensive for you. I've been selling for the same price S5 blades  to Canada and to the US  even in this month.
It's not my fault that BTC's price rises, and now consider all buyers the price of spare parts with USD. She still mine BTC,  and I can sell the whole miner for 1-1.2 BTC I do not have to sell it in  parts.

My only reason for selling is that I do not have more power Wink
and  Bitmain already sent me 2 xS7 from Batch6 and 2 x S7  from patch 7. I did not expect them so early.

That's ok. Thanks for the offer. I have to value the BTC in accordance with USD value, just as Bitmain does to make most profit. I assume you are doing the same. S5 blases are all over the price and I think i'll dcore one for less the $200 with the controller. Yaaypp.
60  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: November 30, 2015, 02:33:52 AM
One of the weirdest issues. If one hashing board dies out, you'd figure at least the other one will work. All configurations were tried. Different controller, cables, PSU. Ok, so concluded that one hashing board died. Fine. Thought could get the other "good" board hashing, but that won't even hash. Restored image from SD card. Tried different firmwares. The webGUI pages come right up fine but hashing speed just indicates 0. The other "good" board doesn't want to hash either, but indicates all zeroes. The controller was put on another rig and hashed fine. The only thing I could possibly think is this rig got ZAPPED electrically somehow.

After flipping the hash boards.

This is the log, hard to dicypher if you aren't a programmer.

http://pastebin.com/7izjejfX

what firmware version you use for it?
i already detached 2 broken bitmain chipset, but in the webgui still show 30 chips

I've tried Bitmain's April and October firmwares. The October version is when they introduced the fan control. Oddly enough one hashing board died out, then it took a couple of weeks for the other hashing board to die out. The power supply physically tests ok, so the only possible explanation I can think of is dirty electric or an electric outage while my Das wasn't home and zapped that particular unit. It surprises me both boards died. I think a Gremlin got into the electrical system and wanted to take that miner out. Now it boots, webgui responds good but doesn't connect to any pool with the "good" hashing board. I'm still reviewing the logs, but they're really debug logs, and if you don't know the programming it is kind of useless. Good luck with yours.
