141  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: July 03, 2015, 01:05:30 AM
Hello! Recently I bought 17 pcs. of Antminer S5 from Russian reseller Igorgan1983 . A couple of days ago when the Internet access lost during the night, the temperature at hashing boards on 4 of miners was about 100-125 degrees, the fans was spinning at some minimum speed, so these 4 S5s has been burnt. After rebooting, the status of it's chips was -------. Now I sent all 4 units to reseller and he sent them to China. For shipping these miners back to China I will have to pay around 7000-8000 roubles.

Thereby, I have following questions:

1. Is it possible to compensate the shipping cost of transfer S5s to China?
2. Is it possible to accelerate the process of consideration of my case (there has been passed almost a week since the blades has arrived to China)?
3. Among the 17 S5s one has arrived to me in a used condition (blades version 1.7), I have already sent a pictures of it to you before - can it be replaced with completely new one?
4. When will be issued a firmware that fixes a bug with S5s overheating during the absence of the Internet access?

Known bug first reported by me in March 2015. I almost burnt up all my miners twice because of this. Then put my fans on direct. Any miners burnt up because of this bug should be replaced for free. Yoshi has helped me in the past, is he still around?

142  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 + Laser cutter mods... on: June 14, 2015, 12:12:48 PM
I already tried all that. I tinker with fixing watches and I had some of those semi-soft, malleable mats that a watch maker would work on. I sat a couple miners on it and since it was semi-soft it filled up any small cracks or holes. Temps stayed the same, didn't matter. I have also tried closing off the entire bottom and top with some thin aluminum I had. Sealed just about everywhere, and there was no difference.

NOTE: When the miners all had stock fans, doing the seal up did have a small affect when ambient temps increased a little. So I can't say it doesn't work at all, but when using two of the Noctura ippc 3000 fans no matter what I did the temps were always the same regardless of what I did. I have a feeling the stock fan just blows loud and all over the place and the Noctura fans are very directional and don't need such a setup. When watching TV in just the next room, even with the door open I don't hear anything. If I had the blasters (stock fans) on them I would always hear that hum/whine. I'm sticking with my expensive Noctura's. Never saw such good performing fans. I also bought two of those Sythe fans from Amazon and even though they are 38mm thick, they couldn't keep up with the Noctura's.

I have lots of fans. I have 10 or 15 brand new STOCK S5 fans that I received from Bitmain a while ago, plus another 6 STOCK S5 fans that I used for about 2 weeks. If anyone in the US interested in S5 STOCK fans, let me know.
143  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 + Laser cutter mods... on: June 14, 2015, 12:58:22 AM
Just throwing another picture out. These are some of my miners. I have also purchased about 20 different fans and tried MANY different setups to keep these guys cool. Surrounding the miner, like putting a case around it did nothing. Temps stayed the same. The stock fans were a little too loud so I'm using 2 Noctura Industrial 3000's in a push/pull with no extra boxes or ducts. Temps keep stable and consistent at 57-60. I do have air conditioning, so of course that is a huge factor in temps. The air conditioning would be powered on regardless if the miners were there or not, so it is no extra expense for me. Although I do have to say around 3pm EST USA if the temps outside hit 95+ the room does heat up and temps will climb to a max of 63 (only with door closed), soon as I open the room door the heat just shoots out of the room into the rest of the house, which is also air conditioned and I would imagine the extra heat is expelled by the AC system. I can keep the room door closed %100 of the time, but I do not like 63c. I did think of just ducting the heat right out the window, but not good figuring out such a complicated duct system with the 6 miners in that room. How to expel the individual heat flow from 6 miners out the window would be something interesting to see work. I wish I could come up with something but haven't figured it out. So things will stay the way they are for now, they are working good and temps in check. If no air conditioning in the house, the miners would probably have blown up by now.

Temp sensor on the S5. Hard to find.

Not mine, from a photo I grabbed a while ago.

Very nice indeed! Good work with all that! I see you also took the Scythe Ultra Kaze fans. They really are the best choice.

What I would suggest is try getting some mini heatsinks to glue them on the outside and see if that drops the temps. In your case they should drop them more than they do in open case versions. On my first miner, which came without external heatsinks, I used these: www.ebay.com/itm/171764372281. Glued them on with this thermal adhesive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111172816819
I got a price of $30.00 for 60 heatsinks, so if you're buying them, make sure you click "Make offer" instead of just buying them at stated price.

I would definitely prefer to have acrylic side panels on my miners. You have me a very nice idea. Cheesy

I bought these a while back but haven't used them yet. They also have thermal paste on there already sealed by like a sticker you need peel off. Press it on the chip and you are done! Remember, the thinnest layer of any thermal paste/grease is best for dissipating heat. That's why these are great, since the thermal "stuff" on these already is paper thin.

i can confirm the temp problems without internet.
just today my internet went down for about 30 minutes..

they started beeping as usual when it detects no internet and all the fans turned off. i pretty much ignored it and went on doing what i was doing.
after a few minutes i noticed the s5 beep turned into a solid tone.. ive never heard that before.

i went to check it and when i touched the heat sink and it was so hot i couldn't put my finger on it. the fans were not spinning very fast and really hot air was coming out the back. i instantly shut it down.

the internet is back on again, it seems to be working ok.. today was the final day of my 90 day warranty.. i hope i dont have any problems because of this.

this is a problem and a potential fire hazard.. had i not been home who knows what would have happened.

i went and put the fan on a molex adapter.. its not ideal since its now at full speed.. but if the internet shuts off again the fan wont stop.

email bitmain START TALKING TO THEM NOW

Bitmain is already working on this issue, so wait for new S5 firmware.

Really? This issue was reported maybe 2 months ago by me. I don't think there will be an update.

EDIT:
Here you go, this is when I first mentioned this problem. This was back in March!!!

Shocked we haven't heard of burnt up miners because of this. I was the first one to report/post about this issue many pages back and it still being discussed. Since I put all my miners on the "always on" molex connections I don't need to worry about any overheating again. I also removed stock fans and use two Noctura Industrial fans which do keep temps in check, even in this 95 degree temps in NJ. Worth the extra money. Those fans have a 6 year warranty and have been superb from day one. They will outlast the miners and then I'll use them in a couple computer builds. All PWM too.

Is there a reason why Ghash is not in the list of Pools to setup? Is there a way I can setup Ghash?
All that paranoia about a take over. Never came close. I ask people why they don't like Ghash and they can't really tell me why. They just go along with whatever everyone else is saying.

Found out it turned out to be my VPS firewall for some reason was blocking it from connecting. Maybe because it was using a non-standard port other than 80. Soon as I ignored my IP address they came right up. I had to deal with my router firewall and then my VPS firewall.

151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: cryptoGlance [v2.1] :: Open-source, self-hosted, multi-rig monitoring tool! on: June 08, 2015, 05:25:11 PM
I've always used Crypto on my VPS, has worked good. Recently I had to update my router's firmware, so all the port forwarding was removed. Nothing else changed. Now I can't get Crypto to sucessfully load up any of my rigs. They are all S5's. I must be forgetting something real stupid in the router port forwarding area.

Here is what one of the port forwarding lines looks like.

Name               Range            Local IP                 Local Port                TCP/UDP
Miner 101        1001           192.168.1.101        4028                        TCP

And then when I setup a "rig" using Cryptoglance add panel the label will be whatever, Hostname/IP will be my cable modems IP address. API port would be 1001. And algorithm will be SHA-256.

According to me, that should forward my IP ADDRESS using that port 1001 to the internal of 4028 and grab the info. I just had it working on my old firmware. I really don't want to flash back.  Does this look correct? I'm think I'm having a "senior" moment here.

Hmmm.... I think I could be one of the following:
1) Are the miners actually configured to port 4028?
2) Has the VPS changed IP?
3) It might be taking longer than 2 seconds to connect to the rig. Try using the debug tool (press CTrl+D) and try connecting to one of the miners.

1. They have always been configured to 4028. Will confirm that with a port scan.
2. The VPS has been the same. I even reinstalled CryptoGlance a few times. And rebooted the VPS.
3. Will try the debug tool and report back.

How many times is this place going to get hacked and beat up? Now on two years saying the forum SW will be updated from the thousands and thousands of dollars in donations. Are we all missing something? Jesus, even try discourse if you have to.

anyone know how to change the http port from 80 on the S5? i want to port forward to it and i need my second one on a different port.

You don't change the S5's port, you change the port in your firewall. Look into getting a program called CryptoGlance.
155  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: June 07, 2015, 06:09:59 AM
@Bitmain

Is there any information as to what adhesive heat sinks would be appropriate to install on the S5 outer blades to help reduce temperature?  It's getting to Summer and if you can share an effective modification, that would be great.  I yesterday further under-clocked my six already under-clocked S5s from 312MHz to 300MHz so as to stay under 65C.

Thanks -- Trevor

Most of those tiny little heatsinks already have a very think layer of paste on them. Usually protected by a think piece of plastic. Just remove the plastic and stick on the heatsink. Once temps start to rise and "soften" and "melt" the paste it will cure maybe in 24-36 hours.
156  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: June 07, 2015, 05:58:47 AM
Yes, but aren't S5's known to sometimes overheat when the internet goes down and there's no hashing going on?  I personally added a rear fan and wired it to a full 12v so it's always running full out even if the internet goes down and the controller board signals slow or no fan speed.

I have a pair of S5's that do indeed heat up when the internet goes down.  Others don't have that problem.  I would suggest S5 users, kill their modem to force a test on their S5's to see how their's react with no internet.  My fans slow way down, but the heat goes way up.  YMMV

There are pages and pages in this thread that talk about the same runaways temps when the Internet drops out or a problem with the pool. Users have posted screen shots and everything. Nothing was really done about it. This is nothing new.

In the end, AntMiner was shipping all used, refurbs as new hardware out. I don't think I would order again unless it actually specified it was NEW, unused hardware. And then to pay the price $340 that it has been for a couple of months still. Should be $150.

Why can't 1.5 million USD donated in bitcoin protect this forum from attack?
Is there any proof that the entire 1.5 million went into this forum & not into theymos' Carribean Island retirement pot?
Wallet transactions etc?

There is actually , here is his wallet as far as I know : https://blockchain.info/address/1M4yNbSCwSMFLF9BaLqzoo2to1WHtZrPke
Source is from here , those are people who are helding the money of the forum (which is not out yet ) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155000.0

@Theymos , thanks for your hard work .. a question tho ... if we don't change password and that password isn't the same as our email adresses then we should be good right ? just curious i will change my pass anyway

That's just one donation wallet. It was supposed to be spread around last year when bitcoin was really high. So you may want to at least triple that number. 6 million dollars in donations. Although we will never know the true numbers. He just happen to be at the right place, right time. BAM and people donated like crazy to keep the site up. I'm not complaining, because I donated myself (knowing the forum had millions of dollars) but really thought security and features, and updates would be top priority here. You can have the sweetest forum running on the Internet. I say try out discourse.
159  Other / Meta / Re: About the recent server compromise on: May 25, 2015, 04:19:41 PM
On May 22 at 00:56 UTC, an attacker gained root access to the forum's server. He then proceeded to try to acquire a dump of the forum's database before I noticed this at around 1:08 and shut down the server. In the intervening time, it seems that he was able to collect some or all of the "members" table. You should assume that the following information about your account was leaked:
- Email address
- Password hash (see below)
- Last-used IP address and registration IP address
- Secret question and a basic (not brute-force-resistant) hash of your secret answer
- Various settings

As such, you should change your password here and anywhere else you used that same password. You should disable your secret question and assume that the attacker now knows your answer to your secret question. You should prepare to receive phishing emails at your forum email address.

While nothing can ever be ruled out in these sorts of situations, I do not believe that the attacker was able to collect any personal messages or other sensitive data beyond what I listed above.

Passwords are hashed with 7500 rounds of sha256crypt. This is pretty good, but certainly not beyond attack. Note that even though SHA-256 is used here, sha256crypt is different enough from Bitcoin's SHA-256d PoW algorithm that Bitcoin mining ASICs almost certainly cannot be modified to crack forum passwords.

I will now go into detail about how well you can expect your password to fare against a determined attacker. However, regardless of how strong your password is, the only prudent course of action is for you to immediately change your password here and everywhere else you used it or a similar password.

The following table shows how long it will take on average for a rather powerful attacker to recover RANDOM passwords using current technology, depending on the password's alphabet and length. If your password is not completely random (ie. generated with the help of dice or a computer random number generator), then you should assume that your password is already broken.

It is not especially helpful to turn words into leetspeak or put stuff between words. If you have a password like "w0rd71Voc4b", then you should count that as just 2 words to be safe. In reality, your extra stuff will slow an attacker down, but the effect is probably much less than you'd think. Again, the times listed in the table only apply if the words were chosen at random from a word list. If the words are significant in any way, and especially if they form a grammatical sentence or are a quote from a book/webpage/article/etc., then you should consider your password to be broken.

Code:
Estimated time (conservative) for an attacker to break randomly-constructed
bitcointalk.org passwords with current technology

s=second; m=minute; h=hour; d=day; y=year; ky=1000 years; My=1 million years

Password length  a-z  a-zA-Z  a-zA-Z0-9  <all standard>
              8    0      3s        12s              2m
              9    0      2m        13m              3h
             10   8s      2h        13h             13d
             11   3m      5d        34d              1y
             12   1h    261d         3y            260y
             13   1d     37y       366y            22ky
             14  43d   1938y       22ky             1My
             15   1y   100ky        1My           160My
-------------------------------------------------------
         1 word  0
        2 words  0
        3 words  0
        4 words  3m
        5 words  19d
        6 words  405y
        7 words  3My

Each password has its own 12-byte random salt, so it isn't possible to attack more than one password with the same work. If it takes someone 5 days to recover your password, that time will all have to be spent on your password. Therefore, it's likely that only weak passwords will be recovered en masse -- more complicated passwords will be recovered only in targeted attacks against certain people.

Searching is temporarily disabled, though it won't be disabled for as long as last time because I improved the reindexing code.

If you changed your password in the short time when the forum was online a little over a day ago, the change didn't stick. You'll have to change it again.

How the compromise happened:

The attacker was able to acquire KVM access credentials for the server. The investigation into how this was possible is still ongoing, so I don't know everything, and I don't yet want to publish everything that I do know, but it seems almost certain that it was a problem on the ISP's end.

After he got KVM access, the attacker convinced the ISP NFOrce that he was me (using his KVM access as part of his evidence) and said that he had locked himself out of the server. So NFOrce reset the server's root password for him, giving him complete access to the server and bypassing most of our carefully-designed security measures. I originally assumed that the attacker gained access entirely via social engineering, but later investigation showed that this was probably only part of the overall attack. As far as I know, NFOrce's overall security practices are no worse than average.

To reduce downtime and avoid temporarily-broken features, I was originally going to stay in NFOrce's data center. However, some things made me suspicious and I moved everything elsewhere. That's where the extra day+ of downtime came from after a short period of uptime. No additional data was leaked.

The forum will pay up to 15 XAU (converted to BTC) for information about the attacker's real-world identity. Exact payment amounts will depend on the quality and usefulness of information as well as what information I've already acquired, but if for example you're the first person to contact me and your info allows me to successfully prosecute this person, then you will get the full 15 XAU. You need to actually convince me that your info is accurate -- just sending me someone's name is useless.

The attacker used the following IPs/email:
37.48.77.227
66.172.27.160
lopaz291@safe-mail.net

Thanks for the info, but don't you think it is time you really take some of those donations and upgrade this forum software? There are quite a few new styles out there that are really nice. This pretty much static version has been around and looked the same since it was installed. And last year when there was a thread about how you had so much bitcoin worth millions of dollars I think it was, you wanted other user's to hold on to it in case some of it was lost. Why can't you take some of those donations, build a brand new dedicated box, hire one of the best programmers you can find and get this forum software out of the dark ages?

They said during year, but who knows if that will happen finally

They have been saying that for years now. I have a strong feeling all those donation are paying for a couple user's really nice lifestyle.
