281  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: March 19, 2015, 07:32:51 AM
Dogie, I read your setup page of the S5 and this is a quote from that setup guide:

"What temperatures should I aim for?   - Try and achieve <50 for best hash rates, and <60 for long lifetimes. Temperatures should not
be let to rise above 80C."

This confuses me. Even the stock fan at pretty low ambient temps can't keep the S5 less than 50c.  How would one even obtain <50c? Then I saw in another post you wrote that running the S5 24/7 at 65c is just fine and would be no problem. Can we get a confirmation from BitmainWarranty on the optimal running temps of the S5? There must be three temp sensors onboard, since CryptoGlance reports three different temp readings. I just want to make sure we all know the operating range of temps of this unit when so many have been reported.

Thanks!
282  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: An Antminer S5 review by klondike_bar; the loud, affordable miner on: March 19, 2015, 05:15:10 AM
These are the specs on the S5 stock fan.

Dimension: 120*120*38mm
Voltage: 12V
Start voltage: ≧8V (Power ON/OFF)
Power consumption: 1600RPM 1.68W / 4000RPM 25.8W
Rated current: DutyCycle 100% @ 2.15A
Air Flow: 4000RPM @ 178.3CFM (Max be 239CFM)
Noise: 4000RPM @ 56.7 dB-A (Measured in a Non-EchoChamber)
Life Expectancy: 40,000 hrs @ 25℃  (May degrade faster at higher temperature)
Connector: 2510-4P

To replace this kind of fan to make the rig more quiet, you need to find a two fans that are either 25mm or 38mm thick, at least 3000 RPM's, have a CFM of 150 or more and a dB noise rating of less then 40 dB. And folks, let me tell you, it is impossible to find. The only thing that comes close is the expensive Noctua NF12-F12 IPPC 3000. 43dB, 109CFM and have to use both. I have been searching for two 120mm x 38mm fans that can push at least 150 CFM, spin up to 3000, have 4 pin PWM control and a dB rating of less than 40 dB. Impossible to find, since most of them have a high noisei dB rating.

So I stuck with the two high priced Noctua's priced at $24 each and each having a 6 year warranty. By all means they aren't silent but much better than anything I can find. Good luck.

It's good to be back Smiley Finally ditched ghash.io.

Go Team America !

EDIT: eleuthria, could you please check PM ?

Can't connect to the guild after several reboots. All three miners are not able to re-connect. No choice but to move on to another pool.

284  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: March 18, 2015, 11:35:51 PM
Mine definitely do not have the time right. They're stuck Jan 2000 something. No changes in the local network though.
Also, Eligius is having problems since 2 days ago .. if you have your miners there.

Aren't you getting tired of seeing "MUCH MORE TO COME - PLEASE BE PATIENT" on the Eligius screens? They've only been there over a year, right? That pool needs some refinement and updating...just like this forum software does.
285  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: March 18, 2015, 11:31:28 PM
I tried Cryptoglance and it looks pretty nice. Although since the graphics are so large you can't get that much on the screen at once. If you had a few rigs, then it would fit. But if you had over 10-15, where would they all fit....besides just scrolling up and down all the time.

Also, how many temp sensors does the S5 have? Crypto indicates there are three (3) temperatures, and they all are different.

And what is your reject rate? I read someone had high reject rates. What would be the normal range or percentage of rejects?

286  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: March 18, 2015, 11:23:17 PM
There's a time and place for everything. I feel as a representative of a business you should not be using them. I own a small online store.
I own a small business too.  I infrequently use emoticons in my business emails.  I hate the written word because it's difficult to tell the intent and emotion of the writer.  I don't feel that emoticons should be a taboo for business emails.  They should be used sparingly.  I must have the right balance, having just celebrated 15 years in business.  I never had a client complain, yet.

Having said that, I think sidehack already said it perfectly:

But when your entire reply to a valid question a paying customer has about the machines he purchased is a series of emoticons, there's room to complain. It's basically dismissing the question offhand (and in a manner which could be seen as condescending), which is rude.
Bitmain reps here, do need help in the appropriate use of emoticons.

Exactly the attitude that makes BTC appear supremely suspect as a medium of commerce.  The recipient clearly has no responsibility to provide equitable value!
Whether the exchange is in Bitcoin or something else, whether transacted online or on mainstreet, it's all the same - you can get scammed or have a bad experience.  more than once I've recieved a less than proper amount of cash back at a mainstreet (KFC) business. It's a matter of knowing the rules of the transaction - the means of value exchange (BTC, USD, IQD, Euro, etc) has nothing to do with the transaction.  Have a problem with rules? Then that's a different discussion.

Guess I was wrong Dogie, you are purely a lackey of Bitmain!
You barked up the tree with Dogie on this one.  I'm grateful for his, and everyone's good help here.  I'll also speak up with him or others when they are wrong.

A bunch of grown men (hopefully) talking about the use of emoticons. Please, can we just stop this and get back on track. I'm not saying this of offend anyone, but if you want to talk about emoticons I'm sure there is a whole forum somewhere dedicated to them.

287  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: March 18, 2015, 04:17:04 AM
Colorado

That explains a lot.

*** Emoticon will continue to be used under this account.  This is a community forum and the MOD placed the emoticon to be used.  It is not simply the business communication platform.

Gun stores provide Guns and ammo. Does that mean that I should start shooting up the place because they made the guns and ammo available to be used? There's a time and place for everything. I feel as a representative of a business you should not be using them. I own a small online store. I have 8 people working for me. Two of them work the different social media outlets. I would fire them if they used emoticons. When they respond to customers to address a problem or explain a product or anything else they represent my company. On their own facebook or twitter accounts I don't care what they choose to post. Now, if my business was to make and sell emoticons, then I would emoticon every post or update I made, but I don't, so I don't. I would like for my customers if they do run into a problem with my product to believe that they could contact me and get the problem resolved, instead of asking for help and getting  Grin Grin Grin as a response.

But you know it's just my opinion. I have no confidence in clowns, and that is what I feel your portraying Bitmain Tech as. Until I see a change I will not place any orders with Bitmain, because if for any reason I do have an issue with their product I don't want  Grin Grin Grin as a response to me losing money.

I have said my peace and will not make any further comments on this issue. Yes, it is an issue whether you believe it to be or not. I know some people are placing orders with Bitmain because they are the only one taking orders right now. I hope no has any problems with the equipment they have ordered. good luck to everyone in their mining adventures.

You stooped so low you are complaining about emoticons . Man, does it really matter if someone used emoticons or not. Please let it go dude.

288  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.93 testing release! (with 0.05 BTC bug bounty) on: March 17, 2015, 06:00:08 AM
Edit: "Rebuild and Rescan Databases" from the Help menu fixed it.

Windows 8.1 x64
I have bitcoin core 0.10 installed and Armory 0.93.0.82 running. I sent a transaction to my Armory wallet from a web wallet. Originally it showed as having received the transaction and 0 confirmations but it never went above 0 confirmations even though online block explorers showed it as having been confirmed many times. Then I realized that Armory shows "connected" in the bottom right but the block count isn't increasing. It is still stuck on block 347509 while current block count shows 347813. But Armory shows as connected and Green.

I ran bitcoin-qt and it showed the correct number of blocks.

I tried "Rescan Databases" from the Help menu but that doesn't seem to have fixed it.

This happened to me to, freaked me out. Saw it in the blockchain, but not the Armory which would show up instantly with no confirmation and eventually turn green. Just never updated. I'll refrain from using the client since there are more bugs now than the previous version. I just hope I don't need to send any coin to anyone for something.
289  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: BDM error? on: March 17, 2015, 05:55:10 AM
I installed 93.0.70 which was supposed to take care of those BDM errors but they are back again. Every time I open the Armory I get that error and it wants to re-scan when I open it back up. Is there any light in the future when this bug will be resolved?

latest test build (0.93.0.82) here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=919202.msg10765420#msg10765420

It has improved handling of BDM errors, try it out (cautiously).

93.0.70 supposed to take care of BDM errors.
93.0.80 supposed to take care of BDM errors.
Now 93.0.82 supposed to take care of BDM, but with a caution.
This all makes me weary a little.
290  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: March 17, 2015, 05:52:18 AM
No the S3s are a bit louder than the c1. Not by much though. I will probably look into swapping fans later if they bother me. Not sure yet. Much quieter than my sp20s tough. Lolol

I don't think I ever noticed the sound on the C1 stock fan. You could probably get away with a 25mm completely silent fan on there, since the coolant is the primary way it cools I bet. I have a couple small servers running in my office and I think my ears are so use to that sound anything less I probably wouldn't even hear. Too bad there are 1,356,495 fans to choose from. Smiley

@Ilan123, I put 2 delta fans on and it is rather quite now, running at 54-56c with an RPM at 2880 for both fans when I last looked. I don't have the P/N with me right now though. My SP20's are about 70db and the S5 about 60db with the new fans. It was louder than my other units before the change but I did not take a reading. Others have the stock db level from the S5 units here though. I will get particulars later like ambient room temp and the P/N for the fans later today.
Fan: Delta AFC1212DE, 12vdc, 1.6A, 3900 RPM, 192.96CFM, 51 dBA, 120mm x120mm x 38mm or equivalent. These came out of some old Dell desktops, Dell P/N: Y4574. Right now room temp 26.1C, blades at 57-55 with the fans at 3K and 3120.

Here is a video with the delta fans installed on the S5. I am using my SP20s for reference. This video was taken with my phone.http://vid1284.photobucket.com/albums/a568/rponce454/MINER%20SOUND-Small_zpsyi3zjhtk.mp4

If you check on this thread : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=907219.280

You will see you need Delta AFB1212SHE

Push pull setup with 2 delta is perfect.

Cheer

Valkir

Those Delta's spec at 53dB. I wonder if two Noctua's are more quiet than those two Delta's. I'm running two Noctua's 3000's and they are around 2250 rpm and are pretty quiet. I do have a sound meter to test with later when I have time.
293  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: March 17, 2015, 05:23:51 AM
Impressive. You are at 675v. What is your frequency?

When you run at 760v. How many watts you are pulling from the wall.

Most efficient test I have and am running them at currently, is 0675v, 800GH/s (200Freq on all 4), no 'x', 804-817GH/s averages, pulling 575-590watts (I have 3 of them running).

I tell you though they are not much quieter than the S3 I have running at 200Mhz/400GH/s.

C1's temps are all 33-35c.

I never ran 076v. Max I ran was 075 @ 250Mhz, 1008GH/s stock. I briefly test 275Mhz @ 1123GH/s but it was pulling 943Watts.  Shocked

I love the idea of under clocking these. Please keep us informed.  Have you tried on multiple to see variance between miners?

Like I mentioned, I am running 3 of them. Underclocked, the C1's are ok, but otherwise, unless you have free or very cheap power, not worth it vs an S5 or better yet an SP20.

I'll be testing some S5's finally in a week or so as I got my hands on a few. We'll see how they compare to the C1. I think the C1 is strictly S3+ boards mated to a watercooled block between them. I'm actually going to look for an enclosed watercooling system that will eliminate the spaghetti of wiring and hoses this system requires. There has to be a way to make it nice and neat.

What's making the noise? If it is the fan on the miner, you can probably replace that with an almost silent fan. I never got that far in trying to replace that stock fan since they were quiet enough for me to have a phone call in the same room. And the fans on the radiator are just 800-1200 speed quiet fans I suspect. They should almost be silent to begin with.  I never owned an S3 rig, so I don't know what they sound like. The S3's are less quiet than the C1?
294  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [PPS 2% fee] NiceHash.com pool - higher profits than direct mining BTC! on: March 17, 2015, 05:15:34 AM
Where would you go to get a good price to input on the password line? I have an S5 that I want to try it out on. The C1's never worked with it at all unless I was mining %100 on Westhash.com.
295  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: March 16, 2015, 04:06:10 AM
I experience the same thing. I need to do a power shutdown every 2 weeks on a machine. Before turning off the power supply which command can I run with SSH to cleanly shutdown the machine?

On the C1s, if I reboot (GUI) they do not come back up cleanly, you have to reset the power switch.

When I say they don't come back up cleanly, I mean the hash rate does not return to the
1000GH/s. Maybe 760 GH/s

Often times the ASICs on chain #2 or chain #3 hashing boards come up all --s or ..s

reboot

@OpenToe

Yoshi asked us to post this for you and others who need this info.

This is the fan spec for S5

Dimension: 120*120*38mm
Voltage: 12V
Start voltage: ≧8V (Power ON/OFF)
Power consumption: 1600RPM 1.68W / 4000RPM 25.8W
Rated current: DutyCycle 100% @ 2.15A
Air Flow: 4000RPM @ 178.3CFM (Max be 239CFM)
Noise: 4000RPM @ 56.7 dB-A (Measured in a Non-EchoChamber)
Life Expectancy: 40,000 hrs @ 25℃  (May degrade faster at higher temperature)
Connector: 2510-4P

you can use alternative fans, but please remember, that will void your warranty.  When you consider other fans, please pay close attention to the Voltage, RPM, CFM and the power connector!!!

S2, S3, S4, S5 and C1 fans will soon be available for sale from USA.

Also, Bitmain does not endorse any third party solutions, however, CryptoGlance is a nice status reporting system Yoshi even uses time to time as well as M's Miner.  (Both solution works for any CGMINER API enabled Bitcoin Miners.

M's Miner Monitor can also interact with the miners and it is not just the status monitoring system.

how can you not love its screaming 7 fans?!?!?!

tried too hard to overclock and i hit 1880gh/s and brick it for the moment Grin
the lower the temps the higher the speed!

That's got a quite old version of cgminer on it. Doesn't support a couple new features that came out in 4.7 or 4.8 I believe. Is Spondoolie going to update their first gen hardware? I would say most of it is still running and probably could use a nice update.

300  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: March 15, 2015, 05:11:02 PM

What is the white large hose doing behind the S5? Exhausting the hot air? The stock fan on the S5 keeps it cool without any additional fans. Maybe overclocking?

Its fresh air from outside to keep the fan as low as possible for the sound. The S5 is in my livingroom with 2 delta fan. They run at about 2000rpm.

I wanted to try other Delta's also. What model(s) did you get and try? Are you using the stock fan plus another 38mm as the pull, which is a Delta? Which model? There are so many.

Even though I'm switching to Noctua's I'd still love to try and slow that stock fan down a little bit. Working harder then it needs to. Slower fan = less noise.
