401  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Backup & Restore from Core? on: December 04, 2017, 02:43:58 AM

Yes. Does your client have a HD symbol on the lower right? If so, then it would definitely be good to just have it backedup once.

Well... it does have "HD" but it has a line through it.  I didn't think it had the line through it, though.
If it has a line through it, then it is NOT using HD, and it must have been created with an older version of the software. However, if you back it up then, it should still be alright. Just don't continue to send money to the backed-up wallet.
402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to access funds sent to a corrupt bitcoin core address on: December 04, 2017, 12:43:29 AM
The original wallet was on my desktop, but I didn't have enough space for all of the blocks. So I had to start one on my laptop. Could I just move the one from my desktop to my laptop?
Yes, you should be able to. Press Win+R to bring up the run menu, type in %appdata% and press enter. Go into the Bitcoin directory, and copy the wallet.dat file into the same directory on your laptop. Replace the file on your laptop, as long as you haven't sent any coins to the wallet on your laptop. If you have, make sure to make a backup of it first.
403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Backup & Restore from Core? on: December 04, 2017, 12:21:52 AM
but still note down your private keys and keep them in a safe

How exactly?  I'm not sure how I would find them.
To do this in Bitcoin Core, you'd need to open the debug console, unlock your wallet with the walletpassphrase command, then use the dumpprivkey command on every address in your wallet that contains coins. This is a laborious process, and it's much easier to simply back up your wallet.dat file (hopefully you encrypted it with a password that you won't forget) which contains the deterministic key for your wallet, meaning if you back up that file, you won't need to replace it with a new version every time you receive coins.
404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to access funds sent to a corrupt bitcoin core address on: December 04, 2017, 12:19:42 AM
Okay I can just replace my newly installed wallet.dat with the old wallet.dat and start the program and the coins will be there?

Thanks for the support!
The wallet.dat file shouldn't have been replaced/removed on uninstall/install. It should be the original one you had, unless you explicitly went in and deleted it (or the directory which contains it, %appdata%\Bitcoin on Windows). So once your wallet is finished downloading the blockchain, you should see the transaction.
405  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Use two nano s ledger wallets, separate wallet accounts? on: December 04, 2017, 12:15:18 AM
In the Bitcoin App (Chrome) you are also able to create several accounts. So, for your use case you do not have to buy a 2nd Ledger.

Mentioned here: https://www.ledgerwallet.com/apps/bitcoin
MULTI-ACCOUNT
All your BIP 44 Bitcoin accounts are managed within a unique interface, where you can send and receive, on-demand, in real-time.

But I like the idea of using two Nanos as they will be less used, less likely for hardware failure, and two different pins, and set ups, and seeds.
And I will spread the risk if something goes wrong with one of them, losing the seed, etc...

I wouldn't get a second ledger, you're just wasting money at that point. You might be interested in the plausible deniability options the Nano S offers. You should have a paper backup of your seed on the card that came with it anyways, so you don't need another device just to store your seed again. Even if your device breaks, if you still have the seed backed up (which you should), you can recover your funds without buying another device by importing it into a supporting wallet (source).
406  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about addresses - different addresses controlled by single private key on: December 04, 2017, 12:08:10 AM
And if I'm importing private key to some kind of wallet software, how wallet determines which address to scan on blockchain and which balance to consider as wallet's balance?/
I believe it depends on the wallet software. So older wallets will be looking for outputs on your legacy outputs, wallets with segwit support will probably scan segwit P2SH addresses (possibly also legacy outputs, depending on the wallet, I don't think many do, if any). So far, the latest version of Electrum is the only wallet I know that supports Bech32, although I might be wrong/outdated on that. And as far as multisig, your wallet would definitely have to be explicitly looking for multisig funds.

AFAIK there shouldn't be any security risks from using the same private key for multiple types of addresses, as the key is just a way to sign a transaction for an output where it can provide the required information to spend with. That said, I still wouldn't do it because it just feels wrong to me. If you want to look into it more, [ur=https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Script]here is the page on the Bitcoin wiki detailing the script system[/url]. It explains how standard (legacy) transactions work, and also script transactions, and all the various opcodes. It's good reading if the technical details are interesting to you.
407  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to access funds sent to a corrupt bitcoin core address on: December 04, 2017, 12:00:05 AM
IIRC Bitcoin Core doesn't wipe the directory with your wallet.dat when you uninstall it, so once you've reinstalled it and it has synced with the network again, you should have your coins.
408  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor vs Ledger nano S. on: December 03, 2017, 10:14:05 PM
Undoubtedly both these products are good and I'd recommend either of them to anyone that needs to take their crypto on the road and may need to make a transaction from any machine, including ones they are uncertain about its integrity.

Ledger Nano S is a recent purchase bought on the grounds it was first to support DigiByte, something important to me.

I also believe that both are great, but I purchased the Nano S, and I'm very satisfied with it. It was cheaper and I believe it will also support Monero before the Trezor, I also love how I can use it as a U2F key, which is kinda fun for the websites that support it.
409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: where do I find my address to be able to receive bitcoins on: December 03, 2017, 10:08:53 PM
I am trying to transfer my bitcoin purchase to my wallet. Where do I find the address to be able to send my bitcoins? Does it automatically populate when I click on receive?
It depends on what wallet you are using, but yes, generally you click "receive" or a similar labeled tab/button and it should give you your Bitcoin address so that other people/websites can send you Bitcoins. Note that most wallets will change this address every time you receive money, but your old addresses will still work.
410  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake.com | The Greatest Bitcoin Gambling Experience Ever! | 12 Exclusive Games on: December 03, 2017, 10:03:20 PM

sir about this image, when i use it on my signature, the image is not as good as others do, its like crap on me when i use it, uhm maybe because of my rank right?

Yes, it's lower user ranks cannot use all the same BBCode in their sigs that higher ranks can. Here is the full table that explains it.
411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Replay Protection BTC/BCC on: December 03, 2017, 04:28:42 PM
I'm going to assume by BCC you mean BCash, which is abbreviated BCH by most exchanges now.

If you send the 0.1 BTC to some exchange without first splitting the coins, you will send BTC to the exchange, and then your transaction will be replayed on the BCH network, sending your BCH to the exchange as well. The problem is the address used by the exchange will not be set up to receive your BCH and you will not be credited with it.

So no, you must split your BCH before attempting to send to a wallet that you don't control (especially an exchange, as they are the least likely to help you if you mess up).
412  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bittrex announces minimum trade size raise and other info on: December 02, 2017, 11:09:22 PM
There's no point short trading alts here then. Anyone know a better alternative than Trex other than Polo?
I've been eyeing HitBTC but I don't know if others have had problems with them. At first glance they look decent enough.

Hitbtc tend to have most of their wallets disabled, which is frustrating.

I think a better solution is to migrate to one of the decentralised exchanges like Openledger:

https://openledger.io/welcome

Decentralized exchanges are not as decentralized as many believe, One of the down sides of them is the high paying fees are required, Another down side is the lack of volume and also not supporting every coin, They only could operate with ETH tokens.

They lack volume because not many people are using them. It's a chicken and egg situation - until people migrate to them, volume won't pick up, and you are stuck with the centralised exchanges.

Are there decentralized exchanges for things other than ERC20 tokens right now? I know there was one for BTC, but did it do altcoins too?
413  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: nano ledger & the bitcoin forks on: December 02, 2017, 06:54:00 AM
I imagine that they would support a fork provided that:

-The value of it was high enough for their users to demand it
-It had a functioning codebase
-It was secure for them to implement support.

However, since "Bitcoin Gold" was an extremely shady group who listed a scam on their website that stole millions of dollars, failed to protect their official client from malware and basically rode off the back of BCH anyway, I find it hard to believe that there's any more relevant forks to come.

Were did you get your info that btg is such a scam, would be interested to hear more.
Not Bitcoin Gold itself. But the wallet created by a random dev that were stealing private-keys/wallet seeds and was linked for some time by the BTG team in the BTG's official website.

That's the one:
https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/7drv3v/scam_warningbitcoin_gold_wallet_stole_all_my/
https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-gold-wallet-scam-nets-3-million-illicit-earnings/

And the more recently fiasco: https://bitcoingold.org/critical-warning-nov-26/

thanks for sharing that. We have to be so careful. its almost possible that someone would create a fork in order to steal private keys like that.
I'm not quite sure it's the devs that did that, just because they already gave themselves plenty of "bounty" coins.
414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will any Crypto Surpass Bitcoin on: December 02, 2017, 06:52:16 AM

For now, there is no any other cryptocurrency that will surpass bitcoin, as you know that the price of bitcoin is increasing incredibly and some other coins are just staying still and getting behind but the fact is that it is not impossible and it can be possible but not today and not in this generation. Probably, soon in the future but no one really can predict it. So lets just hope for the best and all hail bitcoin Grin
I'm not quite sure any cryptocurrency will surpass Bitcoin as far as market cap in the near future, but I think it would be naive to think that Bitcoin is the best cryptocurrency that will ever exist. I think we will see better cryptocurrencies out there, possibly with different applications but better nonetheless.
415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to pass raw transaction from cold storage upon hot node? on: December 01, 2017, 10:27:30 PM
Armory is actually an excellent wallet to do cold storage transactions, however I've always had problems with it not being able to sync/get set up correctly. DarkStar_ is correct, and basically the fee is whatever amount is left over from total_inputs - total_outputs, so make sure you send a change transaction back to yourself.

I agree that they're cool and I'm glad they exist, but they're just not the ebst exchange to use at the moment.
417  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔶 YOLOdice.com 🔶 FAST play/invest, maximum transparency, distributing BTG now on: December 01, 2017, 09:10:42 PM
there is possibility to get full explanation of level's in YOLO?

- I mean how much wager are need to get exact lvl
- and how much rakeback you will get on each lvl etc.
- and how work this "stars" after nicknames. what does it's shows, I think its not only wagared amount, but even total betcount and maybe even other stuff?!

Ethan maybe you have some kind of chart/sheet to share with people?!

thanks.

1 BTC wagered = 1 xp
Rakeback increases by 1% of house edge every level once you unlock it, I think.
The stars unlock at certain levels, but not every level.
418  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Is it possible to get btc's private keys from spectrocoin? on: November 30, 2017, 05:28:13 AM
  • It appears to me that the spectrocoin wallet is not a "real" wallet (i.e. you don't hold the private keys, they do) and that it's impossible to get the private keys.
  • After a quick google I was unable to find any information about them providing BTG to users
  • However, what I did see was a lot of unhappy people and some scam accusations. I'd stay away from spectrocoin and use a real wallet, like Bitcoin Core or Electrum.
419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can't find my bitcoin gold after moving from electrum to ledger nano on: November 30, 2017, 05:24:02 AM
If you sent your BTC to the ledger nano, the transaction was probably replayed on the BTG network if you're seeing 0 balances. Depending on whether or not you're using segwit addresses on your ledger, you'll have different procedures for getting the coins. Make sure not to make any more transactions out of the ledger until you know what you're doing.
