Congratulations to the team and the community behind Expanse!
Some people may say partnering up with Microsoft Azure - BaaS isn't a big deal but for a broader acceptation and implementation it's actually a giant leap forward!
This great news, together with the recent expansion of the team and coming updates the future is looking very bright for Expanse!
What updates? How soon? Any news about updates? I have it written up and I am just waiting on edits / approvals. Short version: Microsoft Azure is official, and we have 120k funding with Microsoft Bizspark Plus.

We have a great team with lots of new additions, and Marcia is certainly a professional with a great deal of experience in the traditional world of finance. I love having her on the team as she really is a great person, and she provides a wealth of knowledge, experience, and insight that is valuable to Expanse.

Expanse has been added officially to Microsoft Azure, and Expanse was also selected for Microsoft Bizspark for 120k USD in services. (I will put out the news for EXP once everyone approves, but it is a done deal, official) By the way, I am holding some DES myself and excited to see where it goes.

This project is already on azure?
nope. we waiting SOON thought it was done already? no?? We're waiting for Bill Gates to finish buying all the cheap coins before he announces EXP is on azure. Seems as if Dev already tweeted about it: https://twitter.com/FrankoCurrency/status/712626152611909633But I would guess it needs an official announcement. I wouldn't tweet until the official announcement. That tweet is actually related to additional news/updates to come.

That example is not being "put on" Azure, that is the devs setting up a template to work with Azure. We did that a long time ago.
|
|
|
I wonder why the devs haven't confirmed it officially yet, maybe it's a package update and new exciting stuff will be released? Looking at the team they have, I can imagine a lot is going on behind the scenes, it's good that these devs have Ethereum like aspirations Any news from some third party would have to come from them first.

Exp marketcap is extremely low, look at http://coinmarketcap.com/ dead coins having 5 or 6 times more marketcap. Let me dream, but i think we can reach 10 millions marketcap. 10kk market cap for a clone coin? Is it all you care about? Communities focused on pumps go nowhere in the end. The community is mostly focused on the future, but of course many traders are just in it for the profits, and that is fine. It really doesn't matter as the design allows EXP to be funded for many many years, and that means it will continue to be supported and developed almost for certain. While many other projects run out of funding or were not planned correctly to begin with, Expanse was, and Expanse will last.

DEVS, we are waiting for an update, we could easily have 5-10 times current market cap! I think the update you are looking for will be coming from someone else first, but it will be shared plenty once they put it out.

Is there something wrong with the block explorer? I emptied my wallet a week ago, but explorer says I still have the coins in it.
Can anyone on the dev team answer this? Works fine for me, but best place for tech support is Slack http://slack.expanse.tech/ @danconway Just message him with your issue there and he should be able to help when he has time.

I stand corrected. Thanks. -tb- The update for new people joining the team was simply a little update I was putting out, not "news."

I by far prefer the first one. The second is less professional I think and is more close to what I could do (even if that's still better) ! Will it be tied only to the website or will it be used somewhere else ? Do that mean that you plan to change official Expanse's logo ? Most people prefer the first one so it looks like we are going with that. (Also my favorite) We are doing an upgrade to the branding and also redesigning the website. In time we will get it all switched over and it would be used for everything that a logo would normally be used for. Press releases, announcements, websites, dApps, and so on.

Which do you prefer? This is part of the new website coming, but we also have to submit this to some other company so we are looking for community input, thanks!

Litecoin, PPC, NVC and NMC are just Bitcoin clones...
Except for NVC, all those presented significant innovation, like Scrypt PoW (Litecoin), Proof Of Stake (Peercoin) and Decentralized Domain Name Registry (Namecoin). Even though they were forked off the BTC codebase, the quantity and quality of unique code is high enough to distinguish them from simple clones. Litecoin was also a clone. Tenebrix came first, then Fairbrix, and I believe a tweaked version of Fairbrix is finally what became Litecoin. Those earlier coins are lost to time and most people assume Litecoin had innovation, and it did, but that innovation started with Tenebrix that most people forgot about. ... I support open source projects myself as that allows for more experimentation and innovation, and we have been doing small changes the entire time. The more it is changed the more time consuming everything becomes, so we don't want to vary everything too much initially, as ETH is still in the easiest stages and major changes are happening all the time. I do think we might vary significantly after POS starts, at least I have an interesting option if I could get everyone to agree, but that is still in discussion.

How come there's 2M EXP in circulation?
$1,036,090 $ 0.501462 2,066,139 EXP
I think http://coinmarketcap.com/ did not account for mined coins correctly, EXP had a star next to it indicating its not mineable which I see is gone now. We are on a block height of 185978 and a block reward of 8 EXP so there's +-1.5M mined coins in circulation plus some from the dev fund? Yes, that sounds correct. Coinmarketcap just finally got around to updating the API so we have the correct totals now.

How come there's 2M EXP in circulation?
$1,036,090 $ 0.501462 2,066,139 EXP
Nothing has changed other than Coinmarketcap finally has the correct API settings now. There was some glitch when we launched with how they displayed EXP, stating we were not a minable coin when it is one. At last they finally have it corrected now. Thank you Coinmarketcap for getting that updated for us

I may have thought up an actual use case for Expanse. It could be marketed to Ethereum DApp developers as a sort of "live" testnet.
Ethereum has a testnet on its own, but it seems to me that a traded coin with a real userbase can provide much better simulation of the eventual deployment.
Interesting. Actually wondering if ETH-EXP could be linked to allow for "expanded", second tier, low cost capacity for ETH dApps to run on, that may not require the faster confirmation time and higher security. This could get interesting once the high cost of ETH, or demand based dApp contention ever becomes an issue. Yes, they are welcome to build/test dApps all they like on EXP live. (The lower EXP price means they are much less expensive to actually run) -- The main use case as I see it is the community having the freedom to modify the project as we wish over time, and experiment with different paths/choices. Different block times, counts, rewards, funding design, difficulty settings, and so on. We are not locked in to the exact same choices that ETH makes.

Just wondering, will Expanse be able to integrate with dogecoin in the same way Ethereum is/is trying to?
I think Dogecoin is trying to get into Ethereum rather than the other way around, but there is no reason we could not do the same later. (Assuming open source code for whatever Doge is using)

not much dumping going on, considering that the price was pumped some time ago, but in any case dev, do you appear to consider a merged mining with some other coin in the future?
We are considering a variety of possibilities. I think the idea of going hybrid POW/POS is interesting, as ETH will no longer be able to be mined, and we could get massive extra hash power that way. Better for long term distribution and we can still easily control inflation. POS only is likely the leading option, then POW/POS Hybrid, then something else that is a new type of hybrid is another option (if everyone agreed). As for merge mining, a lot of the hyped alt coin merge mining algos are pretty bad, but if there was a secure option that could be interesting.
