well, yea. but people are dumb and lazy and...

ok, i got nothing.
422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block issue SOLVED!? Extension Blocks on: April 05, 2017, 07:42:08 PM
the OPTION of so called witness nodes, as i understand them, sounds good. similar to SPV wallets, like what i use on my phone (android bitcoin wallet) that doesn't the full blockchain on hand, right? please correct me if i'm wrong.

but forcing that, making it such that running a full node is unmanageable for the average techy geek... that worries me.

and yea, the average techy geek would have the best home user internet they could get, and and excess of computing power and storage space. i do, and i'm not even employed right now.

ok, except the internet part... stupid middle of no where... but hey, my phone doesn't have a data limit. it mostly works.
423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Erik Voorhees: SegWit should be activated on: April 05, 2017, 07:35:50 PM
SegWit can revitalize Bitcoin while Bitcoin Unlimited can only create another wall between users.
You don't believe it? Just check up what is happening to Litecoin, they are on a brink of SegWit's activation.
The price of LTC is soaring, media attention is higher than ever and community is positively thrilled.

http://litecoinblockhalf.com/segwit.php Litecoin is only ~6% away from a major breakthrough.

Funny, because Litecoin blocks are nowhere near full.  Also, they lowered the activation threshold to 75%, so we'll see if that causes pain on activation. I predict that some subtle bugs will appear shortly after activation. Then we can thank our lucky stars that the miners are vetoing Segfault.

What a sh*tshow it will be if Litecoin has to roll back Segwit...

Segwit is already live on the Bitcoin testnet.
Even some LN payments are going through Wink
Don't be so pessimistic.

but pessimism is all we HAVE!! don't take away our hate and FREEDOM!

...the above is sarcastic, if you can't tell.

Just a prediction. Perhaps a wager would be in order?

No hate. Are you selling any other straw men?

i know this wasn't in response to me, but -

i've got a kidney i could spare. i'll sell ya that! maybe half a liver? seriously, these are my assets these days... *cough*

425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SegWit2MB does nothing at all to fix the real problem on: April 05, 2017, 06:42:48 AM
So BU is the answer? where only a big mining farm owning almost half the hash power wants to increase the block size as long as there are transactions in the mempool, but would they just and only change the blocksize without changing anything else?

It doesn't necessarily have to be the miners in charge, but it shouldn't be developers either.

- Olivier Janssens

yup. should have been done that way from day -1. never should have released the software without it. now we'll never even get the consensus needed to implement this, because it would still be a fork.

Honestly I feel this "HF are bad" stuff is propaganda.  Other cryptos have done hard forks where everyone agrees and knows whats going on and there hasn't been any fall out afaik....

but that's the point. we don't HAVE consensus. everyone doesn't agree. and they never WILL. therefore, any fork, under such a case as we have, will result in chaos.
426  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 05, 2017, 01:25:40 AM
Yup. I was wrong. SegWit has cut a deal with BU. We are going to fork. RIP.
everyone hates Segwit2mb

yet there's what, 30% signaling for it?

or am i mistaken?

I'm pretty new to all of the functions and services available for Bitcoin, so thanks for sharing  Smiley

Honestly, I've only been using my BTC as an investment. I might try a few of these gambling sites haha.

"and a short while later, Squadus found his BTC balance hovering around a few satoshi, the dust remaining from a wild week of failed gambling..."
429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Erik Voorhees: SegWit should be activated on: April 04, 2017, 10:19:06 PM
>90% Core full nodes
it will be hard to explain that in fact 90% support BU
let's activate segwit
miners do their job or users will do UASF

prove it. with facts.

there is no proof for 90% support for anything in bitcoinland. it doesn't exist. except maybe greed, and i seriously doubt there's a 90% agreement on that.

edit: we're never going to reach any consensus about this scaling thing, not BU, not core, not segwit. i'd honestly be shocked to see any of them reach 60%.
430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block issue SOLVED!? Extension Blocks on: April 04, 2017, 03:47:40 PM
I like this part
Quote
a third option in the scaling debate that would bring about a block size increase and malleability fix via soft fork, or a change that doesn't risk splitting the bitcoin blockchain.

Hard fork will be disaster for bitcoin network. Haven't gone through all technical details behind this new solution but if it is only soft fork than it is far better than BU.

Why will it be a disaster if everyone is in consensus about a HF?

because that consensus will never happen.

buy it now with no stop and ride this crazy bull to 32,000$

thats what i always say.

Why 32 000$? I want at least 100 000$ Otherwise it would be a letdown. 32 000$ isnt even more than a average car, or a expensive watch. Bitcoin is worth more than some car or a watch.

i need you all to believe 32K is the top so i can sell and buy back lower.

how about you just donate a coin or two my way adam? close enough, right? Cheesy
432  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 28, 2017, 09:55:58 PM
who the hell is running this "bitcoin facebook page" thing?
433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's add up the KNOWN lost bitcoins on: March 28, 2017, 09:45:35 PM
I heard that during the early days of bitcoin, a guy traded 10,000 btc before they were worth anything, for 2 papa johns  pizzas. As far as I am concerned that's a major loss.... I am sure some of you have heard the story.

it's no story, it happened and there is proof.

but that is utterly not what this thread is about. he SPENT the 10,000 coins. he sent them to someone else, who still has them, or himself has spent them. you know, as one does with money. no loss occurred.

this thread is about bitcoins that are GONE. that cannot EVER be recovered by anyone under any conditions. formatted the hard drive and lost your wallet file with no backups, that kind of thing.
434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: March 28, 2017, 05:17:37 PM
:)I don't wanna be part of a new elite replacing the old one. Fuck the yachts. If I become a Bitcoin Billionaire I'm going to open entrepreneurial academies and startup incubators in developing countries.

i'd go with maker spaces - workshops, but more than just wood working tools. metal working, car stuff, composite materials, 3d printing and laser cutting, every damned craft that takes working with your hands... give people a place to learn it, practice it, and become skilled in something they actually enjoy.
435  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 23, 2017, 08:36:52 PM
95% hashrate activation seems crazy. I can't understand why they ever thought that was going to happen.

Agreed. You can't even get 95% of people to agree that the sky is blue.
I think 67% is a good threshold.

WELL EXCUSE ME FOR BEING COLORBLIND, YOU ABLEIST BASTARD!

if you can't tell, that's meant jokingly. though i am colorblind. but i still see the sky as blue. purple though? doesn't exist. red? sure. pink? yea. blue? totally. pale blue, like the sky? yea! any kind of blending... doesn't exist. one or the other. and neon green and yellow? same thing.

Thanks Fakhoury.

My bitcoin talk account was hacked into in September (about the same time that Adam's account was hacked into).

I made some changes, but based on your article, Fakhoury, I made a few more changes.

If a hacker gets into another bitcoin related account that has value, it will take only a few minutes before you lose your bitcoin in that account.

And, even if the account does not allow them to withdraw for a few days, they can pretty much deplete your account within hours, just by pumping and dumping whatever value you  have in your account.

My account got done too, unfortunately I've not been able to get it back Sad

oh, is that what happened to adam? what's he going by these days?

He goes by "who knows"   hahahaha

...please tell me thats a joke...

but them if anyone would do it, he would.
437  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 21, 2017, 06:28:35 AM
easy solution: make your account worthless! how? same as your identity! DEBT! YAY!

ahem. i believe i need to stop posting after 1 am...

439  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Buying BTC with debit card in washington on: March 21, 2017, 06:00:00 AM
doesn't work with every card/bank, but virwox.com does instant buys. well technically instant deposits that you then exchange for SLL, which you then exchange for BTC, which you can then withdraw, but you know. couple minutes turnaround.

works with paypal, and did work with my wood forest bank, but not my aspiration.com bank. *shrug* give it a try, if ya like.
440  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 20, 2017, 04:19:27 AM
i used to run a full node... then i moved, and now have limited (40 GB a month...) data. sigh.
its +10$/month for unlimited for me

my cellphone, through t-mobile, has unlimited, including hotspot. but it really means "28 GB, then we throttle you when it's busy" which is basically unusable, even for checking email at the busiest times.

our actual internet (again, a mobile hotspot, through verizon) doesn't even OFFER unlimited. if we go over the 40 GB, it's 15 bucks a gig.

this is because my wife's parents live far enough outside the city that they don't have the option of cable internet. or DSL. or dial up. or satellite. believe me, i checked. and checked, and checked... literally the only option is mobile hotspots.

but hey, rent free... until i land some sort of decent paying job, it's what we've got...

now, if we lived a thusand feet down the road, we'd have FIBER OPTIC. *shoots self*
