4361  Economy / Speculation / Re: For real? on: June 14, 2020, 11:10:22 AM
Most "analysts" think that being overly positive about Bitcoin and predicting huge returns is the way to go when building a community on social platforms, this leads to lots of shills with little or no factual evidence to support their predictions. Just as unrealistic FUD is frowned upon, throwing insanely high figures around to try and instill a bullish sentiment is as well.

Investment is a personal risk and you should DYOR before putting your money into any cryptocurrency at any time. The analyst could be giving his price expectations for the next decade while your investment plan is about 6 months. Choose the strategy that best works for you.
4362  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: June 14, 2020, 07:13:12 AM
I expect a low scoring draw; 0-0 or 1-1, would be betting under 2.5.
A low scoring draw as I predicted and Napoli advance to the final, inter were not able to build momentum after the early goal they scored and allowed Napoli back into the match.
Mertens became Napoli's all-time goal scorer in l competitions with his equalizer, taking his overall tally to 122 goals, Maradona is still their top scorer in the coppa Italia.
4363  Other / Meta / Re: Should mods deal with the 1 line posters just here to build their counts. on: June 13, 2020, 09:56:57 PM
I have found many times that reporting a post may or may not get it removed.
Having multiple people report it tends to get it removed more often and faster.
I don't think mods need multiple reminders in order to decide whether to take action on a report or not, if your report checks out, it would be handled (this might take a while depending on the availability of mods in that section) and if it doesn't, all reports would remain unhanded or marked bad. Although, I think different mods could handle different reports on a post (as they are separate in the queue) and could have their unique opinions about it.

Multiple reports would be useful in getting quicker attention to cases that requires urgency, like malwares and phishing links in posts.
4364  Other / Meta / Re: Should mods deal with the 1 line posters just here to build their counts. on: June 13, 2020, 09:02:26 PM
does anyone think we need or anyone want a thread about the 1 line crap posts

How about a thread for reporting spam posts regardless of the length? If there is a target one liners, users would simply draw out their posts with a little effort. Although, imo, a thread is not necessary, mods are pretty efficient in handling reports. If you feel a post is low quality, report it and the moderators would decide whether or not to take action.
4365  Other / Meta / Re: Could we have a standard to announce open spots in signature campaigns? on: June 13, 2020, 09:27:41 AM
Having a standard means it has to be enforced and this would mean extra work for the forum moderators to ensure managers are abiding by the guidelines. Moderating signatures or bounties would be like opening a can of worns as there would be so much discussions and disagreements on what should and not be allowed.
4366  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: June 13, 2020, 06:22:15 AM
The first leg of the Juventus-Milan tie was about 4 months ago, but the away goal decided the match. This could likely happen in today's other semi-final fixture. Napoli enter with a one goal lead and an away goal at the San Sir, this would give them an edge and Inter would have to do a lot to be able to come back. Home advantage will not however count this time as there would be no fans. I expect a low scoring draw; 0-0 or 1-1, would be betting under 2.5.
4367  Other / Serious discussion / Re: The Fat Emperor talks to a leading virologist about herd immunity on: June 12, 2020, 05:17:57 PM
I was going to give you 5 merits, but I dropped it to 4
I initially thought you were trying to hit the symmetrically increasing even number sequence. I had been looking out for that.

I agree to an extent on the vaccine point, if it's going to be discovered and before all regulations would be passed, so much time would have elapsed and people would have begun to live with the situation. My main reservation however of acquired immunity is the after effects on the person who has recovered. I've come across (on the internet) cases of lung conditions, shortening of breadth, weakness and other effects after a person has tested negative. Understanding how the virus reacts after a person recovers would be vital in the quest for normalcy.
4368  Economy / Economics / Re: What brings economy of a country down. on: June 12, 2020, 04:41:09 PM
what brings economy down is base on focusing on one particular thing not be diversified in different sectors, so when that particular product fails to trend in market the way it's before such country will be shortage of economy
This is evident in Nigeria, prior to the discovery of oil (in 1953) agriculture was the main driver of the economy contributing hugely (more than half) to GDP growth and also export revenue.
The quest to discover oil in Nigeria began at the turn of the century and was very expensive, after it was discovered in 1953 in non-commercial quantities, over £6 million (£123 million in today's rate) had been spent on the quest, hence more effort and resources were engaged to accelerate the discovery of oil in commercial quantities, inorder to recover the lost funds, this was achieved few years later. After this, efforts were hastened to begin exploration later in that decade.

During all this, agriculture which was the was the core of the economy was beginning to be neglected and it's contributions to GDP growth began to drop, export revenue accrued from it was hit harder, as all efforts shifted to the liquid gold.

The discovery of oil however did not rescue the economy as many thought it would, mismanagement of the oil industry led to conflict in the oil producing states as the indigenes clamoured for better revenue to their zone. The oil drilling exercise destroyed the environment and fish market which was the main source of income among the locals was crippled due to oil spills. Conflict and militancy slowed down oil production and was a menace for many years. The agricultural industry was thus double affected by the discovery of oil as lands and vaible waters in those regions were lost.

Fast forward to today, agriculture barely contributes 5% to national export revenue, and the country's inflation index has spiked from the period before the discovery of oil to today reaching a height of about 2000%.
Crude oil failed to boost the economy due to mismanagement and corruption and the lack of attention to agriculture meant there was no diversification.

With the Advent of electric cars and the quest for safer and renewable sources of energy which doesn't harn the environment, the oil market would likely drop in the next half a century, adversely affecting economies which are over reliant on it.
4369  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The importance of using different emails for your crypto related activity on: June 12, 2020, 10:16:19 AM
and it you didn't practice having different strong passwords, they have decrypted it quickly, and can go a process of elimination by logging to different crypto related sites like exchanges and online wallets to get what they want from you
Users should avoid exchange and online wallets where you either don't own your private keys or it's stored online, some also require you to submit KYC, which adds an extra threat.
Having different emails for different purposes is a good idea, I would also advise one keeps a log, if you're opening random accounts often it's very easy to mix everything up and reuse details. Only open accounts you need, in cases where you're just experimenting use a throwaway mail to set up an account and if/when you decide to register you can create a unique address for such account.
4370  Economy / Economics / Re: US economy wouldn't be shut down again despite the rising case count on: June 12, 2020, 08:37:51 AM
What are your expectations for the third and last quarter of this year?

It would depend on the fiscal policies that would be implemented during that time as well as the general sentiment towards the nation's economic state. The president is doing everything to keep the latter positive by suggesting they are on the brink of a recovery, but people are going to need more than words to convince them of that.
The article also reported that they plan on pumping in a trillion dollars into the economy over the next month to stimulate it, but the current rise in covid-19 cases could negate the effect. If spending remains low, more businesses would close and loans would be defaulted.

Over the next two quarters, the U.S and global markets would likely continue to contract. More jobs may be gained, but unemployment would still be high. A vaccine being developed during this period however could change that.
4371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Warning when transaction fee exceeds sent amount for bitcoin wallets? on: June 12, 2020, 06:52:41 AM
What about generally checking the transaction before sending it?
I would assume some users do not know how to calculate the most appropriate fees for a transaction based on how quickly they want it confirmed and how much they are willing to part with, some simply select the dynamic fee suggested by the wallet they are using (for wallets which has this feature), and in times of network clog this could go really high. And they will feel that is the only way to get their transactions confirmed at all. But double checking everything should be a practice when transacting using Bitcoin.
4372  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about merit on: June 12, 2020, 06:14:17 AM
I read this post that only merit source have expiration for smerits. But yet only a proposal I guess. Confuse too with this.
You're right, only merit sources have their smerit count replenished monthly and unused smerits from the previous month would be decayed. At this point it doesn't apply to regular users, although theymos has hinted that this could be implemented in the future if hoarding smerits becomes a bigger issue.
4373  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Signature Campaigns on: June 12, 2020, 05:17:34 AM
Nice idea,I understand it's still a work in progress. I have one suggestion, looking at the list of campaigns, you added the maximum rate as the pay, some may misinterpret that as the average pay for each participant, making a distinction with up to $$ or <$$ would inform visitors that there are lower pay amounts, depending on your rank, and in some cases, the number of posts made.
4374  Other / Meta / Re: Is my Username Permitted? on: June 12, 2020, 03:57:27 AM
I am new to BitcoinTalk and when I registered, I was blocked and it had said I couldn't register a user, because apparently Satoshi was a reserved name.
What exact error message did you get, AFAIK, there is no block on any username, except it has previously been used by someone else
it's likely someone tried to use that name already on the forum, hence you needed to find another variation of it. I can't however find such a hsernane on bpip, so you would get a better answer from the forum staffs, follow @jackg'a advice above.

Your current username is fine, but to avoid issues of impersonation, you could request a user to give you a neutral feedback on your profile, stating that you have no ties to the pseudonym satoshi, using this thread as a reference.
4375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it’s important to avoid telling everyone about your crypto holdings on: June 11, 2020, 06:48:24 PM
I agree, when it comes to cryptocurrencies we act as our own bank, and we should take extra precautions when divulging information about our crypto investments, especially if you carry your assets around on your mobile phone, this increases the risk of getting robbed.
A thief is less likely to force you to make a transfer from your bank as this would give away their identity, but a Blockchain transaction can be mixed and the trace would be lost.

Once information is revealed, we can’t make it unhappen including all (bad) consequences.
Even if one deletes their account on a website after submitting personal information, that information is not deleted. The best security is to keep your data private.
4376  Other / Meta / Re: Should mods deal with the 1 line posters just here to build their counts. on: June 11, 2020, 12:24:59 PM
Is there really a benefit of increasing their post count, the users would be stuck as newbies except they earn a merit, and the merit system would legitimately keep then from ranking up. In the long run without any incentive the user should tire out eventually, when they realize they can't rank up.

what are merits anyway? to boost my profile?
The account registered last December, and the user was asking this month about merits, they probably have not gone through the forum rules or guidelines. The newbie welcome message would be useful to those member who do not know how to properly navigate the forum.

4379  Other / Meta / Re: Issue with flag system (Please FIX) on: June 10, 2020, 09:05:26 PM
As mentioned one should not create a flag linking to a post of the alleged scammer as proof, It can be edited and the evidence lost.
You should create a new topic containing the reason(s) for the flag, (you can archive the post from the alleged scammer and include it) other members would go through the evidence and choose to support or oppose the flag.
I would assume that not being able to use a self-moderated topic will not be a bug, but to prevent users censoring any arguments against them. One would not be able to defend themselves in a self-moderated thread as their replies can be deleted by the OP, and other users cannot reach an unbiased conclusion.

Local rules should not apply in cases of scam accusation.

I'm sure there are many abusing this now and it means that I am unable to flag the user's topic for scamming users.
Create a new thread, archive the self-moderated topic of the user and include it as evidence, link that to your flag, if you get more support than opposition, the warning banner would be displayed above the user's post, self-moderated or not.
4380  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread on: June 10, 2020, 12:14:18 PM
Yesterday I had read somewhere here in Italy that Madrid is asking about to be the city of the final for this Champions League.
According to as.com, Lisbon has overtaken other cities to host the finals, including Madrid and Moscow, although the contracts are yet to be signed so nothing is official as of now.
Apparently, Madrid was dropped due to current renovations to the Bernebau and the Metropolitan not meeting the requirements of UEFA.
