What are purposes of the upcoming changes? To control difficulty fluctuations better with new difficulty adjustments algorithm. To avoid terrible rise in Monero difficulty due to sudden explosions of total hashrates in Monero network. To make Monero network more stable. I hope the coming changes will bring us good results for the project, it's miners, its network, it's price. Thanks. Predominantly that the miner switches smoothly to the tweaked PoW algorithm (i.e. CryptoNight variant v1).

How far along are multi-signature addresses in Monero? Judging by this pull request, I would assume they are already operational by using the CLI wallet? https://github.com/monero-project/monero/pull/3489Multi-sig will enable Monero p2p FIAT on/off ramps and DEXs, and I think it is important to enable developers to create such (seeing as though regulators are stepping up their enforcement efforts and authoritative bravado.) Multisig (both N/N and N-1/N) will be included in the next release (0.12), which is targeted to be released next week.

Quoting concerns in the comments section: Rik Wisselink 1 hour ago Isn't there a large risk of punishing innocent people? If you sell a hotdog to a maffioso and let him pay with bitcoin, should your money be voided? I posted this example in 2015 (I still use it): A more concrete example:
Let's say Alice sells a painting on OpenBazaar that is bought by Bob. Alice assumes Bob is a law abiding citizin and thus sends her BTC to Coinbase to exchange them for US dollars. However, what Alice didn't know is that Bob isn't the law abiding citizen that she thought he was. That is, Bob occasionally sells some illicit stuff on the darknet markets and used his proceeds to buy the painting. As a result, Alice gets flagged by Coinbase for trying to sell "tainted" coins. A salient issue of Bitcoin's lack of fungibility is that law abiding citizens can be implicated fairly trivially, as shown by aforementioned examples.

1. I really haven't gotten the chance to explore yet but are the devs of popular mining software getting a head start on the new algo and have already released or are in the process of releasing appropriate versions in time for the HF?
2. Also, wouldn't the network be in a vulnerable state since there will be a "theoretical" (though not actual) zero network hash rate at some instance during the transition since not every miner will be switching to the new PoW at the same time; more like gradually ramping up towards whatever the highest network hash rate will be?
[1] The PoW tweak is already finalized (and merged). As a result, the mining software devs were able to start working on the new version of their miners. [2] See: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/86iux3/question_regarding_the_network_strength_on_the/

My wallet won't sync. Running windows v0.11.1.0. And I had the version before this. They start with getting 1,000 blocks... then just sits there..for hours. I tried running as administrator ... set_log 4....and nothing seems to work. It sometimes shows in green I have 12 blocks left. Then it goes back to orange saying 92,000 blocks left and freezes there for a long time. Any help plz? Thx ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Could you go to the Settings page and press Show status? Subsequently, post the full output here. snip This? 5 seconds after I told it to connect to daemon. EDIT: I'm running the latest version. Note that the last line is the most recent line. If you press Show status again, is it still on block 1467526? Here it is after 15 minutes open. Height: 1474180/1535984 (96.0%) on mainnet, not mining, net hash 501.68 MH/s, v6, update needed, 6(out)+1(in) connections, uptime 0d 0h 0m 25s Height: 1474220/1535984 (96.0%) on mainnet, not mining, net hash 501.29 MH/s, v6, update needed, 10(out)+2(in) connections, uptime 0d 0h 2m 37s Height: 1474400/1535993 (96.0%) on mainnet, not mining, net hash 520.68 MH/s, v6, update needed, 8(out)+2(in) connections, uptime 0d 0h 15m 8s Then it's still syncing properly. I'd advise to simply be patient and wait for the initial sync to complete. Note that catching up thereafter every few days (or every week) only takes insignificant amount of time. Here's the problem though .. it locks up here and never moves. In fact it goes backwards ... getting the new blocks. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) EDIT: In fact I had it open for 8 hours one time and no change. Now it's doing nothing. It's like it stops listening. Height: 1474440/1535998 (96.0%) on mainnet, not mining, net hash 517.11 MH/s, v6, update needed, 8(out)+2(in) connections, uptime 0d 0h 29m 20s Height: 1474440/1535998 (96.0%) on mainnet, not mining, net hash 517.11 MH/s, v6, update needed, 8(out)+2(in) connections, uptime 0d 0h 38m 21s ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FtOPJlokh.jpg&t=663&c=rD4b8JyPR4p5wg) EDIT AGAIN: It seems to be catching up.. very very slowly. Thx ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) The last few % worth of blocks are quite big and therefore take, relative to the earlier blocks, significantly longer to sync. Thus, it's expected that the last few % worth of blocks takes significantly longer. I'd advise to, if possible, just let it sync overnight whilst you don't have to perform other tasks on your computer.

~snip~ can you provide us the link for this monero miners.? I hope monero V fork has a solution for this .
I don't think moneroV does. But monero monero does. A slight change is going to be made to the mining algorithm that will render these asics useless for mining monero. Is this announced somewhere? The HYPE and FUD are really strong forces and big part of the crypto miners are like sheep /no offense/ they have no idea what they are doing, only money matters, so I guess many will be fooled around to buy some expensive ASICs door-stoppers.
