To be honest I think the GUI will have as much effect on the price of monero as tiddlywinks has on the price of wheat.

I think it is important to distinguish between short term and longer term effects of an out of the box GUI.

Short term there might be some speculation that the price should rise, but that's it. It likely won't make a difference to the current Monero users, since they are already comfortable with the CLI.

However longer term, a hurdle for new users is removed that do not have the patience / knowledge / interest etc to learn a 90's DOS like interface. They want a graphical interface with just a few options. No geeky stuff to distract them from the core functionality (look at all 'modern' mainstream web pages).

To the power user the CLI will likely stay the preferred way. Let the GUI be for convenience and ease of use to appeal to the not so tech savvy users. This will attract new users, hence increasing demand.

Couldn't have said it better. I'd like to add though that some people currently might not be comfortable with either the CLI or a paper wallet for storage and therefore keep their coins stored on an exchange. This significantly increases the propensity to "pull-the-trigger" (i.e. sell) during a (short-term) downtrend.

Thanks for sharing! I am actually quite positively surprised by these statistics. You would expect that there are way more newbie and junior members (trying to earn a quick buck) compared to hero and legendary. But this Monero tread is like an upside down piramide.

What could explain such a remarkable difference? Likely at first people join the forum for bitcoin, and then slowly realize that there is value in alternative technology as well? Or is it Monero specific because of it's complexity / really being different from bitcoin?

I am not browsing any other threads in this section of the forum, so excuse my ignorance if the answer is obvious.

I've run it on a few more threads, and even for younger coins you will see the majority of posts by at least senior and hero members. I haven't run it enough to really evaluate, but I get the sense the people posting on a thread for months/years will become senior/hero/legendary, and so that's where the majority of the posts will come from. Monero does seem to have bit higher percentage of legendary and hero than the other threads I ran, but again, small sample...

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1365894.msg14788952#msg14788952
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1233817.msg14784801#msg14784801

I guess it would be a fairer comparison to compare with other coins' threads that are ~2 years old with 1000+ pages.

Could you also make an overview with unique posters and ranks? That is, how many unique legendary members have posted in the thread, how many unique hero members have posted in the thread etc.

Do you have a referral code you would like used? How safe is this russian site?

No, I just noticed their message on twitter. I cannot make statements regarding that unfortunately, since I don't have sufficient information.

Hello community, does anyone know where I can download the blockchain?

Thank you.

Quote
If you'd prefer to use a blockchain bootstrap, instead of syncing up from scratch, you can use this link for the most current bootstrap. It is typically much faster to sync from scratch, however.

https://downloads.getmonero.org/blockchain.raw

from:

https://getmonero.org/downloads/

Instructions, if needed, here:

https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero/releases

Under "Updating: Blockchain Conversion":

Quote
It is highly recommended that you delete the contents of your Monero working directory and sync from scratch. This directory can be found in ~/.bitmonero on Linux and OS X, and on Windows in \Users\username\AppData\Roaming\bitmonero or \ProgramData\bitmonero.

Syncing from scratch is EXTREMELY fast in this version, pretty much at bittorrent speeds, and will leave you with a fully verified blockchain.

Alternatively: if you want to grab the bootstrap (NOTE: there is a new bootstrap format!) off the website then you can get it at https://downloads.getmonero.org/blockchain.raw - once downloaded you can import it with blockchain_import --input-file /path/to/your/download.raw. If you're particularly brave you can pass the --verify 0 flag to skip verification during import.

If you REALLY want to convert your old blockchain: you can either use the blockchain_converter tool, or you can use blockchain_export to create a blockchain.raw, followed by blockchain_import to import it into the new LMDB format.

Livecoin is #1 in volume, do they support instanTx like exmo?

I never was able to get google 2fa working with exmo.

Exmo was the first (larger) exchange to support instantX as far as I know.

I have added ZeroCash to http://miningcountdown.com hopefully they give us a date soon so we can mine it.

Seems to moved to September already instead of the earlier mentioned July, see:

https://github.com/zcash/zcash/milestones

Under "1.0 Launch".

Perhaps certain people should back up their so-called claims with proper arguments. It would significantly improve the quality of this thread. Alternatively, just stay away.

Speculation wise, the daily MACD has flipped to green and volume is declining, which is probably a sign that the sellers are getting exhausted during this correction which seems to be going into consolidation. It's ironic some people think it will head back immediately to 100k after the substantial drop. Last year's drop from 180k to 100k was mainly caused by a few factors that aren't (yet) present today. Besides, we still have strong resistance in the 165-180k which has to be broken first.

EDIT: Some visualization, as you can see we broke out of the short/medium-term downtrend/correction:
