Newb question but where can i buy monreo?  Lips sealed

Curious, are you the "real" isildur1?

Anyway, there are a few exchanges available the let you buy XMR. The biggest (and in my opinion the most reliable) is Poloniex -> https://poloniex.com/exchange#btc_xmr. This exchange also has the best liquidity. As "second" exchange I could recommend Bittrex -> https://bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-XMR.

If you haven't bought on exchanges before, here is an explanation of amoebatron on how to do it:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/4eab6c/how_to_purchase_monero_on_poloniex/
Thank you very much for your time in posting. And no i am not the real isildur1 lol Im not that cool. So there is no way to buy Monreo using Debit card transactions or paypal?

I'd generally advise against using Paypal for crypto. Regarding debit card, depends on what part of the world you are in. There is no direct way by the way, but you could buy Bitcoin first and subsequently exchange for XMR.

Monero devs, I have the following question:

If A sends XMR to a stealth address of B, then B sends XMR to the stealth address of C, will A be able to see that his coins are now on C`s stealth address ?

No, traceability is "broken" by ring signatures, which achieve untraceability. Stealth addresses merely achieve unlinkability, but you need both to achieve privacy.

Hi, i downloaded the newest client and the newest blockchain fomr the getmonero site and placed them in the bitmonero folder, but it started synchronising from the beginning again.   Why so? And why is the blockchain name ending with .raw now and not with .bin?  I`m missing something...    I havent worked with monero since like 1 year.

If you haven't used Monero for a year, you were probably using a version without the database. That is, a version where the blockchain was still stored in RAM. The current versions (0.9.x - Hydrogen Helix) use a database to store the blockchain and therefore bitmonerod only uses a negligible amount of RAM. Only blockchains of current versions (0.9.x - Hydrogen Helix) are compatible. If you really want to import your old blockchain, you can use the importer, which is described here:

https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero/releases/tag/v0.9.0

(ctrl + f "Updating: Blockchain Conversion")

Even though the guide is written under the 0.9.0 release, it is advisable to use 0.9.4. Though, since you downloaded the newest client you are probably using that.

I have problem with my wallet. Any suggestion ?

Which version are you on?

0.9.1.0

Everything was fine until I put frends wallets on my computer.

Since then I have a problem

Your blockchain is likely corrupted. The best option is to upgrade to 0.9.4.0 and sync from scratch again.

https://getmonero.org/2016/04/02/monero-0.9.4-released.html

P.S. It is generally advisable to upgrade to 0.9.4 since it contains a lot of fixes over older Hydrogen Helix (i.e. 0.9.x) versions.

big battle going on in 220k. I will guess this is the bottom.

TrueCryptonaire, TheKoziTwo, buy back now or cry l8er Tongue

I think it will bottom at 170k-180k. Its was previously strongest support level, imo.

I agree with this conditional on the current zone breaking. We may not see that zone though, current support zone seems somewhat strong as well.

Hey guys,

I was trying to import a paper wallet yesterday into MyMonero. I put in the 25 word mneumonic seed and then sent 10 XMR to that address (and I just checked, I also put in the payment ID as well). Next time I logged in, I put in those same 25 words and there were no transactions present. The transaction is recorded though in my other MyMonero wallet. The importing wallet still says "Payment not yet received" when I click on "account"/"import transactions". Any idea where those XMR could have gone?

Thanks,
IAS

It seems like MyMonero somehow didn't recognize your payment for the import. Could you mail their support as well? support[at]mymonero[dot]com?

I have a question about mining XMR.  Is it possible to make an ASIC miner for Monero using the current ASIC hardware?
XMR is Memory-bound by design using AES encryption and several SHA-3 candidates, is this chosen to make it more difficult for the ASIC's to enter the market?

Thanks.

EDIT: Here's the answer: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/285f43/is_monero_asic_miner_proof/

I presume that answer was sufficient for you?

This could be the bottom for a couple of days.

Unless someone buys in big time and takes us to over 0.0043 with buy of a great grandeur probably within the coming months we are still going down approximately 50 % from the current value. We will see if I am right with this... Do not get me wrong, I would love to be proven wrong. However, I am pleased also to buy more to get lower cost average, the cost average is the bright side of dump.

Now would be a good time to change your sig back to "normal" again. At least it gave readers a disclaimer of your intentions.
1458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 09, 2016, 10:15:13 PM
I'd agree if BTC wasn't such a mess.

But it's not.  Segwit + Core conceded on hardfork = 3.2mb blocks in 2017.  I see the glass ceiling on BTC price coming off mostly around 8-10MB blocks, so it's not far off.

But about Monero, I think I saw Peter Todd claiming the Bitpay or something or other company's idea for dynamic block size was a "broken" idea the other day.  Wasn't Bitpay's idea the same thing Monero already uses?  What was the difference in the two?  I would find it hard to believe he would say that solely because of a missing non-zero block reward.  Someone needs to question the Todd and get him to clarify these statements as they relate to Monero.

Monero's adaptive blocksize limit relies on a miner penalty that depends upon the block reward. It simply will not work in a coin without a tail emission or demurrage since once the block reward runs out there is no miner penalty. Yes this includes most Cryptonote coins starting with Bytecoin. Aeon's I understand is the exception among Cryptonote coins. My take is that the tail emission in Digitalnote is way to low for the adaptive blocksize limit to work but I have not looked at this particular case in detail. Bytecoin may because of the two year premine / ninjamine lead provide a very good case on how an adaptive blocksize limit can fail in the absence of a tail emission or demurrage. The small block group in Bitcoin do make a very good case here.

As for Bitcoin or Bitcoin like coins it will also not work. One notable exception is Dogecoin because it has a tail emission. The other alternative to a tail emission would be demurrage so one could for example add a Monero style adaptive blocksize limit to Freicoin.

To add, Bitpay didn't add a penalty in their proposal as far as I know. They could theoretically make use of a penalty until the blockreward drops below a sufficient level. However, like I stated a few times already, "information" like this gets discounted back to the present and included in the price perception.

Core did not conceed as far as I know. A few blockstreams members independently did, but core as an "entity" didn't. If aforementioned is erroneous, could you point me to where they conceeded on it?

Yup a lot of words to basically say what I have been saying, greedy slimeballs infest this thread, more than any other coins combined. In DASH you only have toknormal and quizzie manipulating the morons at will. ETH has its own indentified slimes.

Sure lets "retest" 230k because that number feels better in my ass. Keep fucking each other up. Moon is around the corner.

It's not "greedy slimeballs", it's just random people like American Pegasus spamming the coin is going to be worth $5 billion dollars each before dinner time, or TrueCryptonaire saying it's going to be worth $100 each in 2014 and $1000 each by 2016.  If people trade on that advice, it's probably not going to work.  Just because he has unrealistic expectations or might not be the greatest of traders doesn't mean the thread is full of manipulators.

I personally think anyone trading altcoins this close to BTC halving is insane, but that's just my opinion, man.  That is, unless you have so much money that tossing a few thousand at Monero is inconsequential.

I'd agree if BTC wasn't such a mess.
