If etc is to have a remaining % of PoW (which is the current consensus), miners need to be represented or they will not run the new code and you will have a LiteClassic as well as a Classic Ethereum.  Remember, the only reason you have a classic is because they didn't get all the miners on side.  Wink

Sure but they are stakeholders.
443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 12, 2016, 10:31:34 AM
They plan on dumping all the dao ETC and then ask for donations.

Crooks!

OK here is a clear story of the white hackers and how they were caught red handed and now some of the funds they held are frozen in an exchange. http://themerkle.com/white-hat-hackers-caught-red-handed-during-attempted-etc-sell-off/

They intended to sell all the ETC for ETH to use for development of the forked chain. It is allegedly a move orchestrated by the Ethereum foundation. Can someone who has an idea of the whole story tell us how the white hat hackers have a connection to the Ethereum foundation?

There is a post here but it is very confusing. Please make it clear for everyone to read well.

The hackers are member of the ethereum foundation dev team.  The issue has been dissected in detail here as far back as page 147
445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 12, 2016, 10:20:32 AM
@usukan  are you happy about giving the hackers and eth dev team a large say in the vote then?

Quote
I am beginning to think that the white hat hacking group is also a part of the black hat hacking group.

Maybe they're all the same people...

The same group or not all of them want to make money out of Ethereum.

I fear for the eth crowd, they have a dev team that care more about money than the tech.  I emailed christian@reitwiessner.de from my personal email address and told him he had been implicated in theft. Still no answer.  Scum!

Hackers or not, crooks the lot of them.  They want to sue me,  bring it on!   It would be nice to get out more.

Why was the ethereum foundation liquidated?  Did we find out?

Hi, I am Maciej, I am new user of WYKOP PL and I have a question about security of ETC wallet copy:

1. Is it enough to secure a copy of the UTC file from the "keystore" directory and private key?

2. How in ETC wallet can you import the private key If I have one, and at the same time don't have the UTC file? If it is possible then I would like to ask for instructions how to import such a key, preferably offline.

3. If a hacker steals my UTC file, would it be easy to descrypt such file and steal my ETC? And my final question, Do you think the ETC rate has a chance to beat the current ETH rate?

Hello Burgon, nice to have you on side.  I do not know the answer to your question.  Whenever i have moved a wallet to a different machine i have moved the whole Keystore file.  When i backup, i copy the whole keystore file.  Someone wil be along that may be able to answer.  Keep an eye out here and don't be afraid to repost your issue.

@usukan we have many things to vote on.  Fork to a new algo.. PoS/PoW , agreement on the social contract, that sort of thing.  Remember, if we vote on stake, we will be giving hackers and eth devs a large vote..
447  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 12, 2016, 03:56:27 AM
If you vote by address anyone can open multiple address with a light client like myetherwallet.com
If you vote by coin, many miners will miss out as they often cash out 80% each month to pay power costs.
Maybe there is a way of voting with a node, but some miners mine at a light client address from a mining pool and not run a node.
Lots of stuff just don't join up.

What do you feel about having 2 address for voting.  One address "yes" / Other address "no"
You send a small amount (0.1) etc to the address of your choice but you can only send once from a wallet running geth.
Is that doable?

Anyhow, we are on an upward trend   Wink  For now!

@frostminer  im glad we agree
@MalReynolds  Hope you are well,  Thanks for all the work you have done here,....   Again!

I hear on slack that reddit posts are being censored.

I didn't invest in the Dao but i have been financially impacted as the coin i was mining splintered into two due to their incompetence.

"When the salvaged ETC were able to be recovered, signals were received from the greater community to distribute these ETC in ETH, to continue to support Ethereum projects. Also, a large portion of the community does not have the technical ability to safely work both with ETC and ETH in the same address; therefore, returning part of salvaged ETC in ETH seemed to be the safest for all the parties involved. The first actions from the Swiss structure took place Tuesday August 9th and it preferred to not announce the movement of ETC in advance to avoid speculators taking advantage of the situation. Part of these funds are still on exchanges and the rest of the funds are held in the following accounts:"

On Tuesday August 9th 00:00h ETC opend at 3.7mBTC, will Dao holders get compensated to the ask value of ETC on that date ?

"Also, a large portion of the community does not have the technical ability to safely work both with ETC and ETH in the same address" (jbaylina)

That's a bit arrogant! As we all know, "someone" found their way around the Dao code without issue.  Well after they left holes everywhere throughout, writing sloppy broken code, it makes you wonder, who are the real experts?  Moreover, there were GUI contract splitters available within days from people like shapeshift.

One thing is for sure.  They screw up everything they touch.   Classic will triumph over Ethereum, even if we are not very good at it.  All we need do is not be as bad as they are.  It's like taking candy from a baby!  Cheesy
450  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 11, 2016, 11:04:10 PM
I currently hold 1.0 ETH and 1.0 ETC (just to have their progress easily visible)
So you are in both camps?

* My impression of the average age of the participants in each group is way way higher in the ETH camp.
Higher?  you mean older?  So in your world ETC is for kids, ETH is for adults?  I am 50 years old but feel 30.  If you are younger than me i consider you a kid.  Wink  At what age do you consider someone a kid?

* I would never even considering joining the ETC camp after seeing how they have been acting these last weeks.
If we had not acted as we did the coin would have died!  We acted as we did, the coin is still here.

* That "meetup video" was as chaotic and messy as this hyper moderated thread. Another sure no-go.
Classic was born from chaos.  You know, the Altcoin with the highest trading volume this week.

* Kids in this thread and the ETH thread are for sure the biggest threat to ETC.  You will ruin it.
Nobody has the right to say who uses money or not.  When i was born, family and friends gave me money.  They would put it in my crib. Tradition. When i was 5 years old i went to buy sweets with my Mum.  If i had used Ethereum (if it had been invented) instead of fiat, would i have ruined it? So who else will ruin it?  Women?  Black people? Jews? Old People? Muslims? Russians? Trump Supporters? The Kurds? The Chinese? Who would not be welcome on your WORLDcoin?

Im guessing we'd see more than 200 pages here if @bitpop were'nt making it the most "mutable" thread on bct.
Also .... 90% chance this post will be deleted.

bitpop is a very clever and respected man.
You can have your own self moderated thread you know.  But how many pages would it have? Two?
I would come and post on it.  You would have my support, I would interact with you.
So prove us all wrong!
Who would you delete on your thread?
greenuser for challenging you frostminer?

Declaration of independence...

I am very proud to present "The Ethereum Classic Declaration of Independence"
https://ethereumclassic.github.io/assets/ETC_Declaration_of_Independence.pdf

I am speechless  Cheesy  Well done people!  Please, please read this.

Thank you Longsnowsm

Ethereum Classic 4 step plan : All in progress.

1) Establish a clear social contract that the etc members mostly agree to
2) Decide on a roadmap
3) Choose a governance model to execute that roadmap
4) Raise funds for its execution

With this in mind, it may be good for people to see this video by Charles Hoskinson recorded 3 weeks ago
before his involvment leading Ethereum Classic. Here talks on governance in crypto

Mr Trout talks of destroying Eth.  I don't want to destroy anything.  I want ethereum classic to be in competition with Eth.
If Eth dies it will be by its own hand.  People must have choice.  People get to choose between the corporate chain and the peoples chain.

Moreover, the language on the video on the above website is not suitable for children.  Maybe like this website at times but i work hard with the help of others to keep it so anyone can speak without fear of ridicule.  Keeping language levels down gives others confidence.
However, i know emotions can be strong at times.

I want Ethereum Classic to be taught in schools.  That is where we must capture our entrepreneurs. We need to have high standards, we need to be inclusive, as the kids will be our next bunch of coders and developers. I do not want to drive anyone away, we must be inclusive, even to eth_fans. People what do you all think?
456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 11, 2016, 06:45:38 PM

Looks good, it will be interesting to see what Mr Trout and friends bring to the table.  Welcome aboard.  However, who's idea it was for the ethereum platform is a subject for another time, there is a war to fight.  Maybe Mr Trout has many other ideas just as good as ethereum platform?

But first we must get our house in order,..  Quality investors do “due diligence” before investing and one of the first things they look at is the social contract.  We all need to know where we stand with each other.  That way no-ones ideas get stolen.  We all have something to invest, time and knowledge is just as important as funds.
