So all DAO token holders get their share in ETC back from the white hats?

I think that's right...but this is still such a confused, chaotic mess I'm not absolutely sure...

@frostminer  im glad we agree
@MalReynolds  Hope you are well,  Thanks for all the work you have done here,....   Again!

I hear on slack that reddit posts are being censored.

I didn't invest in the Dao but i have been financially impacted as the coin i was mining splintered into two due to their incompetence.

Quote: jbaylina
"When the salvaged ETC were able to be recovered, signals were received from the greater community to distribute these ETC in ETH, to continue to support Ethereum projects. Also, a large portion of the community does not have the technical ability to safely work both with ETC and ETH in the same address; therefore, returning part of salvaged ETC in ETH seemed to be the safest for all the parties involved. The first actions from the Swiss structure took place Tuesday August 9th and it preferred to not announce the movement of ETC in advance to avoid speculators taking advantage of the situation. Part of these funds are still on exchanges and the rest of the funds are held in the following accounts:"
end quote:

On Tuesday August 9th 00:00h ETC opend at 3.7mBTC, will Dao holders get compensated to the ask value of ETC on that date ?

"Also, a large portion of the community does not have the technical ability to safely work both with ETC and ETH in the same address" (jbaylina)

That's a bit arrogant! As we all know, "someone" found their way around the Dao code without issue.  Well after they left holes everywhere throughout, writing sloppy broken code, it makes you wonder, who are the real experts?  Moreover, there were GUI contract splitters available within days from people like shapeshift.

One thing is for sure.  They screw up everything they touch.   Classic will triumph over Ethereum, even if we are not very good at it.  All we need do is not be as bad as they are.  It's like taking candy from a baby!  Cheesy

MAL SPEAKING AGAIN: SOMEBODY CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG - DOESN'T THIS MEAN 7.8M ETH (9.5% OF TOTAL SUPPLY) ARE ABOUT TO BE IRREVERSIBLY CONVERTED TO ETC?  What's the total spendable coins on each blockchain if this goes through?

No, these coins already existed as ETC and in any case a conversion can't be "irreversible" (coins don't disappear if you sell them).

Although it's interesting that they have some ETH and some BTC too, so probably dumped part of the loot already and now may need to rebuy? Not sure about that part.

Edit: 3.something million ETC, 21k ETH, and zero BTC in those addresses. So ~4 million ETC unaccounted for. Perhaps on exchanges, perhaps some of it has been dumped already. Very messy, very un-white-hattish. If the goal was to return coins, you return coins, you don't fuck around with exchange rates.

Funny , the " whitehat " which recovery the blackhat coins , which after winning ETC million and transferred them with obviously the intention of selling them , are now backing A PIECE to try to undo the shit.

This is the picture of ETHF the picture who works for them , that even affects your community who did everything to overthrow the ETC fighting to keep following the code .

But the truth always comes !
More revelations come !

Declaration of independence...

I am very proud to present "The Ethereum Classic Declaration of Independence"
https://ethereumclassic.github.io/assets/ETC_Declaration_of_Independence.pdf

I am speechless  Cheesy  Well done people!  Please, please read this.

Thank you Longsnowsm

Ethereum Classic 4 step plan : All in progress.

1) Establish a clear social contract that the etc members mostly agree to
2) Decide on a roadmap
3) Choose a governance model to execute that roadmap
4) Raise funds for its execution

With this in mind, it may be good for people to see this video by Charles Hoskinson recorded 3 weeks ago
before his involvment leading Ethereum Classic. Here talks on governance in crypto
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zP4Chk8g7A
i was wondering how far the ideas for a voting system are ?

the voting system for the fork was really not fair or good. or easy for every holder to find.
i wonder if a voting system which uses only the adress of an acount would be a option.
it is fair .  if not the quantity of coins you hold votes but sort of like in real life. one head one vote.

we can do one adress one vote.
and with the wallets or with mist you reach every holder fast.

Chandler Guo: "CHBTC (largest ETH exchange in China) intends to donate 50% of ETC transaction fees to development and Dapps for ETC"

https://www.reddit.com/r/EthereumClassic/comments/4x5w3j/chandler_guo_chbtc_largest_eth_exchange_in_china/

This dude is a funny one.

24 July: "I am Chandler Guo, a 51% attack on Ethereum Classic (ETC) is coming with my 98G hashrate"

https://twitter.com/ChandlerGuo/status/757191880740184064

31 July: "Today i will turn on my 120GH for the ETC chain to protect ETC"

https://twitter.com/ChandlerGuo/status/759733579702075393

Lol..
This guy has the Trump syndrome!   Changes opinion daily Cheesy

It takes a bigger man to see and say when he is wrong,  Join us frostminer, we will make you welcome.
Can i ask... are you welcomed by the ethereum crowd?  Do they make you feel proud?  Or do they make you feel like an outsider wandering the cyrpto forums looking for salvation?

I currently hold 1.0 ETH and 1.0 ETC (just to have their progress easily visible)

Im not part of any of these crowds. But i can say this..

* My impression of the  average age of the participants in each group is way way higher in the ETH camp.
* I would never even considering joining the ETC camp after seeing how they have been acting these last weeks.
* That "meetup video" was as chaotic and messy as this hyper moderated thread. Another sure no-go.
* Kids in this thread and the ETH thread are for sure the biggest threat to ETC.  You will ruin it.

Im guessing we'd see more than 200 pages here if @bitpop were'nt making it the most "mutable" thread on bct.
Also .... 90% chance this post will be deleted.

dear frosti
i am in grandmother age
are you realy guessing the eth bunch is older then that ? what are they then metusalem ?

and i guess your personal vendeta with bitpop influences your judgement ......

second why ? how did we act ?
strong? fast? building something in just a couple of weeks ?
already removing that stupid reckless diff bomb ?

the first ethereum classic meetup. yes it was ad hoc . but given the circumstances it was great.

If you vote by address anyone can open multiple address with a light client like myetherwallet.com
If you vote by coin, many miners will miss out as they often cash out 80% each month to pay power costs.
Maybe there is a way of voting with a node, but some miners mine at a light client address from a mining pool and not run a node.
Lots of stuff just don't join up.

What do you feel about having 2 address for voting.  One address "yes" / Other address "no"
You send a small amount (0.1) etc to the address of your choice but you can only send once from a wallet running geth.
Is that doable?

what are we voting on?

voting clearly needs to be weighted by holding - the main holders of ETC will not go with any crap that each one wallet (and thousands of 1 ETC wallets on GETH) holding miniscule ETC should have equal say in anything ETC related compared to someone holding 1,000's of ETC in ONE WALLET.  Its not representative of the community what you seem to be suggesting? The owners of ETC need to be represented by the investment and risk they are taking in this venture and the long term future of ETC.

I'm a miner but not sure what you do to take this interest into account?  Like me - most miners go where the money is. Few miners can afford to consider the long term and as such I don't feel that miners votes would be truly representative of long term interests and support for ETC. The miner votes would generally support continued mining - but it takes investors in the end to maintain price and if they vacate the scene because they are not represented - price falls and miners leave.

As for using GETH - its a 3 legged dog. MIST and Etherwallet are based on GETH and too cumbersome IMO. Parity --geth mode and MyEtherWallet.com are the better options by far (MEW especially) - so I will NEVER use GETH even for an important vote.

You need to understand that there are VERY major holders in ETC (pity no rich list - it would blow you away).

carbonvote - developed by the Chinese ETH community was actually a very fair voting system.  Its open source.  Suggest you have a look.
https://github.com/consenlabs/carbonvote

Thats all that I will accept unless someone comes up with a better method of weighting to account for "skin in the game".

For the record again - I favour POS for ETC before the diff bomb cuts in.

As @iCEBREAKER seems to - and he makes sense:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1559630.msg15836594#msg15836594)

So if there is any voting I will be holding out for it to be weighted for holding (and most ETC owners of any substance will demand this - you can expect that something like 5% of holders own 70% of ETC) and I will be voting for POS (this may be more contentious) but I believe its best for the long term for ETC.

I am beginning to think that the white hat hacking group is also a part of the black hat hacking group. Maybe we are all very gullible to even realize this. They could also be part of the Ethereum community playing us for fools.

Hi, I am Maciej, I am new user of WYKOP PL and I have a question about security of ETC wallet copy:

1. Is it enough to secure a copy of the UTC file from the "keystore" directory and private key?

2. How in ETC wallet can you import the private key If I have one, and at the same time don't have the UTC file? If it is possible then I would like to ask for instructions how to import such a key, preferably offline.

3. If a hacker steals my UTC file, would it be easy to descrypt such file and steal my ETC? And my final question, Do you think the ETC rate has a chance to beat the current ETH rate?

Blackhat... Whitehat... WHATEVER FFS. Ethereum classic is the only chain immutable and unstoppable on the long run. That is what counts. Everyone remember that.

Ethereum might as well run on a centralized server.

Hello Burgon, nice to have you on side.  I do not know the answer to your question.  Whenever i have moved a wallet to a different machine i have moved the whole Keystore file.  When i backup, i copy the whole keystore file.  Someone wil be along that may be able to answer.  Keep an eye out here and don't be afraid to repost your issue.

@usukan we have many things to vote on.  Fork to a new algo.. PoS/PoW , agreement on the social contract, that sort of thing.  Remember, if we vote on stake, we will be giving hackers and eth devs a large vote..

I fear for the eth crowd, they have a dev team that care more about money than the tech.  I emailed christian@reitwiessner.de from my personal email address and told him he had been implicated in theft. Still no answer.  Scum!

Hackers or not, crooks the lot of them.  They want to sue me,  bring it on!   It would be nice to get out more.

Why was the ethereum foundation liquidated?  Did we find out?
